Hmm. My 700 Icebook has a dongle that gives S-video out, as well as

Try checking the settings in the Sound Preferences. Also run Audio

Gotta Wallstreet, now what?

2004-04-13 Thread Mike Kauspedas
Ok, so I got this cool little Powerbook G3:
Wallstreet PB G3 Series II
300MHz 1MB 66MHz bus
256MB RAM
CD-ROM (no DVD...odd)
etc...
I got it running OS X, but I'm going to replace the hard drive with
something faster. I already added the 256MB in but can't get 512MB to
work. Does anyone know some links or specifics on how to accomplish
that feat? IE, what kind of RAM is required? Also, does anyone know any
tweaks to speeding up OS X on it? Aside from more RAM, CPU, etc. I did
the thousand colors deal, it helped a little tiny almost unnoticeable
bit. Any other suggestions, feeling on these little guys? Any fixes to
watch for? Possible over-clocking? Any general information is
appreciated. thanks

Has anyone on the list had any experience with Seagate 2.5" drives?
There's what seems to be a good deal on Ebay for a 40Gig, 8Mb, 5400
drive. I use Seagate's exclusively on my desktops but have never tried
there laptop drives.

I figured since the light blinks after reset (with no battery or power
adapter connected) that means the backup battery must have some life left
in it. I can swap in my battery and see if that helps.

Thanks,

I personally would go with the snow. You are getting a better screen. I have
owned both and the snow just seems faster then a G3 powerbook of the same
speed.

Not a goner yet. But it doesn't bode well.

Check to see what color profiles you're using. Changing to a diff

Other World Computing sells a handy little adapter. I've used it with my G4

Re: Wallstreet video problems

2004-04-13 Thread Tom Zahm
I've had a similar problem, but it involved an external monitor. The
solution for me was to write a little program that set the resolution
appropriate to either built-in or external display and to incorporate
it into the startup sequence.

Details on request.

Intermittent backlight on Wallstreet LCD

2004-04-13 Thread COCCORP
Hello G-thang'ers...

I need help w/ a 14.1" LCD Wallstreet I have, that is giving me trouble.

When on, the backlighting on the LCD is fine UNTIL one of the following
little accidental or purposeful actions are committed, then the backlighting either
flickers or goes out (until the same act is duplicated) :

(1) if the screen is moved. Sometimes it does nothing; other times it causes
the backlighting to go off. Moving the screen in any manner can most of the
time bring it back.

(2) if the power cord is accidentally or purposefully moved or jiggled, it
can cause the backlighting to flicker or go completely out. Re-jiggling it will
bring it back.

(3) pressing on the clutch cover (the plastic cover w/ the power button & the
screen controls) can cause the backlighting to go out, or come back on. I use
this as my "turn the backlighting back on" action if it goes out by other
means!)

What is the deal? Obviously something is loose somewhere internally, but
what? It first I thought it may be the screen's two connections to the mobo, but I
checked them and they appeared fine. Plus, if that was the culprit, would
moving the ac adapter plug around (when in the AC/Sound card's AC socket) cause
the flickering also?

And I never lose power to the WS, so the AC/Sound card should be properly
seated...right?

Help? Thanks,

Craig W.

PB blank blue screen

2004-04-13 Thread aramone 2

Hi there, The power inverter on my PB died last year, but I've been using it
fine with an external monitor since then (it was due to be fixed in two
weeks). But now suddenly my external monitor just shows a blank blue screen.
On the laptop screen the normal login menu comes up - i can make it out
enough to log in, then it shows all the icons etc., but the external monitor
screen just changes to the wavy blue desktop design, nothing else, e.g.
menu bar.

Any ideas appreciated.

Audio and Panther (was Re: Jaguar on Beige G3)

2004-04-13 Thread Luis Sequeira
At least in the Powerbook, unless audio in is vital, Panther is the way to go.
Do you mean that there are problems with using the audio inputs under Panther?
I had never heard of that. I am running Panther on my 1GHz TiBook and
was planning to do some (admittedly basic) audio stuff: digitizing
some old audio tapes and LPs. Should I expect problems?
I thought it would be pretty straightforward, as I once did just that
on a Wallstreet with Mac OS 9.

[Help!]: Lombard powers on for only seconds

2004-04-13 Thread bannonth
Hi, a friend just got a lombard 333 and I've only been able to get it to
run once. Hitting the power button does nothing. If you press and
release the reset button in the rear then wait the required 5 sec and hit
power still nothing happens. But if you do the reset then pull the main
battery and re-insert it the book powers up but only for a second before
it shuts itself off. Some how I got it to boot up once and it did fine
but I've gotten the same response since I shut it down.

The original thought was a bad battery, power supply, or power board. We
tried using my battery and power adapter and that didn't seem to help.
The time I did get it to boot, it gave me a bit of a shock when I picked
it up with my hand near the power adapter connection. That wasn't a good
sign, but it continued to run fine even after I pulled the cord. That made
me think there was at least a bad connection on the power board. I just
tore it all down and reseated the board and I still get the same response.
I'd think it was damaged when it shocked me but it ran fine.

Please let me know if you have any ideas!! This 'book is for a PC-user
who decided he wanted to play with X. This is not giving him a very good
impression of Apple products (or buying supposedly working items off
Ebay).

Thanks,

Tom
