Hello all,

For some reason, after I changed ISP's, my Pismo refuses to
auto-connect to my Airport Network. I had to change my Airport
network
settings from automatic to a specific network under the by
default
join dialog. Normally, this wouldn't be a big deal, but since it's
not set to automatic, on those rare occasions when I'm actually out
and
about with my Pismo, I have to remember to set it back to automatic
just to join a hot spot. Anyone know why this is? Should I delete
my

network altogether and just create a new one? Here's the specs:

Pismo 500/1gigRAM/Airport card w/ Airport Base Station (snow). All
software is up to date, with exception of Tiger. I'm currently
using

Panther 10.3.9.

Thanks for any input on this matter,

Zoltan

Zoltan,

This has just happened to me in the last week. Now when I come home
and open up my Pismo I have to click on the airport icon in the menu
and select my network. Used to do that automatically. Also it no
longer asks if I want to connect to any open network it finds
elsewhere.

I have a Pismo 400/768/40G/Airport card with a Belkin wireless
router.

Using 10.3.9.

Don't know if it is related or not but it takes a lot longer lately
to

load any Safari pages. I checked my DSL speed on one of those free
sites and it has not changed. Just got a new (to me) iMac G3
400Mhz/640/10G/Airport and it seems to be much more snappier.

Any programs that would cause this? Airport card gone bad? Trying to
think of the changes I have made... Anybody else out there notice
this?

Thanks,

Dan-

Dan,

Now see this is getting interesting. I hope we didn't stumble on some
kind of bug in Panther. I'm wondering if this is just a Panther
thing,
or if it is something that would go away with Tiger. Keep me posted
if

you discover a fix. I'll do the same.

Zoltan

The Computer Doctor

Zoltan,

In the last couple of days this has come back on for me.

The only change I am sure of is that I quit Macaroni (I had recently
downloaded this and am running on its trial mode). Shortly after this
I started connecting automatically again. I then started Macaroni up
again but this time no change, auto-connect is still working. So I
don't know if this had any bearing on the problem or that the timing
was just coincidental.

Any luck on your end? I'm glad to have auto-connect back but still
curious as to what the problem was.

Let me know how you are doing.

Dan-

Dan,

WELL NOW. . . this is strange. It's working for me as well! What did
I do? Absolutely nothing other than change it back to automatic
after reading your last post to see if mine would work! I wonder if
this was a timed thing in Airport. . . at this point I guess anything's
possible. I'll keep you and the list posted in case it stops working
again. THANKS! :)

Zoltan

Samsung MF Printers SCX4216

2005-08-29 Thread Chris Zantides

G'day,

I have the above printer connected via USB to my ibook - working well.

However, when I try to use image capture to scan an image, it does
not recognize that it has a scanner connected - has anyone
experienced something similar? Am I just out of luck?

Thanks,
hris

Nah, this is merely the little documented Silicon Pyschic Neuronal
Chip (SPinNaCh) Apple's been embedding in their systems for some
time, so that the true cause of problems remains hidden.

It senses (via telepathy, and advanced screen reading and recognition
techniques) you have an idea about something to try, so it stops
doing whatever's wrong just to confuse and annoy you.

This is a highly advanced, electronic version of the old 1930's Ford
No Noise Assembly which automatically masks odd noises in the
presence of a mechanic, later adopted as a industry-wide standard.

What, you REALLY think 'supercomputing' power levels are required to
run Word and Safari??

Re: batteryrefill.com

2005-08-29 Thread Robert Eye
I had considered them for a battery for the clamshell
366 iBook I just acquired from eBay. I decided to buy
a new (not Apple) battery w/1 year warranty from an
eBay seller for $77 including shipping; the one I
bought turns out to give me at least 4 solid hours of
operation after its first charge.

I hope to hear more about batteryrefill.com. I have
another clamshell on the way for my younger son, and
will likely need a new battery for it. I may just go
ahead and bite the bullet and try them. If I do, I'll
post back. I like the idea of sending in the pack and
having them rebuild it with fresh cells.

 They advertise a
refilled battery pack for an i-book for around $80.

upgrading my wallstreet

2005-08-29 Thread david
i've been meaning to fix my 250 wallstreet for some time now, i've got the
sound card/power supply part to replace, i'm getting more ram to install
(2 x 256), and now i'm thinking... is it worth it to buy one of those
sonnet crescendo upgrades?

owc lists two models, one is a g4/500 upgrade for $350 and the other is a
g3/500 upgrade for $200.

i'll likely do the processor upgrade, but can anyone tell me, is the g4
worth $150 more than the g3? anyone have any experience or knowledge?

thanks in advance.

Re: upgrading my wallstreet

2005-08-29 Thread david

i also see from wegener media:

allegro g3/500 for $270
presto! g4/500 for $220
avanti g3/400 for $99

on the allegro page they also say:

Why not G4?
Good question.. But think about it. The only real advantage of G4 is the
Altivec processor, which is rarely utilized, except for video processing.
And the Wallstreet is really not set up for video processing anyway, so if
you WERE going to do video, you'd save that extra $150, and get a Pismo.
So, our opinion is, get the Allegro, save your pennies, and get on with
life!
