Re: [Flexradio] anybody using a sdr with Writelog
I use a virtual com port to connect PowerSDR with Writelog. This saves having to use any real com ports. The only hitch I had was that Writelog only has four serial port options, and the default vCom setup used higher numbered ports. I fixed that by changing the port number assignments in the vCom setup utility. Another approach would be to edit the Writelog ini file. In my Writelog setup PowerSDR is my second (Right) radio. I have a 950SDX set up as Left. This works great. 73 de Ed W2RF --- N8VB's vCom support can be downloaded from the Flex site at http://support.flex-radio.com/Downloads.aspx?id=56 ___ FlexRadio mailing list FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archive Link: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ FlexRadio Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ FlexRadio Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/
[Flexradio] Problem installing vCOM and VAC
I am having a problem installing N8VB vCOM and VAC4.04. I am following the instructions from KM0T. I install vCOM and VAC without any problem. When I go into Setup of PowerSDR the system crashes and I get a form of blue screen of death telling me amongst other things that: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL I have tried various combinations of pairs of ports but same outcome. E.G. I used the pairs 14/24 and 15/25 to make sure I wasn't clashing with any others. I suspect that the problem relates to other software clashes. I am using the USB-Parallel adaptor with the SDR 1000 and also a USB to serial converter to COM 5 (for a GPS receiver) and a USB to serial converter to COM 6 (for PTT with WSJT) Computer is a Dell Dimension E521 with Duo core and 2Gb memory. As usual with computer problems, I am presuming it is my stupidity, but would value help and advice. 73 David, G4YTL ___ FlexRadio mailing list FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archive Link: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ FlexRadio Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ FlexRadio Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/
[Flexradio] Interesting noise
Folks, I have seen some unusual noises on the panadapter again this morning and wondered if anyone else has seen this. I've seen this before, usually in the morning, as I recall. I'm just wondering if they are a local noise (either in the shack or nearby) or if other people have seen them. Here's a description: Noise floor (today at about -120) drops a couple of DB's A blob of noise comes up from the floor and spreads symmetrically, sometimes dissipating as it goes, other times stopping at a certain width and hanging there for a few seconds. This process takes a few seconds. The pattern recurs in intervals of 10 to 20 seconds for a half-dozen repetitions then stops for an indeterminate period before coming back. It can go on for some time, but eventually subsides. I've got a couple of AVI movies of a portion of the panadapter when this is happening and an I/Q recording of the phenomenon if anyone would like to see it. Anyway, just interested to know if anyone else has seen this interesting noise pattern and thoughts on what it is. [Flexradio] K1EL w/ SDR-1000
I wired a transistor and a resistor or 2, and a 1/8 jack onto the 9 pin plug that plugs into the serial port. I think I used a PNP (like a 2n3906) or a FET (like a MP102) but I can't remember. I used some of the voltages on the serial plug to power the buffer. What ever I did was the obvious thing to do, it wasn't fancy or cleaver. If I get the chance I will pull it apart and give a clearer description, but it would probably take less time just experimenting with what you have on the bench than that waiting for that. One thing I found, is using a usb winkey, a usb serial port, and the flex usb to parallel converter, I lost the ability to send code without errors. There was too much traffic on the USB line that was temporally related and some things got out of sequence. It took me a while to figure it out since I had just purchased a new paddle and I figured it was my lousy set up on the paddle (though it was a Begali and those are like impossible to set up incorrectly). I did not have the problem if I used a standard serial port or if I used the CW jack on the back of the radio. 73 W9OY TV dinner still cooling? Check out Tonight's Picks on Yahoo! Frank .. all crystals change frequency with age. The change should be less and less with time and in the same direction, until it settles down. I would say that what you are seeing is quite normal. Bob, Diversity tuning requires a second receiver that the SDR1K does not have. The SDR1K does have dual watch capability within the pass band of the soundcard. Re: [Flexradio] Interesting noise
Perhaps it's some kind of local noise. I've swept the shack with a loop looking for that pattern and I haven't seen it. When I disconnect the antenna it goes away. Perhaps it's from a neighbor or power lines or some such. I've seen this happen maybe a half dozen times in the last couple of years. It doesn't look like a switching supply signature, but maybe it's one that malfunctions once in a while to create this signal. Mai 2007 14:03 An: 'flexradio' Betreff: [Flexradio] Interesting noise Folks, I have seen some unusual noises on the panadapter again this morning and wondered if anyone else has seen this. Re: [Flexradio] SDR-1000
The demo is based on older code and that feature is not there. It is called Sub RX (soon to be called MultiRX). If you have a supported soundcard (or an unsupported one with ASIO4ALL drivers), you can use the 1.8.0 version of PowerSDR rather than the demo to use the feature. It works great. -Tim -Original Message- From: AD5VJ Bob [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, May 28, 2007 6:10 PM To: Tim Ellison; flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: RE: [Flexradio] SDR-1000 Ok on the dual watch. The SDR1K does have dual watch capability within the pass band of the soundcard. You get ~180 KHz of bandwidth using the 192 KHz sampling rate. Like Bob, W6TR said, do yourself a favor and get the FA-66 sound card. It has a higher dynamic range and a faster sampling rate. -Tim -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of AD5VJ Bob Sent: Monday, May 28, 2007 4:53 PM To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: [Flexradio] SDR-1000 I am thinking of trading my IC-775DSP for an SDR-1000 with 100 watt pa, ldg built in tuner, delta 44 sound card and break out box, all cables and usb adapter cable, original user manual, Shuttle PRO Controller However, I do not see dual watch or anything but split on the demo that I downloaded to test it with. At 02:06 PM 5/28/2007, Bob Maser wrote: Mine started in the -150 range and 6 months later, is -2680 and continuing lower. Maybe this is Flex's way to make money in the after market selling replacement crystal oscillators. Surely you jest. Actually, the beauty of the SDR1000 is that you don't much care what the frequency is, because aging can be compensated in software (as you've noted). All crystal oscillators have tradeoffs among aging, spectral purity, and temperature stability. The ability to compensate the change in software means you can spec an oscillator with outstanding spectral purity (low phase noise), and not have to pay an arm and a leg to try and solve it in hardware (ovens, careful selection of capacitor tempcos, etc.) You can always buy a Bliley OCXO for $400. You can do it for less money ($200-250 for a Streamline OCXO from Wenzel, for instance, $50 for used HP10811s, less if you pull them out of dead test equipment), but even that OCXO has a trimmer adjust to compensate for aging. On modern test equipment, that's probably one of the few adjustments that needs to get made (and, for modern equipment, it's a software adjustment, just like the SDR1000)) Heck, you can build your own little oven for the Vectron part on the SDR1000 board (that's essentially what the thermistor mod is). Part of the expense, though, is that the mfr has already run the crystal for a while to get past the really steep part of the aging curve, and that costs money. Essentially, you're buying an oscillator that already has 1000 or more hours on it.
