Re: GPS on Pismo
- Original Message - From: Ed Theriault [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: G-Books [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, December 14, 2003 11:15 PM Subject: GPS on Pismo Has anyone been using GPS and Map software on their powerbook? I'm interested in trying it but would like to know of experiences of others who may be using it. Any opinions or suggestions are welcome. Happy Holidays to All Ed T I use a Garmin eTrex GPS receiver and two applications, one called GPSy and Delorme's Street Atlas on my Pismo and it works fine. My only complaint is that I have to use Classic mode. Delorme refuses to make an OS X version of their software. I just heard about one called Route 66 2004 that will be out in January; I intend to get it and the OS X update of GPSy and try them next year. The GPSy web site has info on cables, adapters and other things you may need you can check it out here:http://www.gpsy.com Last year a group of us rented a house in the Poconos for the NASCAR Pocono 500. Although one of the group had been there the year before, I asked for the address and used my Pismo to track our route. As it turned out, we got seperated from the other 3 cars in the caravan but since I had the address and the GPS; we got to the house 45 minutes ahead of anyone else. Now my buddies don't give me quite as bad a time about my geekiness. Joe Ellis -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... There was an interesting item in the latest MacMall catalogue: a Belkin USB notebook card that will let you input video w/o Fireware. It has RCA and S-video inputs. However, I'm running OS 9.1 - is there any product which can trigger the import of video? My aim is to digitize my VHS tapes and some day convert them to DVD. I get the 'Disconnect' as described when my ISP times out my dial-up connection and rather then restart you can pull the plug on the phone connection for about 10 seconds then re-plug and it sorts itself. Andrew, Try contacting this guy: Ron Whitney [EMAIL PROTECTED] I found him selling new Apple hinges on ebay, at the time (Sept.), $49 for left or right or add $30 for both. For about $91 including shipping (to USA), my Wallstreet now has new Apple hinges. And he's located in Canada. By the way, the hinges came in sealed and stickered Apple packaging. They are not upgraded hinges, but the price is right for another 3 to 5 (?) years of service. Shawn On Monday, December 15, 2003, at 01:35 PM, Andrew wrote: That's very reassuring to hear. Re: Any way to import video into a Wall Street Powerbook?
I can vouch for the Capsure, but it will only import analog video. It doesn't digitize it. Your best bet is to use something like the ADS Pyro Pro (which will digitize your analog video and import and export in multiple ways) and you could import via firewire PC card (which I think would be fastest way to transfer video to the hard drive). I don't know of any PC card that will import and digitize at the same time. There are some digital video cameras that allow you to run analog video into them and they digitize it for you. Some of those export in USB as well as Firewire. It has RCA and S-video inputs. However, I'm running OS 9.1 - is there any product which can trigger the import of video? My aim is to digitize my VHS tapes and some day convert them to DVD. It seems there are combo players out there that will play VHS tapes and even record to DVD, but only from TV or an external source, not from the VHS player. Speaking of which, one of the few capture card I know compatible with OS 9 is the Capsure. It also has RCA and S-Video inputs. However, it's not sold anymore so you would have to look on eBay. -Laurent. -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...
