FJORDS take Prairie Du Chien AWARDS
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This message is from Linda Syverson Kerr @ [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello there... Just unpacking the horse trailer after a wonderful weekend in Prairie Du Chien, WI, after attending Villa Louis Carriage Classic.. The FJORDS were there in numbers and well represented the breed. PAIRS: Phil Odden won the division with a mare and gelding that he drove to a very nice 4 wheeled vehicle, I sponsored a class that he drove in and many times saw the pair moving in stride ,Howard Felidler was his groom NOVICE HORSE: Dr. Chet Thomas won his division as well, a fine representation of the breed, this mare is a nicely put together mare, that moves just as nice NOVICE PONY: Michael Scott, showed Deb Ulrich's pony and won the division, he cleaned up in games as well in the ring LARGE PONY: Dr. Joan Kepros who was stunning as always in her 4 wheeled turn out, with her mare Marguerite Mead who's gelding covered grounds in Cones/Gamblers Choice/ and the Cross Country Myself, showing WW REIDARKathy and Randy Johnson's 5 yr, brown Dun Stallion. We placed in all classes except Cross Country..DRIVERS error, I missed a gate . We placed 5 th in turn out, 3 rd in Gamblers, 4 th in Cones, won our Reinsmanship and Pleasure driving classesthis was a very tough field of ponies as there were 11 in our Division. We won Reserve Champion, as we lost by 1 point. I was very honored to drive WW REIDAR.? He was VERY well behaved, he was a gentleman in the classes, only snickering to a babe near by that wanted nothing to do with him in the Turn Out line up...? He wowed people when we took our victory laps after Reinsmanship and Pleasure.I let him move out and extendI had friends there that did not know I was showing, remark to me later about Reidar's movement and how he looked like he was floatingHe was a pleasure to drive. I cannot thank Kathy and Randy for the wonderful opportunity that I was given that weekend.? It was a weekend that I will remember...as he was that wonderful to drive.? If you are looking for a Stallion that has all that and then some to breed your mare too, I would recommend Reidar.? If you are looking for a pony to do CDE's or Distance Driving then breed to this stallion or try to purchase his off spring.? Reidar has allot of heart and has the drive to compete.? Congrats to all the winners and placers above, everyone did an outstanding job ! Sincerely, Linda Syverson Kerr The FjordHorse List archives can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw

MWFHC @ Madison, WI
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This message is from Linda Syverson Kerr @[EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello Everyone, I have just come back from the WI Horse EXPO in Madison,WI. Representing the Fjords were members of the MWFHC: Tyler and Dawn Schlickman, Kathy Johnson, Patti Jo Walter and 2 helpers, Pat and Gary Holland, Rich and Nancy Hotovy and Joanne Griffin. The theme was Rock and Roll... I had to come back before seeing any performancebut the Fjord Breed was well represented. There was also a MWFHC booth in the main arena as well. The stalls were decorated with music notes, records and pictures. The info booth was smartly decorated with records that had pictures of ALOT of Fjords doing alot of different thingsreining, logging, sleighing, trail riding, driving, pictures from the 25 thneedless to say the picture/album wall said it all. There were always people around asking questions and there was always a friendly person with an answer. While I was there a Judge that Judges Quarter Horses wanted a crash course on how to Judge a Fjord...Pat, Patti Jo and I gave him an ear full of information hope he remembers it all and uses it wisely There were many MWFHC members on hand to lend a supportive hand. I have received a call from Kathy Johnson who reported that their performance went off w/o a problem. That the crowd was extremely pleased with their performance and clapped long and loud Well congrats and my hat is off to the MWFHC members for another fine performance and representation of the breed. I am off to pack and get my trailer ready as I and Markus leave on Wed., for the MN expo, where we will be joining: Linda and Ann Lottie, Kristin Lee, Heike Lewandowski, Dave and Su Ann Lusty, Hannah Boisen, Laurie With, and Bob and Therine Gudknecht. It is Heike's birthday then :). If you are in the area stop by and say hi. Anyway.if you have not been to Madison, Wi yet, you still have Sunday to catch the MFHC group and their performance.. Thank you and Happy Holidays
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This post is from Linda Syverson-Kerr @ [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello Group: I just wanted to say thank you to those that voted for me, to be a representative on the NFHR Board of Directors. I look forward to working with all those that are on the Board, promoting our breed, working on the 30 th Anniversary, show etc. I again thank you for your vote of confidence to get the job done. Christmas is almost here. We are late getting our Holiday letters in the mail, shopping is not quite done, and we need to finish decorating. I rather have enjoyed the warm days (50's) w/o snow. Somehow I managed to do more outside work, okay I was playing(riding the ponies) and less Christmas stuff. Oh well it was well worth it. So we are in the Christmas mood today.. From my family and Fjords to yours, we Linda, Jim, RJ, Spruce Hill Markus (MARKUS) , Oddens Norskewood Sunniva (SUNNIVA), and Tjeeva, wish you all Happy Holidays and if you are traveling, safe travels. Fjords Markus and Sunniva go to school
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This is posted by Jim Kerr @[EMAIL PROTECTED] As winter approaches and the cold is upon us, this is a warm fuzzy story. Hi. Most of you do not know me, but may know my wife, Linda Syverson Kerr and her horse Spruce Hill Markus. I write this to share with you how proud I am of her. Linda took her Fjords Markus and Sunniva to the Holmen High School yesterday for 8 hours, sometimes in the warmth and most of the time in the wind and cold. Much like the weather at Winona. The horses were brought into the school, into a classroom for the day. Sunniva almost made a break for it and was out of the pen heading out the door of the classroom into the Hallway with Markus in toe. Going on Sunniva and Markus' excellent adventure. Someone left the pen open. Anyway the day was about kids in the animal classes are able to tape weigh, measure, listen for heart and gut sounds, learn to groom, pick up a foot, clean it, Linda talked about the breed and what wonderful things these horses can do. Linda put a saddle on Markus and lead kids around and then she put the harness and cart on him and gave the kids cart rides. As a treat she walked Markus up the teeter totter and the box demo that they did at Winona. The kids loved it. She was able to give the kids something that most will never have a chance to do, see or touch. She has converted a kid from I think Quarter horses to looking and buying a Fjord. He says he needs to talk his parents into it. I am not the horse person, I will feed the horses, clean up after them, help Linda as much as I can and I show 1 time a year. Markus has him own fan club at school from the students, staff, to the Principals. They all come to see Markus bearing treats. The kitchen staff bring apples. As far as Linda, she has her own fan club. Our son RJ and I are her two biggest fans and always will be. Enough of my rambling I look forward as winter approaches to reading your warm fuzzies Jim Kerr The FjordHorse List archives can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw

Trail Riding on 10-1
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This message is from Linda Syverson-Kerr @[EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello Group. I just wanted to share with you a wonderful trail riding story. I picked up my Gelding, Hans Oka, that I had at Patti Jo Walters. He was there for 30 days to get him ready for a 3 day trail ride that I leave for this Thursday. We could not have asked for better weather, the sun was out, just the right temp w/ a slight breeze. Patti rode another Fjord she had in for training, I rode Hans and a friend of mine rode a steady eddy, an old schooling horse of Patti's (my friend has very little riding experience). Needed to break him in as he is going on the 3 day trail ride with me. He will be riding my Gelding, Spruce Hills Markus. WE rode for close to 3 hours, up and down hills, thru creeks, brush the flats etc. Patti has wonderful neighbors that allow her to ride their land. It was most enjoyable. Patti did an excellent job of getting Hans ready for me. He is very forward and outwalked the Fjord she rode and the steady eddy. Neither horses lost it, when a bike went peddling by, nor when the motorcycle cruised by, or when the truck roared by. The neighborhood had just been tp'd the night before. So of course the trees were littered w/ white flags. None of the horses thought twice about them. Hans was a very good horse, he stepped in a hole, part of the front leg disappeared, he step up and kept on walking. He never freaked. My friend did. Patti Jo delivered what I asked for and then some with Hans. She did a excellent job, and I feel confident in myself, him and his training to handle the 3 day ride like a true Fjord. My friend, Lise, will be running the hippology stations at the arena (if you wish to test your knowledge). There will be 3/4 age groups. Winners will be announced and awarded a prize at the evening meal. This will be a fun, eventful and a great learning experience for all ages. Wonderful weekend North
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This message is from Linda Syverson Kerr @ [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello List: I just wanted to tell everyone about the wonderful FJORD weekend, myself and my foster Daughter, Pang had this weekend at Phil Odden and Else Bigton. On Friday Pang, I and Markus (my 5 yr. Fjord gelding) I headed North (about 3 hr) for us to Phil and Else's. Pang, Phil and I bundled up, saddled up and braved the rain and slight wind. Phil took us thru the wonderful woods, and the leaves were beautiful in color and covered the forest floor, making it seem brighter then the time of day actually was. WOW. AWESOME time. This was the second time Pang had went trail riding, but the first time that we went bush whacking into the trees. Phil's horses and my gelding handled it beautifully, much like the Eveready Battery they just kept going. On Saturday, we awoke to a light blanket of snow. However, as the morning warmed up it melted. The wind. The wind cut thru you like a knife. Once again we bundled up and this time, was joined by Phil's son Ole. We went along the cross country ski trails. Then headed into the woods for up and down hill workouts, and more bush whacking. Again an another wonderful day. The horses of course were ready to go and felt good. There were no laggers. We were gone for about 3 1/2 hours. Pang was thrilled and so was I. On Sunday, we headed to the Slaters who hosted a drive and ride as part of the Northwoods Harness Club. This drive was over their wonderful land. The trail was well groomed and a treat. My gelding was ready to go. He enjoyed himself as much as I did. Phil and Else were there driving as well. There were a few other Fjord people but I did not get their names (sorry). But I did see a lot of smiles from FJORD owners and non. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the training on the horses that Phil has. I rode a 3 yr., Katrina, was that a pure pleasure to ride. Smooth. Easy on the bit. A trooper, never tense underneath me. Yet was a mover. Phil has a great opportunity when training his horses to get a lot of exposure to a lot of different things. Water, mud holes, hills, ravens, over trees, wildlife etc.. you name we either saw it, climbed it or went thru it. Oh darn, the weekend is over and I must go to work. But, I will be day dreaming about the weekend and have a smile on my face. I hope that others had a wonderful FJORD weekend as I and Pang did. Linda Syverson Kerr Holmen, WI

Cart for sale
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This message is from Linda Syverson-Kerr @ [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello list. Hope this email finds everyone in fine health and in the Holiday mood. I have for sale, 2 wheeled Road Cart for showing. I had this made 3 yrs ago for my Fjord. Made of Oak, color is Natural Wood, has plenty of flash with the Brass rein rail, hubs shaves tips. Topped off with Black Patent Leather wrapped shaves and dash board. It has a black leather seat, that lifts out for storage underneath. Pretty enough to show in and practical enough to take for a drive down the road. One enters the cart from either side in front, as there are foot pegs. The seat will sit comfortably, 2 full size adults. The shaves are 74 long, wheel size is 46. The total length is approximately 11 1/2 ft long. Will fit a 14 HH - 15 HH animal, as mine stands at 14.2. When the cart is attached to a Fjord, it makes an impressive statement and for those looking to have a eye catching Turnout, this does it. I have used this cart and my Fjord at Columbus Carriage Classic, the Carriage show in Prairie Du Chien, WI. We have won TURN OUT class at both of these shows in 2003, as well as placing highly in other classes. For those of you that have attended the Blue Earth show, we have won the TURN OUT class there for the last 2 yrs. If you are interested, please contact me via email as I could email pictures, or via the telephone at (W) 608-789-4616, this is a direct line, so please leave a voice mail, or my home 608-526-6878. I am asking $2000.00. Happy and Safe Holidays Linda Syverson Kerr Holmen, WI

SADDLES
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This message is from: Linda Syverson Kerr, [EMAIL PROTECTED] I recently rode in a Fallis Saddle that the trainer had. I loved it. I have had 6 surgries to my right knee. Since my first surgery in 1985, riding in either a Circle Y, Billy Cook, etc.. has been painful. I rode in the Fallis saddle this fall for an hour, got off and felt great. I have been prior to this looking to purchase a saddle for my Fjord. After that pain free riding experienced, I was sold. I ordered mine in December. I was able to order it for my animal. I was able to shorten the jockey by an inch, for the Fjords short back. I was able to order a saddle with a low fork. It will take 9 months to make, as it is hand made. The other downfall, they are expensive. However, riding pain free, and a saddle that is good for my horse is worth every cent. if interested, type in John Fallis Custom Saddlery. He is located out of Wyarno,WY. This was once his fathers business. The other saddle I rode in was the Aussie, liked that. But nothing like the Fallis Saddle. Linda Syverson kerr

Knee action
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This message is from: Linda Syverson Kerr [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello group. I went this weekend to a Carriage show in Columbus, WI. the Fjords were nicely presented. Mike Scott did quite well. I noticed some Fjords had more knee action then the others. Is this something that comes with age? Or are there special shoes, or or devices to get that action? Mine is 2 and is flatter in the knee, not so nicely rounded as the Scott horse. Is this something I should be concerned about? Thank you for your response Linda Syverson Kerr Holmen, WI

Can someone please tell me how I can get a copy of the show bill for Blue Earth and or how to pre reg. to show? Also, any hotel numbers?? I have a 2 yr old that is still in training, I am unsure whether I will bring him or just watch and learn. Also, any tips on how to cut the mane w/o cutting all the black out when cutting the lighter shorter then the dark. I have tried this once, I must say not bad for beginner, but it was trickey. I think I got the arc a little further back then I should have. But need it to grow out some before attempting again. Any info. is greatly welcomed. This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This message is from:Linda Syverson-Kerr[EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello Group; I purchased a Fjord, my first in Sept. 2000. His name is Spruce Hill Markus, it was a 6 hr drive one way to go get him.But he was /is worth every mile. May I just say I don't know what took so long to but one. He is a wonderful almost 2 yr old, light dun in color, with a personality that does not quit. I am currently having him trained for cart class for the local shows and maybe venture out from there. I live in Quarter Horse country. Most shows here are made of Quarter or Paint Horses. I am not the only one in the area with Fjords, but nobody else shows at open, some do at Blue Earth. Heres a couple questions if someone could take the time to respond I would be ever so thankful. Is there a set of rules in a handbook that I could obtain to inform or have incase the local show Judges dont quite know how to Judge a Fjord, ie. clipping, what should be clipped for show and what not I saw at Blue Earth some clipped for show ears, feathers, cornet band, eyes and some not, proper stance, etc.. How do other Fjord owners who show at local shows deal w/ Judges, have there been problems? Is there something I can do to stop mine from going to town w/ his mouth, he likes to wrap his lips around clothes, hair, body parts, his lead line. This is most annoying. Are there better products to use to help maintain a healthy show coat (aside from elbow grease), supplements I should feed, keep indoors during the summer days and out at night?? Last but not least. How about western saddles that fit, kind, tree size etc... I know these are alot of questions but show season is coming fast. Any help at all would be welcomed. Thank you for your time Linda Syverson-Kerr Holmen, WI 54636

This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello group. I have been reading the posting for the last couple of months trying to pick up pointers for my first Fjord. I purchased a 1 1/2 yr Fjord near Alexanderia Minn. in Sept. I am truly amazed at these animals. Some that I have met, have a personality like dog. I grew up w/ and showed Quarter Horses. Never did i ever own a animal w/ so much character. They are truly a lovely animal. I am looking into purchasing a harness. I am unsure if collar is better then breast? Any suggestions?? Looking to show at he local open shows. This is Quarter Horse Country here. There are some shows that state no draft horses, and I am curious if I was to drive in a collar harness if the Judge would reconiginze the breed, let alone not mistake my animal for a draft. Also, looking to purchase a Show Halter. Any suggestions there? I am looking at Circle Y or having one made to his measurements. However, I am afraid that upon maturing in age and growth that he may not fit??? Does anyone here show at Open shows?? If so, how do Jugdes respond to the breed. In which classess do you enter that are not breed specfic? I know I have asked alot of questions. But any help would be greatly appreciated. Re: colic
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I had mine on it and my vet swears by it. If your feeding it to more then one it isnt a waste. I ahd one animal and the bag went bad before i used all of it. Also, you add warm water so in the winter the get a warm meal. My animal had no problems after i used it. She had colic before i used it. Linda
