[Flexradio] USB to Parallel Adapter
Hi, I tried to change USB ports, and now I can't get the adapter to run at all. Windows and PowerSDR cannot find it. I tried reloading the driver(ezusb.sys), the windows hardware wizard, built a new data base, nothing works. Any ideas? Sony Laptop, XP Home, PowerSDR all versions and SVNs, SDR-1000. [Flexradio] Heil Hedset
OK, I'm stuck. I have a Heil ProSet (IC) headset and purchased their Yaesu 8 pin connector and push to talk pedal. Hooked everything up and nadda. I think I've done it the way the 5000A manual says to and followed the start-up instructions. I thought the Yaesu connector was pin for pin compatible with the 8 pin jack on the 5000A when rigged to the Proset ; is that correct? I also thought the ProSet would work- perhaps not. [Flexradio] Heil ProSet
I currently ONLY use a Heil Proset, with the 'DX' cartridge. I have the Heil Yaesu adapter (RED) It works perfectly with the F5Ka. I even feed the Proset 'THROUGH' my MFJ DVK for recording contest buffers. Output of the DVK plugs into the F5Ka directly. Full VOX or PTT operation, good audio reports 'straight through' of from DVK buffers. - Dream as if you'll live forever. Re: [Flexradio] Heil Hedset
Richard, I could be wrong on this, but my understanding is that the Proset (IC) is specifically designed to work with Icom radios, and as such uses an electret type mike cartridge that requires a small (8v) DC voltage to operate. In checking the heil website, there is a note that the Flex radios will work fine with the Yaesu connector, but not the IC type microphones. See http://www.heilsound.com/amateur/adapters/index.htm You may need to swap the ProSet for a non-IC version for things to work for you. If someone else out there has successfully used a ProSet (IC) with their Flex radio, now would be a great time to speak up. 73, Army - AE5P -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Richard Stouffer Sent: Wednesday, October 31, 2007 7:10 AM To: FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz Subject: [Flexradio] Heil Hedset OK, I'm stuck. Re: [Flexradio] Heil Hedset
Army hit it right on the button. According to the Heil website, the ProSet iC has a condenser (or electret) element for use on Icom radios which use condenser microphones. A condenser microphone requires a DC bias voltage to function. The Icom rigs use a phantom power supply scheme which feeds the DC bias up the wire bringing the audio from the mic. The Flex-5000 does not provide this DC bias voltage. I am using a ProSet Plus (not iC) with my SDR-1000 with no problems plan to use it with my Flex-5000 when it arrives. If you swap your ProSet iC for a standard version, you might find the following information useful: The only problem I had connecting my ProSet Plus to the SDR-1000 was the fact that the Heil Yaesu adapter cable was not wired the way it should have been. The Yaesu mic pinout that Flex follows is: Pin 5 -- PTT Return Pin 6 -- PTT Pin 7 -- Mic Ground (Shield) Pin 8 -- Mic The problem arises from the fact that pins 5 7 are tied together inside the Yaesu radio while they are not in the SDR-1000 or Flex-5000. Heil decided to cut costs in the adapter cable by connecting Mic Ground PTT Return together, both connected to Pin 7, leaving Pin 5 unconnected. You have to connect PTT to the SDR-1000 via the X2 connector or to the Flex-5000 via the PTT jack. Alternatively, you could jumper pins 5 7 together in the Heil adapter cable. 73, Ray, K9DUR ___ FlexRadio mailing list FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archive Link: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ FlexRadio Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ FlexRadio Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/

Richard wrote, Ray I mentioned the issue you talk about here to the lady I ordered the connector assembly from, I think it was Mrs. Heil, and she said that has been taken care of. I don't remember what she said they did, but she was pretty sure of herself on that issue. I had purchased my AD-1Y adapter cables 3 or 4 years ago when I bought my ProSet Plus for use with my FT-100. They may very well have corrected the wiring in the adapter cable since then. Thanks for the info. 73, Ray, K9DUR ___ FlexRadio mailing list FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archive Link: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ FlexRadio Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ FlexRadio Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/
Re: [Flexradio] Heil Hedset
I've been using the Pro-Set Plus here, and it works very well. I built a simple adapter cable with an 8-pin mic connector on one end that plugs into the FLEX-5000A microphone connector on the front panel, and the other end of the cable has an inline 1/8 monaural phone jack to accept the plug from the Pro-Set Plus. PTT is accomplished via a foot switch plugged into the PTT RCA jack on the rear panel of the radio. The headphone part of the Pro-Set Plus plugs into the F5K front panel Phones jack via a 1/8 to 1/4 adapter. I really appreciate the I/O versatility of the FLEX-5000A; it's nice to have multiple ways to interface to the radio. 73, Dale WA8SRA Ray Andrews, K9DUR wrote: Army hit it right on the button. If the adapter works in one port and not another, it is probably just a driver issue. [Flexradio] Spontaneous disconnects -- Solved (I think)
I replaced the brand-name Adaptec FireConnect 4300 card with Agere chip (as recommended by Flex people) by an el-cheapo, no-name FireWire card with VIA chip (criticized by Flex people as being inferior) from the local independent computer store and so far have experienced no spontaneous disconnects in several hours of jumping around from one band to another Google turned up many complaints about this particular Adaptec card (which has appeared in at least three versions -- but same model no. -- using different chips) from people who had found it unsatisfactory for capturing digital video from their camcorders. I'd have bought a PCI-Express card if they'd had one. They had PCI-Express USB cards but no PCI-Express FireWire. Otherwise the receive level calibration will be off by 6-8 dB. It would appear that in spite of calibrating against the receive value it subsequently uses the transmit buffer value on each successive re-start. It's CW oriented and about using MixW to get good CW. This inhibited any desire to make CW work from N1MM 10384 may be obsolete now that PowerSDR has a good built in keyer. It would be great to hear from some experienced N1MM-Flexeradio v1.10.x flexers. Goodness would be seeing a current how to mail. 73's Rob AB7CF ;o)~ ___ FlexRadio mailing list FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archive Link: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ FlexRadio Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ FlexRadio Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/

Your best bet is to login as a user with limited rights and run PowerSDR in the administrator context using the runas command. Re: [Flexradio] USB to Parallel Adapter
I also found that if you go to CONTROL PANEL SYSTEM HARDWARE DEVICE MANAGER then right click, instead of reloading driver, just disable the device, then enable and it will come back to life. This works for me in XP. Joe In a message dated 10/31/2007 9:55:56 A.M. Eastern Standard Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: If the adapter works in one port and not another, it is probably just a driver issue. Re: [Flexradio] Heil Hedset
I will pretend I know what I'm talking about, but if you ask me too many questions you'll expose my ignorance. So here goes: I asked the guy at Heil about the Yeasu 8 pin cable assembly and he said it was changed about 4 or 5 months ago. The grounds are now separate and they will work on the Flex right out of the box. I did order the non IC headset and when I get it I should be able to verify what Heil told me. Regards, Richard, WU5K -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Ray Andrews, K9DUR Sent: Wednesday, October 31, 2007 8:04 AM To: FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz Subject: Re: [Flexradio] Heil Hedset Army hit it right on the button. 73, Ray, K9DUR ___ FlexRadio mailing list FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archive Link: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ FlexRadio Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ FlexRadio Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/ ___ FlexRadio mailing list FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archive Link: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ FlexRadio Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ FlexRadio Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/

[Flexradio] Loss of receive with preserved transmit
On a few occasions, while operating cw, I have noted that the receiver suddenly goes quiet while the transmitter continues to work fine. It happened today. I pushed Stop and Start on PowerSDR without effect. I then shutdown PowerSDR and power cycled the Flex-5000a. When I restarted PowerSDR, the receiver was back and I was able to complete my QSO with Bert, W5ZR. He told me that when I reported my receiver as non-functioning, the transmitted signal was fine (which was also evident by watching my inline Palstar directional RF wattmeter). I have screen shots on my website which might help out: http://ae7i.com/Flex-5000a.html. When I lost receiver, the Panadapter baseline fell below the current window threshold with a few spikes present, but I couldn't hear any signals and switching the antenna in/out didn't change the receiver's minimal baseline noise. Otherwise the receive level calibration will be off by 6-8 dB. Re: [Flexradio] Feedback requested
John The thought of having a second receiver board is certainly enticing and in fact, I had planned to purchase one. I have the highest respect for Flex products but for the sake of providing honest feedback, I would just like to say the following. When I inquired about the price at the CSVHFS conference this summer, a ball park figure of roughly half of the price mentioned in this e-mail was estimated. In my opinion it was reasonable, however the price range stated in this e-mail has definitely caused me to rethink whether I can justify spending 25% of what I paid for the entire radio on the second receiver. To me this is disappointing as I had planned to purchase every conceivable accessory as they became available. In my case, the upcoming internal 2 meter transverter will be a priority and if I remember correctly, a pleasingly reasonable estimated price in the mid $200 range was mentioned for it. Now I am wondering if that will also be priced beyond what can be justified. Please dont get me wrong, I love the cutting edge products you are producing and have been wrestling with my conscience about whether or not to send this e-mail, but Im sure you want an honest opinion from your customers. Perhaps there are others that feel this way and havent spoken up.
