[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #24317] 22/22 bulbs in science

2016-01-17 Thread Marko Lindqvist
Follow-up Comment #1, bug #24317 (project freeciv):

It would be surprising if the situation fixed itself before player gets even
more bulbs (or negative amount, but still having enough bulbs for getting the
new tech) as giving out the tech is checked when amount of bulbs changes. Does
LT change any of the situations where bulbs are granted?

> [16:05:16] (T11 - 08:57:28)  :nope , I chaged to ceremonial and I got
20/25 and then back to pottery at 22/22

Here it's still changing back to the *original* tech, not to a completely new
tech. Original (usually 'beginning of the turn') tech is special in that you
don't get penalized if you (accidentally) change tech and then back to
original -> you get the original values, not recalculated ones.

No, we ask not to do that because that would mean the ai-controlled kingom

Not sure when it will be. Next weekend (23-24 Jan) at the latest, but I

I don't see a way to save a scenario without a gameseed, so unless the
scenario is edited by hand, the start position allocation and nations from
games with the scenario will be the same every time. (At least, that happens
with 2.5.1 and current S2_5, and I think this is the cause.)

Probably there should be a scenario option "Save random seeds" which controls
whether mapseed and gameseed are saved in the scenario.

(This means that the mapseed used to generate any scenario map would be lost,
where it might be nice to keep it as documentation of how the map was
generated. However, I think it's necessary to be able to save a zero mapseed
to get random huts and resources.)

Follow-up Comment #3:

Are the random seeds the only settings that change their value automatically
from what they are set to?
In S2_6+ this is also an issue in relation to 'defaultness' of a setting. Is
seed value explicitly set to 0 automatically changed to 992788471 considered
to be in default value (OTOH, 'defaultness' information might provide a way
for making the fix a bit easier way)
In any case, we should not lose support for explicitly set reproducibility
when fixing this (not replacing one bug with another)

Asking to be reminded to ask what actions the unit can do to a tile doesn't
change the game world. Stop sending it in the unit_do_action packet.

Asking about actions is done by the client. A unit's action decision state
therefore belongs to it even if it is stored at the server side too. The same
is true for a unit's battle group number. It too is handled client side.

Expand the unit_battlegroup packet to also cover action decision state. It is
therefore used to set more than one kind of unit server side client owned
state. Rename it to unit_sscs_set.

Remember to update network caps

There are apparently three new sound events for 2.6, and four not yet

 e_enemy_spy_steal_gold = "" ;;; new in 2.6
 e_my_spy_steal_gold = "";;; new in 2.6
 e_unit_illegal_action = ""  ;;; new in 2.6 and out of order
 e_script = ""   ;;; out of order
 e_disaster = "" ;;; out of order
 e_achievement = ""  ;;; out of order

Years ago (before 2.4.4) e_tutorial = "" was removed or renamed, I still had
it in a modified freesounds.soundspec. For unknown reasons I also had no
e_ai_debug = "" in this tweaked freesounds.soundspec.

A 2.5.99 alpha (r31157) client did not support a modified new.musicspec with
music.menu = "some.ogg" (was soundspec music.start = "some.ogg") in the 2.5 or
2.6 modpack directories.

Adding new.musicspec directly to the read-only ./data directory was not good
enough, the client still did not find 2.6 or 2.5/dunnoob/some.ogg,but adding
it to the installed read-only ./data/stdmusic folder worked.

Please use the same search logic for music data as for everything else. Two
suggestions for freesounds.soundspec:

 e_destroyed (R.I.P.) can use the sound for e_wonder_build
 e_unit_buy can use "freesounds/events/e_imp_buy-31377.ogg"

Details:

Freeciv-2.5.99-alpha+r31157-gtk2 on Windows installs libpng14-14.dll AND
libpng15-15.dll. It should either use libpng20-20.dll or later to get rid of
some obscure libpng security issues (cf. libpng site), or stick to
libpng14-14.dll. The PNG folks managed to break their ICC color profile
handling somewhere between 15 and 19 temporarily, 14 is a last known good
version, allegedly 20 is again good enough.

Freeciv-2.5.99-alpha+r31157-gtk2 on Windows installs libeay32.dll and
libssl32.dll, but these critical libraries do not show their version numbers
in Windows explorer (unlike most other DLLs used by FreeCiv.) Default
assumption: Whatever openSSL you have, it is critically insecure and fixed in
a newer openSSL.

The libvorbis-0.dll used in FreeCiv 2.4.4 up to 2.5.99 has a size of 154 KB.
The same (?) library in Wesnoth 1.12.2 has a size of 215 KB. One FreeCiv
version claims to be libVorbis I 20090709...
Xiph.Org libVorbis 1.2.3, the Wesnoth 1.12.2 version claims to be libVorbis I
20140122 (Turpak).Xiph.Org libVorbis 1.3.4. Maybe the Wesnoth libVorbis
is "better" or at least "fresher".

The Xiph.org libvorbis license wants to be shown somewhere even in binary
distributions (ordinary copyright + disclaimer), but I don't find the place
where FreeCiv and Wesnoth try this. FFMpeg and MPlayer (etc.) are distributed
with a libvorbis.txt license.

IMHO the libMagick* stuff is gross, it seriouly uses 48 (or 64) bits for about
1000 colours. Windows users can handle PPM P6 for 24 bits RGB (or PAM P7 with
transparency in 32 bits) if they have FFMpeg or XnView or NetPBM or ANYTHING
better than only MSPaint.

If you can offer PNG (24 bits RGB or 32 bits RGBA) based only on
libpngNN-NN.dll + zlib1.dll you might not need the two libMagick*.

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #6818] Make Vista the minimum requirement for Windows Installer builds

2016-01-17 Thread Frank
Follow-up Comment #1, patch #6818 (project freeciv):

As long as Vista or later installations do not really work, because Freeciv
tries to write to its own installation directory (stdout + stderr + crash RPT
+ map colour test output among others, strictly forbidden on Vista or later)
this is a slightly odd suggestion.

The default FREECIV_PATH is also unsuited for Vista or later, because Freeciv
can be only started with CWD = installation directory, or (in theory) CWD =
data subdirectory of the installation directory.

These issue are related, if Freeciv 2.x could be started elsewhere (e.g., in
the writable modpack 2.x directory) while still finding its own install/data
stuff, everything would be fine.

spec*.h files were moved to utility/ when it was created. Update
header_guard.sh accordingly. As a bonus this makes "common/specialist.h" not
to erroneously match.

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #6818] Make Vista the minimum requirement for Windows Installer builds

2016-01-17 Thread Marko Lindqvist
Follow-up Comment #2, patch #6818 (project freeciv):

I think we should split your points to a new ticket(s). Then we could debate
if this ticket would depend on them or not.
The fact that MS itself has dropped support for older Windows version makes
supporting them, and losing important functionality from *all* versions
because of that, quite pointless.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #24321] Obsolete or insecure libraries

2016-01-17 Thread Marko Lindqvist
Follow-up Comment #1, bug #24321 (project freeciv):

Are you sure you got the libpng dll versioning correctly? I would think
libpng-14.xx.dll would be releases from libpng14 (or 1.4) and libpng-15.xx.dll
from libpng15 (or 1.5). Latest release of the former is 1.4.19 and latter
1.5.26. Latest development branch of libpng is libpng17.

Where are the libssl libraries being used? I assume it's a recursive
dependency via curl.

I've been doing some work to get freeciv to build on MSYS2 based environment,
so I would not spent too much time in attempts to get dlls in MSYS1 updated.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #24320] Music- and soundspec issues

2016-01-17 Thread Marko Lindqvist
Follow-up Comment #1, bug #24320 (project freeciv):

Umh, is this all about freesounds? You're right that now that it's changed for
S2_6 anyway (technically as a 3rd party modpack, there was no new version in a
long time as soundset format remained compatible) it would make sense to
update event list too.

The musicspec issue sounds weird. In any case, testing with 2.5 for comparison
makes no sense as 2.5 had no musicsets.
Have you tested if custom mqtx musicset works for you?
Are you sure you don't have not referenced folder 'stdmusic/' in your
new.musicspec?

Oh, there's no '2.6' modpack directory yet, since S2_6 has not reached
datafileformat freeze! Current builds use directory 'test'.
