In actual fact you need a laptop to standard IDE adapter. the 2.5 to 3.5 adapter only applies to hard disks. The CD-ROM end of a CD-ROM adapter is totally different. OT - Sticky' Page elements on eBay?
This is OT as strictly it has nothing to do with Macs per se at all, but I can't think of anywhere else to ask the question. So my apologies, and I ask for your indulgence. I frequent eBay.co.uk. In recent months I;ve noticed a strange phenomenom, in that it can take a very long time for a page to load. I mean minutes. I have an ADSL cinnection, so it's not line speed, and indeed looking at my router during most of the delay there won't be any traffic. I get messages on the status line like this completed 1 of 4 items : 2 errors. The bizarre thing is that this beaviour varies from week to week. Last week, for example, the site was very responsive. Since their weekly Friday morning maintenance shut-down, it's been like treacle. I've tried raising the issue with eBay but with no success at all - they won't even acknowledge it. Furthermore I'm pretty certain it's an external issue - it's the same using both Safari IE on my PowerMac, Safari on the Lombard, and even IE5.5 on a PC laptop. Does anyone else see such behaviour? Anyone got any suggestions as to why it happens? Reply off-list of you'd prefer not to take up list bandwidth. Tom Burke -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Titanium Buzz
I got my new TiBook and it's absolutely amazing. I ran Xbench on my old Pismo and on my new TiBook, and the Pismo scored 34, and the TiBook got a whopping 87! Talk about an upgrade! Anyhow, I am seeing, or perhaps hearing is a better word, an odd phenomenon. The notebook has been making a very, very faint buzzing or crackling noise, and I can't figure out where it's coming from. And even more strangely, when I run Mac Help and run a search, it makes a very high frequency tone. I'm somewhat disturbed by this but it appears that none if this is affecting the Book's functionality. Has anyone else seen these problems before? I would think it's the hard drive but I'm not very sure of that diagnosis. Thanks, Peter -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Although not much help at the moment, OS 10.3 (Panther's) version of iChat contains inbuilt support for web-cam conversations. You may find that 10.3 will natively support your cam them. Yep, I'm sure. MacRumors.com (of which I'm a member and completely agree with you) don't seem to have been emailed yet, and usually they comply straight away without CD's (ie leaker PowerMac G5 specs), but many other sites including spymac.com have been sent them. anyways.. we'll find out for sure on monday. But here my 2 cents: I have a FW iBot cam which I got to work just nicely using iVisit and QT broadcaster, no troubles there at all ... I am sure waiting for iChat with webcam support ... Now If I could only find a good website telling me how to set up the cam as a webcam (that old style, non streaming, new pic every 10 secs), I'd be happy ... Nowadays looking for that in google only reveals xxx stuff .. Cheers P -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Nowadays looking for that in google only reveals xxx stuff .. Have you tried looking for info like that on something like techtv.com? I was just thinking that if you could find a site with some decent information on it, you could bypass the xxx. Otherwise the boards at macaddict.com have been helpful for me. Just a thought if you havent given those a go yet. Cheers, matt -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... A quick search with Google's Mac search engine, http://www.google.com/mac?hl=enlr=ie=ISO-8859- 1q=webcam+netmeetingbtnG=Google+Search brings back a bunch of links, several of which look promising, none of which are xxx. This one in particular looks like it might be a starting point, if you haven't been there already: http://netconference.about.com/cs/camsoftwaremac/ The key to using Google these days, as it becomes more and more commercial, is learning to use the Google syntax, http://www.google.com/apis/reference.html#2_2 to restrict and direct your search. Of course, there's also Google's subject and country specific search engines that are well worth using.
