Uh, correct me if I am wrong but iPhoto does, be default) store all photos by date, at least mine does :-) However you could use a program called iPhoto Buddy that allows you to have separate directories for whatever you want. I use it and have currently around 20 root directories with names that mean something but under that it is all iPhotos standard naming by date. Only issue I don't like is having to close iPhoto to change to another library. I understand that I am not that used to many of the terms used anymore (and some are new too), I have no clue what wifi means (has to be something about wireless, I guess, but...). Bluetooth is nice, real nice I bought a powerBook that came with bluetooth and I have a bluetooth keyboard (Apple), at the same time I bought a single button Apple bluetooth mouse but have since bought a McAlly two button with the scroll wheel. Love being completely wireless. Bluetooth is a short range wireless network up to around 30' or so. Lots of thing these days are bluetooth and you can use it to connect pda's or phones with bluetooth so again, no wires or dock or anything, just move within range and it connects. Airport is what Apple calls their wireless card and in this case it is a seperate base station. No need to string cable all over the house any more, unlike the old days :-) As far as I can see, the downside with it is the RAM, I was hoping for a bit of luxury on that side, but hopefully it wouldn't cost too much to buy some extra RAM, maybe eBay would be an idea? The HDD is perfect for me (used to 6 GB It has 200 Mhz less speed though, the question is how much of a difference that makes... Yes the HD will seem enormous at first but like everything you will over time fill it up. My 80gig currently has around 24gig of music which is a pretty good chunk of it and I never thought I would fill it at first either. Definatly have to add more ram What do you guys think? Is this as interesting as the other iBook, you think? I should really calculate a bit though, because it is not that much less than a new one from the cheapest stores here, and then I wouldn't have any costs on getting it here... But then again, a new one would be with less RAM and HDD, but a faster processor... Maybe I can live with only 30 GB, I do have a unused 80GB external one sitting here, that the Pismo for some reason wouldn't communicate with... Maybe I would have better luck with sys X... Depending on difference I would go new if possible. I have seen to many posts on the forum about people having problems and saying that they will just dump it on ebay.. At least with new you have warranty for up to 3 years... I have and still use a 366 graphite iBook and I bought a new PowerBook around 8 months ago 12 with a superdrive and 768meg of ram. I like the size of the PowerBook and really don't have any issues with the smaller screen over the 15. I have used a 17 PowerBook from time to time (brother in law's) and though it is nice it not pleasant to lug around, the biggest plus being the screen real estate that you have. I still use the iBook and don't have any problems with the screen size outside of resolution limitations for some of the new programs, but I can deal with it. I use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse with my PowerBook and it works great. I originally bought a Apple bluetooth mouse but prefered a two button mouse and recently bought a MacAlly bluetooth mouse with two buttons and scroll wheel, pretty nice except it goes to sleep after only a few minutes without moving it, says connection lost and you have to double click to wake it and then it takes a couple seconds to work again. Oh well, other then that they both work great. If the computer goes to sleep the mouse or keyboard will wake it. I was at my brother in laws and he wanted to try them on his 17, next morning he just turned the mouse back on and it woke my computer that was downstairs. Yes it uses the built in bluetooth, I did not want anything else to plug in and lose I have seen a couple others advertised but these were in stock at Westworld Computers in Calgary so bought it there. It is a bit smaller than the Apple mouse but so far no problems. If you use the Apple mouse it tells you battery status while the MacAlly does not. My Aluminum Powerbook is a 1.33 ghz and if I type in the line in terminal it spits out 1.33328 ghz so pretty accurate. I would think that he has a computer that does not have the built in Bluetooth and is using the keyboard and mouse with a usb-bluetooth adaptor. If he is using an adapter he may have it plugged into a usb hub. If you are using an adaptor have you tried plugging it back into the computer and see if it works, may be some issue with hubs. Shawn, You are correct, there were no combo drives available so I should have put dvd/cd drive. As far as I knew the only SE's were the graphite, or that's what everyone tells me and MacTracker said the same thing. I know that the second generation came in different speeds but again the SE is listed as the only 466mhz. Where is your info from? May have to forward it to MacTracker so they can update their files. The graphite SE was made in two versions. P1 Introduced Jul 1999 and discontinued in Sept 2000 Processor was 300mhz in Blueberry or Tangerine and 366 for the Graphite SE 300mhz came with 32meg ram onboard and the 366's came with 64meg Video was ATI Rage Mobility 4 meg on both P1.5 Introduced Sept 2000 and discontinued in May 2001 Processor was 366mhz for Indigo and Key Lime and 466mhz for the Graphite SE All had 64 meg of ram onboard All had ATI Rage Mobility 8 meg Video The SE's came with a dvd/cdrw drive The most obvious difference is that the P1.5's had firewire port while the earlier ones did not. First thing to check is to see if there is firewire or not. Then check the system and see what speed the processor is. congrats on your new toy. When I bought my PowerBook they threw in a Marware sleeve. Not bad but to light duty for what I like so I bought a Booq bag (auction on spymac). Still in the plastic wrapper and it is very nice, good padding etc. I do use the shoulder strap from the Marware sleeve as it does not slip where the one from Booq is not as good. Stuff that I have bought since iPod 40gig, bluetooth wireless keyboard and mouse. Both Apple. The keyboard is great with a nice feel but looks like it will go through batteries pretty fast so when these die I will switch to rechargables. The Mouse is good but I really miss the second button and scroll wheel so will try one of the other ones out there. All in all, really happy. My brother in law bought a 17 Powerbook and was trying to get the keyboard going but it refused. Turns out in the end that when he turned it on upstairs it would wake my PowerBook downstairs. More memory, never hurts I am looking at an iCurve stand but so far have resisted. Mine gets really warm and temps stay around 46 or 47c so may look into a cooling stand for it. I have the standard 12 / 1GHz / Combo / 256MB / 30GB Hard Drive / 10.3 etc... I have a Backpack that was designed to have a laptop in it, It's got a nice cushy section that will protect the laptop nicely and leave enough room for my college books. I have a 12 Powerbook and at the moment it is sitting around 65c or 150f so pretty warm. Never seems to run hotter but I felt this was maybe a bit high. I was looking at the icurve to also raise the laptop a bit higher. I have looked at the web site and they have for $22 a stand with a temperature sensor and is supposed to adjust the speed of the fans. If anyone has one of the 13$ ones how load is it? I don't think it should be getting that hot! Maybe the fans are not working. Mine definitely gets warm and I have seen temps at 58 or 59c but not higher than that. In sleep mode it should stay cold as nothing will be running. It depends on a lot of things. :-) A lot of people will tell you that it is not worth it as they are old computer, as far as computers go. But the Clamshells have a unique style and are unlike anything else out there so if you want something like that they are good. They are also pretty rugged as far as portables go. Still sell for good prices on ebay or elsewhere, I watched a Key Lime 366 sell on ebay, a month or so ago, for $1025.00US. The downside is that they are a bit bulky when compared to the new iBooks or PowerBooks If you can get a logic board for a decent price it could be worth it. I don't know if you have a firewire one or not but the 466mhz boards do so if you have one that does not have firewire you will have to cut a hole in your case. I have seen it done and none of the other ports are moved so seems pretty easy. Mikeal, There are screen protectors out there that you can put directly on the screen to protect it. I have also seen soft fabric sheets that cover the keyboard/trackpad etc and when closed will provide protection for the screens. Jim, I have been using Virtual PC v6 on a 12 Powerbook 1.33ghz etc so mine will not be a direct comparison to your setup. I have win 2000 and I use primarily business software, (Autocad 2000) and it works actually pretty good. I can't imagine it on a slower setup. If you need the odd PC program and can live with it being a bit slower (depends on what you want to run) it may work out alright. VPC is supposed to be around 20-25% faster than previous versions and from what I have seen (comparing to a 1ghz iBook with VPC 5 it is significantly faster. I bought the Powerbook to replace a PC portable that died and so far it has been great. Max the ram in your computer and stay away from XP as they really need a lot of ram etc to run. Win98SE runs maybe a touch faster than win 2000 but either one is good.
