Re: Problem with iPhoto

2005-05-01 Thread Hector I . Macedo
Hi Sionach, if you have a external card reader, try it with the SD card
that the camera holds, Im sure that it will be recognized.

On May 1, 2005, at 1:58 AM, Sionnach Aisling wrote:
Hello.
I am new to the list. I've been using Macs for a long
time, althoughnot so much in recent years ;-) I'm
much better on pre-OS X problems. I was on the
Powerbooks list for awhile and still maintain and
frequently use my PB3400 as well as a Sonnet upgraded
7300 and a few other Macs I have sitting around.
This post, however, is about my wife's iBook G4 - a
bit more on topic ;-)
Anyway, I was hoping maybe someone could help me out
with a small problem.
Like I said, my wife has a iBook G4 running OS 10.3.9.
She is also running iPhoto 2.0.1 and has been using a
Pentax Optio S4 digital camera for over a year with
absolutely no trouble. (Although, I realized tonight
that Pentax cameras are not listed on Apples
"supported" list.)
Tonight, after taking a few photos, she went to import
them into iPhoto. She turned off her camera, plugged
in the USB cable, opened iPhoto and then turned the
Camera back on - just as she's done hundreds of times
in the past. This time, however, it didn't work. It
basically doesn't see that any camera is connected.
Also, where usually she would get an "untitled" disk
on her desktop when the camera mounted, she gets
nothing... it doesn't know the camera exists.
I had her try both USB ports and got the same result.
I had her try a freshly formatted SD card in teh
camera but it made no difference. The camera will
beep when it is plugged/unplugged from teh USB as if
it's detecting a power source. I had her try
attaching her Palm cradle to one of the ports and she
successfully did a hotsynch, so i know the ports are
working.
Her best friend uses an iBook G3 running 10.3.9 with
iPhoto 2.0.1 nad she happened to be there. We
connected the camera to her machine and it instantly
imported the photos - no problem at all. So I am
certain it is not her camera nor her USB cable.
I have a USB drive that utilizes SD cards for it's
data source. I put her SD card from her camera in it
and plugged it into her iBook. Nothing. It wouldn't
mount it or recognize it. It's power light did
illuminate when it was connected, however. I took the
same drive with the same card and plugged it into her
friends iBook G3 and instantly, iPhoto opened and it
started transferring files...
Anyother thoughts on things I can try to get this
working? It's very frustrating.
On a side note, I noticed that iPhoto shows it's
latest version to be 5.0.2 and there are update links
on the website for both 4.0.3 and 5.0.2. She has
never been given an option of updating her iPhoto in
any of her routine updates. She tried downloading
these updates tonight to see if it would help
(although i doubt it, since it won't even mount the
device to the desktop), but when running the iPhoto
4.0.3 update she gets a message stating it cannot be
installed because neither iPhoto 4 nor iPhoto 4.0.1
can be found. (Which is true since she is running
2.0.1) Should she update her iPhoto version? And how
can she go about updating from 2.0.1??
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer on
this. Again, I'm not real OS X savy, but hope to
pickup a lot more :-) My background is extensive in
hardware, however, and I do have quite a bit of mac
experience both with notebooks and desktops, so I look
forward to being able to contribute where I can as
well.
Thanks for reading,
Sionnach

Hi Chris, I have recorded my old LPs by using Griffin Technology's
"iMic" and Audacity or Sound Studio, which permit you to filter
extraneous noice and other filters. You could also use any other music
program like Final Vinyl or CD Spin Doctor (this last two are free)
but with less controls.
I will start transfering my tapes pretty soon.

You will also need an adaptor from the record player or tape player
Victor plugs to the 1/8 stereo in the iMic.

Bruce, if you dont find them, its really easy to make them from a sheet

hardware store, or best yet, make one with a metal tube or an empty

factory made.

Wallstreet not behaving

2005-02-12 Thread Hector I . Macedo
Lately my WS 292, OS 10.2.8 has started doing something weird:
It will start ok a few times but from time to time it will not start,
it will just make a small click click when the button is pressed. If I
try with the battery the clicking is slow, and if is on ac current the
clicking will be very fast. I found that the only way to make it
re-start is to physically unplug the hard drive and the card where the
memoty goes and then re-plug them

Does this ring a bell to someone?
Thanks

Re: Wireless connectivity?

2005-02-01 Thread Hector I . Macedo
Thanks a lot Bob, I'll give them a trial.
I did a quick Google search and the first 12-15 hits came back with
references the IOXperts driver. There may be another option or two,
but I didn't have the time to go through more Google hits.
So, I tend to agree with John. IOXperts looks like your best choice
at the moment.
<http://www.ioxperts.com/devices_80211b.html>
One advantage with their drivers is that you can use the same unlock
code for the OS X driver if you want to go that route in the near
future (i.e. you don't have to pay additional for the OS X driver).
BTW you shouldn't have any problem using it at public hotspots.
Wireless is wireless (other than the speed and distance differences
between 11b and 11g).

For those of us not familiar with the MN520, is it a 802.11b or

What OS are you wanting to use it with?

Hi Rad, there are a couple of solutions, for about 50 bucks you can
buy a PB holder that basically lifts it from its base and permits it to
run cooler.

OR...
You can do it the economical way, I made a support with 3/8 okuma
plywood and a piece of wood that lifts it from your lap and lets you
work cool. Price $ 3.00 and some work in the shop.

If you want, I can take a pict and send it to you.

Tivo, if you don't have anything important on the external driver, you
can use Disk Utility to re-initiallise the hardrive and don't forget to
include the drivers for OS 9.

Hi Laurent, yes, I have in that slot a 64 m chip which works ok, it
happens as soon as I install the 232 m memory chip.

I have swapped them at leas 3 times and its always the same result.

I should mention that I had before another 232 chip which did not want
to work on 10.2 so I called OWC and they sent me this one as a
warranty, but its doing that now.

Memory problem

2004-03-24 Thread Hector I Macedo
I just received and tried a new 256 megs on the upper slot of a
Wallstreet 292, It will start the normal routine and when I try to
start any program, a "veil" comes down making the screen darker and a
dialog on several languages appear, telling me to restart the computer,
when I do that, it repeats itself at nauseum.

Any cures? Comments?

You must have to take into consideration that in 1998 when the

was considered that the max would be 256. The system that came with it
was 8.6 s, a lot of water has pass under the bridge since then.

Re: Can this Wallstreet be saved?

2004-03-03 Thread Hector I Macedo
Hi Anne, My WS did the same for a while. It took me sometime to find
out the culprit. In my case it was a small program for a Wee-Cam that I
had installed some time back in 9.0 but when I updated to 9.2.2 it
started freezing, even when the camera was not plugged in so I was
stumped for a long while. After I trashed that program (by trial and
error) the problem went away.

Check your list of installed programs or extensions, it sounds like a
conflict to me.

Do you have Conflict Catcher? It may help to diagnose if its an
extension.

Re: Default word processor?

2004-02-18 Thread Hector I Macedo
Stan said:

On my Pismo I have both Appleworks 6 and Office v.X

Problem: I usually use Appleworks for the documents I create. (Old
habits die hard...) When I click on a file (which sports an AppleWorks
icon) it opens up in Word. The only way I am able to work around it is
to open the document up in Appleworks, but hey, I just want to click
and go.
Is there any way I can get Word to stop trying to be my default?

Hi Stan, if you are using OS 10.3, all you have to do is before opening
the document, command click it, then go to "open with:" select the
program that you want to open that kind of document and
that will be the default for other docs.

Re: Backing Up Itunes Music to La Cie External

2004-02-15 Thread Hector I Macedo
TIVO SAID: If I take the 6gig to a local Apple dealer, I guess that
they'll insert the
HD into a vacant machine and then transfer it to the La Cie. The shop
charges $60 an hour. Any guesstimates about how much time it will take
for
this to be done (so that I can figure costs)? Is there another way to do
this that is simpler? Thanks again, folks. Tivo

Tivo,
If you get an USB 2.5 enclosure for about 20 bucks at Meritline.com you
will not only solve the problem but you will have a handy portable
hardrive.
