[Audyssey] support needed

2007-12-20 Thread william lomas
hello to all

i have written the following to hasbro limited int he UK
bopit download i feel needs to be altered, and please if anyone agrees
with my below letter in the UK, write to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
event he americans should push for it as this is a step back, not
forward. i ahve now had to purchase a bop it extreme 2 to satisfy my
bop it hunger lol

hello

as a blind fan of hasbro products, i am extremely disappointed in the
way the bop it download is played out.
firstly i was told via the hasbro company, that the colours, yellow
and green, were not utilized in solo modes. to my delight however,
when they were needed in level 4 of the bopit download product, they
were voices, and i was able to figure out, which side of the bop it
controler was yellow and which therefore, was green
however the complications have arrisen when level five and six are
attempted to be played
As a totally blind player, how can i detect if a different control has
been lit up when another one is announced, thus prompting me to do
nothing
for example if i hear spin it, i automatically reach for spoin it, but
if pull it lit up, it is my understanding that one hears, spin it, but
has to miss that turn as something else has lit up

this now makes the game, from this point on virtually unusable which
to e is discriminatory as all of the other hasbro bop it generations
have been completely and utterly accessible
granted, we can play levels seven to ten respectively, as they mirro 1
to 4 levels but in sound, no difficulties are encountered there
However of course levels 11 and 12 will play a sound and possibly,
though i assume this is a random timer, light up another control on
the body of the unit

may i suggest, a possible update to the bop it firmware that one can
download
and this should not be too hard to implement and in my view, make the
game even more of a challenge fore a sighted colleague

have it whereby in levels 5 and six, one has to do the opposite of the
command voiced
so if you hear pull it, you ahve to spin it, bop it remains as bop it,
twist it can be flick it for example, these are just suggestions
i feel that this can be easily achieved and would thus mean that,
although i feel i am stepping backwards now and getting the bopit
extreme 2, which in my view having a score of 250 is no where near as
compettative and challenging as 1000, will suffice for now, until an
alternative arrangement can possibly be made to enable a blind person
or visually impaired, to complete this bop it download, if played solo
i am displeasured by the fact that up to level 4 we have no
difficulties but as mentioned, from level 5 6, 11 12 and maybe the
final three levels 13 to 15 respectively, we can't play and if we
can't complete this game in solo mode i see no virtue in continuing to
play
i do hope you have find my ideas constructive, and i'd be interested,
when time permits as the holidays are fast upon us, to recieve a
response
i'd be happy to test out the idea i have outlined if it were
implemented, and if indeed one can update the firmware of the device
to alter game play, as would other united kingdom based blind friends
of mine
thanks, william lomas

I got the Say What game for Christmas--early!
It's a great game, and totally accessible.
It has three skill levels (easy, medium, and hard,) and four games--timed
mode, guess mode, timed extreme mode and guess extreme mode. When you
start, you can select up to four players (I think it's four,) and the skill
level and game. Then, you press start--a big round button very easy to
differentiate from the rest.
There are hundreds of phrases, and depending on how well you do the
difficulty increases. On the easy skill level it gives you more time in the
next round if you missed one. Usually, there are five rounds unless there's
a tie between two players. In timed mode, the time starts at 30 and goes
down 5 seconds per round. In guess mode, you get 5 guesses and they
decrease by 1 per round. That's not a whole lot of time and guesses to
unscramble that phrase.
Yeah, I know, you're just dying to ask me, "How do you play it!"
There are five balls--well, half balls anyway. You have to keep the game
put up in a safe place so you don't lose any of them. Anyway, when you
start a scrambled phrase is spoken--and if it comes from a song it is often
sung. Then, you rearrange the balls until you get them in the right order.
I don't mean that you simply press ball-shaped buttons, you physically take
balls off and put them in new places until you've got it right. It takes
time, but if you're stuck there's a hint button you can press a
s well. The hints tell you where the phrase came from--music, pop culture,
movies and so on.
This game is a great game to play alone, but an even better party game
provided you can keep all the balls together and on the game. The only
thing I would change is that the quicker you solve the puzzle, the more
points you would get. In the game, you always get one point per unscrambled
phrase. My seven-year-old daughter hates hand-held electronic games. I
guess they bore her, but she asked my wife to get this for her for Christmas
before I ever told her about it, so it's sure to be something you can
share with the whole family.
You can get it at just about anywhere in the states, and there's a sight
called firebox.com that sells it too--just google it.
You can put this in the mag if you want too--I know there are lots of
readers who aren't on the mailing list, and I want everybody to know about
all the games that are accessible.
Enjoy the game!

Re: [Audyssey] Product Security was Keys for my laptop

2007-12-20 Thread Draconis Entertainment

The recent trend away from DRM in music downloads is a great
illustration. The fact of the matter is simple. Is the loss of sales
from pirates worth severely inconveniencing your loyal and dedicated
customers? In the end, you are troubling far more of the honest folks
than you are stopping dishonest ones. The music industry is learning
the hard way. We believe that in producing keys the way we have,
we're bolstering loyalty in our customers. We applaud Apple for the
lack of activation required in the Mac OS X operating system, and
their dedication to DRM-free music. Other music download sites are
following suit. It is, for all the reasons above, and all of TOm's
reasons below, the right thing to do.

Valid arguments, but I recently saw a list of pirated games a member of
our list here had, and it was basically all the major accessible game
titles. For me, protecting my intellectual property is worth the slight
inconvenience to myself as a developer, and it only takes a few seconds to
send out another key to a customer. Additionally, RR spits out a config
file that allows players to move their settings from one key to another, a
system that should work for any accessible game, greatly minimizing the
aggrivation from the customers standpoint.
For you folks on list that use and distribute pirated games, please take a

[Audyssey] Product Security was Keys for my laptop

2007-12-20 Thread Thomas Ward
Hello Che,
Yes, XHEO is a very secure licensing library and product security
system, but unfortunately I was unable to buy it before releasing Monte
do to a lack of cash. I'm still thinking of buying it for future games,
but I also know what customers have to put up with when using hardware
based keys.
For example, I have three computers in my house. I'd like to buy a game
and install it on all of them. If it is hardware locked i either have to
request new keys for each one or buy a copy for each computer which
really isn't that fair or worth it.
Also there is the issue about the developers ability to continue to give
out new keys. Let's say i buy a game from developer x, he works alone,
he gets seriously hurt in a car crash. i need a new key for reason x,
but since the guy is in the hospital or maybe even dead I can't ever
install that game again. That isn't exactly fair either, but the
developer chose that root because some jerks were pirating his games,
and the inocent customers have to pay the price.

Re: [Audyssey] Sales figures was: Loquendo voices

2007-12-20 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Che,
Glad to hear Rail Racer is beginning to pick up sales. Yeah, 220 isn't a
fantastic amount, but it is a reasonable number seeing this list only
has around 200 to 250 subscribers at any given time. The Audyssey
Magazine is likely read by more than that, and it is difficult to say
how many people you have reached that decided not to buy the game for
one reason or another.

[Audyssey] Game Sales was Loquendo voices

2007-12-20 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Bryan,
I think you hit the nail on the head. The biggest and most fundimental
problem for blind developers is general awareness of accessible games
for the blind. One time on the agdev list we tried to figure out how
big the blind gaming market is right now. Tops we guessed around 2000
current blind gamers world wide. That is a drop in the bucket of the
potential market size.
Another fundimental problem we face is trying to figure out how many
blind potential customers have computers. I can say from personal
experience I have met some blind people out there who didn't even know
about screen readers like Jaws, Window Eyes, etc let alone accessible
games. They basically attended some school, live at home with mom and
pop, and are isolated from the rest of the blind comunity. It makes you
wonder how many others are out there in total ignorence of the
accessibility revolution going on around them.
We also have the age factor to consider. It is a well known fact that
the largest majority of blind and low vision world wide are elderly.
This might seam stereotypical, but elderly people might be more
interested in the kitchens Inc games or the All In Play games. You might
see an 80 year old woman playing Black Jack, Monopoly, Yatzi, but it
seams unlikely they would by Shades Of Doom, Tank Commander, or
something along that line.
Finally, even though there might be a potential of 2000 customers that
will hear about your game there is no garentee they will like it. I
admit I don't like every accessibl game out there, and my own collection
is pretty small. As a result of having been sighted before I tend to buy
or play games that show a similar degree of quality that I am use to
such as the GMA Games, Rail Racer, Troopenum, etc. That happens to be my
reason for not buying allot of games.
Someone else might not like a game because it is too violent, it doesn't
have enough replay value, it isn't exciting enough, bla. Basically, they
don't like it for one reason or another and the game company loses sales.

For what it's worth. I did not take your message negatively either. The
thing is, people reading e-mail cannot and should not attempt to decide
what the mood or tone of the person writing is. Let's face it, reading
e-mails from someone is not at all like actually talking to them. Just
 my 2 cents worth.

Re: [Audyssey] Keys for my laptop

2007-12-20 Thread Che
I use hardware based keys for the simple reason it is much harder for
pirates to crack your software and distribute free copies of your games.
I offer replacement keys in a timely manner for those that have hardware
failures, but this has only occured a handful of times out of 200 plus
copies sold.
I know that there are lots of pirated versions of developers hard work
floating out there, and I wanted the most secure path available, because if
I findRail Racer being distributed as a crack, I am going to unleash one
very dedicated lawyer and pay whatever it takes to find the culprits.
Despite the best efforts of some talented jerks, as far as I know, RR has
not been cracked, and that is a good thing for all of us.
If I were a new developer about to release my first commercial game, I
would seriously consider going with a hardware based serial key system,
there will be a few inconveniences, but for me, having a secure product is
well worth it.

Wow. Now that's cool. If only someone could comme up with a way of modifying
them to work with Windows without detracting too much from the nostalgia. As
I said, finding Echo sound files has been really tough. I remember the old
typing game where the letters would drop down the screen and the voice would
get higher. At the time the high voice used to scare me but now it's just
cool.

[Audyssey] Sales figures was: Loquendo voices

2007-12-20 Thread Che
With a good bit of holiday sales, Rail Racer is somewhere around the 220
unit mark right now, not spectacular, but not terrible either. The biggest
marketing push for RR has come from word of mouth, as people realize there
is a great deal of replay value in RR with the online tournaments and
ability to create your own tracks to share with friends. Also, we have some
excellent volunteers arranging tournaments, handling new tracks and keeping
the RR community flowing.
I think in the future it is going to be very important to have that online
social aspect of gaming to have a successful long term shelf life, as most
games just don't have a lot of replay value for the most part.
I don't think anyone is ever going to make a living selling accesible
games, there just aren't enough blind gamers out there, but for a hobby that
brings in a little extra cash, it isn't bad.
  Happy and safe holidays,
  Che

2007-12-20 Thread Bryan
That's why I made the little skit that I did. The very end of it involves
Dectalk singing the melody for Taps, and I spent most of the morning trying
to get that part right. Then I just used Windows Sound Recorder to mix all
the files together (I'd do it with Gold Wave but I can't uite figure out how
that works), and saved it as a wave. Needless to say, dear ol' Sammy's
feeling pretty depressed.

Re: [Audyssey] Other ideas for Monopoly

2007-12-20 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Tom,
To use pounds or credits in Monopoly instead of dollars,
It would require Jim to replace quote dollar sign quote with a variable text
that could be loaded from the external text file of properties.
This would take some time but I would also prefer different chance and
community chest cards too.
But they would take much longer to add since they are hard coded in the
game.

Re: [Audyssey] Keys for my laptop

2007-12-20 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Liam,
Yeah, it is not an easy choice by any means. At first I had plans to go
the hardware id root, and then my laptop died, I picked up a used laptop
cheap, and discovered Microsoft screwed me over the hardware id and
product activation in Vista. That seriously changed my mind about the
fairness of hardware based product keys. It is nice and secure, but
unfair if you legally paid for the software, and the developer in
question decides to stop offering keys or asks too much money to get a
replacement.
In a business small as ours hardware based ids is a major hastle. I am
sympathising with Phil trying to contact each customer that failed to
enter his or her hardware id so they can get their keys. That's more
work than I want to put up with personally.

Hi Dark,
Lol! Yeah, a user would have to be careful to use the basic format of
the card, but just change the names of things. It would be especially
helpful if the person editing the cards new what the cards actually
said. For example, I have the Star Wars board and the Lord of the Rings
and Star Trek boards so I can certainly look up the original cards and
put them in the game correctly.

Re: [Audyssey] recording games being played?

Hi Gary,
I haven't seen those issues with Real Player you have, but I am running

Anyway, when recording my trailers and games I really like using

Re: [Audyssey] Keys for my laptop

2007-12-20 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
Exactly. USA Games also doesn't offer hardware based keys because it is
both a hastle for everyone, and I personally can relate to the end user
experience of having a new key generated every time you buy a new
computer, do hardware upgrades, etc.
For example, back in February I purchased Windows Vista after it was
released. i installed it on my computer, and by May that computers
motherboard bit the dust. I called microsoft and explained the problem,
and their answer was buy a new product key which was almost the price of
the fricken software new.
I ended up shopping around, found Vista on sale, for less than the
product key replacement, and had to start over from scratch just because
my hardware failed, and I couldn't register it on my replacement laptop
without a new key.

[Audyssey] bop it download possibly not accessible.

2007-12-20 Thread Yohandy
Well I've just found out some depressing news concerning the newly released
bop it download. All isn't lost though. I may have an idea. here's info from
the wiki article:
Bop It Download offers only a single "Solo" mode, plus several multi-player
options. However, this differs from the original game in that it is composed
of a series of "levels", each one of which plays according to different
rules:

. Level 1 plays the same as the original Bop It: a voice is used to call out
the required command, and only the "Bop It", "Pull It", and "Twist It"
controls
are used.
. Level 2 enables Spin It.
. Level 3 enables Flick It.
. Level 4 enables Colour Bop It - the central "Bop It" control is coloured
yellow on one side of the device and green on the other, and the voice will
specify
one of these colours, requiring the user to press the button on that
particular side.
. Levels 5-6 enable Bop Lights - every command given is given by both the
spoken command and a light on the corresponding control. However, sometimes
the
wrong control is lit, in which case the player must do nothing on that beat.
. Levels 7-12 repeat the sequence of levels 1-6 except that commands are
given by sound effects (as in Beat Bop) rather than spoken voice, with the
exception
of the "Yellow" and "Green" commands for the central button.
. Level 13 enables all the features of level 12 plus commands may be given
by spoken voice or sound effect, randomly selected.
. Levels 14-15 are identical to level 13, but are endurance levels. Level 14
requires 250 inputs in a single session to complete; level 15 requires 500.

Hi Kuvvosh,
If I exclude the pre-ordered customers only 25 have purchased
Montezuma's Return 1.0 directly from USA Games. Though it is still early
and it is hard to say how many new customers I will get in the future.
As for Rail Racer I don't know Che's current status, but I do recall him
saying on list that only about 150 customers had purchased the game at
the time he wrote that on list. He hoped to sell at least 200 units, and

It is definitly a bit depressing seeing how much work goes into one of

Re: [Audyssey] Other ideas for Monopoly

2007-12-20 Thread Thomas Ward
Hello Jim,

Quote
the amounts are very much hard coded and I would not want to even try to
have a conversion
for different currency amounts. So I don't know if it would make much
sense to have
the amounts as they are with a different currency word.
End quote

In my personal experience the amounts or prices of things in Monopoly
never change. The only thing that changes is the type of currency being
used.
My wife and i have like four Monopoly sets, and all of them use the same
prices but the currency is usually called something else. In my Star
Wars and Star Trek versions they call the currency credits, and in the
standard Monopoly dollars.
So I personally see nothing wrong with having a question pop up asking
the player if he or she wants to use dollars, pounds, euros, credits,
while leaving the price values as they are.

Hi Katie,
Yes, I think I know what is happening. Mud Splat is a .Net based game.
In order to make it operate you need the .Net Framework as well as
Managed DirectX 9 for .Net.
You can download both of these requirements from my web site

Re: [Audyssey] Mud splat problem, Please help!

2007-12-20 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Katie,
The .Net Framework is a nnew technology from Microsoft with allot of
shared libraries and runtime modules which allows developers to write a
program for several different versions of Windows and devices without
allot of changes in the program to support them all. For example, the
.Net Framework is being used to write applications shared between cell
phones using Windows Mobile and pcs running MS Windows XP or higher.
Another place where it is being used is new games using .Net technology
can be shared between a pc and the Microsoft XBox 360.
Anyway you can get both .Net Framework 3.0 and DirectX 9 from my web site

Re: [Audyssey] Loquendo voices was Quick question

2007-12-20 Thread Bryan
It is rather depressing. But you have to figure that there probably aren't
nearly as many people out there as we think who acually know that audio
games even exist. Up until about three years ago I'd pretty much given up
the idea of games for the blind. The ones I remember playin were for the old
Apple 2E and GS computers and they required that Echo synthesizer in order
to run properly. Anybody remember that thing? I've been looking for sound
clips of it but haven't had much luck. True the speech quality is crap, but
since it was the first synth I was ever exposed to I've got sort of a soft
spot for the thing.

Yeah, so do I. The Scansoft voices are really the best voices out there

Hi,
They probably have a special licensing fee going that allows Code
Factory to use Loquendo. After all Mobile Speak is a hot product for us
blinks with cell phones, and Loquendo guys know that. The Loquendo
developers probably take in a chunk of the earnings for every copy of
Mobile Speak purchased for a cell phone.
For example, let's say Code Factory sells 1000 units of Mobile Speak for
$150 each. let's also say that Loquendo is aloud $50 of every purchase.
If you do the math Code Factory gets $10 and Loquendo gets $5
just out of that 1000 customers. That is certainly enough money to get a
license for Loquendo to be used in commercial products.
The problem with accessible game developers is that we aren't nearly
making that kind of cash. Right now USA Games has only sold 25 units of
Montezuma's Return , and while the money can buy some stuff it isn't
enough cash to even touch the Loquendo licensing fees.
As I recall Che mentioned he has sold about 150 units of Rail Racer so
even with that whle the cash can buy some stuff it isn't really going to
allow you to licens Loquendo.

 Hi.

Appologies to people if I've asked this before, but last time I
 was in
the middle of a music festival and thus it never got done. I'm at my
parents, on my laptop now, and would like to install some of my
 games. I
stil of course have all the setup files and keys.

I remember people saying that Bsc, Lworks and gma would offer
 extra keys
 for my laptop.

Sinse however I don't want my current keys on my desktop to stop
 working
or be deactivated, what if I had a major crash and had to reinstall
everything? I was wondering precisely what I should ask for, sinse
 it is
very deffinately additional keys I want, and not replacement ones,

all the games are afterall functioning fine, they are just
 functioning
fine on my desktop which is currently about a hundred miles north
 of me.

While I don't think having paid for the games, having extra
 coppies for
my laptop is an unreasonable request, at the same time I would
 rather not
be dishonest about my reasons for wanting extra keys.

so any advice on the etiquette would be good here.

Oh Btw, does anyone know how Klango feel about extra keys? I
 wouldn't
mind installing those as well if possible. It's a shame I can't do
 the
same with X hour, Galaxy Ranger and Lords of the Galaxy, but such is
 life.

Re: [Audyssey] Keys for my laptop

2007-12-20 Thread dark
thanks tom, I know you bought a knew laptop comparatively recently, which is
why i thought you'd be able to give me some advice on this one.

I've sent e-mails to Lworks and Bsc, and will be contacting gma as soon as I
can install one of their games and get the computer's user code. Actually I
really fancy playing gma tank commander right now for some reason.

appologies for continuing pesterment, but what about other devs? Would Phil
mind me having an additional key for Sarah? (I know Gma and Draconis are
okay with this, but as the actual developer of the game it's Phil's
decision).

also, would it be possible to have an additional key for Rail racer? I'm
guessing with the specific online identities thing and other security
arrangements possibly not.

Beware the Grue!

I don't recall how much money the bank starts with, but the bank never goes
broke. If more money is needed, the denomination of the bill is written on
slips of paper. Each player starts with $1,500 as follows: 2 $500's, 2
$100's, 2 $50's, 6 $20's, 5 $10's, 5 $5's, and 5 $1s. No money is under
free parking.

Re: [Audyssey] recording games being played?

2007-12-20 Thread Gary Whittington
Yeah, that is the truth.

I am surprise myself on how much I do use Reel player for now.

Reel player does need a lot of resources and is the biggest complaint about
it while using Jaws also another resource hog.

But now using Vista the response between the 2 is much better. The
revamping of Jaws in version 9 may help too.
When they worked the problems with Microsoft ward may helped Reel player.

Before starting up Reel One Jaws would act like it stopped. But now the
buffing now is much better and getting Jaws talking again again when Reel
player is loaded is only a few seconds.

Charles is a good guy.
One thing I don't like Reel player is when recording in the wav format.
Just dong a say 7 minutes of recording makes the file really large and takes
a good time to download it to a web site.

That's way I offered up Cool Player which I have been looking at lately.
Just search for Cool Recorder on the web and you will find it.
I found Total Recorder and the Total Package OK but getting around the
screen by tabbing or using the mouse takes some figuring out.
While Cool Recorder is just well simpler to get around and figure out.
My best guess that Cool Recorder is not eye candy as other recorders but
just simple which is good for our text readers.

Re: [Audyssey] Keys for my laptop

2007-12-20 Thread Draconis Entertainment

Draconis keys are not tied to hardware. You are free to install our
games using existing keys on your laptop or other devices, and do not
need new keys when upgrading your system. We believe that tying
software keys to hardware is too much of an inconvenience to
customers. For this reason, however, if you lose your key, we will
charge you to replace it. Our policy is currently that a replacement
key costs 25% of the normal retail price of the game.

Thanks Charles

I could not remember the exact rule and the total number of houses and
hotels.
Good Job.
Do you remember how much the bank has in cash? Smiles.
During play with Free Parking starting at 1000, seen the winner get close to
getting a total of 10,000.
The bank could run out of money and is there a rule for that?

Re: [Audyssey] Monopoly suggestions

2007-12-20 Thread Gary Whittington
Yes, the buying and selling spreads could be tricky.

A few if statements.
But it can be done.
One you get the routine mappded out in a flow chart.
The routine can be applied to the Monopolies.
All monopoly will have a High property and a low property cost value.
The for name sakes Middle property which most other Monopolies have.
First find how many house on each.
Use total to compare to type of Monopoly. Type A being 2 or type B having 3
properties. Attaching Colors to the Monopoly type should do it as a global
var.
The A set houses is a max of 10 while B is 15.
That gives you the subset values.

So situation1 If more houses being bought then can fit.
When the Max is met quit.

Well I could go on but I think you get the idea.

I do see the problem is the spread is not say 2 houses on the High 1 on the
middle and 2 on the low.
The B type Monopoly would be the same code just with out the Middle
property.
So it be better to write first the three levels first then remove the middle
for (A) set.

So you need to compare the three values to find which may be the property
with the least amount of houses.
Is high > Middle then is High > Low then true
Else is Middle > low then true
Else Low is true.

now Just put cycles and squares around the above. Smiles there is your flow
chart.
Well really I guess the above routine would be used for selling then buying
but just replace the (>) for the (<).
Then through in the checking the cash for buying and selling.
Once the shell is made the names of High can get be New York Avenue what
what ever generic variable that is New York
And so on with setting up the routine shell variables.
When creating shells variables they must return their values back to the
main value for New York houses now have three houses where one was added.
I guess just use the same code for adding and removing houses with only
changes to the routine shell names.

Well that's how I pitched the flow chart in my mind on how it would work by
adding the quick option to the game.

Re: [Audyssey] Loquendo voices was Quick question

2007-12-20 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
They probably have a special licensing fee going that allows Code

Re: [Audyssey] Other ideas for Monopoly

2007-12-20 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,
I have to agree that not being able to add custom tocans, money, and
cards is my only major complaint with Jim's Monopoly. It doesn't quite
have the same feel as playing the real boards if you can't totally
recreate the cards, money values, and tocans for each board.
I fully realise that when Jim made this game he was probably merely
thinking of the classic Monopoly, but over the years Monopoly has grown
into special movie and tv themes which all have special rules, tocans,
cards, etc that don't fit neatly into Jim's Monopoly engine.
For example, if I was pplaying the Lord Of the Rings board I would
expect a chanse card to say, "Attacked by orcs. Pay 50 gold coins for
every tower, and 150 gold coins for every fortress."
The same card on the Star Wars board should read something like,
"Attacked by Imperial Storm troopers. Pay 50 credits for every hut, and
150 credits for every base."

Re: [Audyssey] Keys for my laptop

Hi Dark,
I can say based on Personal experience BSC and GMA have no problems with
issuing you a second key for your laptop. I did it not that long ago
when I purchased my used Averitec laptop, and wrote BSC and GMA, told
them what I needed, why i needed new keys, and my laptop keys were
emailed the next day to me with no charge.

Hello Gary,
I really don't think Charles was biting your head off about Real Player.
All Charles said is he doesn't use that program, and that was basically
it. I personally couldn't find anything inflamitory in his post.
As for Real Player I agree with you. I use it for allot of stuff, and it
is far better than the Real Player we used 10 years ago.
Anyway, back to gaming.

Re: [Audyssey] Abandoned Games and Tarzan Junior

2007-12-20 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Danie,
Well, first I'd like to point out that none of the Bavisoft games are
abandonware. Just because Bavisoft is extremely slow in producing new
games, and haven't updated their existing games in a while that doesn't
mean the developers have abandoned the games in question.
As far as why most developers don't place their games out there as
abandonware is simple. The minute a developer puts his or her work out
in the public domain as abandonware any new developer could legally take
over development of the project. That would restrict the original
developers rights to continue or hold the copyright to his or her games.
For example, PB Games has abandoned all it's old games. If I wanted to I
could legally make an all new Tarzan Junior game, sell it, and legally
Philip would have nothing to say about it if he wanted to suddenly
change his mind and make a new version himself. Not to mention even if
he did come up with a new version since there is a free version
available to the public there is a good chanse many customers would
simply not choose to upgrade since they have a free version.
Now, as for abandoned games in general sometime in the next month or so
I plan to put up a free games section on my web sight which has games
like Dark Destroyer, Self Destruct, and other abandoned games.

Hi Klaudio,
Before anyone can help you we need you to write down the error message
you recieve when trying to play the game. I know Super Liam doesn't
require DirectX 9 or .Net 3 so that isn't your problem.
If you are playing Super Liam under Vista you have to make sure DirectX
8 for Visual Basic 6 is installed, and launch the game as administrator.
If you are playing it under XP I can't think of any difficulties without
seeing your error message.

Re: [Audyssey] Other ideas for Monopoly

Right!

Hey they do have voices in other languages.
Some SAPPI do come with word pronounce . One could change the word dollar
to nochos or pumpkin seeds.

Shoot I even seen a voice that was not a voice but a dog barking while
reading text.
I guess that was for blind dogs.

I just want to reinstate that it would be up to the game master to have one
lap around the board with out any buying and it don't have to be programmed.
The game master just don't buy or any offers from others to buy.

Re: [Audyssey] recording games being played?

2007-12-20 Thread Gary Whittington
Well the straight recording is fine that way.

Its when mixing.

Say you want only 11 seconds to insert into a mix.

Using a head set you can cut out Jaws from speaking while recording. Now it
may take several attempts to get what you want. So starting over couple
times and doing the Undo, the fluid Gold wave tends to move
the clock along with the record and stop button. That is what I meant by
that.So at times I would have to go find how much time go by. Where did it
go?
Some times Jaws just can not find it and no way to stop the recording.
Smiles but by using the F keys.

Its silly, but when you have more then say three audio cilaps opened that
darn record button and clock starts to move around. I normally hover right
over the Stop button to get as close to 11 seconds as possible. By just
doing the Jaws say word over and over. Normally this is when just add my
voice.

Other recordings I may not want want to hear jaws but do want to record
music.. Setting the echo to none makes you wonder did I hit the right key F
nine. while having typing turned off as well.
One does need to have at least the character mode on to know which F key I
hit. Which means editing what I just recorded.
So it really was not complain about Cold Wave which I use, but just using a
program on the same computer that your recording.
Using 2 computers like Kitchen agreed makes the overall work easier when
editing and monitoring the recorder elapsed times.

Not mad at Chuck, or anything, seeing my Bears lose on Monday night I felt a
need to pull his chin.
Using my spell checker more now so he can't get me back.

Re: [Audyssey] Monopoly suggestions

2007-12-20 Thread Gary Whittington
No problem.

Well I have not recorded while playing Monopoly but do plan on my other
projects.
If you wish to have me record a segment of game play during one of these
sessions I be happy to do so.
This way you can get a feel what is happening and may come up with some of
your own ideas.

I have played the game with family members in an older version and in voice
chat room.
I am consider running tourneys and having the results posted on a web page.
Besides the for the people web site I do have my own voice chat rooms that
could be used as well for game play. So a membership to FTP for a tourney
will not be need or there could be two tourneys.
If interesting in having such a tourney page on your web site let me know
to. Besides the tourney and a recorded sample of how one could play the
game in a voice chat room as a demo on your site I see what I can do.

We did have the ideas of players to race around the board before able to buy
property.

I thought about it a little more and really that can be handled by the game
master.
When players on their first lap on the board the Game master then just says
no when buying properties and no one else able to buy it either.

With the combination of who goes first with the die and the one lap around
the board will produce a random number of starting.
During the one lap around the board when landing on slot to pick cards and
Free Parking is used and the amount of cash a player has when the lap is
completed, gives the start of the game another nice twist.

So really no programming there for a lap around the board is needed.

Smiles I do as a programmer can see the problems of add certain features to
games. So I just added what I thought could be the final touches to the
game.
1 the idea or rule.
2. How it will look in the game or how the rule will work in the game.
3. Why the rule was made and how it needed to be part of the accessible
game.
4. How it can be programmed by setting them up as options or menu items. be

Since the game core runs smoothly putting on the trimmings was the way I had
to think things out before I was able to reply before.

Well so long for now my Draft baseball league starts on Friday may not have
much time to talk to you all.

Hi All.
There's an audio game that I downloaded. It's called mud splat. The game is
from tactile interactive multimedia. If any of you have ever heard of, or
played this game, I'm having a problem.
When I try to run the program, the computer just restarts itself. Has anyone
ever had this happen? All help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: [Audyssey] Monopoly suggestions

2007-12-20 Thread Charles Rivard
Acording to the official rules of Monopoly, there are 12 hotels and 32
houses. Once they are bought, no more can be bought. When a player goes
bankrupt, any houses or hotels he or she owned are turned back in to the
bank and the player receives half their selling price, which is then turned
over to who he or she owes. Those houses and hotels are then available to
remaining players for purchase at full price. I used to play in Monopoly
tournaments in which only official rules were used.

Re: [Audyssey] Other ideas for Monopoly

2007-12-20 Thread dark
Hi Jim.

well I was only talking about the name of the currency, not the amounts,
sinse as you say converting for each board would just be crazy! Besides, for
some utterly weerd reason, the prices in English Monopoly are exactly the
same, accept using pounds and not dollars, (something else I noticed when
playing your game), Eg 500 pounds for mayfaire, the most expensive street
(which I believe is park avinue on the traditional Us board).

I personally am very much in favor of editable text files, I've certainly
used them a lot in the baseball game. and if people are so dim as to not
save a copy of the default text file somewhere else before they start
editing, - well I think it's fairly obvious who's fault it is.

About Rules, if I remember rightly, the no buying first time around is
actually in the instructions for the braille monopoly set I've got, so I'm
not sure about that one. I've seen the money on free parking rule
before, --- even down to insane variations where any supertax or fignes are
placed on the board, and whoever lands on freeparking picks them up (which
can be mad).

another rule we've always plaid, is that if a property is morgaged, wrent is
paid to the bank should anyone land on it, though if any player lands on the
morgaged property and wishes to buy it, they can just as if nobody owned it.

In fact some rules you have in the game slightly surprised me, such as
forcing a player to buy a property when he/she lands on it, and holding an
auction if they don't. Occasionally we'd have auctions or deals if someone
landed on one property that someone else was collecting the set for, but
this certainly wasn't inforced, and if nobody wanted to buy the property
it'd just be passed over. But as you say, Monopoly does seem to vary
according to how the players want to play it.

I deffinately enjoyed the wiki artical on Monopoly, which brought up several
interesting things about the rules, in fact Jim, your games are actually
making me go and learn stuff, sinse I'm getting interested in the origens of
them ;D.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

[Audyssey] Final Feedback on rules of Monopoly

2007-12-20 Thread Gary Whittington
Trying to keep my email short.

Add any feedback you want to this email or your own feedback on the matter.

I don't expect to see all my ideas and feedback I got from others to be add
right away to the Jim's Monopoly.

I did promise Jim my ideas and feedback.
There was a few as we see. The game is near perfection. Thanks to Jim of
building on to the game.
For being a green game at this stage now is a steal or a bargain.
I certainly say its the best Kitchen game.

AS we know Jim, he creates the games to be free.

Right now I am going to suggest my last feedback I got during my time being a
game master on FTP in a full duplex voice chat room where a group of us meet on
Saturday at 3pm ET.

The rule of going out of the game.
When a player has to pay more then their total assists there lost.

In the rules, when a player loses and has houses the houses are removed of the
board and put back in the bank.

This rule was to be sure that enough houses was in the bank that could be sold.
Smiles many times those darn little green houses would get lost and items
around the table would be used when playing with the board game.

A computer version may not need to worry, (Like a computer Worries), about it.

So, there should be a set of houses and a set number of Hotels in the game.
When one or the other is gone out of the bank this falls under the House
shortage rule.

That is my option of the start of the game option as mentioned in previous
emails.

Like the option to take a chance card this option would need only a yes or no
answer.

The game would ask if you want House Shortages..
If Yes, would use the set number of houses and hotels.
If No unlimited houses and hotels.

The rule about House Shortages does take its name from the period of time
Monopoly was created and refined.

After World War 2 there was the term House Shortages was coined for the men
returning from the war.

Even though the rule only comes up during games when there are many players
still in the game and have built on the monopolies.
This gives a strategy to this part of the game.
When houses or hotels come available its best to buy them up before some one
else does. Leaving you the better chance of making money then others.

The Rule to be add was by a friend of my and my explanation why a rule would
make the game when playing as a group to be exactly like the real Monopoly.

Jim Kitchen put a lot of work in the game and its truly wonders and only see a
few things that I suggested today will mostly be the final touches on the game.
It started out as a simple way to pass time playing a simple game of Monopoly.
AS Jim's Golf game it as taken a new dimension as a game that many can play
competitive.
Those who want to play it competitive will want the full rules and options the
game can provide.

As it stands now Jim has a marketable game.
This game is free and I know why and I leave it as it.
Only thing I can say thanks Jim
for providing your free games. As in Monopoly you give us at FTP many hours of
fun.
Jim you could say has a Monopoly on accessible Monopoly and if Jim wishes to
build again on the game with my ideas and feedbacks the more gamers going to
want to play the game.

Again thanks Jim very noble in all your efforts.

Crash

For what it's worth. I did not take your message negatively either. The
thing is, people reading e-mail cannot and should not attempt to decide
what the mood or tone of the person writing is. Let's face it, reading
e-mails from someone is not at all like actually talking to them. Just
my 2 cents worth.

Charles Rivard said the following on 12/19/2007 9:00 PM:

Re: [Audyssey] recording games being played?

2007-12-20 Thread Raul a. Gallegos
What happened to using control-f8 in Goldwave to stop recording? When I
make game recordings, or any recordings for that matter, Goldwave works
great. Because of its massive keyboard commands, I can easily do what I
need without set files.

Re: [Audyssey] Other ideas for Monopoly

2007-12-20 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Dark,

The word dollar is hard coded into the game. I possibly could make an editable
text file that would pick up whatever word that you wanted for the currency,
but all of the amounts are very much hard coded and I would not want to even
try to have a conversion for different currency amounts. So I don't know if it
would make much sense to have the amounts as they are with a different currency
word.

I researched and added all of the tokens that ever shipped with the game.
Don't know about having custom tokens. Maybe I could also put them in an
editable text file. But you would not believe how much more work editable text
files make for me. You know like when people do not edit them correctly and
the game crashes and it is all my fault or at least up to me to fix the problem.

I don't believe that I have ever heard of the no buying on the first trip
around the board. But some of the ways that we played the game as a family
were never real rules and I have heard of several options that people like that
were never in the rules. You know such as money on free parking, not
collecting rent while in jail etc.

I wouldn't even be here if the flux capacitor hadn't broken.

Re: [Audyssey] Monopoly suggestions

2007-12-20 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Crash,

I have saved your suggestions and will see what I can do. As you said the dice
roll to see who goes first should be pretty easy. The house buying and selling
a bit more. I do thank you for all of the thought and suggestions as to how it
could be done. I will see if I can do that. Just have to be careful to make
sure about building and removing legally.

BTW I am glad that you were able to play and record while on FTP with no
trouble. I also often use 2 computers for recording like that. Used to be
able to run my TV in as a line in, but that was a different TV and this one
doesn't work out for that. Do miss recording off of the TV.

Thanks again and BFN

 Jim
