yes, reader, allows you to read the text on how to play the game ect.
And waver lets you hear all the sound effects that are in the games folder.

Of course, ma man. Any of the Mortal Kombat titles, Super Smash Brothers,
Clay Fighter, Fighter's Destiny, Fighting Force, Killer Instinct 2 or Gold,
WWF Warzone and Attitude and Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy, WCW Mayhem,
Dark Rift, and probably some I'm forgetting. Haha. Oh, and all but Super
Smash Brothers Melee and two of the Mortal Kombats are N64 games. I'm, uh,

Hi Ron,
When I baught my last controller from Best Buy I asked to do that. Since
I was blind the store was willing to take the controller out of the box
and let me feel it, and actually feel it in my hands to see somewhat how
it would feel in a game. Obviously, that might very from store to store,
but here in this area at least I am able to get stores to allow me to
feel the purchase.

Hi Richard,
Generally the Logitech line of game controlers range from $20 to $80
depending on what features you are looking for such as wireless, force
feedback, etc. All of the controllers I use are Logitech for the reason
they are pretty good, and cheaper in price than some of the other ones
out there.

Game pads are quite inexpensive. I've seen them as low as 15 bucks. I'm
using a joy stick that cost me 21 bucks and it works great. Wheels are the
most expensive. Depending on what kind ow wheel you buy you can figure from
80 bucks up to around 100 for the top wheel. I'd look around online as you
can find good deals online and I'd call your electronic stores to see what
they sell and the costs.

Shaun does bring up a good point. While many game devices offer
profilers and ways to remap the entire stick, pad, etc they are often

Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racer steering wheels

2006-03-29 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Che,
Read my previous posts on this subject, but some game devices will allow
you to reconfigure the joystick from it's own software. This is a huge
no no. If you reconfigure it by the joysticks configuration tool it
totally screws all other games, and redefines the configurations for
other games.
It is better to leave the joystick itself at the default settings, and
use variables to replace the actual buttons. Use a settings file in the
game which can be edited by hand or supply your own configuration tool
that changes how your game deals with the device not how the device
deals with your game.

Re: [Audyssey] Reader and Waver

2006-03-29 Thread Ryan Conroy
Hello,
These programs are quite simple.
Reader is a program that will allow you to read any game documentation, and
waver is a program that will let you let you listen to the various WAV files
Jim uses in his games...
To use reader, go into the program, and select a game. You will then be given a
menu to choose a game from. After you choose the game, you'll be given the
instructions on how to play it.
As for Waver, you go into the program, and you are given a list of probably
over 500 sound files. Choose one, and then hit the play button which you'll be
automattically brought to on choosing the file. You can replay the files, and
listen to any sound from any game if you have this program installed.
Hope this helps,
Ryan C.

"So you sedate and drown in vain
You've got a pill for every day
A suit and tie to mask the truth
It's ugly head is starting to show through
Sometimes when you're out of rope
The way to climb back up's unclear
The walls you build around yourself
I guess they also keep you here
Are you afraid of what they think?
Whoever 'they' happen to be
Or are you hiding from the scars
Of your own reality?
The monster you're feeding, your lack of perception
The things that you do to fulfill addictions
The light at the end of your tunnel is closing
What is it that you're so afraid of exposing
You'd give it all up
For what's there for the taking
Whatever it takes to keep your hands from shaking
The same things you're thinking might make you feel better
The same things that probably got you here." - Aaron Lewis

Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racer steering wheels

2006-03-29 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Raul,
Basicly, you have the idea. Fortunately, you can replace the physical
value for the button with a variable which holds the button value. That
way if an end user wishes to remap it all they need to do is edit the
joystick configuration file that ships with the game and replace say
value 0, button 1, with button 8, value 7. Either that or the game can
come with a custom configuration tool that manages the joystick settings
file.
Then, when the settings file is read in the program uses whatever value
is found in the configuration file, and writes it to the variable which
holds the place for that button.
In short just use variables which holds the value of the button asigned
to that function that way it is able to be edited outside the program.

Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racer steering wheels

2006-03-29 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Che,
I don't yet have a ff stearing wheel, but I am going to be obtaining one
soon for Raceway.However, I think I can still answer your question.

All game devices including joysticks, game pads, wheels have buttons.
Those buttons are checked by checking the byte[] array of values for
them. Fortunately, for the developer if you want to remap the device
instead of providing the specific value for the button you provide it
with an integer variable that holds the value.
Here is an example.

int btnFire = 0;
int btnJump = 1;
int btnHealth = 2;

if(oJoystick.Buttons[btnFire] != 0)
{
FireWeapon();
}
if(oJoystick.Buttons[btnJump] != 0)
{
Jump();
}
if(oJoystick.Buttons[btnHealth] != 0)
{
SpeakHealth();
}

In this example the button 1, which is value 0, was replaced with the
variable btnFire. You can create your own map function that changes the
values for btnFire, btnJump, btnHealth, etc with different values. By
doing so instead of 0 for btnFire that command might be on button 8
which is value 7.

Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racer steering wheels

2006-03-29 Thread Che
  Hi ya,
  When you say you can control which button enables which function, how is
this done?
  What I am getting at is the possibility of assigning keystrokes to the
wheel buttons, instead of hard coding the buttons, thus enabling the player
to assign buttons to whichever key they wish.
  Thanks,

Wanna know the freakishly stupid thing about the gummy ships? For most of

no problem. I've had to do it enough to know that. Hahaah.

I had forgotten all about the locking system, because I was thinking of the
whole gummi ship thing as well as getting around the various areas while
blind.

And I played that game when I was sightedand could not beat it. lol

2006-03-29 Thread Sylvester Thomas
Hello Che! I also have the Logitech FF Mono wheel. I Love it! When
playing Top Speed I can just assign which button controls each function.
The only one I can't seem to assign a function to is the gear shifter. I
also have the Microsoft Sidewinder F F Wheel, and it works the same way by
assigning each button a function. I use to use it on my old system.

Well, I said it was the perfect question as far as Kingdom Hearts is
concerned. Those who haven't heard of Kingdom Hearts may not understand the
perfectness of the question. Here is the question exactly as I worded it.
I was wondering if the lockon system from the first game is present in this
one. As a blind gamer, it's what I rely on to fight.
In very few words, I told them that I play the game, I like the game, and I
can fight in the game despite my blindness. See, the lockon system in that
game is very convenient for us blind folk. Once you're locked onto
something, every attack you execute and every magical spell you hurl is
directed automatically at your target. Not only that, but if you press the
jump button on its own without specifying a direction, it jumps toward your
target. It enabled me to defeat the toughest of bosses in that game, and I
wanted to make sure I'd still be able to do that. Turns out... I will.

I see your point.
At the same time, somewhere along the line, we may be controled by

They produce games and we have to pay 200 dollars and get stupid
licencing issues.
I aggree we need to get accessible and blind games put together
however I'd be carefull what comercial companies we approach.

I have an old wingman.
Its got ffb, however you have to manually enter in the commands and
positions in a visual profiler.
I got the stick thinking I could use it.
I actually am dissapointed in its performance.
I always turn in circles in any game and never stay straight.
When I go straight I always turn.
The profile is a waste of time and space.

  Right, I could manually assign each button, but the last steering wheel I
bought allowed you to assign keys to the buttons via the steering wheel
software.
  If mose wheels are like this now, that would be a good thing, because I
don't want to lock users into a particular configuration of their buttons

  Does your software allow you to assign keys to your buttons Raul?

I wouldn't go so far as to say I managed to play it. Not in its entirity.
However, to me at least, the fact that I could fight all over the game and
especially in places like the Coliseum, made it worth it for me. I can beat
every boss in that game, including the hidden ones. This I take as an
acomplishment, as I know sighted people who can't beat Sepheroth. And so,
I'm proud. Haha.

Hello Chea. I have the Logitech FF Mono wheel. The way I understand it
though is you assign the functions of the game via the button numbers.

[Audyssey] One Small Step

2006-03-29 Thread Brandon Cole
Hi there folks.
Everyone's opinion on the subject of letting the big commercial companies know
of us Blind Gamers is well documented, so I am posting this message to further
that documentation. I believe that anything that hints at our blind gaming's
existence, no matter how seemingly minor, is a step in the right direction.
Therefore I would like everyone to know, especially those interested in console
games, that I submitted a question during the live Kingdom Hearts 2 Video
Review hosted by Gamespot. As far as Kingdom Hearts goes, the question I
submitted was the perfect question to let them all know that blind people play
this game, if only a little. They actually addressed my question during the
show, as I'm sure they found it interesting. In fact, I quite enjoyed the
reviewers reaction. I got a "wow!" At any rate, I just thought some of you may
be interested. The video can be watched by visiting
http://www.gamespot.com
and searching for Kingdom Hearts 2, then clicking on the game title when it
appears in your results, then clicking on Videos under the game's heading. From
there, the video review is easy to find. I hope this interests a couple people,
as I intend to throw more little tiny things like this in there every now and
then. The first step to getting commercial companies to care about the blind is
to let them know we exist. Certainly this isn't a direct approach, but Gamespot
deals with the big gaming folk all the time. If Gamespot knows about us, they
may shortly after. If this doesn't interest you in the slightest, thanks anyway
for your time. Hahah.
Sincerely,
Brandon

[Audyssey] shadow president

2006-03-29 Thread allan thompson
Hi,
Has anyone ever played shadow president president? It was a game that placed
you as the president of the USA and you would go thru diffrent conflicts with
other countries, mostly politically.
You would control trade, economics, tax and other policies with other
countries as you dealt with the USSR and the whole cold war situation.
You could even send in troops and guerrillas and other special troops to other
countries in order to forment revolution to bring about democracy in those
places.
It was a great game, had very little need for graphics and it could be
translated I believe into a game pretty easily.
Anyway, just something to talk about
