[flexcoders] Creating variable name dynamically
I'm in a situation where I need to create a number of components at runtime, at different time intervals. A user presses a button and I create a set of components. They press the button again, and another set of the same components is created. My problem is that one of the components created is a checkbox, which needs to be used later. I can store component information in an array so I can reference it later, but the problem is that the information in the array will only hold the initial value of the checkbox, and not the current value. Currently I have a function like the following that creates the required controls when the button is pressed: private function createStuff():void { if (index maxLimit) { var chkCheckbox:CheckBox = new CheckBox; var txtInput:TextInput = new TextInput; myArray[index] = [txtInput, chkCheckbox]; index++; } } This is a simplified version, but it works as intended. I have a function that does stuff with these components, but only the selected ones. How can I tell what checkbox is selected? They are all called chkCheckbox! I need to have a unique name for each one, so I can loop through them and use this[chkCheckbox+i].selected to see which ones I perform the 2nd function on. What's the best way to achieve this? [flexcoders] Re: Can I force a redraw of my dataGrid?
Derrick, Thanks again, and once again, you have led me to another question. I'm aware of using the bindable metatag, and also am using the binding.utils.bindProperty method to handle some other bindings I need manually, but I'm now wondering if i can do the following: Can I create an Object, and as I create properties on that Object, tell the property to be bindable, in ActionScript. I'm assuming the metatag tells the compiler to create the necessary watchers, but it would be really nice if that were a property I could set while I'm dynamically creating properties of an Object...something like: var myObj:Object = new Object(); myObj.publisher = ''; myObj.publisher.bindable=true; Using the binding.utils.bindProperty method works great when I know exactly the two locations between which I want to share data, but it isn't as nice as creating a typed class within an ArrayCollection as bindable that you can easily fit into (and broadcast changes to) a datagrid. A typed value object is basically an object that matches to some data entity you are working with. You create a class to define the entity, give it properites (that are bindable) and then put instances of that class into the ArrayCollection instead of non descript Objects ie class BookVO { [Bindable] public var title: String; [Bindable] public var author: String; [Bindable] public var ISBN: String; public function BookVO():void { } } ... and then loop through the results from the webservice and for each item, create a new BookVO, fill in the properties and add that to the ArrayCollection. I imagine you are probably currently doing something similiar to var book = new Object(); book.author = xmlNode.ItemAttributes.author; book.title = xmlNode.ItemAttributes.title; book.ISBN = xmlNode.ItemAttributes.ISBN; This is certainly very easy to start with, but in the long run causes more headaches for a variety of reasons. By using typed objects with bindable properties, it leverages the Flex components awareness of changes in those objects, basically the components listen to the objects for changes, which means you don't have to manually refresh things when changes happen. Derrick Grigg - www.dgrigg.com --- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, livinginswitzerland rickgeorge@ wrote: Thanks Derrick... The project is a management an visualization tool for history dates. It is still in progress, and not all features are complete. For a beginner like me, it was easy to develop the data management part. But i noticed, that for the visualization is a more programming knowledge, especialy in actionscript, required. I uploaded also the scources of the visualisation part, there a only a few lines. But the code is still buggy, because i'm not able to change the length of my rectangles inside a createChildren() function. I would be pleased if you've perhaps a idea to solve it. All these styles are accessible via styleManager and it works for elements that doesn't display html text. But, I want to use these class selectors in an html text. Is there a way to get the external css loaded at compile time under a stylesheet object to set any textfield elements ? It seems not. So, is the only way to get css style in html, is to load external css at runtime, create a new stylesheet object, parse the css text and then set the textfield elements with this stylesheet ? If so why this constraint ? Why the styleManager is unable to provide a stylesheet object and cannot be enumerated ? And finally why the Text component has not a styleSheet property like the textArea ? Ah, i feel better... A lot of questions i know. [flexcoders] Re: HTTP Status 500 Error using SSL endpoint
Peter, I believe the add-no-cache-headersfalse/add-no-cache-headers property was the fix. I mentioned this on the Adobe forum post, too, for others who might have a similar problem. I think I understand what you mean by unique endpoint mappings. I have not yet tried this, though. My latest attempts had been using only one channel - I had replaced the non-ssl channel (default) with an ssl channel. SSL is now working with one channel after adding the no-cache property. The next step for me is to determine how to keep this working after adding back the standard non-ssl channel. And, using the Flex - CF wizard, how to instruct it to use a specific channel with the default destination of ColdFusion. The wizard writes all RemoteObject calls using that default destination. Like this: mx:RemoteObject id=dataManager showBusyCursor=true destination=ColdFusion source=MyArtDemo.components.cfgenerated.Artists mx:method name=getMasterQuery result=getMasterQuery_result(event) fault=server_fault(event) / mx:method name=deleteItem result=deleteItem_result(event) fault=server_fault(event) / /mx:RemoteObject So, in a nutshell, if I have multiple channels defined under the ColdFusion destination, how do I indicate which channel the wizard should use? I see that the RemoteObject class has an endpoint property, but trying to edit the wizard's default code with every build defeats the purpose of having a wizard. I'm probably missing something obvious. Anyway, thanks for helping me get SSL using RemoteObject working! -Tony --- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, Peter Farland [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I replied to the Adobe forums - the requirement to add some path info to your secure AMF channel endpoint was, in spirit, correct... here's what I posted: I just want to restate knallore's poste regarding channel definitions as it is essentially correct, but the issue was that he didn't realize that /flex2gateway was the servlet mapping already (not the context root). Please check that your equivalent entry for ColdFusion 7.0.2's web.xml (i.e. for /flex2gateway/*) includes the /*. Also, as always, please ensure that you don't have a dirty classpath with older versions of CF Mystic and/or beta versions of FDS too. Also, can you try adding the following property to your channel-definition properties section: add-no-cache-headersfalse/add-no-cache-headers ...restart the server and try again? Note that you can use something like Paros Proxy on the client to debug SSL / HTTPS requests... but you could also rely on mx:TraceTarget level=0 and the debug Flash Player / flashlog.txt to see what was being sent. [flexcoders] Accesing complex structures in result from WebServices
Hi I need to use some already deployed webservices made in RAD (Rational Application Developer) and published in a WebSphere v6[.1] server. I'm new in consumig web services in Flex so i referred to the docs and try to find out how to do that in the right way. The services are defined with parameters that can be complex structures and may be in-out-inout and have a return type that in the services i need to consume is a int type. When i define this web service in flex and i make the call websphere receive this call with the parameters that i sent correctly (complex structures included) but when i look for the result in the WebService.Operation.lastResult field back in Flex i just find the int return (Number for ActionScript) from the web service but i can't have the values of the complex structures that are defined inout. So if some of you have faced this problem before or have some docs or hints for me it will be very appreciated Thanks in advance and regards -- Leonardo Moreno Guzmán http://leo.logtar.com http://www.flickr.com/photos/leillo/ | http://www.flickr.com/people/leillo/ -- Flexcoders Mailing List FAQ: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/flexcoders/files/flexcodersFAQ.txt Search Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexcoders%40yahoogroups.com Yahoo! [flexcoders] Re: Setting a filter for the UITextField inside a button?
Hi Dan, Thanks for the tip. I started to do that but then just moved adding the filter to a seperate method which I called after the parentDoc does it's addChild. The reason is that the parent doc calls createChildren when it adds the component to the displayList. In the buttons case it was trying to validate a 2nd UITextField ( part of the UIComponents createChildren method) I wrote some more about it at http://thefactoryfactory.com/wordpress/?p=75 because I was pretty psyched to get it figured out. In the future I think I'll go the route of overriding createChildren though, as per your recommendation. --- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, Daniel Freiman [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I forget the exact reason why this is happening, but the workaround is to move your code to the createChildren function. - Dan On 10/3/06, joshuajnoble [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, I'm trying to add a dropShadow to a button like so: public class DropShadowButton extends Button { private var ds:DropShadowFilter; public function DropShadowButton():void { super(); ds = new DropShadowFilter(); var a:Array = new Array(); a.push(ds); this.textField = new UITextField(); this.textField.antiAliasType = flash.text.AntiAliasType.ADVANCED; this.textField.filters = a; this.addChild(textField); } } which works fine until, inside UIComponent.as, I throw an error reading: TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter antiAliasType must be non-null. at flash.text::TextField/set antiAliasType() at mx.core::UITextField/validateNow ()[C:\dev\GMC\sdk\frameworks\mx\core\UITextField.as:1427] at mx.core::UITextField/set nestLevel()[C:\dev\GMC\sdk\frameworks\mx\core\UITextField.as:956] out of these lines of code: if (child is ILayoutManagerClient) ILayoutManagerClient(child).nestLevel = nestLevel + 1; else if (child is UITextField) UITextField(child).nestLevel = nestLevel + 1; Can anyone shed any light on what's going on under the hood? -- Flexcoders Mailing List FAQ: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/flexcoders/files/flexcodersFAQ.txt Search Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexcoders%40yahoogroups.com Yahoo! RE: [flexcoders] Re: HTTP Status 500 Error using SSL endpoint
You should add back the normal AMFChannel definition (that transports messages over HTTP) as it will coexistwith the SecureAMFChannel definition (that transports messages over HTTPS). As stated before, because both channels use the same servlet mapping in their endpoint addresses the message broker requires that the distinguish themselves with further information - in J2EE this is achieved by addingpath info after the servlet mapping. I think you've got a handle on this now. So, let's turn to destination configuration. You assign more than one channel definition to a destination when you are unsure whether one (or more) of the endpoints will be available. An example would be a MessageService destination that hopes to use RTMP for real-time communication but in the event that this protocol is not supported it could fall back to an AMFChannel with polling set to true. Another example would be a RemotingService destination that hopes to use AMF over HTTP for more efficient communication due to the compact binary format used by the AMFChannel, but in the event that a deployment blocks non-text MIME types it could fall back to an HTTPChannel as it uses an XML based format for communication. The key point, however, is that only one channel will be used and it will be the first one that successfullyconnects. If you're finding keeping compile time configuration in sync with runtime server configuration problematic then you have other options. You can consider not compiling in services configuration and instead programmatically construct a ChannelSet for a RemoteObject using the ActionScript APIs and add one or more appropriate instances of a Channel implementation (such as AMFChannel or SecureAMFChannel). The ChannelSet instance is assigned via the channelSet property of RemoteObject. The same is true for any RPC Service in Flex. Moreover, if you don't want to deal with ChannelSets you can use the legacy endpoint attribute on the mx:RemoteObject tag - this will create for you a default ChannelSet using the AMFChannel if the URL starts with http:// or the SecureAMFChannel if the URL starts with https://. Note, however, that this attribute exists to support old styled app syntaxfrom Flex 1.5 and is only available on RemoteObject and only available on the MXML API for RemoteObject. If any of the terminology is not clear, the architectural components of enterprise messaging are well summarized here: http://www.enterpriseintegrationpatterns.com/toc.html Note that RPC services represent a special use of enterprise messaging... they send remote procedure calls as a message to a destination using a Producer and wait for an asynchronously acknowledgement messagethat correlates to the request message. (This differs from publish/subscribe messaging as the RPC services do not allow other consumers to subscribe to the results). As for why add-no-cache-headersfalse/add-no-cache-headers fixes the problem - I know of two issues with MSIE 6 and HTTPS. The first is that the presence of the HTTP response header "Pragma: no-cache" seems to cause MSIE to drop the binary data of the response body before the Flash Player can get access it (and thus it can't deserialize the result(s) to your outstanding request(s)). The second appears to be due to an HTTP response header Expires with a time set to before the current time. Although this technique is often used to immediately expire content so that it isn't cached, it seems MSIE doesn't handle this. A fix would be to set the Expires header to a very short time in the future, say 2 seconds... however the FDS channel-definition configuration does not yet provide a way to set individual response headers. As such, just stopping the channels from setting any caching settings will fix the issues in MSIE - though one may still fine tune the caching behavior of the client using a J2EE servlet filter that intercepts requests made to the message broker servlet. I mentioned this on the Adobe forum post, too, for others who might have a similar problem.I think I understand what you mean by unique endpoint mappings. I have not yet tried this, though. My latest attempts had been using only one channel - I had replaced the non-ssl channel (default) with an ssl channel.SSL is now working with one channel after adding the no-cache property. The next step for me is to determine how to keep this working after adding back the standard non-ssl channel. And, using the Flex - CF wizard, how to instruct it to use a specific channel with the default destination of ColdFusion. The wizard writes all RemoteObject calls using

[flexcoders] Reducing compiled SWF file size without RSL

With -optimize flag, mxmlc returns a 147KB file, which, for the components included and the future use of the app (a ticker embedded in HTML) is unacceptable. As it's the only SWF i'm coding, using RSL is worthless. (isn't it?) Any tips on reducing the file size? I'm using Flex 1.5. Does Flex 2 compile smaller SWFs? [flexcoders] monitoring dataservice fills on lookup tables prior to createItem
I am trying to add a new record. This record will need values from 3 different lookup tables, so I issue fills on the respective collections before I start creating my new record. i.e. Record: contact Lookups: countries, contacttypes, markets In this asynchronous world, however, before I can create and save my new contact, I need to make sure the 3 fills have completed successfully. My first thought was to create a collection of some sort where I would add pending data operations with a status of Pending and then on successful result, change that status to Complete. I would attach an event listener to the collection that dispatches an event each time a status is updated. I could then listen for that event and once my 3 data operations are Complete, I could trigger the creation and saving of my contact object. But it sounds messy. Any suggestions? RE: [flexcoders] Re: Drag n Drop between 2 Datagrids
Actually, here is something that might work better for you. If you use ArrayCollections as the dataProviders for both of the DataGrids, you can watch for the collectionChanged event on the ArrayCollections and recalculate the totals when the collection changes. That way you can programmatically add and remove rows and not have to recode all your logic J Nice and easy. Read the docs on the ArrayCollection and check out the collectionChanged event. That should get you going. RE: [flexcoders] SOAP Web Services and registerClassAlias
Hi Paul, registerClassAlias(...) is used by the Flash Player to drive AMF serialization/deserialization. In the web service scenario, you're not getting back AMF formatted data so this built-in function doesn't help out. For now, you'll need to write your own helper classes that take the e4x formatted result from your web service invocation and use it to create a typed instance(s) of your choosing. Streamlining this process is on our roadmap. Re: [flexcoders] does the CFC/AS namespace path have to match?
My question wasn't regarding the ability to pass functions back... sorry for not being clear. My question is whether or not the location of the AS file has to match the location of a CFC file for the namespace path for AS Classes and CF CFC types. When I pass an Object of type com.objects.Object1, it seems that CF is looking for the CFC type at com.objects.Object1 even if I have the type set to a different location (com.cfcobjects.Object1 for example). RE: [flexcoders] Re: SQL Server and Flex 2
I have not set up parallel access paths so that I could benchmark these protocols. Intuition tells me that the extra data load and extra parsing that must be associated with SOAP messages must make that a little slower. But I must also say that both methods are very fast and would not let theoretical performance differences be the primary deciding factor. Re: [flexcoders] WebOrb for Rails
I love how much buzz WebOrb is getting. Adobe is trying to keep the price of their java/flash remoting server high. Which is understandable. They need to make money on the product or we'll all be out of jobs. (Well I would be anyway.) But if Adobe were to aquire WebOrb how much do you think the .NET version would be? Would the ROR and PHP versions be GPL? Anyway licensing costs aside... Adobe is not making a .net version... as far as i know wondertwin (.netfds)was still born in 04'. I do however feel that Adobe is and has beenmaking an enourmous mistake by only supporting Java/CF. How do they expect to reach a million developers by only supporting Java/CF? Adobe needs to hold up WebOrb to the public and say... Look Flex/Flash/Apollo can support remote objects for multiple backends!!! WebOrb isn't even producing a Java remoting implementation to stay out of Adobe's space and allow them to capitalize on the Java market of the large corporations. RE: [flexcoders] Creating variable name dynamically
In your example, you store the ith TextInput instance as myArray[i][0] and the ith CheckBox instance as myArray[i][1]. So loop over i and check whether myArray[i][1].selected is true. The name of the local var chkCheckBox is completely irrelevant; this var doesn't even exist after the function createStuff() returns. - Gordon From: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com [mailto:flexcoders@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of kristian_wright2002 Sent: Wednesday, October 04, 2006 1:50 AM To: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com Subject: [flexcoders] Creating variable name dynamically I'm in a situation where I need to create a number of components at runtime, at different time intervals. I've tried using a repeater, but since the dataprovider is empty at the start of the app, it doesn't seem to update the repeater. Unless I'm using the repeater wrong... [flexcoders] Re: e4x with XMLListCollections?
Thanks for the reply. I'm wondering why I can't? According to the docs, myCollection.source gived an XMLList, and the XMLList docs say that This class (along with the XML, Namespace, and QName classes) implements powerful XML-handling standards defined in ECMAScript for XML (E4X) specification (ECMA-357 edition 2). I'm unfortunately in the process of trying to figure out how to use XML as a datasource (from a PHP page) and effectively use it to manage data throughout my Flex app. I thought the whole point of e4x was to NOT have to iterate through everything? Let me go about this a different way and see if anyone has a better idea for how to handle all of this information. I have XML coming down from php. The PHP is grabbing itfrom a relational database, where there is a table of trainingEvents (with unique keyID's) and a table of trainingEventInstances, which are many to 1 with the events. Some of the instances can override certain properties like price... catalog trainingEvent keyID=1 title=Programming 101 eventCost=499.99 trainingEventInstance keyID=1 location=Houston eventDate=02/11/2007 instanceCost=499.99 / trainingEventInstance keyID=2 location=Houston eventDate=04/19/2007 instanceCost=499.99 / trainingEventInstance keyID=3 location=Las Vegas eventDate=04/19/2007 instanceCost=299.99 / /trainingEvent trainingEvent keyID=2 title=Miter Saw Safety eventCost=300.00 trainingEventInstance keyID=4 location=Houston eventDate=12/25/2006 instanceCost=300.00 / /trainingEvent trainingEvent keyID=3 title=How to Fly The Shuttle eventCost=19.99 trainingEventInstance keyID=5 location=Florida eventDate=09/01/2007 instanceCost=1499.99 / trainingEventInstance keyID=6 location=Nevada eventDate=12/10/2006 instanceCost=499.99 / trainingEventInstance keyID=7 location=India eventDate=11/24/2006 instanceCost=19.99 / /trainingEvent /catalog I want to do the following things with it: 1. Display the structure in a tree, where there are trainingEvents at the topmost level, with their instances below them. (I'm doing this currently by putting the XML into an XMLListCollection and using it as the source for a tree, with label and icon functions. Works well). 2. Be able to drag and drop trainingEventInstances onto a Person (items in a listbox ) and have those trainingEventInstances assigned to them. 3. Show a datagrid of the titles, locations, and dates for any person's assignments. The problem I keep hitting is when I want to display the titles. The title is a property of the trainingEvent, not the trainingEventInstance... I could solve it by adding the title to the instances, but that seems like a lot like duplicating data to me. I would have assumed that I could, at any time, find the instance I need in the structure, go to its parent, and grab the title? The traverse all nodes method will work, but what when I have 1000 items in my catalog and the person is assigned to 100 of them. My label function in the datagrid would be going 100,000 loops to print the titles, which seems wrong. Can anyone tell me of a way to work with data coming from a relational database so that I can display relevant info as I need it? Thanks! -- TC --- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, Prakaz [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I'm not sure if you will be able to directly access the trainingEvent title using the return statement you have given below. [flexcoders] Datagrid header rollover
I have been trying to do this for quite some time now. I want to be able to take some action when the user rolls over the header in a datagrid. I tried using the itemRollOver event, however, the event.rowIndex property shows from row 1 onwards, not 0. It works fine for itemClick but not itemRollOver. Any idea how I can achieve this? I am also trying to change the background color for particular cells dynamically. It depends on whether the user clicked an image or no. The fact of the matter is that it's not an either/or situation. You should use both. Is it just me that thinks Adobe is doing fine just as they are? I think the real Flex breakthroughs will come as developers start releasing clever apps and people start saying "holy s**t". I happen to think that the developer support by Adobe (and Macromedia before them)is phenomenal. Flex will move forward quietly until it hits it's tipping point, then adoption will surge ahead. interesting... one of the issues brought up to me was how to get the nice cinematic feel w/ scripted animations, etc. in Flex. i was told that only simple looping animations were possible because we couldn't mix Flex running AS3 with scripted movies with AS2. maybe the new AS3 preview will solve that, since we could script animations using AS3 in regular Flash 8 Professional. am i totally off-base here in what i've been told? thanks, Kirk From: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Nick CollinsSent: Wednesday, October 04, 2006 1:58 PMTo: flexcoders@yahoogroups.comSubject: Re: [flexcoders] Re: Flex 2 limitations vs. raw Flash 8 Prof? RE: [flexcoders] Fill a Tree From a JAVA Class
Yeah, this is a fun one. I have done this, but its not as elegant as I was hoping, but it works. What I had to do was create a TreeNode class. Looks like this: Public class TreeNode { Private String label; Private String data; Private ArrayList children; Getters and setters. } The key here is the children property. The property to hold the nodes must be named children or the tree wont have any childNodes. There is probably better ways to do this, I.E. implementing the ITreeDataProvider interface on the AS class, but I couldnt get it to work properly, and havent had a chance to revisit it. Does your tree need to load dynamically (I.E. populate the children with another call to the database on the nodeOpen event) or will you be loading the whole tree at once? If you load dynamically, you will need to make sure you initialize the children property or that node wont be a folder. Re: [flexcoders] Flex Marketing
I agree Paul. But... It definitely helps sell the case of Flex when customers feel confident in the technology you're promoting. Keep in mind that the majority of Flex apps are internal in nature, for the Enterprise is where Flex excels. So you're not going to see the many holy s**t apps that already exist. E.g Jon Hirschi and Tom Ortega built an *AMAZING* application over at eBay... .easily could win the MAX best app award, but you'll never hear about it. I think what Clint and I are asking for is to notch it up a bit, vs "moving forward quietly..." Quiet makes it difficult to sell to a customer that their next Gen Application is rooted in a technology they never heard of. Meanwhile the AJAX bandwagon beats very loud, and many developers who want to take things to the next level will have AJAX on the forefront of their minds as it's 'brand' recognition is so dominant. Technologists gravitate towards what they think is the 'industry standard'. And it's not just about the mindshare of Developers that need to be focused on. It's more important to capture the minds of those who control the budget and cash flow. The Directors and VPs. All they keep hearing about is AJAX, so from a strategic point of view you want to go with what is perceived as mass adoption (so that the support system is there, and that there's a large talent pool to draw/recruit from). I personally want people to start believing that Flex is the industrial strength solution, vs some "niche" boutique technology. RE: [flexcoders] Wanted - Using Flex with my specific Database - Step by Step Tutorials
I agree entirely. Basic data access from flex is way too difficult. Actually, it is not difficult at all, it just seems so to many beginning Flex developers. You hit the nail on the head, noting the large number of server side platforms. It is worse even than that, though. Any single platform can have multiple approaches to the database access. The implementation can use different data structures and data types to represent the data, and can communicate with Flex using three (or more) protocols, and Flex can use several resultFormats. The number of options is staggering. And we are not even talking FDS or sockets. Or security. But that is not to say we cant do something. Often the beginners cry is I just need to get my data into Flex! and they would be ecstatic to have a simple working HelloData example. These developers do not have DBAs, SAs, teams of Java developers at their disposal, but have to do it all themselves. Adobe cannot do this. We, the community, have to take the initiative. There are some examples out there. Tim Hoffs DOT.NET example, for one. I am working on a DOT.NET file system access example. Christophes MySQL example. Im sure there are more So create a SIMPLE example, document it, and post it somewhere, like CFLEX.net. If not me, who? [flexcoders] Re: Can I force a redraw of my dataGrid?
I don't think you can add metadata like the bindable property at runtime, it has to be declared/defined in a class. Using the binding utils is a way to compensate for not having declared bindable properties. Personally I prefer to use VO's and bindable properties, overall a much cleaner solution than generic objects and the binding utils. Derrick Grigg - www.dgrigg.com --- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, livinginswitzerland [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Derrick, Thanks again, and once again, you have led me to another question. Thanks, --- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, Sreejith Unnikrishnan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Let me try and put it as simple as possible. Every request you make to a data server will require the data provider to provide explicit permission to access their data. This is done using a crossdomain.xml file that resides in the root of the data server. For example, the following is the URL to access the MXNA feed. http://weblogs.macromedia.com/mxna/xml/rss.cfm?query=byCategorylanguages=1categoryId=5 How can you check of you can access the data from this feed? Type in http://weblogs.macromedia.com/crossdomain.xml The result would be as below: cross-domain-policy allow-access-from domain=*/ /cross-domain-policy Note that the allow-access-from-domain is specified as *. This means anybody can access it. Now, lets look at another example. The following is the RSS feed for CNN Money Economy http://rss.cnn.com/rss/money_news_economy.rss Now, if you access http://rss.cnn.com/crossdomain.xml, you will find a list of URLs. ONLY these URLs can access data from that particular feed. In your case, type in http://www.wopos.com/crossdomain.xml. I see the result in Chinese(?), but I could see that the no crossdomain.xml policy file exists on the server. This means you do not have explicit permission to access that webService. So, for 2 reasons you would get the 'Security error accessing url' error. 1. No crossdomain.xml policy file exists on the data server. 2. The crossdomain.xml does not permit you to access that data. I hope my understanding is correct and it clears your confusion. Regards Sree - Original Message - From: flexava To: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, July 20, 2006 3:56 PM Subject: [flexcoders] Confusion about 'Security error accessing url' I'm using flex builder to create a small flex project to learn how to call web service in flex, but I encountered a problem really confusing me.I created a new file called wstest.mxml and here's its content: ?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8? mx:Application xmlns:mx=http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml; layout=vertical mx:Script ![CDATA[ import mx.controls.Alert; import mx.rpc.Fault; import mx.rpc.events.FaultEvent; private function onFault(event : FaultEvent) : void { var f : Fault = event.fault; Alert.show (f.faultString,Error); } private function list() : void { adminService.getWeather.send(); } ]] /mx:Script mx:WebService id=adminService service=Weather port=WeatherSoap wsdl=http://www.wopos.com/webservice/weather.asmx? wsdl showBusyCursor=true fault=onFault(event) mx:operation name=getWeather mx:request mCity ÉϺ£ /mCity /mx:request /mx:operation /mx:WebService mx:Label id=lbl text={adminService.getWeather.lastResult}/ mx:Button label=Call Web Service click=list()/ /mx:Application After building finished,I ran the generated wstest.swf in the directory called bin,the output directory of the flex project, everything is ok.But when I put the swf file in another position, say, c:/. Then when I ran the swf file an error message was returned saying 'Security error accessing url'. I can't understand why this happened. It seems the swf file can only run under the bin directory. Any one can help? My question is whether or not the location of the AS file has to match the location of a CFC file for the namespace path for AS Classes and CF CFC types. In other words you can not pass a Function through remoting, i think :) Regards, Bjorn Schultheiss Senior Flash Developer QDC Technologies From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]ups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]ups.com] On Behalf Of Brendan MeutznerSent: Wednesday, 4 October 2006 9:39 AMTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]ups.comSubject: [flexcoders] does the CFC/AS namespace path have to match? [flexcoders] Re: Architecting a large, modular Flex application
Thanks for your comments Igor, as much as I would like to go to Vegas it just a little too far away. :) Unfortualtely waiting a month to see the results of the discussion at MAX is just a little too far away also, If anyone could expand/explain Erics orignial comment I would be really thanks full. For more adition, you could also develop large number of software and re-usable code for nexts, simple using like. CVS server - belive me, it's very useful not for team development but for better organization MVC arquiteture - Flex also develop based on this point of view. Commentary - Coding everyone does, but commented code and well organized it's just 10% of people do. While you have in hands commented code you can use ASDoc to generete automaticly document for your code. SWC format - it's pretty nuthy to use it, but not recommended due to if you have large scale of undocummented code it's conditiional of this uses. For better praticies I've also advice you to attend at MAX this year, they are really point out to this way. Regards. We have an application file that contains all basic application code. This application is compiled with the option -link-report=linkreport.xml. All separate modules are compiled with the option -load-externs, this option allows you to have the required classes in your classpath for type checking, but leaves all available classes out (the ones in the basic application).
