Re: [Audyssey] bah! humbug!
btw, I have the solution, I'll paste in the bit about the buttons in case anyone else can help (the door is opened by entering the digits that the aardvark wrote on the wall (random each time). To enter a digit you must turn on only the segments in that digit. Push the segment button to turn it on (or off). When all of the correct segments are lit, then push button 7 to 'enter' it. Read the LCD display to make sure its right.) (this puzzle has been particularly problematical for visually impaired and blind players of Humbug, because it is much simpler to solve if you can see the segments being lit up on the screen. It may help to know how the segments are arranged to build up the numbers: 4 - Top bar 3 - Left side upper vertical 5 - Right side upper vertical 2 - Centre bar 1 - Left side lower vertical 6 - Right side lower vertical 0 - Bottom bar So to create an LCD 4, press 2, 3, 5, 6, and then 7 to transfer this to the LCD itself.) I don't know how many times I've read complaints from gamers who have difficulty with a game such as Shades of Doom, Sarah, or Teraformers. Not only will they have the typical north, south, east, and west directions but have to climb up and down on ropes, vines, ladders, staircases, whatever as well. Thus moving around is not only more realistic, but much harder to present in an audio only format. Let's say you want to give the player a really tricky room. Maybe you need to skale a wall to get to a lever that releases a trap door in the floor. Once you climb up there, pull the lever, jump back to the floor, you can open the trap door and descent into a room below the one you are in to get the gold and gems hidden there. Sounds cool here, but imagine trying to let the gamer know all that with audio only. Especially, if you can't just skale straight up the wall, and instead have to climb left and right looking for handholds to pull yourself up to the lever. The odd thing is that most BBS's usually give you the opportunity to change your password initially to something you might remember more easily. Sadly I don't know the sysop's email, so you might have to sign up again. If you were feeling particularly enterprising, you could try to look up a few old BBS doors on google. The sysop of gamemasters realm has a site full of old doors, and his email is also listed there somewhere. -- From: "Ann" Sent: Tuesday, April 14, 2009 4:34 PM To: "Gamers Discussion list" Subject: [Audyssey] pROBLEMW ITH GAMEMASTERS REALM WASRe: Playing Legend of the Red Dragon Hi folks, I just tried to sign up for Gamemaster's realm and got sent a password that does not work. Re: [Audyssey] Getting target distance and direction.
Hi. and ctrl+shift+d for both in a row, wow, the possibilities! That actually sounds reasonable to me, just using d with modifyers for direction and distance and such. - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward To: Gamers Discussion list Sent: Tuesday, April 14, 2009 11:31 AM Subject: [Audyssey] Getting target distance and direction. Hello everyone, As many of you know I have been spending a little time the last couple weeks just working on the cross platform Genesis Engine so that when Mysteries of the Ancients is finished I can jump in and begin work on some new titles with it. Anyway, while working last night I had some thoughts about gathering target information. The first way is I could have you press a single key like d to gett the distance and direction to the enemy. Obviously that is quick and simple, but you might get a lot of extra information you might not want at the time. For example, it might say something like this. Enemy 1 Below and to the left Distance 15 meters As a gamer I can see the value of using different keyboard commands depending on what specific information you need. For example you might press shift+d for direction and control+d for distance. That way you can get absolutely the information you need/want without hearing the entire message. Any thoughts on this? Re: [Audyssey] Getting target distance and direction.
How about an option where your radar/scope targets the closest enemy automatically? While playing Tank Commander I often found myself wanting to destroy another target while forgetting that "n" was the key to switch (either that or I'd need to switch through too many before I found my mark). This would make things more intuitive (depending on how it's implemented). On 4/14/09, Thomas Ward wrote: > Hi Lukas, > Good point. Re: [Audyssey] Getting target distance and direction.
Hi Lukas, Good point. One thing to keep in mind here is because we are dealing with an actual 3d environment, not just 3d audio, that is definitely going to add complexity to my future titles. For example, targeting is going to be a bit more complex then most accessible game players are certainly use to. Depending on if the enemy is above, below, or level with you your weapon has to be raised or lowered in addition to facing the target. Lining up a target can be tricky, and I hope the additional complexity there doesn't throw too many people off. Another area of complexity is just navigation itself. I don't know how many times I've read complaints from gamers who have difficulty with a game such as Shades of Doom, Sarah, or Teraformers. Well, if they are having difficulty with a 2d level layout adding a full 3d level layout is going to be more difficult for them. That's not easy to clearly communicate to a totally blind player. Smile. Hi Ann, My name is Tony and I am old enough to recognize the Lord game. A friend of mine was a computer geek before they were called that and he somehow got me a copy of the game to play on my computer at home. As the dos program got further and further buried under windows it stoped working. I still have a copy I saved but I don't think it will play on my present version (XP). If any one finds it for you I wouldn't mind if you let me know. I am going to give my home copy a try again and see if I can get it setup to work again, not very hopeful though. If you find something out write in your subject as Lord game and I'll know not to deliete it. thanks write me Tony At 09:15 AM 4/14/2009, you wrote: Hi folks, Okay, a blast from the gaming past, so to speak. [Audyssey] Getting target distance and direction.
[Audyssey] Playing Legend of the Red Dragon
Hi folks, Okay, a blast from the gaming past, so to speak. LOL! I know this is a big long shot. But, does anyone know of any places where one can telnet to and still play the legend of the Red Dragon game? Thinking about muds and the like has reminded me that I used to love playing the old LORD game. There are a few online versions of LORD,not talking about LOTGD, which is legend of the green Dragon, but they are Java based, and don't look very accessible for screen readers. It would be nice to find an online version that was playable. Thanks if anyone has any advice. ~Ann Thanks. ~Ann --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Golf
Hi Charles, I know, I also found out that Maria From The Bronx made one heck of a hard Flintstones trivia file. I also thought that I would do well and didn't. Still fun though.
