Re: [Framers] FM19 Publish PDF Problem

2020-01-08 Thread Reng Winfried
Hi John,

I remember vaguely that sometimes the PDF printer was not
installed correctly. Users just had to install a trial version of the
current Acrobat version and then this feature worked.
It was not needed to upgrade Acrobat entirely.

FrameMaker 2019 does not care which printer is the default printer
or which printer is selected for Save As PDF or Publish to PDF.
(I always have set our local printer, and use Distiller to create the PDF,
and it still works. And Amitoj Singh had confirmed this.)

Please correct me, when I am wrong. You just installed FrameMaker,
and you might remember this. I think that there isn't any option
to install or not install any headless Distiller with FrameMaker 2019.
FrameMaker uses its own PDF engine.

What did you set in the Publish pod to create your PDF? With Distiller or
without?

Best regards

Winfried

Hey, John, can you create a PDF if you use Save as PDF, or if you print to
file using the Adobe Printer? In other words, does it fail the same way for
all 3 ways of creating a PDF, or only if you use the Publish pod?

Re: [Framers] FM19 Publish PDF Problem

2020-01-08 Thread Lin Sims
I'm pretty certain that Acrobat 9 is too old to be used by the Publish pod.
Your best choice is probably to get your employer to pony up for a
subscription to Acrobat DC.

However (because I could be wrong), try contacting Adobe support for the
Technical Communication Suite.

https://helpx.adobe.com/support/tech-comm-suite.html

Make sure you are logged in to the Adobe site with a valid Adobe ID
(preferably the one associated with the license or subscription for
FrameMaker) and scroll to the bottom of the page to the chat icon. Click it
and type in Agent in order to get connected to a real Adobe employee
instead of the AI. Good luck.

Re: [Framers] FM19 Publish PDF Problem

2020-01-08 Thread Lin Sims
The Publish pod for Frame2019 is a complete replacement for how Frame
creates PDFs. I don't think the Publish pod can even work with Acrobat 9 as
the PDF engine.

If you didn't use a custom install and already had Acrobat installed on
your machine, then it's probable that Acrobat 9 is conflicting with the
"headless" version of Acrobat installed with Frame2019 that Frame2019 is
trying to use to create PDFs through the Publish Pod. And if you DID do the
custom install and prevented Frame from installing the headless version,
the Publish Pod is looking for Acrobat DC and not finding it.

Basically, your choices are to remove Frame and do a custom reinstall
without the included Acrobat engine, and thus being unable to use the
Publish pod to generate a PDF, or to remove Acrobat 9 completely and
reinstall Frame to fix the publishing engine.

[Framers] Creating pdf fails if name contains certain chaaracters

2020-01-08 Thread Klaus Daube
I have just filed bug https://tracker.adobe.com/#/view/FRMAKER-7721 for
FM-15.0.4.571

I have an FM file named _[i]_FM-Commands_0_UKE_FDK.fm (name is generated by a
FrameScript) and wanted to create a pdf by means of the PDFL.

This works fine until it comes to View pdf: The dialogue just closes - and the
pdf does
not exist. If I just leave the dialogue (without wanting to view the file) i
can not
find the file either.

Something like this was already reported 2018-08-30 during beta testing:
«The severe bug of creating new "ghost folders" if the output path contains
special
characters is a show stopper. Save as PDF should be a quick and easy process,
as
we saw this in versions before
2019»~~
