Hi Tish...and congratulations!
This message is from: Kay Van Natta Best of luck with the new jobs! And I'm so glad you'll still have Elph in your life. The T. program is lucky to have him for their people and he's still within hugging distance for you. CA sounds like a nice ('though somewhat expensive and geologically unstable) place to live. Let us know how it seems in real life! And hold a good thought for your colleagues who are still living as members of the frozen chosen. This message is from: Patricia Holland The 26th Annual MWFHC show was once again a hugh success. It was no easy step to move from the same location for 25 years, it shows the loyalty and care this club has for it's members and direction this club is headed to. Big congratulations to all of you for pulling this very difficult and heartfelt job off without a problem!. It was great to see all of my old friends again and thank you all for the big welcome to myslef and Robin - and allowing us to be a small part of the success of this operation. The show itself was not small by any means, 60 plus horses I believe - several classes needed to be split and a few classes were as large or larger then in prior years. I'd love to name each individual who made this event happen, and give proper thanks - but I am afraid I would leave someone out - besides it wasn't hard to see who was actively trying to help - their shirts were sopping wet, as we were in the middle of a major heat weave, that hit the Midwest for a good 10 days 3 digit. temps - it was hot! So congratulations MWFHC for another perfect event - still the best! Congratulations to Linda Syverson-Kerr!!
This message is from: "Kathy M. Johnson" We just finished up a 2.5 day clinic with Marsoe Larose here at Woodpecker Woods. We had a variety of horses and ponies represented but we also provided our tried and true fjords for participants that were not able to bring their own horse. The fjords used were Spruce Hill Markus, Ada Karin, Tjeeva and WW Reidar. Marsoe is from Vancouver BC. He is a carriage driver (single, pairs, tandem, 4-in-hand) that has competed at world level for the Canadian team, an ADS judge for both pleasure shows and CDEs, a CAA Proficiency Evaluator and an outstanding clinician! He has a great sense of humor and can make learning and improving your driving skills fun and beneficial. Everyone walked away from the clinic learning something! He likes to drive your horseschool it to correct its problems and then schools you...so you know how to go home and implement the plan!! I would strongly recommend Marsoe for any future driving clinics you may want to attend!! The Carriage Association of America has started a driver proficiency program, with emphasis on safetyhorse, vehicle, harness and driving in public. Level I is primarily for the single horse and includes a road test. Level II and Level III go into multiple hitches and much more detail. Linda took her Level I proficiency test and passed it with FLYING COLORS!!! It is great to see her back in a carriage and enjoying the sport!! I have no doubt she will be back soon.sporting a new awesome hat with bling to match!! Way to go!!! Very proud of your efforts!! Congratulations Jessica Reuterskiold
This message is from: Patricia Holland Congratulations to all of those who did well at the Blue Earth Show this year - I would like to make note of one person and her horse that did an especially great job. Jessica Reuterskiold and "Wood's Kandi" - by taking the Reserve Adult All Around and the Versatility Award. Jessica and Kandi have built an unique and outstanding relationship - Kandi came to Jessica with some major training issues. I personally watched Jessica and Tyler Schlickman work her through those problems, taking their time and doing it the right way. The results, have proven themselves over and over for Jessica and I was very proud she did so well at Blue Earth. Good horsemen + a good horse = accolades deserved. I hope others, as they get home from Blue Earth will chip in with their experiences this year. Congratulations Blue Earth 25 Years
This message is from: Patricia Holland I want to congratulate the show committee and officers of The Midwest Fjord Horse Club for once again presenting the largest venue for Fjords in North America. As of last count, numbers attending far exceed those of any event ever held. The Blue Earth show has passed the test of time and proven that the people who organize, prepare and give of their time unconditionally - do so with no personal agenda. They have been rewarded time and again with exhibitors returning to share in a piece of history and to see and feel true camaraderie and experience that a horse show can be "fun" and still be competitive. A person I once knew called various times in our lives "memory makers" - always referenced later on and - often as - "do you remember..." Blue Earth is a memory maker. The ONLY place to be in July. Although I am far away, my thoughts will be in Blue Earth next week and I sincerely wish all of you attending memories to remember. This message is from: "safreivald" "However, this next week will be busy for me since we are leaving today for Kentucky to do the Gayle CDE at prelim level this time. I will be driving Marcy and Herger and planning to move up to Intermediate level in July. I understand there will be 6 Fjords there competing this year. Phillip Odden" Congratulations to all the Fjords competing at Gayla -- Ardeth Obenauf moving up! First time competitor Lindy Hild with a very nice 5th place in training single pony, Nancy Roemer always showing a solid endeavor -- and (trumpets here!) Phillip Odden First in his division! Wonderful performance. Unfortunately, Marsha Korose was on the waiting list for pony pairs, and didn't get in (look for her at Elk Creek in June). If I missed any of the "stripeys" forgive me--I'm still catching up from a long weekend away from home. My exciting news is the acquisition of DC Sunhilde from Curt Pierce and Marsha Korose. She is a 4 year old brown dun mare by Pryderson out of Solveig and she is gorgeous. And smart. She's just been started so we have a lot of fun and good work ahead of us. This message is from: "Misha & Michael" Well that is very exciting news for your farm Debbie! You have such pretty mares there I am sure it will be a win win situation! Sorry Peg that you had to part with Erlend and I want to thank you for bringing him to the NW in the first place. As you know I have his lovely daughter Nossa out of Vies Vilde who is my favorite horse of all time. And also we have OFI Emil, a grey yearling colt who is a great-grandson and in my opinion, the spitting image of Erlend. Emil is a hilarious guy, very wise for his age and quite athletic. So I am sure I speak from all those who have benefited from his reign at your house when I say "Thank you very much for the good years and good horses Peg." Forward for Peg Knutsen/Congratulations!
This message is from: "Olivia Farm, Inc." Hello, Peg Knutsen wanted us to forward the following message for her as she is having problems with her email posting to the digest. We would like to congratulate the involved parties on their accord and wish both of them and MVF Erlend all the best! Kind Regards, Dan and Solveig Watanabe Olivia Farm, Inc. www.oliviafarm.com --- On Tue, 1/13/09, Peg Knutsen wrote: Hi and Happy New Year to you all, I want to congratulate Debbie Ulrich on her recent purchase of our pride and joy, MVF Erlend. Debbie has put together a herd of finely bred mares and fillies whose bloodlines will make nice crosses with Erlend. We couldnt be happier about his new home, knowing what good care Debbie takes of her girls - and her husband. Erlend will be worked and he will have a harem again. It may take him a while to realize that her barn is really for horses, as he has never seen a spotless barn aisle before, but Im sure he will adjust. Check it out on her website www.corgihillfjords.com . Erlend is now living with Debbie and her girls in Winona , Minnesota . Most of you know how attached I am to Erlend. Julies gift to us has been life-changing. Its very hard to see him go, even to such a perfect placement. To ease the transition for all of us, I flew out to Debbie's to be here when he arrived yesterday morning at the crack of Waaay Too Early! His Majesty arrived in fine fettle - I can't recommend his hauler, Charlie Gibson, too highly. Call Debbie for contact information if you want to use him. We hung out with Mr Terrific until he had done all the things one looks for in a baby - eat, drink, poop, and pee. Such a good boy! Mr Wonderful is being his usual charming self. It's working on Debbie, and we hope it will on the mares too... Tonight he is delighted to be stalled next to a fetching pregnant lady named Ellie. If I understand him correctly, he is saying, "Have I died? I must have, because I'm in heaven!" All the other ladies-in-waiting are making appointments with their hairdressers in case he looks their way. Apparently he has an inner conflict, as he begins to lower his elevator about four inches and then notices the wind chill is -50, and sends racing it back to the top floor again. Decisions, decisions... It's reassuring to find that some things don't change. As some of you may recall, at the 25th Anniversary Show I lived in a wind tunnel kindly provided by the Watanabes. I do get to come in at night here, but outside it's another blooming blizzard! You'd love the entertainment here, though - their 6 barn cats are delighted to show all of us how they love the stash of peyote [or whatever] they found... Whoopie! Bye for now. This message is from: "Pat Holland" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Congratulations to Jessica - good going! What a great pair you make. Talk about educating the public on what a Fjord can do... you've made the Dean's List! And congratulations to Mike & Susie Sadlon and Patti Jo with Nik. I will second the motion on what a wonderful stallion he is. Mike & Linda Neperney delivered Nik to my farm in route to Patti Jo's - I had the luck of "playing" with him for two days and what a wonderful horse he truly is. Mike & Linda took great care of him, but only used him for breeding - by the way they have several young offspring of his at their farm in Straford, Iowa - four yearlings and three alongside. You will be hearing allot about Nik this coming year - and might want to purchase a baby from them before they are sold. Mike N. is going in for surgery this summer and I've helped them place some of their other horses for them. They have some of the best - foundation bred Fjords - for sale, call or email me for more information, or Patti Jo can direct you as well. Nik walked off the trailer a total gentleman - and I have three breeding age/mature stallions and mares in heat on grounds here. We gave him some time to roll and get off his sea legs - then I rode him - after three and 1/2 years in a pasture with mares - he didn't miss a beat. Total attention, kind, sweet, ...right with the program. I even had Robin get on him - totally took care of her. He is a perfect example of what the Fjord is all about. Someone mentioned awhile back a stallion should have THE presence the kind of presence of "look at me"...(and if you don't look at me I'm going to scream and fidget until you do) - Kind of a Tom Cruise kind of a thing.. Nik and those like him don't have to scream and posture - they act more like a John Wayne - quiet and confident. Congratulations to all. This message is from: "Norsk Wood Works" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Nice job Lisa. That Emma is a nice horse. Special in many ways. I had the pleasure of starting her in driving training a year ago. She has lots of the better qualities one looks for in a fjord filly. She is still quite young and I am sure she will get better each year. What they can do now, they will be able to do much better and easier in a few years. Another reason why this filly is real special is because it has the rare primitive marking at its withers. I am so glad Emme ended up on your farm with you and your husband. Phillip Odden The FjordHorse List archives can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw

This message is from: "Linda Lehnert" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Congratulations to botht the German and American teams at the Pony Worlds in Denmark, especially to Thomas Poppen and his Fjords, and also to all of those who show their Fjords successfully. I strongly agree with Kelly that trail riding is good for your mental (and physical) health. I was at the KY Horse Park some years ago; it is beautiful and the Museum of the Horse fantastic; the Carriage Museum is also interesting. It´s unfortunate that the draft barn manager appears to be an old grouch who doesn´t like mares or Fjords. If you have any questions during the show please see us or any of the show committee listed below. For those of you familiar with the Blue Earth Show grounds - there will be NO PARKING of trailers on the south east side - by the entry gate - we're leaving that area open for a warm up area. There will be allowed parking on the south west side - from the wash rack to the fair ground area and we will have three rows of parking on the north side of the barn (the Wal Mart side). Hook-ups are limited so I am trying my best to allow those who need electric hook-up to have it - some areas will be reserved for that purpose. Our MWFHC meeting and dinner will be Sunday night at 7:00 at the 4-H Building on the fairgrounds. Mary Ofjord will have a table there where you can pick up your numbers. Again, I would like to thank everyone who has helped put this show together. Roger and Diane Whitney, Andrew Hinrichs, Jessica Katzman, Rich and Nancy Hotovy, Mike and Susie Sadlon, Tyler and Dawn Schlickman, Patti Jo Walter, Mary and John Ofjord, Linda Syverson-Kerr, Bob and Therene Gudknecht, Chuck Kelly and DeeAnn Weed, Kit Davis and Robin Holland. Andrew, Kit and Bob are our TD's again this year. In the real world TD's (technical delegates) have the power of God to make sure all is well and SAFE. They have the power to say to you - "your bit is on up side down, please fix it" or as in Bob's case the experience to stop a run away, by just looking at the horse! ( God bless him).Look for these three people for help and guidance if you need it - they, all three have more experience, knowledge and common horse sense than Carter has liver pills - good people - use them! OK,...I'm gone.have a safe trip to Blue Earth and see you there! Always, Pat Holland The FjordHorse List archives can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw

Congratulations Catherine, It's a girl!
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This message was originally sent yesterday, but did not go thru to the list for some reason... * * * Happy May Day everyone! This morning, shortly after Catherine left on a trip to WA, her mare Flip gave birth to a fine healthy filly by Blaamann. After a week of beautiful sunny weather, it clouded up last night and started what will be another whole week of rain. So of course it was the perfect time for Flip to decide to foal! To top it all off, I'm convinced the stinker knew that Catherine was leaving... Mares!! But Mom & daughter are doing well, and I'll oversee them until Catherine gets back. Catherine was notified by cell phone of the happy event and her response was something to the effect of "I knew she'd do that." This message is from: "Pat Holland" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> which brings me to oz, if I may get personal for a minute. Congratulations Laurie and to all of you who participated at the Mn Horse Fair. Laurie, I am so happy for you and your success with Oz at the Fair. Few people realize what a "zoo' those expos can be - you really never know what is around the corner and we really do ask allot of our horses to be a part of such events. Every year I've taken a first timer and you NEVER know what will trip their trigger - one year I had a horse afraid of mini's, another year the Icelandic's threw my horse into spins, once just leopard Appaloosas were enough to send my horse onto Detroit - The hardest part for me has been when dealing with an anxious horse and then meeting up with an all American family with baby carriages - who of all things want to pet your horse - I mean how do you sweetly tell this family that if they come any closer they may end up as instant mashed potatoes. You did GOOD, Laurie.very very good. I'm proud of you,. and Oz..I truly know where you came from with your fears and I admire your tenacity and spirit.good job girl. This message is from: "Pat Holland" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi Everyone, The current - up to date show schedule and class descriptions for the 2007 MWFHC Blue Earth show is up. Go to http://mwfhc.org/Events.htm to check it out. A new class is offered this year, due to popular demand and thanks to the extra effort of Andrew Hinrichs and Patti Jo Walter who are heading the organization of this class - the "Low Hunter Over Fences" Class. It will be class #34, right after the "Hunter Hack" class and before the afternoon trail classes on Tuesday, 2nd day of the show. Andrew and Patti Jo have offered to bring their own standards and poles, set up and design the class - so those of you with Fjords that can do a 2 ft - 8 jump hunter course - there's a good class for you. Thank you Andrew & Patti Jo - what great members we have! Going to be another good show - AND soon to be Mr. & Mrs Andrew Hinrichs - this week end will be their wedding! - congratulations, Andrew.. wish we could be there. Funny too - just one week before his wedding he's talking to me on the phone about Blue Earth - horse people,...gotta love them. I told him he could talk and think about Blue Earth during the wedding - but not on their honeymoon ; ) Life IS good. Congratulations to Michele Noonan!
This message is from: "Olivia Farm, Inc." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello from Olivia Farm! I have been wanting to post this message for quite a while, but have been waiting to get our web-site, http://www.oliviafarm.com updated with the good news about Knutsen Fjord's Soren (Flotren x OH Sadie). We are so excited about his new owners, Mike and Michelle Noonan of Wild Hair Ranch, Stevensville, MT. and also about Soren in general. We have had the pleasure of owning Soren since he was 4 months old and he has been quite the joy to handle and train. Earlier this spring we started him under-saddle and soon he will be ready to start in the cart. Every new obstacle and challenge has been a breeze for this super talented guy and every lesson has been calm, easy, and uncomplicated. Honestly, we keep waiting for the "three-year-old-fit" but so far, he has taken everything in stride. Michele is getting a fabulous boy and I'm happy to say that we were smart enough to retain 4 breedings for future use and have one mare, Kjor Elianna, bred to him already this season. We are continuing to stand Soren this season and have room for one or two more mares. His breeding season will be cut off mid-August and he will be attending the PNFPG show in Moses Lake. We are also standing Peppertree's Christian (Ronaldo x BDF Jennifer Ann) this season both live cover and AI. Anvil's Morgen is standing at Wild Hair Ranch in Montana until mid-July. We have one Anvil's Morgen gelding for sale, OFI Jorgen out of Peppertree's Bininka. He is coming two and a very smart and handsome guy who would do well in any discipline. There are new photos of him on our web-site from just a few weeks ago. Please feel free to contact us privately about Jorgen, about our breeding stallions, or just Fjords in general. This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello Lori- I am so very happy and excited for you and your wonderful husband and Fjords! First, congratulations on your 20 years with Stefan! It sounds like you had a truly wonderful anniversary celebration. Next, I am so happy for you, Prisco, and Kestrel regarding your Dressage awards for 2006. Your talent has always been an inspiration to me and many in the Fjord community. When I watched your performance at the Finger Lakes Fjord Horse Show in 2005, I was awe struck by the beauty of your art. It was amazing! Last, but not least, congratulations on your accomplishment with Prisco. I don't know exactly what "three fours" is, but it sounds as if it's a huge accomplishment for you both. Once again, you inspire me to realize I can do anything I put my mind to... Through patience and hard work, it will happen! :-) So, thank you for the inspiration and your continued hard work at putting the Fjord in an impressive stance with other breeds. Re: Congratulations, Maggie Sullivan
This message is from: "Ed Sullivan" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Thank you, Sue, for your very kind words here, and friendly support at the Laurels -- when will this ol' horseshow mom get over the jitters on show day?! Maggie had a great time and learned a LOT -- you can see her growing as a driver each time she competes at a CDE, it's so rewarding! There's still a lot of work to do on dressage, and they should try to school cones before an event, but didn't they SMOKE the hazards? You don't have to ask the pony which phase is her favorite. Regarding turnout, Maggie and Andy felt that she was underdressed in just a country blouse, but I wanted to keep her looking young for awhile -- she's only 14 ! I learned sooo much as groom this weekend -- do all of you use black shoe polish on your harness, and parade gloss? What a difference it makes! As Sue says, the Laurels is a phenomenal event, really spectator-friendly, with all the driving -- including every hazard, oops I mean obstacle -- within sight of the main tent-- lots of vendors, US team members up-close and personal, jazz band playing... check out www.laurelscde.org and www.garyknollphotography.com to see what we mean. My one regret from our Laurels trip is that I wasn't videoing Nancy's marathon -- if only I had been recording Hazard 1, when her husband/navigator scooped up her whip off the ground, it was priceless! Ann in CT giving Riena another day off -- she earned it! - Original Message - From: mom Sent: Monday, September 11, 2006 4:10 PM To: fjordhorse-digest Subject: Congratulations, Maggie Sullivan This message is from: "mom" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I had the privilege of volunteering at the Laurels at Landhope this past weekend, and what a pleasure it was to see our own Maggie Sullivan with Andy Marcoux as navigator/coach turn in a really lovely performance. 8th in dressage, FIRST in Marathon, she came in 6th overall in the preliminary single pony division . . . made some of those "older folks" sit up and take note! Ran into some trouble on the marathon and was eliminated, but with real class continued the next day to drive the (very tricky) cones course for no score. It was a super weekend! I worked dressage warm up on Friday and got to watch all of the intermediate and advanced tests, then hazard timer on Saturday and cones outgate on Sunday. This was Shiloh and Arve's "coming out" She ended up finishing in fourth place out of the 16 entered in the Prelim. division which I think is just terrific. ** And again, Beverly thank you for sharing Shiloh's success with us with Arve. Arve is by Hostar - and as most of you know I've had Hostar in my life for nearly a year now for owner Melinda Springs of Bellevue, Idaho. When I hear of his offsping doing well, it's difficult not to be say something. With this year celebrating the 25 years NFHR has been in existence, it's interesting what thoughts come to mind. Many people have worked hard with sincere dedication to make the Registry what it is today. Names are endless, but, as a trainer - what I am most attached to are the horses. The horses brought here and raised here and trained here and bred here, and promoted here - to me it's all about the horse. I know they wouldn't be here without the "people" but it's the horses that have endeared me. Hostar, like Gjest and many MANY other great stallions, oh to name just a few- from my list of greats - the Steinfinn's, I have such great admiration for - that come from and thru the Unrau's - have left an immeasurable legacy to us here in North America. I love it when I see an offspring take the battalion, so to speak, from their sire AND dam. (Least we forget the female influx.) So congratulations to all of the "next generations" - just think for a moment when the 50th Year Anniversary is celebrated.. perhaps these horses that we see today, and hear about today will not only carry on, but make a legacy of their own. With good cheer For the future. Pat Holland

This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Dear Jensen Clan, Happy Anniversary and many happy miles ahead in your new carriage! Will you be coming to the NFHR birthday party in Winona MN this fall? It's always a treat to see and learn from you at any event! Winter in SE MI has been very strange...lots of rain and temps in the 40s (F). Today it's supposed to get to 52F and tonight we're told that 6 inches of new snow will be arriving! I'm starting to get climatic whiplash. My ponies are shedding like crazy even though I've posted a calendar (a Fjord calendar, of course) in the barn and spend part of their breakfast period every morning explaining it to them. They don't seem to care. I could knit another pony out of the hair that falls while they're munching. Have fun celebrating! I had sold Wayne and his wife, Peggy Wolf, a Fjord mare, Tura, this fall. Well, Tura who is age 20 and a maiden, had a lovely brown dun last week. Apparently during the 4 day period where Tura had ultrasounded open and our stallion, Ironwood Blitzen, left for under saddle training, he managed to do the deed. This message is from: "Linda Lehnert" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Congratulations, Sue! You and Lilly and Silija are demonstrating what having and enjoying good horses is all about, doing things you enjoy, having fun with them and showing others how much fun Fjords can be. Having worked for 2 neurosurgeons many years in the '60s and 70s in Dallas, I have seen thousands of patients with all kinds of neck and back problems and it is a tribute to your Fjords that you are able to ride, not to mention to your own perserverance. I'm glad to see you are still able to enjoy your horses. As to weanlings, I agree with those who have stated that obviously one factor is the price. I am appalled with what I see for Fjord prices in N. America; they are much more reasonable over here. However, I think another problem is age. In my experience with young Morgans many people do not want to buy weanlings, yearlings or two year olds, but want one that is at least started under saddle or green broke to ride. If someone has the time and can work with them, young horses are wonderful, great fun and a great opportunity to bond early. However, many people are looking for rideable horses and don't want to have to wait so long and only do groundwork in the interim. I have known Morgan breeders who will keep a fine colt who is definitely a stallion prospect entire until the right person comes along. If the colt has good temperament and the owner has the place to keep him, this should not be a problem. I have had several young and grown Morgan stallions and they were all easily handled by an amateur (me). I would personally rather wait and keep a good colt entire for the right buyer if I had the place than geld a good stallion prospect. Just my 2 Euro cents worth. Condolences, congratulations, Julie's Celebration
This message is from: "Knutsen Fjord Farm" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi everyone - Ursula, please accept my condolences and best wishes. I can hardly imagine how awful you must have felt when you discovered your mare, lifeless, in the field. How sad! One cannot make sense of it, and can only grieve. Take care. Patty, You had a wonderful season with Silas. Many congratulations to you both. Finally, I've just returned from attending the Memorial Celebration of Julie Will's life. Several hundred people - family, friends, neighbors, and Fjord folks, came to Old Hickory Farm and shared food, drink, and memories. This was the way Julie and Darryl wanted to acknowledge her, and, while difficult in many ways, it was truly appropriate. She was represented there as daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, mentor, and outstanding Fjord Horse breeder. Looking at the photos and memorabilia, seeing what people had written, talking with one another, it was impossible to miss the contribution she made [and will continue to make] to the Fjord breed. We were all very fortunate to have had her in our lives. On Sunday, Lori Albrough and Stephan Vorkoetter hosted me at their farm near Toronto. Don't miss the chance to see it if you are ever nearby, as it is a fine example of a well thought out horse facility. The horses are beautiful - the farm is beautiful. I then had the pleasure of watching lessons on Sparrow and Dutch with Lori's coach, Ute. Go Lori! Bye for now - I need to go figure out what time zone I am in and do some chores. I have enjoyed the recent posts about ground training and difficult horses. There has been much helpful and expert information. I would like to add my agreement with Lori A's solution for dealing with the particular horse described. Bye - Peg Peg Knutsen - Ellensburg, WA http://www.eburg.com/~kffjord/

This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] In a message dated 6/17/2002 6:27:46 PM Pacific Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: > Does anyone out there > have any suggestions on how to desensitize a stallion to mares- The best way I've ever found to do this is to put the stallion in pasture with the mares. Ideally, if you raise your stallion to be pastured with other horses - whether it's mares or geldings or even another stallion - you end up with a horse that is familiar with natural herd etiquette (AKA - the mares ARE the bosses) and behaves accordingly. I do realize that this method isn't for everyone; it is not always possible. But in my own opinion it makes for a better mindset. Dad, Mom & myself would also like to congratulate Aaron & Jane Zeeb of Turner, OR on the recent addition of Anvil's Morna and Dun Lookin' Olga to their family. This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Greetings from Cornerstone Fjords in Deer Park, WA!, I was so pleased to see both old friends and meet new ones at the Spring Fjord Meeting. We added a few new members and had a wonderful horse art display from a local artist Anne Handler who came to show us what might be done with fjord art and graphics. Steve Henricks brought some of his custom made harness and halters and was available to answer some harnessing questions. Our Chairman Bill Webber guided us through the meeting and a good time was had by all. Our hosts at the North Spokane Farm Musuem made us feel welcomed and we all enjoyed seeing farm implements and early home accesories. On a personal note we would like to congratulate Cathy Cowan of Valley Center, CA. on her purchase of our wonderful gelding Duffy! As sad as it will be to see him go we are confident he is going to a warm, loving home. We welcome Cathy to the world of fjords:). Duffy was our first fjord and we have memories to last a lifetime, he will be in our hearts forever. Our older mare Agneta is due to foal the first week in June and we look forward with great excitement to the new arrival. I have enjoyed reading about all the new arrivals and hope to share some photos after our big day arrives. Take care and enjoy the beautiful spring weather cropping up a bit at a time. Our Fjords all spend the winter outside; we have no barn, just a good stand of trees to break the worst of the wind - and we never use a blanket except in the case of a hot (hard worked) horse or sick horse. This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Arthur Rivoire) Hi from Carol Rivoire at Beaver Dam Farm in Nova Scotia - Lori, It's not bragging, but very well deserved pride in your and your horse's accomplishments. Absolutely super! You're doing the breed proud, and having fun too. Elaine Olsen in Los Angeles, who competes BDF Idar very successfully in dressage has made much the same comment. She's said she's never had so much fun with any of her other dressage horses. How very nice to work hard and find that you've achieved both enjoyment and success. By the way, Elaine is now getting into Musical Keurs. This week we've got another top instructor visiting us. Barbara Black from South Carolina. Barbara has been involved with horses all her life starting with Pony Club, foxhunting, driving and other activities inbetween. She's been Chef d'Equipe for the U.S. international driving teams several times. Also been president of the ADS, and manager of Gladstone Equestrian Facility. She's working with Arthur and I, our staff, and our horses this week. It's great fun, and we're certainly learning a lot. Nice to GET lessons for a change, rather an always giving them. This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi, I recently received an email from Pam Adler telling me about her first dressage show. Had been waiting to see if she'd do a bit of bragging, but guess she is too humble so I'll do it for her. Pam purchased a young gelding, Dustin's Erixon, from us earlier this spring. He was Grand Champion gelding at Turlock last year. He is sired by Dusty and is out of our Solar daughter, AFI Celestial. 'Eric' has always been quite a special Fjord, lovely movement. I had visions of him doing some awesome reining or dressage. Anyway, Pam just proved me right. She said that Eric won his Intro Level One test with a score of 71.05. Guess that was the highest score of the day! WAY TO GO, PAM & ERIC!! Keep up the good work! Celestial just gave us a full sister to Eric last week. Boy is she a corker, very feminine and very correct! She, too, was one of those babies who slept standing up. Laughed at her the first day - she was snoozing vertically leaning on the stall wall! Congrats again, Pam. Can't wait to hear MORE!! Gayle Ware Field of Dreams Eugene, OR www.fjordhorse.com

Re: Congratulations!
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello List, Amy, I talked with Brian Jacobsen about BNF Jera yesterday evening, just have not had a chance to share what he told me! Things are getting hectic around here! Brian says that in his opinion, BNF Jera is 99.9% chance a red dun. He says she has some signs in her coloring that lead him to that conclusion. The first being no black in her mane, tail, or dorsal stripe. This in and of itself is not so very unusual, unless coupled with other coloring oddities, such as hooves. All four hooves are uniformly a creamy yellowish color. On top of that, she is so very pale. Brian says the only Fjords which are born with 4 light colored hooves and no black are either red or yellow duns. Apparently the hoof color is the main indicator. Yellow duns are not able to be derived from the breeding of two brown duns, hence she is a red dun! (Boy, I hope I am getting this out all right!) Brian also said that both brown duns, sire and dam, must have this red dun recessive gene in their pedigree. BNF Jera's sire, Engar, was sired by Gjestarson 102-A, who sired at least two red dun fillies. Unfortunately, with Engar's lineage, the majority were not registered with the NFHR, so that is about as far as I was able to persue. Renate, the dam of BNF Jera, also is very hard to research, as many in her line show a bunch of "unknowns" in the progeny files. However, Grabb is her great grandsire, and he had sired at least one red dun. Hence, both sire and dam carry the red dun recessive gene. I hope this is fairly clear, and of help to someone down the line. I also hope I accurately stated what Brian Jacobsen told me. He has a wealth of information regarding Fjord colors and he is exceedingly patient in teaching and sharing what he knows. Take care! She's terrific and seems to be doing well." are comments from Margaret. Margaret has jumped into the Fjord world with both feet. She is working with Curt Pierce to establish an Evaluation in Virginia WOW! Thank you Margaret for your business. (Serina will foal out with a Blaamann baby in June.) Congratulations to Kristi's new owner...Ginny Cowles of Rowe, NM. I was told that after the first day, Kristi whinnies to Ginny when Ginny comes to the barn. This is nice to hear. This message is from: "Knutsen Fjord Farm" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi all - Doug and I want to congratulate Fred and Lois Pack on their recent purchase of KFF Vilhelmine [aka silly Willie filly]. Willie, the first Erlend foal on this coast, will go home with them in a few weeks, after she is weaned. We know they will treat her with the abject adulation to which she is accustomed, and will allow us to visit now and then. I will be visiting Julie Will when they pick up Willie, so I will be spared the trauma of seeing her drive off [literally] into the sunset. Sigh Pepper, our coming 3 filly by Leidjo, and Sonny, our coming 2 gelding by Rusten, are still happily running around, unaware that they are also for sale - to the right homes, of course. See our web site, http://www.eburg.com/~kffjord/ , for details. We have also come to the difficult decision to offer our foundation broodmare, Anvil's Silka, for sale. We feel the need to do this in order to see our way clear to buying a filly [hopefully grey] in Norway this spring. Silka is a marvelous broodmare, having produced 4 fine foals for us, and more before that at Anvil Acres. Silka's first 2 babies at our farm, Rocky and Pepper, earned Reds in conformation at the NFHR Evaluation in Eugene. Rocky was 15 months old, and Pepper, 3 months old at that time. Sonny will not be Evaluated, since he is gelded, but I believe Willie will do well when/if the Packs take her to be Evaluated. We gave Silka a well-earned rest this year, but will repeat the breeding to Erlend in the spring, and offer her in foal. She is 14, and the boss hoss around here. One caveat - she likes to be sung to in the evenings just before she foals. We just said goodbye to Oda Muench and her husband who are on their way to the Jensens'. We had a very enjoyable, if brief, visit with them, and look forward to seeing Oda in Nordfjordheid this spring. They are very nice folks! I met them last spring, but I want to say that the common ground we share because of this Digest helped us feel like old acquaintances right away. Thanks again, Steve! Bye for now - Peg Knutsen
new pictures, congratulations, brag alert.
This message is from: "Knutsen Fjord Farm" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi all - Doug posted some new pictures on our web site last night. They are on the Erlend, Erlend Kids, Herd, FOR Sale, and Farm pages. Please let us know if we are getting too many pictures up and they are taking too long to load. We can rotate the old ones off. Doug goes in for his fusion tomorrow, so send any good thoughts you can spare our way, please. We are expecting everything to go fine, but it is a daunting experience. He hopes to be pain free afterward, though it would be more reassuring if the literature said something better than - "...this surgery may help..." We want to congratulate the owners of OH Hannah [Brian Jacobsen?], and WSF Lady Liberty [J. Bonner], who received "1" premies in the Van Bon Evaluation, as well as the owners of OH Tira [Phil and Deborah Juran], and OH Troya [J Bonner], who got "As". These are all Erlend progeny. Erlend is very proud of them and would LOVE to see pictures of them! Mr. Van Bon remarked that he hadn't seen Erlend, but that he must be a good stallion to have produced these offspring. [blush, blush] Bye for now - Peg Knutsen http://www.eburg.com/~kffjord/

Re: congratulations to the Gjovik's!
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (James Rollins) Cornerstone Fjords would like to congratulate the Gjoviks of Powell,Wyoming on their purchase of our two weanling fillies: Cornerstone's Skjonnhet (Penfrydd's Raynor daughter), and Cornerstone's Ekko (Trinity's Samstein daughter). These wonderful, loving, fillies will have all kinds of new adventures in the wilds of Wyoming and we hope to see them at Libby in a few years. We enjoyed our trip to deliver them and even included a trip through Yellowstone Park on the way home. Apart from being waylayed in Butte for an unxpected transmission rebuild we made it home safely. Upon returning home I underwent some surgery (long time coming "women stuff"), and so now after a week I finally feel we are home again! It is nice to be home! We had a great Libby show with many ribbons brought home including a first, three seconds, and a fifth won by our younger mare Budeia. I was so pleased with her. We plan on riding and driving her next year at the show. Our Gelding Duffy was a trooper, went in lots of classes, won a number of ribbons and even wore a giant foam flower in the kid's costume class. The fillies settled in well at the show and Ekko even won a third in the fillie's class out of 10 -12 . Altogether we brought home 13 ribbons! I was so busy and worn out at the show I am sorry If I didn't get to visit with as many people as I normally do, hope to catch you next year! Many thanks to Ursula Jensen for the surprise 40th fjord Birthday cake during the fun potluck with the Daytons:) The notices for the fall P.N.F.P.G. meeting are in the mail. They are bright pink and tri-folded, do not throw them out! Hope to see a great turnout at this Leavenworth meeting! Take Care. Kathleen Rollins Deer Park, WA.

This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Listers, Just wanted to say congratulations to Leela Standal from Aptos, CA. on her recent purchase of our 3 year old gelding, Dustin's Erixon. He is sired by Dusty and is out of our Solar daughter. Eric will stay with us to be started under saddle. We will then bring him with us to the show in Turlock for Leela. Congratulations are also in order to Dan & Carol Tripp from Victor, MT on their recent purchase of our junior stallion, Majson. Dan & Carol have 2 Dusty daughters which they purchased from us as weanlings. When those mares were old enough for training, they shipped them to me. That summer, I'm sure those girls must've thought 'life as they knew it,' was over! I started them under saddle, bred them both to Majson, and put them through the Evaluation that I hosted here in Eugene. I bet they thought that was SOME summer camp!! I showed both mares for Tripps & they each earned their Evaluation medallions in Western. One of them, Dustin's Celebrielle even received a BLUE in conformation. That, in turn, earned their dam, Paradise's Celebrity, her 'produce' award through the Evaluation program. By the way, Celebrity was recently purchased by Mel & Dean Thomas of Snohomish, WA. I am, in turn, purchasing from Dan & Carol, a gray, yearling son of Majson's, the result of one of those breedings during that 'memorable summer camp.' He is out of the blue ribbon mare, Celebrielle, who is sired by Dusty. This colt is really the culmination of our selective breeding program. I am EXCITED! I have not seen him in person yet, only pictures. The verdict will be out on him for a while as to whether he remains a stallion. Those of you who know me, know that I am a NAZI when it comes to gelding boy horses! He certainly has the credentials to 'be somebody,' at least on paper. If he doesn't 'make the cut,' I will 'make the cut.' Are you listening, Johan?? He will arrive here around the first of August. Majson will not be making his trek to MT. 'til later in the month. He has one more semen shipment to complete before departing for MT., a re-run for him thanks to FedEx for mishandling the 'blue bucket' causing the container to come open en-route! Majson told me he didn't mind in the least!! Men - they're all alike!! LOL! I will likely bring Johan with us to the Turlock show for his first outing. Will see everyone there! Also to those with questions on bugs...I live in Maine where black flies are also prevelent, but also house flies. I found a source of parasitic wasps that eat fly larvae, but not any other beneficials. Has anyone tried these? How about bacillus thrungeins (spelling?..commonly known as B.T.) for black flies? It is a bacteria that effects some pests and is used by some organic farmers. Does anyone know about that? The fly masks do work well. Thank you all for your advice on mare's housing. I have only two horses, and my mare has her own paddock now next to the genlding's. They nap side by side in the sun with the fence dividing them. She can come and go in her stall throughout the day. I hope to put them together again once the foal learns about fencing some as the larger pasture is fenced with single strand electric fence which works well for the two I have.
