[Audyssey] I was informed (star wars)

2006-05-05 Thread Chris Frahm
My friend Adam, who prides himself in being a massive star wars officionado,
though he claims to like trek and I don't know if he's teasing me or not but he
won't believe that Worf was in most of the seasons for DS9 (man that sentence
was autrocious...a run on if I ever heard of one! sorry!)
At any rate, he says there's never been a wookie jedi so why make one? I said
somone will write it in the books eventually...or you could break new frontier
and have The **FIRST** ever wookie gedi therefore pioneering into the universe
of Lucus and enriching it. He says I have to ask George before any of that.
*laughs*
At any rate, I am at least writing his opinion downhe's sighted and doesn't
have the internet and wouldn't play so this doens't really bring to bear but I
wanted to know if you agree or nott.
*chuckles*

Re: [Audyssey] skypecasts

2006-05-05 Thread shaun everiss
I don't like the comercial interfaces either.
The sounds are good but you can't make your own schemes.
I have thousands of sounds better than the stuff skype has.
I would also like a sound for when someone picks up a call or you
answer a call.
Think of what a sttng scheme would be like.

There actually was a wookiee jedi in the young jedi knights series named

If anyone knows of a JAWS friendly way to play chess online, let me know?
Thanks. I know that it can, and is, done in the chess parlor of

A program is either accessible or it isn't. Scripts may make a program
easier to use, but they do not make it accessible. If scripts can be made
to use a program, then you can use the program without the scripts.

It has been my experience not to take everything blind people say as gospel.
Many of them don't like to learn to use a program. If it doesn't work the
way they think it should, they declare it inaccessible. I always try
everything, regardless of what i read on lists, as the information is not
always entirely accurate. *smile*

Re: [Audyssey] skypecasts

2006-05-05 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Friendly moderator's nudge here. When I replied to the original forward
I was hoping it would spark discussions on whether using skypecast for
our game conferences is an option. I'm not really interested much in how
accessible the program is or not since we all have different
hardware/software and different computer skills. So, let's either just
talk about whether we want to move in that direction for the game chat
which I've heard hardly anything on, or let's close the topic.

2006-05-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi.
Well, I can safely say your friend Adam doesn't know what he is talking
about. the Star Wars New Jedi Order, NJO, books has a Wookie Jedi in it.
If he is only going by movies and then he is far behind on Star Wars
info. There is several Star Wars triligies in books, and there is much
more to the story than the 6 movies reveal.

Hi David.
lowbacca also apears in the New Jedi Order books as well. If I am not
mistaken doesn't he get knocked off in Star By Star?
That book was probably the best and worst of the New JediiOrder books.
Mainly because every time you turned around many of the Jedi were
getting whiped out. That included miner and main characters. Nuts!
We won't even talk about Vector Prime. Those who have read it know why.

Re: [Audyssey] Jedi Strike was u s a game titles

2006-05-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi.
Um... No. This is a first person perspective game? That is from the
players perspective. Not a movie.
As I had mentioned before it is largely going to draw upon past Lucas
Arts games to construct the new game with it's own adventures and twists.
Please, let's get off the cute and cuddly kick. Smile.
This is going to be a high energy action game with allot of saber
fighting, whiping out enemy troops, sneeking around, breaking in to
rooms, you name it.

Re: [Audyssey] game hyubrids

2006-05-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi.
This has been discussed many times before, but the main reason there
aren't many audio games with graphics is there is no one sighted around
to do the graphics, and we can not pay to have someone do them.
Even if we did get the graphics there is a massive problem with testing
to make sure the graphics engine works correctly. We can't see it so
debugging the graphics engine would largely have to be done during testing.

One very important part of the Starwars universe is the concept that
the Jedi does the minimum violence necessary to achieve a greater
good. Your game could include a system for tracking excessive
violence and at a certain point, the character has turned to the dark
side and is susceptible to manipulations by the lord(s) of the Sith.

I suppose that technically Worf was in most of DS9. He was in seasons

Now, we should get back to gaming. This includes me. I'm gently slapping

Re: [Audyssey] Jedi Strike was u s a game titles

2006-05-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi.
That is true, and one reason I am looking at alternitive ways of
disabling an enemy. For example, you might want to use hand to hand
combat like punching and kicking the individual to knock him her out
rather than pulling out your light saber and killing him/her off. That
is if preservation of life matters to the player.
The other angle is using the force to confuse or distract an enemy. This
might allow you the chanse to slip through an area undetected, but
however that power could be horrably abused. For example if you distract
them and then use the light saber to kill them that spells more of dark
side tactics then one a real Jedi would use. While they are distracted
they are not a threat, and killing them at that point would be, well,
devious.
I am also adding, per user request, dark side powers. Understand though
by using them you will hurt your game scoring, and alter events in your
players life.

2006-05-05 Thread Richard Bennett
Hey Lukas, thanks for the well wishes. I have to give credit to my partner,
he came up with the idea behind the game, and we both decided to let me
handle the audio, and I had no qualms with letting him handle the visual
portion of the game, since I can't see the pictures, lol. I mean after all
the graphics are only gonna be in 2D, but that is what the book is teaching.

you know, I've always been deeply interested in any accessible game related

Re: [Audyssey] strategy games

2006-05-05 Thread Che
  Hi Charles,
I have played with those guys on ftp before.
Most of them use a physical chess board and simply relay their move to the
other person. This works quite well, and can be done with messenger or any
other text chat program.
I can tell you from personal experience, the guys on ftp are very good and
if you are new to chess, they will wipe the floor with you with no remorse.
I reccomend KChess if you are looking for an excellent and accessible
chess program, though online play is not an option as of the version I have
at least.
  Good luck.

The strat-o-Matic company only does American Major sports.

 The audio instructions for the
 Strat o Matic Instructions Jukebox
Will help you along with learning the games. I have just downloaded to
playball.ws a file that is two hours long. I still needed to write the
blurb for it in the jukebox.

The strat o Matic football had a big break through in making it
 accessible,
that allow me to work with it. I was able to find software that even
 helps
Jaws to make the play calling a snap with
Hot Spot Clicker. This was the only game that needed a third party
software. The good folks who created and improved Hot Spot Clicker are
blind programmers who developed the tool to help with those new types
 of
graphical buttons and such that Jaws has overlooked. The developemnt
 of
Jaws recently has gone away from making applications accessible to
 doing
things on the net Daisy books. Hot Spot Clicker tool is for
 applications,
but it does help in gaming as well.

I am not a first class Jaws script writer, but what I have done so far
 the
games with Strat I am proud of and willing now to share my work with
 others,
so they too , can play Sports Sims. Where you can replay seasons from
 the
past. Replaying the 1985 football season to relive the Bears
 Championship
season. I have also recently purchase the 1985 Basketball season to
 replay
the season and coach a rookie name Jordan. Relive the 1980's Oylimpic
Miricle. Right now I am in a draft for the 1937 season in my net
 league.

The Basketball game is nearly completed in making it access to play.
 And
 the
audio instructions will also go into the
Strat o Matic Instructions Jukebox. The Jukebox will also allow you to
 hear
the audio and save it to your hard drive. The Jukebox will include
downloaded files of the startup kit for baseball and the Jaws config
 files
 to make the games accessible.

There is still a way to go in making the games even more accessible by
 ease
of use. I want to not just make them accessible, but easier to use.
 By
cutting down on the movement of Jaws with frames and such. I have also
 been
working on Voice recognition with the baseball game. This has been
 successful and interesting.

It may be something to check into. My partner for the class may want to work
with me and put out some games like this, I'm not sure. I know the reason I
am not going to mess with graphics is obviously because I can't see them,
and I wouldn't want work that is not done properly or as close to perfect as
I could get it. But others may want to mess with graphics, just not me, lol.

so does this mean that we will be able to become part of the dark side and
fight for the dark side? I sure do hope so, that excites me and makes me
want this game almost as bad as raceway. Tom, I sure do hope that you are
going to allow us to become the dark side if we chose to become dark. Also
what else should the force be used for if you want to be dark besides
confusing your opponents memory and then "bam" the enemy is dead, man I

[Audyssey] Chess for the blind

2006-05-05 Thread Che
You can find out about K Chess at:
http://www.arkangles.com/kchess/

I bought KChess Elite myself, but they have different versions at
different prices.
The guys in the chess parlor on FTP are very helpful for the beginner
chess player.
You can use the KChess program to keep track of moves if you play against
someone online, but I highly reccomend you get a chess set for the blind
from Ann Morris, or any other vendor of blind products, as having a board in
front of you allows you to feel the pieces and get a good overview of the
board.
There are also chess lessons in audio format out there that you can track
down and listen to.
  Good luck,
  Che

[Audyssey] GMA tank commander

2006-05-05 Thread Chris Frahm
First mission:
I get to the bridge and I don't know how to end my mission. It says "bridge
appointment" and "bridge" I think I killed everything but it says "warning
collision course" andI don't know what to do so I tried blowing up the bridge
with my gun 'cause maybe it was some sort of enemy and I got destroyed.
How do I end my mission?
Thank you for all your help!

Re: [Audyssey] GMA tank commander

2006-05-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Chris.
You end the level by crossing the bridge. You have to do it just right
or you will hit the bridge abutment, the pillers, that hold the bridge up.
It is pretty easy to cross it, but you have to be in the right sector
and facing the correct direction to do it. Smile.
Do not blow up the bridge. That will end the game faster than anything.

the thing is a bridge abutment.
if you don't run just right you will have problems.
use your x key, do not always trust your shortrange scanners.
ANd be warned you may have to finetune, the correct way accross the
bridge is a little off north.

I should also add that if you are not lined up then back off and try again.
I recomend that after blowing up the artilary to go east straight to
the woods till woods are 50 meters away.
Then turn till you get the bridge and it should be 800 meters away.
I should warn you that you can manover close range type, but its
really hard to do it so don't.

Re: [Audyssey] Jedi Strike was u s a game titles

2006-05-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Richard.
Let us just say I am strongly considdering the dark side angle
carefully. The mainstream Star Wars games do this split all the time.
Usually, the include Civilians and other non-combatants in the game
which you kill to get dark force powers and points.
If you pick the light side you gradually get force skills, and force
points. If you pick the dark side you rapidly gain points and skills,
but usually kill the current bad Sith lords only to replace them and
take there place and rank.
Actually, there is other orders of Dark Jedi besides the Sith. I am
wondering if I should include any of them.
Of course, that could be in a different game where you play a Dark Jedi
and attemp to move up through the ranks, kill other orders, and try and
become the greatist of dark Jedi.

I like that idea as well of having a dark sith game as well as the force
jedi game. either as a separate game or as 1 huge game. If I was better at
game programming, I would offer to help in anyway, but am not that developed
yet, but know that the offer is out there for when I get better.

I really hope to go dark just so I see what it's like...but to be an honorable

Does one respond with anger and hate? Does one respond with compassion? Great

Re: [Audyssey] Jedi Strike was u s a game titles

2006-05-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi.
Oh, it would have to be two separate gamees alright. The ladder game
would probably follow something along the lines of the Sith Academy type
game.
You would begin the game on the lowest level of the skale, and then face
off in compititions with other dark Jedi warriors for their standings.
You also would slowly gain more powers of deception, force abilities,
grow in anger and hate, and learn to feed off of the dark side energies.
Cool concepts, but out side of Jedi strike.
In Jedi strike I would have to add something more simple like decisions
like rescue or kill a civilian, use force or not use force on an
enemy, and stay away from dark side powers or use them.

Re: [Audyssey] dark side

2006-05-05 Thread Thomas Ward
One thing I am thinking about is in one of the missions you must rescue
a captured team of Jedi Knights that went missing.
I see a possible dark sie decision brewing here. If you rescue them you
are taking a light path. If you whipe out the enemies and deecide since
the Jedis are missing if you kill them you are starting to turn to the
dark side.
At some point in the game I can imagine you can trade in your old Jedi
light saber for a SITH saber.

Oh, yeah?
Well, you would love having or building up to some of the dark side
powers of dark Jedi. Everyone knows about the Force lightning, but that
is only seen on higher level masters.
There are quite a few other skills such as bending the minds of others
to their will, force lightning, killing through telepathy, force rage
which makes them able to fight on through total rage, steeling others
force energy, etc...
I am not sure however how many dark force powers I can squeeze in to
this title, but is an idea for future ad ons.

Oh, man!
A duel sith saber? In the right hands those are awesome weapons. Darth
Maul just about kicked both Obi-Wan's and Qui-Gan's butt single
handedly with one of those babies.
It is a shame not more dark lords cary those things.
In a game that would be especially hard to beat. They would have two
points of attack and block.

Yeah, and wielding two sabers would be interesting. I thought that was
cool when Anican did it in Attack of the Clones. To bad it didn't work
for him. Of course he was biting off more than he could chew at the time.
Anyway, back to topic. With different styles of sabers means different
tactics and styles of using them. I would imagine the more dificult the
saber construction the more skilled the character would have to be.
We have long light sabers, medium sized ones, and short ones. Then, you
have twin blade and duel blade jobes. Presents all kinds of fighting
advantages and disadvantages for each one.

Re: [Audyssey] dark side

2006-05-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Richard!
Man you are missing out on some good books. Do yourself a favor and read
some of the Star Wars triligies. They have added allot of new main
characters, and the movies only scratch the serface of what is there in
book form.
One thing you might want to catch on to early on is some of the Star
Wars history is not just in books. They kind of have to create history
for the games and comic books which adds to the Universe as well.
For example, when Mara Jade was introduced in the Thrawn triligy she had
been trained by Emperor Palpatine in the dark arts, and was sent on a
mission to kill Luke Skywalker. However, she was turned, and her
character fell in to a more generalised roll.
Next thing I know Lucas Arts came out with the game Mysteries of the
Sith where you get to play Mara Jade, in the game and suddenly she is
now a full fledged Jedi Knight. Kind of came out of know where.
The books and especially the Star Wars comics picked up her status as a
Jedi and she makes it to Master in the books and comics, and winds up
meried to Luke Skywalker after all. Grin.

Not only that who knows if and when the second game would come out.
After alot of what we are jawing about right now is more or less
speculations at this point.
I'm doing well to think about how to write up my first SW game. It would
be easier to use an existing game like Dark Forces II or Mysteries of
the Sith as a basis, and copy it, but then it would be what most people
don't want a blind man's version of an old game.
I know when working on Monty I ocationally get messages about why am I
working on an old game. Why not do something original yata, yata, yata.
I think many blinks seam to forget most blind gamers haven't even had
the chance to play the originals let alone the new version for the blind.
Sie. That is life.
