[Finale] bar numbers problem
Dear finalelist friends, I am trying to finish a score and parts that had been hired out, and returned to me with problems. I'm using Finale 2011 on a Mac. There is a section with some freedom around bar 100: Two long, somewhat free bars had been combined; very hard for the other parts to follow. I have put the music back into two bars; however, the bar numbers are wrong after this. Unfortunately, this has caused different problems in different parts (!) In the past, I seem to remember that Finale would correct the bar numbers when an new bar was interpolated. But I have a mess, with bar numbers appearing in odd places on the page as well. How do I remove and replace the bar numbers after 100 in the parts? Or is it easier to remove them all and replace them? Any help appreciated... Thanks for the info. [Finale] key signature problem
I have a very chromatic alto sax part. When it was originally copied (hand copy) this movement was done without a key signature. Finale insists on putting it in A major, and I have not been able to convert it to C major with the notes in the same place, and the nonstandard doesn't help either. [Finale] Why isn't this simple - or working - or both?
OK... I have a score on Finale 2011 (Mac) for string instruments and I'm trying to extract parts. (This used to be simple!!). I follow the instructions and hit extract parts. No parts show up in the space like they do in the computer instructions; only one square for score. I try highlighting parts. NG. I try hitting the marks for each line. They turn red. NG. I go on this way, trying whatever I can think of. NG. Nothing changes - only a square for score shows up, no parts. What am I missing? Help, and thanks ahead of time. [Finale] Rite of Spring
Jari Williamson's post reminded me that for those many years at Manhattan School I taught in 20th Century Theory some analysis of sections of the Rite,, including the Grand Danse Sacral, as written up by Boulez from the famous Messiaen classes. The pieces were broken down in small bits, defined by material and duration, which made up phrases. Brilliant work, and the kids could really see it and hear it. All kids took this class, but I don't believe the other teachers used this material. It still excites me! [Finale] 2011 formatting question
For years I have been inputting with my right hand on a keyboard and my left hand on the computer giving the note length (quarter, eighth etc.) The program would automatically format the bars as soon as I finished. You have to click on a whole different region of the score to get it out of that mode, and then it will proportion everything. I assume this was for efficiency reasons, but I agree with you that it is annoying. I'd like to see the music formatted reasonably as I leave each measure because often you can't see the previous notes well enough to spot errors until the reformatting process takes place. [Finale] transposition solution
Actually it was a soprano sax part, so it came out in D major. The piece called, Ayres, is based on some Dowland; two of the movements would clearly be easier to read with no key signature and accidentals. That was the problem. [Finale] disaster! Help!
Dear finalelist, I'm so disgusted... finally updated from finale 2004 to 2011. (Mac). and have spent some really frustrating hours. I'm hoping that will correct itself with a restart now that it accepted my registration. 1. The fancy little circles in Speedy are very hard on my eyes. I remember changing them a couple of years ago for a student but I can't find alternatives anywhere. 2. Mass edit is gone. can't find how to move measures up and down - and I'll need to find transpose and clear etc. The help is no help at all - gives me other topics and doesn't answer questions. 3. Speedy fills in bars with rests then jumps me to the next bar when I am still working in a measure.. Thought I saw a place to disable that but can't find it now!! 4. Finale audio isn't working. It goes through my midi and turns on something crazy while I am working - or should I say TRYING to work. I only use it for proofing really and I'd rather just have the simple finale audio. [Finale] so simple - so strangely missing
Dear Finalelist: Some problems that I never had with Finale 2000... 1. I wish to delete some finale files. Simple, eh? Moved them to trash singly. Wouldn't go in. Moved them to trash as a group. No dice. Dragged one to desktop to try from there - it made a new copy. Looked it up on the online help: read through chapter on file: no help searched for word delete in the entire text: ditto While looking around for options I came across an alternate File listing - toward the bottom I saw Move to Trash but it was gray. Tried for a while to find this again with a file highlighted - no luck. Back to online help: searched for move to trash : no matches found. Obvious question - how do I delete a file??? Not so obvious - where is my alternate File listing? How do I get to it? 2. Also embarrassingly simple but I've spent too much time on this as well: How do I get a new folder into my listing of files to organize it? 3. Not quite so simple: what is the easiest way of setting up a part for - say Bb Clarinet on the right pitch but without a key signature? At this point I make the file in the automatic fashion, go to Staff, Edit Staff Attributes, and choose No Key. Then I have to go through and check all the accidentals that don't show because of the transposed key and fix them. Is there an easier way? Should I try making a part for flute and then transposing and renaming it? Thanks so much for your help, and how nice to connect with a couple of old friends! [Finale] another simple (I hope!) question
I generally print on legal paper, in order to eventually have pieces done on 9 x 12 paper at the printer. This means I have to work with systems rather freely at times. At the moment I'm doing a piece for two pianos, and need to get 3 systems on a page (3 groups of 4 staves.) I cannot seem to move the second system at all, and those some others will move and some will not. I took the time to try various things under the page layout tool, but I was not able to solve the problem. Again for some reason this was not a problem in my old Finale program. Also the movement I just finished I was able somehow to work with. But it is patently clear that I don't really KNOW what works and what doesn't, and I'm wasting a lot of time messing around. Dear Finalelist, I still need answers to the following. 1. In Finale 2000 and before, I could hit say a quarter note with the 4 key (on a Mac) and it would turn into an 8th. [Finale] some questions about 2004
Dear Finale list, I'm way out of the loop. I was using Finale 2000 until recently, when I upgraded to 2004. Some changes are driving me nuts, but I suspect (hope!) there may be easy solutiopns. 1. In 2000, if I entered, say, a half instead of a quarter note, I could simply hit the 5 key on that note and it would change. No more. I have to take it out and do it over. Can this be rectified? 2. How does one put a change of clef in the middle of a bar? That was easy in 2000. Then a more sophisticated problem. Two pianos: one in three to a beat, the other in four to a beat. By hand I would put one piano in 9/8 and the other in 3/4 and line up the barlines. From previous experience I presume I will have to put both in 3/4 and use triplets, which is at least clear.
