StarTech has a 1394 card Product ID PC1394MP which uses a TI Chipset and I have
used it successfully with a Flex-3000 on Win 7.

We have had issues with VIA chipsets where in Win7 you have to revert
the system 1394 driver back to the legacy (Vista) version to get the
radio to work adequately. I highly recommend using a TI chipset

Re: [Flexradio] XVTR Form Question

2014-07-21 Thread Ronald G. Parsons
Eric,

Some experimentation seems to confirm our conjecture. I appears that it is only
VFO A that is checked, so I’ll have to use VFO A as the TX VFO on the
Flex-1500, but that is not a problem as that is the configuration used with my
full-duplex sat system where a Flex-3000 is used as the receiver.

The half-duplex V/V and U/U configuration using the Flex-1500 as both TX and RX
will easily accommodate that configuration.

Ron,

I believe that the bands are scanned top to bottom and it is just looking for a
match for "more than begin" and "less than end". So yes, I think what you are
proposed should work.

On the RX Gain, this field is only to adjust the Panadapter and Meter readings
so they will be more accurate when you have a device with significant gain/loss
inline. Changing the value should not affect the audio samples at all.

On a FLEX-6300 and SmartSDR 1.2.1 and DAX, I have configured a number of

Is this a feature, bug or a configuration error. MON works properly on voice

It is best to uninstall PSDRDT before installing the update. If you do not,
an entry is left in the Programs and Features Control Panel (at least in Win
7) for the old version. Then if you uninstall the old one, it deletes the
new program, leaving the new entry in Programs and Features

Re: [Flexradio] SDRDataTransfer No Longer Available

2013-12-17 Thread Ronald G. Parsons
Just swallowing a huge serving of Humble Pie

I fixed up 2.6.4 so it would work with the new FireWire driver and loaded PSDR
2.6.4 on both Flex-1500 and Flex –3000. I could have sworn that I had adjusted
the EQ on the 1500 (in fact I’m sure I did) but now the EQ on 2.6.4 on the 1500
on my new transmit profiles is flat. Can’t explain.

So ... there seem to be NO transfer problems from 2.6.4 to 2.7.2 at this site.

I followed Dave’s lead and did the uninstalls and installs. Then ran PSDRDT
going directly from 2.6.4 to 2.7.2. During the beta, I had transferred 2.6.4 to
2.7.0 to 2.7.1 to 2.7.2.

This time all went well EXCEPT the EQ on the Flex 1500 on the new 2.7.2 was
flat. I would swear that the EQ on the 1500 on 2.6.4 was not flat as I had just
created the new transmit profiles on both the 1500 and 3000 and they all were
not flat. I could be wrong, but I don’t think so. The transferred EQ on the
3000 was not flat.

And again, as I had reported before, on the 1500, when I first changed the
transmit profile, the MIC gain was incorrect. This corrected itself and a later
load of the transmit profile.

No error messages appeared.

I just checked mine and noticed the same thing -- three instances of PSDRDT
and three instances of PSDR corresponding to the beta installs and 2.7.2.
The date on the .exe file for PSDRDT was 12/12 which did not correspond to
any of the beta install dates but was probably Ray's last compile.

I think Ray should check to see if a prior instance of PSDRDT exists when a
new one is installed and remove the old one (or at least ask the person
installing).

However this arrangement did not cause me an error as far as I know, but I
think I'll follow Dave's lead and uninstall and reinstall just to make sure.

Went to uninstall PSDRDT and found I had three instances in the programs and

Uninstalled PSDR 2.7.2
Uninstalled SDRDataTransfer (Ray's version)

Did the conversion from 2.6.4 to 2.7.2 (worked fine)
Tried another conversion during the same session , worked now

Reopen PSDR DT and conversions worked.

[Flexradio] Using two Flex computers with DDUtil_V3

2013-11-03 Thread Ronald G. Parsons
I think what I am trying to do is not possible because DDUtil can connect to
only one Flex Legacy computer and only one instance of DDUtil can be running.

I am using a FLEX-1500 as the transmitter and a FLEX-3000 as the receiver in a
full-duplex amateur satellite system. See The AMSAT Journal, July-August 2013.

I use DDUtil to connect the FLEX-3000 to the DDUtil Legacy CAT. And I connect
SatPC32 Radio 1 for frequency control through RCP1 and to connect DXLabs
Commander Primary CAT VFO A through RCP2.

The FLEX-1500 connects to SatPC32 Radio 2 for frequency control directly
through a virtual serial port.

I would like to connect the FLEX-1500 to both SatPC32 Radio 2 for frequency
control and to DXLabs Commander Secondary CAT VFO B. If I could run two
instances of DDUtil then I could do it.

Is there a work-around for this scheme?

[Flexradio] Starting PowerSDR with multiple FLEX radios

Is there any command line parameter for PowerSDR.exe, or other method, that
will set the Chooser parameter and OK a second instance of PowerSDR and bypass

Re: [Flexradio] [K9DUR_Software] AppControlPanel v1.0.0 Released

2013-08-28 Thread Ronald G. Parsons
Ray,

I routinely run both a FLEX-1500 and a FLEX-3000 simultaneously. I start the
1500 first and must answer the FLEX chooser to choose the 1500. Then I start
the 3000 and first get a dialog to verify I want to run two instances of PSDR
and then I must answer the chooser to choose to 3000.

How should this be handled in AppControlPanel?

Similarly how do I start DXLabs Commander and DXKeeper from the DXLauncher to
choose these two programs?

AppControlPanel v1.0.0 has been released and is available for download from
my website.

Now that I am routinely switching operations between my FLEX-5000A and my
new 6700, I felt the need for a simple way to start/stop various programs
easily. So, I came up with this small utility called AppControlPanel. It
provides 20 buttons that you can customize to start and/or stop 20 different
programs. A "program" can also be a VB Script file or a batch file. By
using a script file, I can start my radio, DDUtil, logging program, and
other auxiliary programs with a single mouse click.

You can also set conditions where a program will not start if certain other
programs are either running or not running.

I hope you find this utility as useful as I have.

Hi All,
   I have a Flex 5K (Flex reference :>) And am considering a
Mitsubishi Mini Split AC system for the house. These units use inverters to
drive the fans and compressor. These units are small, quiet and reasonably
efficient, but I'm VERY concerned about the inverters producing RFI in the
HF bands.
Anyone have one of these systems? Any problems with RFI, and if
so, what was done to fix it?

Re: [Flexradio] Creating a startup script

2013-06-17 Thread Ronald G. Parsons
Thanks to all that replied. I ended up using a free program “Pulover’s Macro
Creator.”
http://www.autohotkey.net/~Pulover/

In its simplest form, it records your mouse motion and mouse clicks and creates
a macro. Very simple, quick and easy to do. No “programming.” It even moved the
SatPC32 window from one display to another. Sometimes the mouse pointer, while
executing the script, seems to be on the wrong display, but it does the right
thing. I also created a macro to shut all the programs down, even clicking on a
PowerSDR band button to correctly exit the UCB interface.

It works with AutoHotKey and the Pulover script can be exported to AutoHotKey
Script format. Error checking could then be added. Well worth every penny I
paid.

There must be a script for this!

When I start up my Flex system, I have to start a bunch of programs and most
require clicking on an option. For example:

Double-click DDUtil shortcut on desktop
Double-click PowerSDR shortcut on desktop
Click “Use” the FLEX-1500 on the Flex chooser
Double-click PowerSDR shortcut on desktop
Click “Yes” to start a second instance of PowerSDR
Click “Use” the FLEX-3000 on the Flex chooser
Double-click SatPC32 shortcut on desktop
Move the SatPC32 window to the second monitor
Double-click DXLabs Launcher shortcut on desktop
Click “cmd” and “dsk” on the Launcher window

And a similar sequence to shut everything down.

Is there a way to create a script to do this, perhaps by watching me do this.

I have to agree with Ken. The new boxes from Flex are indeed impressive,
but way out of my price range.

Personally, I'd prefer to see an SDR for VHF-UHF operation that offers
operation on 2 Meters, 222, 432, 902, and possibly 1296. If it would
serve the needs of weak signal operators, FM, and satellite users, then
someone would sell a ton of them.

Because the FLEX-1500 does not have the circuitry to read SWR, the program

[Flexradio] UCB and FlexWire interface from k3tuf

2012-12-25 Thread Ronald G. Parsons
Our family had our Christmas get-together on Sunday, so today it’s just me and
my Flex.

I am trying to implement the FlexWire interface from K3TUF on my FLEX-3000.

For initial testing, I have two entries enabled in the XVTR form, one for UCB
addr 0 (UCB0) and one for UCB addr 1 (UCB1).

In the UCB form (Ctrl-Alt U), I have two boxes checked – Line 0/Relay 1 and
Line 1/Relay 2.

On the FlexWire board, I connected the 5V pin, through a 1k resistor, to an
LED, to a test lead. When I touch the test lead to the ground pin, the LED
lights as expected.

But no matter which VHF+ button from XVTR form is selected in the VHF+ Band
Selection, the LED does not light on any of the 16 output pins of the FlexWire
board.

I have a couple questions:

1. What is the purpose of the FlexWire button on the UCB form? I assume it
should be active (Yellow).

2. What is the purpose of the 16 radio buttons (Line 0 – Line 15) on the UCB
form?

3. Is there any start-up sequence to activate the UCB after starting PowerSDR
2.5.3?

4. What am I missing?

Re: [Flexradio] VU5K Question

2012-12-18 Thread Ronald G. Parsons
While not specifically applicable to the FLEX-5000 question, a write up of mine
was just posted on the Flex KC
“A Full-Duplex VHF-UHF Satellite System using FLEX radios”
http://kc.flexradio.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50507.aspx

This article deals with using two FLEX units, the 1500 and 3000, but most of it
is applicable to the 5000 with the two receiver option.

With respect to the bandwidth of the DEMI 432 transverters, they informed me
that “The RF range of the transverter is about 430-440 MHz.” For the FLEX-5000
with PowerSDR v2.4.4, the high end filter switch point is 32 MHz.

If the DEMI 432-28 transverter is equipped with the Apollo LO synthesizer
option, the LO can easily be set as high as 409 MHz, giving 432 MHz –> 23 MHz,
435 –> 27, 440 –> 31, etc. By bringing a few wires outside the enclosure, the
LO can be changed easily. The Apollo LO synthesizer is locked to an external 10
MHz source and the FLEX-5000 also has this option. The Apollo LO has options
for LO = 402-409 MHz in 1 MHz steps.

It may be possible for DEMI to provide a transverter that would cover the
440-450 MHz range.

That question prompted me to look at the transverter port(s) and

Unfortunately, no wide-range transverters exist, or if they do they're
hiding from me. I've considered modifying one of my vintage Yaesu units,
(which are segment-switched to cover the entirety of 2 meters at least)
but the local oscillators in those are impossible to net in close enough
for today's expectations.

So - yes, it remains a good question.

[Flexradio] FLEX-1500 XVTR drive level

[Flexradio] Changing TX frequency while transmitting on FLEX-1500

2012-11-05 Thread Ronald G. Parsons
While testing my FLEX-1500 driving a DEMI L432-28HP transverter on CW, I
noticed the transmit frequency did not change while transmitting, even though
VFO A was being changed through CAT commands. PowerSDR v2.4.4 was being
controlled by SatPC32 via CAT and the frequency was changing due to changing
Doppler shift of a amateur satellite. The FLEX-1500 was driving a 432 MHz
transverter using the XVTR table in PowerSDR.

As long as the key was down, the frequency transmitted did not change even
though VFO A changed. If the transmitter was un-keyed momentarily, the
transmitted frequency changed to the new VFO A frequency, but held steady as
long as the key was held down even though VFO A continued to change.

Am I missing something that is keeping the frequency from changing?

[Flexradio] 10 MHz input to FLEX-1500

2012-11-04 Thread Ronald G. Parsons
I hooked up a 10 MHz source to my FLEX-1500 and my two
DEMI transverters (L144-28HP and L432-28HP). I heard satellite
stations on both FO-29 and VO-52. But when I tried
transmitting, I got no drive from the FLEX. After a lot of fiddling around.
I noticed that if I used an 18" BNC jumper connected with a barrel to a 36"
BNC jumper, the FLEX produced output, but with either jumper alone, I got
nothing. Why?

I have the 10 MHz source (Trimble Thunderbolt) connected to a DEMI 10-4
amplifier/filter/4-way splitter. Without the DEMI splitter, I get drive from
the FLEX. But with the splitter, I needed the two cables in series. Do you
suppose I
am getting too much 10 MHz signal from the splitter for the FLEX-1500?
And the extra cable length gave me some attenuation?

Is the drive level of the 10 MHz signal to the FLEX-1500 critical?

Re: [Flexradio] Antenna form data not saved

I found the wording of the explanation for Lock confusing.

"Lock: Check to lock the antenna selections for Receive to Transmit. Any

one will be followed by the other."

In my words, the Lock explanation is:

"Lock: Check to lock the antenna selection for Receive to be the same as the
Transmit selection. Any change you make in

one will be followed by the other."

Given that, the program performs as documented.

But after I Stop PSDR and close PSDR, launch PSDR again and click
Start, the Receive antenna form has reverted to XVTX/COM.

Is this a bug?

Whenever PowerSDR starts doing odd things with saved data it ALWAYS
suggests

that the database has become corrupted. The answer is to revert to factory
default and re-enter the settings to see if this fixes the problem.

[Flexradio] Using FLEX-3000 above 30 MHz with transverter

2012-08-12 Thread Ronald G. Parsons
I got the following from “tekboy” at DEMI.

“No problem with the transverter operating in the satellite range. You just
need to decide how you want to do it. The RF range of the transverter is about
430-440 MHz. The problem, since it is a converter, is the IF frequency range.
So simply, if you have a transceiver or receiver that will operate above 30
MHz, just dial it up! Many are doing this with the Flex Radios. 436 Mhz would
equal 32 Mhz in the IF range.”

Can the FLEX-3000/PSDR be “adjusted” to function as a transceiver (receive and
transmit) in the 28-38 MHz range to drive a transverter in the 430-440 MHz
range with the IF in the 28-38 MHz range?

Call me frugal. I bought a Microwave Modules 70cm transverter for $80 at
the local hamfest and a 2M Janel Laboratories downconverter for $2, yes,
two dollars. They both work fine with my Flex-5000A . I operate the mode
B satellites with them and my Flex-5000. I do have GASFET preamps in
front of both of them. They perform frequency tracking with SatPC32. The
PowerSDR XVTRs setup panel handles the frequency translation math. I
also had a chance to buy a 2M Microwave Modules transverter for $150,
but I passed. I regret that and should have bought it. The point is, the
Flex-5000 is an excellent satellite radio with external transceiver
modules. I also have a FT-736R that I operated satellite for years with,
and I prefer the Flex-5000 with the transverter/converter setup.

Being able to see the whole satellite passband, call CQ, monitor your CQ
frequency and look for other signals in the downlink passband at the
same time is really slick. Consider the transverter route to get on
satellites if the VU5K operation isn't viable.

wondering if future versions of PowerSDR will continue to support the
module.

Additionally, there are a few things about the present software that are
not fully integrated with the VU5K module, such as showing that it is
connected to Antenna 1 for TX when it is on its own independent antenna.
Also, an antenna software bypass loop for the VU5K module would allow
the use of a preamplifier to be used with the VU5K. Is that possible or
does it need separate relays?

Hi All,

I had my first chance to play radio today since upgrading to the new
release. I noticed on the F3K ATU form a box labeled [Auto Mode]. So I
checked the box and pressed the ATU button to get things going. I made a
couple of band changes and heard some clicking in the radio each time and
thought cool. My F3K ATU now works like the ATU in a "legacy" radio. This
function seems to work on all bands for me except 12m. Every time I select
12m the ATU goes into bypass which I wasn't surprised since my loop is flat
on 12m. But when I changed to a band with a know higher SWR it stays in
bypass until I press the ATU button. Now I've not tried doing a database
reset, or transmitting to see if that causing it to perform a tune. I
thought would ask the question here first to see what others have
experienced. I also don't remember seeing anything about this in the
release notes.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that the location and hoops you have
to jump through to get to this file is a bit too much?
Having to set your system to show hidden files to get there just is off
putting and the actual directory is buried pretty deep.
It should not be this hard to access that file to make a copy of it. Yes I
know there is WAVE widget in in PowerSDR but it doesn't copy the file so it
can be emailed off and that is what I want to do.

My two cents .

[Flexradio] Remote operation of PSDR from an iPad 2 using Skype for iPad

2011-08-03 Thread Ronald G. Parsons
Recently, KS4JU published an article in Ham Radio Science entitled “Using the
iPad to Control Your Rig”
http://www.hamradioscience.com/2011/05/using-the-ipad-to-control-your-rig/

Unfortunately, at that time, there was no easy way to get two-way audio to work
using Skype as it was not multi-tasking friendly and AirDisplay on the iPad
supported only audio coming from PSDR – there is no microphone input. I got
around this by running the audio channels on my iPhone using Skype which
eliminated the multi-tasking problem.

Yesterday, Skype released an iPad version of “Skype for iPad” free from the
Apple App Store. This version of Skype for iPad works in the multi-tasking
background.

Once PSDR is running in AirDisplay on the iPad, double-click the Home button on
the iPad, execute Skype for iPad and initiate the call to Skype running on the
FLEX machine (it must be configured to answer automatically). Then double-click
the Home button on the iPad again and go back to PSDR. There, operate PSDR as
usual. You can even do a QuickAudio recording to listen to your transmit audio
stream.

When finished, you can quit PSDR and hang up the Skype connection.

[Flexradio] Tuning step and HRD problems

2011-03-30 Thread Ronald G. Parsons
I just installed PSDR 2.0.22 and Ham Radio Deluxe Release 5.0 Build 2893
(released yesterday).

I noted two problems.

1. In PSDR Setup>General>Options, I have “Snap Click Tune” checked, but click
tuning in the panadapter tunes to 1 HZ, not the value set in “Tune Step.” Mouse
wheel tuning does follow Tune Step intervals.

2. With HRD 2893 and PSDR 2.0.22, the old CAT tuning slowness has partially
returned. Some tuning changes in PSDR get recognized immediately in HRD, but
sometimes there is a delay of 5-6 seconds. Tuning changes made in HRD seem to
be reflected in PSDR immediately.

Subject: [Flexradio] Drifting noise hills

I have noticed at times (particularly during fox hunts) what I can best
describe as a noise hill that usually drifts around in frequency. For a
width of several KHzon the panadapter I see what is shaped like a "normal
curve" that trails off for many more KHz. In panfall mode I can see a
brightening where the curve in the panadapter display.

Sometimes, when the peak of the curve is in the passband of the receiver I
can hear a shift in the noise frequency at around a second or two
intervals

as the peak drifts around.

I have observed this with both a 1000 and 1500 flex radios. Disconnecting
the antenna gives a flat display. Connecting a wire to the antenna several
feet long just in the shack does not show the noise hill, so it doesn't
look

like its something in the shack.

The effect happens with a number of antennas and is not consistent at all.
I

live in a rural area with other houses hundreds of yards away.

Has anyone else observed this sort of thing or have any idea what it might
be?

Thanks in advance!

Wow! The file size limit on Audacity if 4GB for a Wav. That's one big
file you have.

Try and run it through Monkey Audio - it can compress as much as 60%.

If you can get it under 4gb you should be able to process it in Audacity.

Good luck!

Generally, you could compress the wave file with a lossless compression
format like FLAC, but I do not think FLAC will compress wave

files created from the FLEX-5000

Are you sure? The birds have a linear translator. The relationship between
frequency is fixed. So if the linear translator is inverting then increasing
the uplink by 5kHz would cause the downlink to decrease by 5kHz.

And then there is radial velocity correction, i.e. correcting both channels for
doppler. In that case the correction IS a ratio of the frequencies. And that
ratio depends on the radial velocity of the bird relative to your station and
is constantly changing. The right solution is to calculate the radial velocity
and do the doppler correction for both channels separately, so that the uplink
signal stays fixed in the satellite transponder's passband. If you have
software that does that you will see the frequency of both TX and RX changing
by different amounts continuously. This is actually the correct thing to do.

Oh and then there is the bozo on the other end who tries to correct *his*
transmit frequency to keep his signal in the passband. :-)

It don't come easy!

Bring PowerSDR up first and then HRD/DM780.

Both VAC's should be opened at the VAC sample rate set in PowerSDR
(typically 48000)

One comment on the sampling rates and using Vista/Win7.

In XP, when PowerSDR enables VAC, it properly sets the bit depth and
sampling rate of the two VAC cables (audio I/O devices)

In Vista and Win7, this is not necessarily the case. Each audio I/O
device has it's own "default" number of channels, bit depth and sampling
rate and PowerSDR was not able to override those settings.

When I was configuring Win7, I was getting strange behavior until I
opened the VAC Control Panel (not PowerSDR) and noticed that the VAC
channel

had a sampling rate of 44100 Hz not the 48000 Hz I had PowerSDR set for.

Ed is correct that down sampling to 8000 or 12000 Hz from 48K is more
efficient that doing it from 44100 Hz.

You may want to open the VAC Control Panel and see exactly how Windows
has the VAC cables defined in regards to sampling rate. If it is not
getting set correctly, you may have to change the default sampling rate in
Windows for the VAC channels (input and output) to match what you have
PowerSDR set up for.

It could be RFI causing the problem. Try another digimode program. I
recommend Fldigi, the 3.20.0bA (beta) version:
http://www.w1hkj.com/beta.html) and using the PowerSDR RigCat
configuration

for CAT control. Here is reference for setting up Fldigi with PowerSDR.

Re: [Flexradio] Dedicate PC for Flex

2010-02-13 Thread Ronald G. Parsons

At the risk of beating a dead horse ...

When I first got my FLEX-3000, I had only one computer that had a FireWire
port -- thus it became my FLEX radio computer. And email, personal finance,
Google lookups, It was running Vista Ultimate, Windows Mail, Norton
Security, Although it had DPC's sometimes up to 4000 uSec., it ran the
FLEX acceptably well. It did have an occasionally stop on PSDR, but it
wasn't too bad.

The main reason I got a dedicated computer for the FLEX was personal
preference. It just got too confusing (for me) to have all this going on on
one screen. With two machines and Win 7's Homegroups, sharing files was
easy.

Now I have two computers dedicated to my FLEX -- the second being a netbook
on my desk which I connect to the FLEX remotely from the den.

So, whether you have one, two, (or more) computers for your FLEX, it's YOUR
personal choice.

Let me add another voice. I use the computer connected to my FLEX-3000 often

the FLEX. I do not do email (except occasionally to access my mail account

I do not believe you should ignore Microsoft updates, especially if you are
internet connected. Most of the updates are security related and ignoring
them could leave you vulnerable. You can always be selective in which

Dick, Totally agree with you. I use my PC for not only running the
radio, but also doing my logging, DX spot/cluster software and general WEB
use. I think the most important thing about the PC is getting to a good
solid baseline and leaving it there. If everything is running great, why
do any upgrades. People have just gotten use to doing every upgrade that
comes along. I work on a large military project, and once we lock in a

PowerSDR was working fine before the updates; now, after the updates, it

I suspect that it would all go back to working if I were to restore my

Re: [Flexradio] Remote Desktop Connection and PSDR 1.18.x

2010-02-11 Thread Ronald G. Parsons
Thanks, Dudley, for the hint on LogMeIn. Very easy to install and connect.
Connected audio via Skype and a USB headset and the audio was very clear and
the latency was not too bad. Used it to make a contact on 20m USB and also
PSK31 via HRD/DM780 and Logbook. Audio via Skype together with Remote
Desktop Connection was very poor.

Ron,

The issue with Remote Desktop is that it by default will take over the
sound drivers (which the Flex is controlled and passes I/Q signals) so
this is why the radio is not coming up.. Try LogMeIn or one of the VNC
variants to take control of the computer, I think that you will find that
it will work much better.

Keith,

Thanks, that fixed the loading problem. Remotely I started PSDR and
HRD/DM780 and successfully received and transmitted PSK31.

Now on to connecting the audio in and out for SSB. Will try Skype as a
remote connection. Or do you have a better suggestion?

In my config I have the Flex 5000 running from a compact Shuttle machine
running XP, and remote desktop to it from a number of different XP
machines.

It works fine, if I remember correctly you need to select the option
"Leave
at remote computer" for "remote computer sound" under the "Local
Resources"

tab.

[Flexradio] PSDR power output readings

2010-02-02 Thread Ronald G. Parsons
I am using Whisper mode (WSPR) with my FLEX-3000 and thus using very low power,
so small power differences are significant.

As I increase power output, the Fwd Pwr reading will change from 0 to 1. Does
this reading at this moment indicate 0.5W or 1.0W?

In other words, is the Fwd Pwr reading the rounded power output (0.51W
indicates 1) or the truncated power output (0.51W indicates 0)?

[Flexradio] Keeping FireWire cable securely attached to FLEX-3000

2009-12-17 Thread Ronald G. Parsons
Every few days, I find my computer cannot find my FLEX-3000. I find that the
FireWire cable (the one that came with my FLEX-3000) has worked its way
slightly out of the connector. Pushing it back in cures the problem.

The cable is hanging freely from the back of the 3000 to the floor, about a
meter. It has no retainer clips or screws like the good ol' days of DB-25.
Modern connectors like FireWire, HDMI, etc. have no retainers.

Is there a clever way of securing the cable to its socket?
