Re: [Audyssey] Baseball version 4

2007-09-12 Thread Richard Bennett
Hello Jim,
I just wanted to drop you a note and say that I absolutely love the baseball
version 4. It is just so much funner with the fielders diving for balls,
pitcher getting hit with line drives, and the sounds when someone gets hit
by a pitch. I have been looking for commercials for about an hour so that I
can add some to the game. Congrats on a wonderful game.

Hi Jason,

Thank you for letting me know that all of the speech is working properly for
you in my baseball game.

You can change the baseball commercial files baseco1.wav through
baseco13.wav files or just add to them like baseco14.wav baseco15.wav etc
etc. And of course they go in the c:\program files\kitchensinc folder.

Yes, you can change all of the baseball player names. So start up something
like Note Pad Press control + o to open a file and type in one of the below
drive, path and file names. It might even work to just cut and paste in one
of them.

c:\program files\kitchensinc\baseballbatters.txt
c:\program files\kitchensinc\baseballreliefpitchers.txt
c:\program files\kitchensinc\baseballstartingpitchers.txt

After changing the names being careful to maintain the file format just save
the file

2007-08-14 Thread Richard Bennett
Hey Thomas, that is truly amazing. Perhaps an Ancient Civilation brain
surgery game? Ha ha. A cool topic would be though to discover treasures in
like Ancient China though. I was going to release the little game project I
had done earlier this weekend, but went to compile it and make sure things
worked properly and it gave me around 50 or so linker errors, so as soon as
I get time, I am going to go through and try and re-install the IDE and
Allegro(the game library) and see if maybe that will fix the problem. It
confuses me because last time I had checked everything worked properly and
now it isn't, h. Anyways thanks for the info.

Hi Richard,
Actually, there have been some recently discovered tombs in China that
make the Mian and Inka tombs seam dull and boring.
For example, one Chinese tomb uncovered several thousand warriors that
had been crafted with eh precision of modern day manufacturing work.
Even more interesting they discovered a war chariot thousands of years
old that had been assembled on an assembly line that hasn't been matched
until recent times. Bottom line, historians and archeologists now
believe the ancient Chinese were the most advanced civilization on earth
for several thousand years.
In more recent times there have been rocks discovered in South America
which depict advanced medical practices being done such as brain
sergeries, and this only proves ancient peoples were no stupid savages.
Ancient peoples discovered, learned, skills up to a very high level, and
through the centuries through war, desese, etc all that advanced knolege
was lost for a time.

[Audyssey] rail racer error

2007-08-10 Thread Richard Bennett
Hello, I have been trying to play rail racer for a few days now, but I
cannot get the game installed properly or something. I am getting this
gameEngine.exe error which states:

If you were in the middle of something the information might be lost.

Then I get an ok button. I have .net framework 2.0, and have installed
Direct X 9(June 2007) and it still isn’t working. I might be possibly be
putting the Direct X in the wrong area of my hard drive. Where should it go
in the C drive? Any help will be appreciated. I am looking forward to
playing this game.

Thanks,

2007-08-09 Thread Richard Bennett
Hey Thomas, I've noticed that in the few names we have went over in
Humanities at school, now that you mention it. I was under the impression
that we were just using the Greek names I didn't realize that some English
translations were the same as the Greek names. Thanks for telling me that,
learn something new everyday. I do like the idea of the character searching
maybe the Incas' ancient toombs, the Mayan's toombs, and like you said many
other opportunities are out there. This is a great idea.

Hi Richard,
Well, some of the Egyptian and gods and goddesses names are exactly the
same in English as ancient Egyptian like Osiris and Isis for example.
However, for the god Set hostorians don't all agree on the proper name
for him. It really depends on who translated the name, and I guess there
is some tricky reading of the heirogliphs for his name. Though, most
historians refer to him commonly as Set.
At this point I am just brain storming ideas for the Tomb Hunter game. I
like Egyptian history as well as the next Historian, but that is but one
possible game plot.
I can easily see my new Tomb Hunter character exploring deep in some
African or South American jungle, looking through some ancient
mountains, searching a desert, etc...
Bottom line, our history is filled with thousands of quests for some
mystical and mythical item or place like Atlantice, the Spear of
Destany, Arc of the Covenant, Excalibur, fountain of youth, just to name
some of the more popular choices. I could write an entire series of
games surrounding this game character if the games become that popular.
If I run out of the usual suspects I can venture into more Sci-fi relms
seaking some long lost alien artifact left hear by some alien race that
visited our planet in ancient times. Basically, there is allot of
options here.

Hey Tom, thanks for the answer. I figured it was written in something other
than C++. I am wanting to get used to the Visual C++ IDE, but haven't had
time in the past 6 months or so with the final quarters of my schooling
happening. Hopefully after September I can just sit down, not have to worry
about homework, and try and get something out. Whether it be a very simple
game or something else. I did create a game called Battle of the Mages, but
was so ashamed of the outcome that I couldn't risk letting anyone have it.
It was just so simple and basic someone might think that would be the way
the rest of my games would turn out even though it was my first actual game.
Anyways thanks for the answer.

Hi Richard,
The GMA game engine was written in Visual Basic 6. However, I suspect
David Greenwood will have to update to something else sooner or later as
Microsoft is pulling all support for Visual Basic 6 and earlier next
year. The only Visual Basic apps that will be supported is those written
in Visual Basic .Net 2003 or later.
For certain Vista's support for Visual Basic is the last will we will
ever see. The next os after Vista won't support VB 6 and earlier at all.
So apps using VB.Net, C#.Net, or good old C++ will have longer life cycles.

Hi Damien and Richard,
I'd like to point out every developer has to start somewhere. Usually,
starting small is always a good choice, and as you write more and more
games you will get better and better at it. For example, bet you can't
guess what my first game was I wrote?
Well, my first game was a game called USA Black Jack which was written
in C++ for the Linux platform. It had no sounds, was all text, and was
so basic that Jim's Black Jack game had more features and better game play.
Now, look at what I am working on. I am writing USA Raceway, Montezuma's
Revenge, and even looking at a Tomb Raider style game which is light
years more advanced than my Black Jack game.
I've thought about redoing USA Blak Jack in Java or some other language,
but have been too busy with major projects to worry about smaller game
concepts.

Subject: [Audyssey] Thoughts about a tomb hunter game.

Hi all,
As many of you are aware I have been thinking of doing a Tomb Raider
style clone called Tomb Hunter. However, in so doing I need to change
elements with in the Tomb Raider story such as main characters, enemies,
etc to make my game more my own then a one to one outright copy of Tomb
Raider.
For example, in Tomb Raider IV Lara Croft is on a quest to find the
Amulet and Armour of Horus in order to slay the evil Egyptian god Set.
Set for that game was the primary villen, and is public domain since he
is a major character in Egyptian myth and legend.
However, as an amature historian myself I know that Set, called Seth by
Greek writers, wasn't an enemy in the earliest Egyptian writings. His
character was the younger brother of Osiris , and he was the primary
guardian of Ra. His roll was to protect Ra from the evil serpent god
Apep, called Apophis by the Greek writers, and was a sort of heroic
figure. He usually was depicted in hieroglyphs as a half-man half-dog
like creature.
As the centuries passed he began to take on a more adversarial roll in
Egyptian myth. He became jellus of Osiris, and wanted Osiris's wife,
Isis, and so he eventually murders Osiris. Set then becomes king of
Egypt, lord of the gods, and Isis flees. Where she, as myth has it,
bares Osiris a son Horus who grows up to defeat Set, and becomes the
heir of Osiris and a god in his own right.
A few more centuries pass and in Egyptian tales Set becomes the lord
over Upper Egypt while Horus is the lord of Lower Egypt. When Egypt was
united historians recognize Set and Horus sort of got melded into one
character or a duel god like character.
Eventually, Set became associated as Apep, lord of the underworld, and
began showing up in Egyptian records as a crocodile, snake, dragon, etc
which had formally been reserved to forms of Apep, and Apep falls out of
Egyptian writings.
I'm writing all this biographical and historical information to get to
the heart of what I want to ask. Do you guys think I should replace Set,
(Seth,) as the villen for Tomb Hunter in favor of Apophis?
I think Apophis, (apep,) makes a much more cool enemy, and here is wy.
Apophis was said to be able to change between several different forms
such as a crocodile, giant snake, lizard, hippo, etc. He had the
ability to hitmatise an enemy with his eyes. He could bite a person
injecting them with a deadly venom. He also could curl up like a snake
around them and crush them to death. As a super villen he certainly
makes an interesting read in the ancient Egyptian stories.
As I illistrated above Set has two different basic characters. One of
the hero which was the dog like character which wouldn't fit to fight.
The later Set has all the qualities of Apophis, but has the added
advantage of adding in the conflict between Horus and Set. Though, if I
use Set one has to keep in mind this idea of Set as an advarsarial
character is totally dependant on time and Egyptian scribes which
changed his character by renaming Apep to Set.
So if you could pick would you have Apep or Set?
One other question I have is would you like the English translations of
the names or the Greek ones. In English the gods are Set and Apep. In
the Greek stories, later retellings of the stories, they were called
Seth and Apophis.

Ok, I know you said the .Net Framework and DirectX are correctly

By the way, where Montezuma's Revenge is installed to should have
nothing to do with this error,
but you might try this just in case.
Go to your Montezuma's Revenge directory and press enter on
Montezuma.exe. If it runs there is a problem with your icon not setting

which was running in a non-standard location.

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] rail racer

Thanks for the kind words Everett,
Just to make sure it is clear, Rail Racer itself isn't on hold, only
future expansion and development of it, such as more online chat features
and additional upgrades to the Racer. As far as the online track uploads
and sharing, and the tournaments, they will go on.
For me, the sales were dissapointing, I was hoping to move at least 200
units, but it turns out I overdeveloped the game and deep and complex
 isn't
neccessarily what the blind gaming community wants unfortunately.
I did everything I could to make Rail Racer the most replayable blind
 game
available, including free online play, an extensive career mode, a track
editor with an online track upload system, online posting of results, and
the first web based tournament system for the blind. There simply is no
accessible game out there with the amount of features Rail Racer offers
 for
replayability. Despite all that, only around 120 copies of RR have been
sold, and this is very unfortunate, as it doesn't encourage developers
 such
as myself to put the kind of time and energy into a project that leads to
 immerssive and involving game play.
At any rate, my plans for some more involved games, such as an Apache
helicopter simulation have pretty much been canned, as it just isn't worth
the large amount of time it would take, when I could do 4 simpler games in
 the same amount of time.
Some of the problem with Rail Racer is due to the fact a lot of blind
gamers just aren't into racing, and I have to wonder how this is going to
affect the success of USA Raceway when it comes out.
I think probably Raceway will be more well received, as it is easier to
relate to todays Nascar racing than a futuristic environment such as Rail
Racer is set in. Additionally, I think RR is probably a more challenging
racer to get used to than Raceway will be, this is something I thought
 would
be a selling point, but I am afraid the opposite has turned out to be the
case. Blind gamers don't seem to want a game with a steep learning curve
 by
and large, they just want to be able to start a game, jump right in and
 get
cracking without having to practice and get used to the nuances of a high
 speed vehicle on complex tracks.
Anyhow, I have learned an incredible amount by developing and releasing
rail racer, and the things I have learned will help tremendously in my
future titles, though I will probably not create something as feature rich
as RR again, at least not in the near future.
Finally, regarding Raceway, I hope no one takes what I have stated here
 as
any kind of slam towards that title, I assure you I will be buying it
 myself
at the first chance, and I would hope Thomas would include me on his beta
team for the game, as i did with him for RR. I am confident Thomas will
give us a great game we can all have a lot of fun playing, I think his
 work
on Final Conflict and Monty shows that he is one of the top developers we
 have.
And if you haven't given RR a fair chance, I urge you to give the demo
another try. Ask anyone that has played in the Rail Racer tournament and
they will happily tell you what a great time we have all had competing
online with it, it has truly been a killer gaming experience.
  Later all,
  Che

Hi Bean,

You know if you played one game of baseball every day it would take over 5
months to play the 162 games. Or if you played 5 games of baseball every
day it would still take a month. I'm sorry, but I don't think that I will
even do a shortened season. It will remain Championship baseball. You know

Hey Jim,
I am a baseball nut, so I would like to play all of the 162 games, but I
feel I am probably one of the few. Maybe like say 51 games or so. I used to
play full seasons back when I was sighted, but that was then and this is
now. Anyways look forward to your new game when you get a chance to work on
it.
That is my 1.5 cents worth of opinion.

wonderful, you don't have to give away secrets, but it would be nice to listen

Chillingham to work properly on my PC, so I have uninstalled it since Bavisoft
wouldn't help me with the problem, they never responded to my e-mails and I
would like to hear the game played completely through. I have heard Kelly's
mini-walkthrough, but would like to hear the complete game if that is possible.

Re: [Audyssey] [SPAM] Re: blaytont Forgery regarding Ivan

2006-07-06 Thread Richard Bennett
I wasn't going to say anything, but had to from a learning how to program
better game developer type standpoint. I had a feeling that Ivan wasn't
telling the truth, don't know what it was, but it just didn't seem right to
me. I have never played Super Lium, but have heard that it is a great game.
I know that I haven't contributed any games yet, but have a few free ones in
the works, just to give me practice programming audio games and trying to
perfect my menus in the programs, which I think I have done. I really
appreciate the AgDev-Newbies list, cause they have helped me out
tremendously with various aspects of my programming games. Anyways, what
upsets me is people out there actually trying to learn programming so that
they can develop games for us, and then some people come along and steal
ideas, and try to steal code. I know from experience, when you cheat like
that, you are only cheating yourself in the long run, it is wrong to do
stuff like that. Writing programs isn't easy work for most people, and alot
of work goes into even the small free games, let alone the major development
projects such as Railracer, Monty, and Super Liam. I don't know about major
products, cause I have yet to write one, but from the little projects that I
have written for school, they aren't easy, and I, frankly, am disappointed
in the actions of Ivan. Anyways there is my 1 1/2 cents worth.

Re: [Audyssey] Downloads for Rail Racer

2006-06-18 Thread Richard Bennett
Hey Che, I am asking this question, which I think I already know the answer
to, but want to make sure. Recently I downloaded Microsoft Visual C++ 2005
express edition, it came with .net framework 2.0 and is installed. I know
that with most stuff it is backwards compatible, and am wondering if you
know if .net framework 1.1 is the same, since I want to purchase Rail Racer
and wanted to make sure that it is backwards compatible for the .net
framework.

I have a couple of answers to this brain teaser.
1) watermelon
2) canteloupe
3) honeydew
and this could be one, but there is orange juice and that would mean that
it would be processed and there are mandarin oranges in cans, but I was just
thinking just plain old juice oranges. Anyways Rich, e-mail me off list with

Well, I do not understand the question to well. Are you talking about the

Well Ivan, how about both ways, the main character and the enmies, explain
what kind f dragon the main character will be and explain what kind of
dragon the enemies will be.

quote:
3. Who are the enemies that we will be fighting?
Ivan's answer:
Well, I do not understand that question eather.
end quote
the question was pretty simple, what kind f enemies will the main character
be facing in battles? Such as humans, dragon hunters, wizards, other
dragons, etc. That is what the question is asking

Re: [Audyssey] Jim's baseball game

2006-05-28 Thread Richard Bennett
Hey Al, well what I do is turn up my volume so that I can tell better when
the ball is about 85% to the plate, then I swing. Now I am not going to say
that I don't hit the numerous of foul balls, cause I do, but it works for
me. Also, I do a little bit of batting practice before each game to get me
ready because it will let you swing at all the pitches in time and the
announcer will tell you if your swinging too early, too late or whatever the
case may be. But seems that most of the time when I hit foul balls, they
always catch the catcher where the announcer doesn't want to tell me where
that foul ball hit the catcher, lol. That is one of my favorite sayings.
Anyways hope this helped some.

well I knew you got 4 runs in, but I was wondering about the sounds. I meant
to say in the e-mail that I knew you would get 4 runs, guess I should have
made my inquiry more specific.
Thanks Charles for answering me though

Re: [Audyssey] [SPAM] Re: rail racer auto transmission

2006-05-17 Thread Richard Bennett
that is easy enough, just when you hear the engine pitch getting higher,
like it isn't going anywhere else shift up to a higher gear, do the reverse
when you need to shift down. Example, when you need to slow down shift down
until the engine sounds normal(after braking of course)

Re: [Audyssey] [SPAM] Re: The Rail Racer Trailer is up

2006-05-16 Thread Richard Bennett
it makes it sound even more awesome. I am sure that the game will be awesome
and everyone will have to get used to it. I don't know if it has it, but
having an automatic transmission wouldn't be a bad idea, or say when you win
a certain amount of money, you could then purchase an automatic trans.
That'd be a good idea.

Hey Che, that is an awesome addition to the game. When I used to play racing
sims when I could see, I would listen to the radio all the time. I am glad
that you incorporated that into the game, I hadn't even thought to make that
a suggestion.

2006-05-16 Thread Richard Bennett
well I am hoping that if I can't purchase the game maybe my mom will get it
for my bday. But hopefully I will be able to purchase it. Have you any ideas
of how you are going to take orders? The reason I am asking about the sale
time, is I have a break coming up June 13, until Jul 7th and that would
give me plenty of time to play the game. Awesome job man, awesome.

here is another question for the Rail Racer game. I have both a desktop and
a laptop computer system. Will I have to buy 2 betas or full release game to
be able to have the game on both computers?

Re: [Audyssey] rail racer

2006-05-16 Thread Richard Bennett
well that majorly sucks, I guess I will either put it on my laptop or on my
desktop. Yeah I thank them alot *sarcastic laugh* that does suck, but oh
well. Will the final release have a different product key? What I guess I am
asking is there a possibility to have the beta on 1 computer and have the
final release on another computer. I mean I wouldn't mind purchasing a game
twice if I had the money, but I just don't have the funds to do so.

Hey Ann, I know there is some from spoonbill software. However I prefer the
solitaire from:
www.gmagames.com I play it more than the ones from spoonbill games. It just
depends on what you like more.

have to say, I dug it, man, I dug it! That game sounds really awesome and
I can't wait until the beta is released for purchase, I just hope I have the
money. How long will the beta be up for sale?
