Jag Issues (Ti667)

2002-09-24 Thread Ryan Coleman

1) Takes 15 minutes to get off the boot screen and into a 50%grey,
then X loads in 35 seconds.
2) first install: 6.5 hours on a blank hard drive. Second install 3.5
hours without installing second disc (no printer drivers, additional
applications, etc).
3) Update process to 10.2.1, security updates and iTunes 3.0 took 110
minutes. (No, I have cable).
4) IE loads in 2 minutes, when its nice.
5) Eudora runs fast. It's the only thing that runs right. Which is
helpful since I need my email.

On a lighter note:
9.2.2 loads in 14.3 seconds. IE loads in 2, Office 2001 applications
load in under 1. The only applications that load slowly are
java-based clients.

I want a tech to tell me what is wrong with my book. Not a generic
response but an actual diagnosis. I will run applications on my end
to test if need be. I love X, I am starting to hate this computer,
though.

Without getting my hands on it, no one could likely give you an actual
diagnosis.

The first thing I would try would be to run the Apple Hardware Test
that came with your PowerBook.

Second, I would remove any extra RAM you've installed.

If AHT gives no error codes, I would use OS 9's Drive Setup to Zero All
Data on the drive, then try to install OS X again and see how long it
takes.

My guess is a hard drive problem, but it could be RAM or processor
related as well.

The firewire port is bad and apple knows it. If I had a car I would
drive the 15 miles to the store at Mall of America and give it to
them and have it taken away on location. But I don't.

AHT gives back no errors. Never has with any computer I have had with
problems. I did a complete Zero the first time installed X.2. I
hadn't run X in 2 months at that point.

I removed the extra 256 and tried that the first time, no help. Apple
Store even ran AHT and got no errors when I was last in the store in
late July. I am scheduled to get a new lobo but I cannot afford to
lose the computer for any period of time. If I only had my
certification for these computers I would have apple send me the new
lobo and I would do the install myself.

Also, I am about to go through the 4th power adapter for this computer. UGH!

You'd have to ship it to me to diagnose it. You can't accurately
diagnose a problematic Mac through e-mail discussions. That being said, I
would Run Apple's Hardware test and then Tech Tool Pro. I would also
suggest doing a Nuke and Pave. Zero all data on the drive and do a
re-install. This will take a lng time, but will eliminate a lot of
possibilities.

There is definitely something wrong with your system Ryan. You need to have
it looked at BEFORE something bad happens and you lose important data. I
would guess you have a Hard Disk problem or bad Ram, but it is impossible to
tell without getting my hands on it.

I had to replace the board in a tiBook 500. You don't want to have to do
that in your 667. It took me a full day.

I can assure you Ryan. Yours is an isolated case. I have 2 667's and they
are both running perfectly.
