Internet on Mac Mini- wireless device?
I am living in a place with no internet service, and I'm wondering if I can use one of the wireless mobile devices. I don't think my machine has an Airport card because when I check that on the system it says no information available. The problem is that I don't know if one of those mobile devices will run on a USB hub, and a mac mini only has two USB ports, which are being used for my keyboard and mouse. Is there any way to find out if my machine will take a wireless keyboard and mouse? I bought it from someone on the swap list so i will try to contact him as well. I read somewhere that if I sell a used computer I am supposed to remove the OS before I do. It depends. Some Lists (like LEM-Swap) require to sell the machine with no OS later than the Mac was shipped with, unless you give the original OS discs included. (in other words, not giving away pirated OS copies) IMHO it's pretty much up to you, however. If the OS is the same you got the Macs with, you might as well leave it on. Re: My computer has a strange smell
It is like a melted plastic smell. I had an issue this summer where the machine would overheat and shut itself off (no AC in my apartment, it gets up to almost 90 in here during a hot summer day) so a friend suggested opening the case just a tiny bit to let extra heat escape. The CPU fan is not running. It's moving but it's stuck. But that is not where the smell is coming from. It's coming from the PSU. I got this computer used from someone on the LEM swap list and it has served me well for several years, but maybe it's time to replace it with something a bit newer. My Quicksilver 2002 is slowing down. I'm getting the spinning beach ball more and more often. It's really bad on Facebook but it's happening at other times too. There is often a lag when I type. Re: Mac Mini stuck after it was working
We disconnected the ethernet and started up the computer, then shut it down, plugged the ethernet back in and it's fine. We have a new problem though. We need to run the software update but the previous owner (her uncle) has a password on it and we don't know it, can't get it because he has passed away. Is there a way to bypass it? Or do we have to reinstall the OS? She was going to go and buy Leopard but I told her not to before she adds memory. Has anyone here added memory to a Mini? I've heard it's tricky because it's easy to screw it up. She's only got 256mb on it so I don't think she can run Leopard at this point. The next priority is to get past the password issue. Re: HP Printers not compatible?-was which printer do you like?
Mine is a HP 1210xi all-in-one. It's probably 5 years old. I already knew that scanning isn't supported in Leopard. But then the printer just quit with error messages whenever I try to use it. At this rate I feel it's best to just buy a new printer. It was only about a week ago that they told me that the printer itself won't work on Leopard. I'm leaning towards the Kodak. The ink is inexpensive and I don't need a workhorse printer. I use it to print out images on T-shirt transfer paper to use in my polymer clay work, and I print out game cheat sheets, invoices, etc. If I want a high quality photo I would probably go to Walgreens or someplace. The monitor and internet box are fine, and right now I'm working on my old G3. Thank Goddess I didn't get rid of it! I have a surge protector power strip that's made for computers and peripherals. So do you think the computer is fried or is it just a fuse or something? I've had the power go out while the machine was on and it came back up just fine. This time I had it in sleep mode. I don't know if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance for your help! Re: Which printer do you like?
Wow, I didn't think I'd get so many responses! Thanks so much. I've only had an Epson Stylus years ago and then this HP for the last 5 years or so. Both were inkjet not laser, so I don't know anything about laser printers. I'm not going to be doing a lot of printing. One thing I liked about my old Epson was that you could do a lesser-quality print like a draft which used less ink if you just needed a reference photo or to print out a list. Or were printing out a walkthrough for an adventure game. LOL! I do photos occasionally, and one thing I really want to be able to do again is print my own business cards. I know it's expensive to do it yourself, but I print them up maybe 40 or 50 at a time and I don't need 1000 of them. The HP is a tray feed so I couldn't make them myself because the perforations would break when it went through the rollers and I'd end up with it all screwed up. There are times when my printer will sit for months unused, and then I'll use it several times. So a printer that clogs easily is probably not a good thing. I also can't spend more than about $100. Boy I'm asking a lot, huh? Now that I think of it I need decent photo printing because I do image transfers that I put on polymer clay as part of my artwork. For what I do it doesn't have to be top quality but it at least has to be decent. Which printer do you like?
I have a HP 1210xi all in one that has quit on me. I don't think it's really compatible with Leopard. Anyway, I really like Epson printers but I thought it would be a good idea to ask what you like. I'm on a Quicksilver 2002 933mhz with 896mb ram. Thanks!
