[Audyssey] Cross-Platform Games was Star Mule

2013-10-02 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Teresa,

Yes, I know. That is one reason I have been strongly looking at Python
for a lot of my future game projects. As long as the correct Python
interpreter is installed and any other associated dependencies like
Pygame and say PyTTSX a developer can achieve near complete platform
independence for his/her games. Plus if a developer wants to they can
compile them into a stand alone executable which is good fore
distributing the application to specific platforms.
However, I do have a cross-platform engine, written in C++, which
could achieve the same goal, and I may use that. Not sure just yet.

Cheers!

Oh, that would be fantastic. With a tiny bit of tinkering, various versions
of Python will work on Mac in Terminal for some games, like SoundRTS.
Anyway, I've heard about Jim's games, and appreciate his sense of humor. I'd

2013-10-02 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi James,

So do I, but unfortunately as long as Jim Kitchen continues to use
Visual Basic 6 that will never happen. Visual Basic by nature was
designed specifically for Windows 9x and XP so that cuts everyone out
of the picture who doesn't use those operating systems. Even on newer
versions of Windows like Windows 8 the VB 6 games are becoming
somewhat problematic. So I am afraid no matter how enjoyable Jim's
games are unless someone rewrites them they are going to require some
virtualization to play before too long.

Cheers!

[Audyssey] Revelation By Aprone, a recipe discovery game

2013-10-02 Thread Phil Vlasak

Revelation By Aprone
Revelation version 05 beta, is a puzzle game of discovery and efficiency
for Windows. Armed with 36 items, match pairs together to create something
new. You begin with no knowledge of what to create or how to create it, but
through experimentation, intuition, and research, you will discover
combinations that work.
There are literally hundreds upon hundreds of recipes and items hidden
within this game.
When you discover new items they will show up in your achievements list
along with the number of turns it took you to create it. Especially as you
learn more and more recipes, you can figure out ways to create them faster.
Use first letter to move to items starting with that letter, or the up and
down arrow keys.

Pressing Enter will take the selected item and put it into a crafting slot.
After picking two items, shift enter will try to combine them.
Pressing 2 will bring up a list of all recipes you have discovered.
For example, combined Cow and Grass, to make Cow and Manure.
Like all Aprone's games, this game is zipped up and you need to unzip it in
its own folder, then go into that folder and run Revelation.exe

It uses SAPI or on screen text to play.
Use the tab key to cycle through the different speech modes.

Re: [Audyssey] Star Mule

2013-10-02 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi James,

Oh, that'll be the day. There is no way anything like that will ever
happen because there are too many incompatibilities between
programming languages and platforms to ever make something like that
likely. Writing something like that would be very expensive and time
consuming, and there would still require some human intervention at
some point to fix things the conversion tool didn't correctly convert.

The best answer is to come up with a decent cross-platform design in
the first place. For example, Draconis Entertainment has written
themselves a decent cross-platform engine that allows them to support
Mac and Windows with the same language, tools, and APIs which makes a
complete rewrite or conversion tool unnecessary. If more developers
did things that way it would go a long way to resolving the issue of
platform incompatibilities.

Cheers!

Correct punctuation and spelling forms an impression of you, whether it is

regular basis, write iphone instead of iPhone. This is a glaring error that

Can you hear the difference between iphone and iPhone? Frankly, iphone

people refuse to do it?

iphone is Solara, since there the missions and buildings and such mean!
something.

Still, if you like that style of game fair enough.

All the best,

Dark.

Hi, in the storm 8 games how is it best to start off the building. Is it
best to start with the best building you can afford with the money you
have or is it best to build a few of the smaller buildings to get as
many

buildings as possible.

thanks very much.

Cheers!

Hi all,
Please, let's stop the argument over spelling now. Do remember this
list is intended to be an informal setting, where we are all here to
have fun, and not to snipe over people's bad grammar or spelling.
While I agree with the point that correct spelling and grammar forms a
positive impression of a person, especially for people who can see the
misspelled words, it is not however the point of this list to jump on
someone every time they misspell iPhone as iphone etc. If someone's
spelling is really that annoying to you simply don't read his/her
messages.

Thanks.

frustrating to see the same error over and over and over, when it can so

the criticism as it is meant. For those who did not see it as constructive

Hi Charles,

I didn't' take your message as being overly harsh or arrogant, but the
issue here is that some people do not want to change. Good or bad we
can't tell people to change their ways if they have no desire to do
so. My wife, for example, has a habit of using double negatives in a
sentence, which drives me up the wall, but I've done given up trying
to explain that she can not use the word nothing in the same sentence
as couldn't, didn't, wouldn't, etc. However, until she realizes how
uneducated that makes her sound when she uses a double negative I am
just talking to a block wall. I think your issue of repeatedly asking
people to spell iPhone correctly is a similar exorcize in futility.

Cheers!

Hello Charles,

I'm Using JAWS 14. As far as a spell checker I've tried to do a google
search for one. I found some, but the problem I keep running into is they
ether don't work with JAWS or they just flat out suck and only will correct
a 8th of what is wrong with my spelling. So it just takes up more space then
it's worth. I'm using my old computer till November. When I will have the
money to get a new hard drive for my new one. The computer I'm using now
only has about 5gb free space, it only has a 60gb hard drive in it. Till
then I'll just have to do it the old way and just keep playing around with
the word till it sounds close enough to the proper spelling.

Wow, I came back to this list after a few months to read about Storm 8
games like the subject says and all I get is a grammar lesson.

As for the spelling of iPhone, it is such a small error to correct, yet
it is one that sighted people and blind people alike will notice, now
that you know about it, you can correct it with no problem.

And if you don't have a spell checker, there are free ones available
from the Internet. You can find them through a search engine. HTH.

Hello,

That is not allways true, both wways sound the same on my screen
reader. both ways say iPhone. So if I din't know that it was spelled
with a cap p, then how would I know to fix the error? and just the
opisit there are lots of times where JAWS says things all screwed up,
when it is spelled fine. Not only that but my MS Office is not working
so I have no spell checker on my computer right now. So what am I to
do? just stop wrighting I guess just to make people happy.

Re: [Audyssey] building in the storm 8 games.

2013-10-02 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, I discuss Storm8 games at great length in 2 podcasts I recorded some
time back. I love playing these on my Iphone, iPhone, IPHone, and
iphone. ha ha ha to those grammar cops. In any case, if you want to give
those a listen it will answer your questions. The links to the podcasts
are below.

Part 1 is http://www.asmodean.net/podcasts/Storm8DemoPart1Intro.mp3

Part 2 is http://www.asmodean.net/podcasts/Storm8DemoPart2Money.mp3

Good luck and see if these help.

PS, if you create a username and password, you can transfer your
character to other devices. I've done this, but unfortunately some of
the games, the settings link is not accessible. I believe the Kingdoms
Live app is so you can do it from there.

Re: [Audyssey] building in the storm 8 games.

2013-10-02 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, I realized after sending you my last message that I really didn't
answer your question. Basically you want to try and build evenly
according to the return on investment, ROI. this is because as you buy a
new building, it gets more expensive. So, you eventually have to decide
if paying out money for a lower building will be worth spending more
money for a building which brings in more. Basically you want to keep
the ROI even and the way to do that is by dividing the cost of the
building by the amount it brings you each hour. So for example in my
Zombies Live game the next Human Disguise will cost me 11812 and each
one of those brings in 1 flesh stick per hour. So, the ROI is easy,
since you divide by 1, it's 11812. Now the next building is the falling
cage and it brings in 5 flesh per hour. The next one will cost me 59048.
So even though the next falling cage will cost me more than the next
human disguise if you divide 59048 by 5, you get 11809.6. So the ROI is
just about even with the 11812 of the human disguise. There are ROI
calculators which do all the work for you so you can easily figure what
to buy with what money you have and it keeps it even. Or you can just go
by instinct. However due to simple mathematics, keeping the ROI even, or
as even as possible will maximize your spending for the greatest output
per hour. it's slow, but it works.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [Audyssey] Revelation By Aprone, a recipe discovery game

I have the best defence before building any buildings.
