Re: [Audyssey] Alteraeon Kinzhay quest

2017-02-04 Thread Richard Sherman
Hi,
yep. that is the right shop. but won't do you any good to go there till the
mage in the fire plane says to do so. According to the quest line you have
to kill the rebel leader first before the mage will tell you to go to gads.

I think you need to head to gads and head north to the 4 way stop just
before the mage school trainer and then head east 2 times and then north I
believe. there is a shop keeper that you talk to and I believe he gives you
the tracer crystals. then you head back to the fire world, give the tracer
to the gate keeper and he takes one and you get the other. then you have to
hike back to the village on the fire world and give the crystal you still
have to the black robed mage in the north most hut and you have completed
the quest, unless the admins have altered the quest since I last did it.

already
completed this quest or are trying to do it in the wrong order" when I

I think there's a problem in that quest somewhere since I have no idea who

Re: [Audyssey] Alteraeon Kinzhay quest

2017-02-03 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,
ok. just finished it.

1. as you enter talk to mage.

2. he send you to find the team. when you talk to the mage in the camp he
says he needs another tracer and has a problem with rebels. If you look at
the short it says to kill rebel leader. so go kill him.

3. after you kill him it says to go and talk to mage at gate.

4. talk to mage at gate. he sends you to gads for another crystal.

5. go to gads and get crystal. then return to mage on fire plane.

6. he gives you a tracer you have to bring to the mage in the camp.

when you give the new tracer to the mage in the camp the quest is done.

hope this helps.

Hi Richard.

If there is a clue about kinzhay I must be very dense, since the researcher
said there were two problems, the loss of the crystal and the rebels, so I
assumed to deal with the crystal first as I hadn't been told to go and kill
the rebels.

There isn't really an indication of which first, but I suppose I can go
massacre the rebels and see if that helps since they manifestly don't want
the crystal.

All the best,

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Alteraeon Kinzhay quest

2017-02-02 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,
been a while since I did the fire world quest, so here goes. first ya talk
to the man by the portal as you enter. Then find the tea. I think he asks
for a new one. go back to mage and he sends ya to gads for another one.
return that one to the leader of the research team. some where in there he
tells ya to go kill the rebel leader.

as for Asryth. There is basically 2 areas to that one area there. The main
level has 2 fame I believe and no quests or deeds for them. Not all fame has
a deed related to it. But the fruit deed you did introduced you to the area.
in a back hallway is a down exit and some jail cells. explore if you want.
go down one more level and there are 2 sarcophagus to get some gold out of.
go down one more and your in the catacombs of asryth. Believe this area is
instanced so take your time and explore a bit. There is about 4 fame and one
deed in this area. As you go north in one spot after going down a level or 2
you run into a single mob before a down exit. his name is fil. talk to him
and get quest.

Good luck with those. And if ya need help in game look me up for answers.

Also it doesn't matter your level. the minimum you will ever get for a deed
is cap. so running those low level deeds is good. and also note that a few
areas in and around gads is being reworked so a few of the quest line in
and around gads is broken for the time being.

and just in case you, or anyone didn't know this. but if your a mush z user
you can type qt, and the island name to see what quests need to be done on
those areas. so type qt sloe, qt kordan, or qt archais to see what deeds are
left to do. if your not a mush z user then type quest sloe|grep TODO (note
the todo is all in caps) to see what is to be done on sloe. change out sloe
for the other islands to see a list of to do quests.

Hi.

I decided I needed a break from the undead drow city so went off to do some
other quests.
First up is the fire world of Kinzhay and the quest to find a lost research
team, however I'm running into a rather odd problem.

The black mage in the village told me that the research team was stuck
because the rebellion was blocking the way, and because they didn't have a
new tracer crystal to get back.

So, first I recalled to the gate keeper to ask about a new tracer crystal.
He however is giving me the self same speech he gave first time around,
that the research mission is missing, though oddly enough he's saying he'll
replace my tracer crystal if I give him 250 gold, which is rather odd since
he hasn't given me the first one yet.
Someone on the questinfo channel did say I had to go and talk to a mage in
gad's but that just seems weerd when I'd not been told to by the research
party, particularly since it would be easier to get the crystal from the
gate keeper.

I also have one unrelated question about azeroth keep.

i went in there and did the fruit negotiation quest, however that barely
scratched the surface. "where fame" tells me there are things in there to
slay, but it seems odd there are no deeds at least involving them.
Any chance an extra deed could be added? I'm not above going in there just
to explore and get monsters, but I do like getting all the achievements,
indeed I'll probably head back to kordan just to do the newly added quest
even though it's way below my level at this point and I won't get much
for it, since I like completing all the quests.

All the best,

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Castaways 2 help

2017-02-02 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,
couple things about castaways 2.

1. Its still in beta as far as I know.

2. the online development was done to a greater degree than single player
mode. so not all the kinks worked out for single player.

There is a couple things you can do:

1. reload the game. the map is random each time so look at the terrain
before you start building.

2. There are a couple cheat codes you can enter to gain a few things, money,
branches, stones to name a few. Think those codes are some where in a read
me file.

As for extra goods not showing up, that's highly possible

conclude it is not Audiogames.net. It sounds to me something is wrong

[Audyssey] problem accessing audiogames.net with firefox

2013-08-10 Thread Richard Sherman
Hello,

Using firefox version 22 on a windows 7 ultimate machine and jaws 13.

However I do believe this started before updating to version 22. I think i
had either version 17 or 19 at the time.

for about a month now I have not been able to access any part of
audiogames.net. The error message I get is:

403 Forbidden

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /listgames.php on this server.

Apache/2.2.16
(Debian) Server at audiogames.net Port 80

I have tried typing it it manually or going thru a google search with no
luck. Ran clean up to remove all temp files and still no go.

Strange thing is that IE 9 will bring up the site with no problem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

The first thing you can try is to run the bat file as administrator. Right

Hi,

I wanted to know if anyone could do a playthrough of the first quest in
Entombed. Also, I wanted to know how I could play Alter Eon on a computer. I
wanted to know how to create an account and if someone could do a demo of
the game? Sorry if I ask for too much. I shall repay all of you someday. Leo

HI,

This game is a MUD. Which means you use a mud client to connect to the web
to play it. It is all text based.

For this specific mud, you can check it out at

http://www.alteraeon.com

What is nice about this mud is that there is a great sound pack for it to
make it more exciting and entertaining than most.

Hope to see you there.

HI,

Seems to me that in one of the 3 mounds with a stone in it lies your
answer. Two of the mounds are small, 1 is a bit larger. Search around in
there and you will find a wall or a stairwell with a hole next to it. Go in
the hole and you will know what to do next.

Good luck.

ps. While in the hills, be sure to get the pelt and hair of the white wolf.
Take the pelt back to peg and the fur to the alchemist to complete 2 other
quests.

2013-05-03 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,

One thing that might help is to check out the web at

http://alteraeon.com:8080/quests

This might give you some info on quests.

The 2 quests are:

1. The kitten. It is being held by a character named Roy. He is hidden so
you will have to search for him.

2. The lost boy. The boy will find you, or you will find him. Once he starts
to follow you, find his mother. When he walks in the room you will know it.

I have put spoilers below to further explain how the quests go if you should
wish to know.

One nice thing about that town is if you have the lock pick skill. Use it
lots there to improve it since most of the doors there are locked.

good luck.

For the kitten quest with Roy. He is just inside the entrance at the north
side of the town. just north of the docks. When you find him, just type in
Oz kit. If you are good, the cat will be set free. If you are evil, you will
bite the head off.

The lost Childs mother is up the hill to the west. Walk in and it should say
a mother with her kids. The house has a door broken that cannot be shut.

lost child and the one about the kitten. Of course I'll be taking the
good path for both (and anyway being a cat person in real life I could
never imagine eating one). But since most everybody in that village
speaks Spanish or an approximation thereof I'm not sure what to do. I
posted on the Newbie channel but all tey said was tat important people
speak English. The problem is I found maybe two or three such people and
none of them seem related to these two quests.

Re: [Audyssey] Getting the key to the lockbox?

2013-05-03 Thread Richard Sherman
Hi,

congrats.

As for the dragon, I have a suggestion. Group with someone who also has to
do the quest. Since there is nothing to get but kill the lady, all the
members of the group get credit for the kill. Plus groups tend to get more
exp and then you don't have to go it alone. A win win situation.

If the quest is something you need to collect to prove your quest. Tag with
someone,, complete it once, then go back later after it repops. Quest should
be easier the second time so it should go faster. Then you know what you
need to do or not do. Again, a win win situation.

Good luck.

Re: [Audyssey] Getting the key to the lockbox?

2013-05-03 Thread Richard Sherman
Hi,

many times in a room, there are multiple items red off to you. This is one
such place. In that room are multiple piles of trash. So to look at pile 2,
you would type in l 2.pile, and so on. what you seek is under one of those
piles.

One thing I have learned is that 99% of the time, what the game tells you,
it is because it is relevant to to the game. So you have to listen carefully
to what is said. many times it takes a look, a search, a push, a move, and
then you get your answer. So don't give up. That is the fun of the
exploration.

BTW, I never stole the money. I gave the priest the key. And it took me a
while to find the shrew and find the key. perseverance will pay off

Good luck. HTH.

HI,

I see you already got an answer to this.

I do have 2 suggestions:

1. Use the help system in the game. Dennis has put a lot of time into it and
it is well worth it. I commend him on an excellent help system. Just type in
help, a space, and what you want help with.

2. use the newbie channel. It is there so you might as well use it. Just
type in newbie first, a space, and then ask your question. Many helpful
people there. Who knows. You might even get a god to answer you.

My reason for posting this is to help you get an answer as quicly as
possible. Since the help system is so good, and you are right there, you
just might get an answer much faster than posting it here.

If all else fails, ask here or join the alter group. That group is thru
Google. The subcription address is

Re: [Audyssey] Help in the ruins.

2013-05-02 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,

You probably already figured this out, but just in case.

What to do in those 3 last rooms depends on what quest you are doing. If it
is the evil side just Kill the guy you find in the spider chamber. Get his
head and take it to the chief.

If it is the good one and you need the teddy bear, also just follow what it
says. Kill the chief, collect the bear, and return it to the girl.

Also just in case you did not know. use the quest extra # command. The # is
the number of the specific quest you need to review again. it will tell you
everything about the quest so you can listen to it again to refresh your
memory on what you did or need to do.

Again, if you need any further help, do not forget about the help system in
the game. Also there is the newbie channel you can post questions to in the
game for assistance.

HTH. Good luck.

Re: [Audyssey] The missing needle

2013-05-02 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,

I don't believe there was an answer posted about this.

The hidden gardens are north west of Vermarken. A bit north of the hay
stacks. Only 1 way in an and out of the gardens. Easy to find. A little hint
here. There are 2 parts to the garden. Search both for all the things you
need to complete the quest.

One other thing to note here. There is a quest in the area of the haystacks.
Talk to someone near the hay for it.

Three in game commands that may help just in case you did not know about
them.

The first command is nearby. This will tell you where some things are. Keep
in mind it is as the crow flies, not a direct route. But use it to navigate
to the area you seek.

Two is the command quest nearby. this way you can determine if any quests
are in the area you are currently in. Not all quests are where you talk to
someone and then get a quest. Sometimes it is you do something first and
then talk to a person to get credit for it.

the third one is also a quest command. But you would type in quest slow.
What this does it to give you a list of all the quests on the island of slow
and whether or not you did them or not. Helps you keep track of which ones
need to be done.

For more info on the quest command, type in help quest in the game. The help
system in the game is exemplary.

Hope this info helps.

Re: [Audyssey] enabling output window in mush z

2013-04-12 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,

Great suggestion. So I did look in the output_functions.xml file. It does
appear that in there you can change the keys to enable, or toggle, the
output window.

Also looked around at some of the other xml files in there. One of the files
in the plug in folder was CaptureMudOutput.xml. This was written by Shawn
Randall. It says that if you type in 'cmo', in lower case and no quotes or
anything it will also enable a output window. So I tested it and it works
just fine. One thing I did notice is that when you exit and come back you
have to re-enable the output window. So another great work around.

thanks.

You switch windows with control and tab. This works for all
windows you have open, including muds and outputs. I would
imagine it's possible to change the key to enable and disable the
output window, though I can't tell you how at the moment. You'd
have to look in the output_functions.xml file.

Hi Dark,

In my case, I can turn the output window on and off using control alt O. So
I went into mush z and poked around even more than before asking my

Here is what I have under the window menu without the output window enabled:

New Window
Cascade
Tile Horizontally
Tile Vertically
Arrange Icons
Minimize Shift+Ctrl+M
Close All Notepad Windows
Maximize
Restore
1 alter

When I enable the output window it has a 2 output listed. But under no menu
option that I can find is to enable the output window. If i select new
window it just makes another copy of the alter window.

Anyone else got any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Using the latest build of mush z. Those who use it know that you can press

I have a friend who has control alt O set to open another program. Either he

Is there a way to enable that window without pressing control alt O?

Re: [Audyssey] Error when trying to launch entombed.

2013-04-04 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,

Strangely enough, someone on the entombed mailing list is havign possibly
the same problem. So I have pasted the solution below:

You're likely missing the SQL Compact 3.5 SP2. First, you have to uninstall
the version that 1.02x installed, likely SQL Compact 3.5 SP1. Then you have
to download the newer version from Microsoft and install the items
appropriate for your system. The link to the self-extracting archive for SQL
Compact 3.5 SP2 is located at:

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5783

Run this exe and have it extract to some place where you'll be able to find
it easily, because that's the next step to browse to the location you just
extracted to. You'll notice there's three files, install.txt,
SSCERuntime_x86-ENU.msi, and SSCERuntime_x64-ENU.msi. Depending upon whether
you have a 32-bit version of Windows or 64-bit, the install procedure is a
bit different. If you have a 32-bit Windows, then just run
SSCERuntime_x86-ENU.msi. If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, you must
run SSCERuntime_x86-ENU.msi first, then SSCERuntime_x64-ENU.msi. These same
instructions are found in the install.txt file.

If you're not sure whether your Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit, there's a
couple easy ways of finding out. Bring up Windows Explorer to show the list
of files and folders on your computer's c: drive, which is where most people
install Windows. If you have both a program files and a program files (X86)
folder, you have 64-bit Windows. Also check your Windows folder, if you have
a syswow64 subfolder, then you also have a 64-bit version of Windows.
Otherwise, if you only have the one program files folder and no syswow64,
you're running 32-bit Windows.

Once you've installed the SQL Compact 3.5 SP2, try running Entombed 1.05b
again, and let us know if you have any more problems. hth

HI,

then drop Aprone a direct message. include any user and relevant info you
think he might tneed.

Be patient. He works so it might not be resolved until tomorrow.

BTW, were you trying to create a new user or sign into an old one. If an old
one, after about a month it might have been deleted. Be sure to give as
detailed info as you can so Aprone can resolve your situation as best as
possible.

Good luck.

Hi,

The current released version is 2.8. The test version is 2.9. so check to
see what version you are currently running. If you just download swamp from
the site, then more likely it is version 2.8. you have to specifically
download a separate zipped file and install it to be running 2.9 on the test
version.

downloaded the latest version off your sight and ran that, didn't see

Re: [Audyssey] Moderator Important Message for the List

2013-03-18 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,

Thanks for the clarifications Thom.

One other thing that list members can do is to send messsages as plain text.
For the most part plain text is sufficient. Sending as plain text decreases
the size of each message by a lot. Of course it is better to send links and

Hi Shaun,

No, there is no way to automatically split or trim a message to the
write length that I am aware of. To trim a message I just scroll down
a few lines, to the end of the post I am replying to, and do a
shift-control-end to select everything to the end of the message, and
press delete.

For example, since I am only responding to you I went down a few lines
to the beginning of Charles's post, and selected everything to the end
of the message and then deleted it. Now, all we have is roughly a page
or so of text containing your message and my reply to it. If everyone
did that most messages would probably be 5 KB or so at most, because
there would not be these huge messages containing reply after reply in
them.

Cheers!

because it's trying to tell you you picked up money when you

[Audyssey] help with alter aeon

2013-02-22 Thread Richard Sherman
Hi,

Wondering a few things:

1. Walked around the camp and found the dump. Wanted to pick up a pair of
boots. In this case, there was I think 4 different pair of boots lying on
the ground. When I use the command take boots, or get boots, it picks up the
pair I didn't want. If I type in take studded boots, it doesn't seem to work
like it should.

In this case, how is the best way to pick up something that has multiple
like items you can grab?

2. How does one view, or review, what clothing, armor, or weapon one is
holding or wearing? I can take it off but that seems a long way to do it.

3. Got 3 rings. Two appear to be very similar. I tried using the compare
command. But how do I compare properly? For instance, I had the 2 similar
rings on and it would only compare those 2 rings. I took one off and tried
again but it still compared those 2 rings and not the third ring.

4. How does one communicate with other players? Will double check readme,
but don't remember seeing it. Only how to change channels.

5. Will the game automatically equip me with the best stuff I am holding?
For instance, let's say I have 2 pair of boots in my inventory. If I say
wear boots, will it put on the best one's for me.

Thanks for your patience and assistance.

Re: [Audyssey] using mush z with alter aeon

2013-02-22 Thread Richard Sherman
Hi,

Turns out I needed to add the mushreader.xml file in the plug ins. Then I
had created my own mcl file. Once I used the alteraeon.mcl file, the sounds
started to play. Works just fine now.

Thanks for the assistance.

BTW, for anyone who is going to start playing. Read the readme file on the
main mush z home page. If I had paid attention the first time I skimmed thru
it, I would have not needed to ask my original question since the answers
were right there. Boy do I feel silly for even asking. So save your self and
read the readme file as you go.

Good luck. See you in the game.

You should be able to type tts at any point, if that does nothing
you need to instal the mush reader.xml plugin. Control f12 is
either in lua audio, or intrinsic to mushclient itself, I'm not
sure. If you can send me a list of the plugisn you have
installed, I can let you know if there are any differences I
notice.

I'm not sure why your sounds and speech weren't working by
default, but they should be. With mushz loaded, type: "tts" to
enable speech, you should here "tts on". Then, press control f12,
to enable sounds. You should here a beep, and "sounds on".

[Audyssey] using mush z with alter aeon

2013-02-22 Thread Richard Sherman
Hi,

So a friend and I decided to try alter. We are both running win 7 and the
latest version of mush z. He is using window eyes and NVDA. I have NVDA
also, but prefer to use jaws. His system is 64 bit, mine is 32.

So we got thru the log in screen, but had to use the jaws cursor, or
equivalent, to navigate it. While in the game. there too we had to use the
jaws cursor, or equivalent, to read the output of the game. Plus no sounds
played at any time.

When we logged in the first time, we answered yes to the questions of are
you blind and would you like to enable blind mode. And we are using port
3010.

We both got to the camp at the beginning and stopped there.

So why did we have no sounds?

Is the game not supposed to read the output of the text automatically?

Is there any setting for the screen readers to perform better?

So far, so good. But was hoping to fix these minor issues.

Thanks in advance.

Re: [Audyssey] huge Swamp bug.

2013-02-20 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,

Aprone would be the firsts one to apologize for the readme file for not
being up to date. Instead of updating it all the time, he put notes in the
change log text file. In there will be notes on when he added those keys in.
Give it a good read. Some interesting items in there you might not know.

As far as configuration files. The progress.ini file file includes such info
as your name and password, what screen reader you have it set to, and
whether you agreed to the user agreement. This file should not be modified.
If you try you may break the game, or worse get caught for cheating and
therefore get banned. Not a good thing.

the keyconfig.ini file is what keeps track of what key does what. Open it in
notepad and give it a look. There you can change any key to another, but
never change the order of the items in the list. Otherwise it won't work
properly.

As already mentioned, there are 3 keys for footsteps. One for yours, one for
other players, and one for zombies. Simon said he has his set to 140%. I
suggest you do not do that because then you will think they are closer than
they are and you will waste ammo . I only increase zombie footsteps for
shooting at them long range, and then put it back to 100%. The higher the
percentage the louder it should be. Press shift and the same key to lower
it. Just a suggestion.

I have a really nice modified keyconfig.ini file if anyone wants it.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/13968355/keyconfig.zip

The file is really not zipped. just remove the zip off the end and put in
.ini instead.

What is nice about it is I have moved all beacons to the F keys. And most
others do not require the shift or control key

If you need help, look me up in the game. Always glad to help. You can also
drop me a line if you need help.

Also there is the audio games thread on swamp:

http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=6341&p=277

This is the last page of the thread. You can get help there or follow what
is going on.

Hello,
First I'd like to point out that I'm a totally new player as of today. SO
perhaps this bug has been mentioned previously. Basically I found some keys
not mentioned in the documentation. They allow you to raise and lower player
footstep volume, as well as zombies volume level. The problem is when I try
messing around with player footstep volume, all movement sound is completely
stopped. In fact, I'm not even sure if I'm moving. Has anyone experienced
this? I haven't played multiplayer btw, only default offline map. Only way
to fix this issue appears to be to remove my config file, which won't be fun
once I get into missions. lol

I took the old beta down primarily because I have been hoping to release a

issues, and simply a lack of time I haven't managed to get the new beta
completed and ready for download. If there is enough demand for it I can put
the old beta back up, but I really don't want to do that because I don't
want to get bug reports and suggestions based on a version more than a year
out of date. :D

Not quite sure where you are... 6-2 or 6-3? If it's 6-3, you'll have a piece
of paper in your collection items... look on that piece of paper, and it'll
give you the hint you need.

Re: [Audyssey] swamp and road to rage dropbox

2012-12-20 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,

Here is the situation with drop box and the road to rage folder.

About a month or so ago, there was a couple of files added to the road to
rage folder. They talked about how the rtr folder was going away. the files
and such would be taken to a proper forum and out of drop box. One of the
files gave the URL for everything. Unfortunately I do not have the URL.

So after reading your message, I checked. I too was sharing that folder. And
it too is gone from my drop box.

so you weren't hacked. The owner of that folder warned everyone it was going
away, and it did.

If I find the URL for where everything got moved to, I will post it.
Hopefully some one else has it and can post it.

HTH.

Hi.
I need to get in touch with jake grisham from the audiogames forums.
On my dropbox it was reported to me that the rtr and swamp map
folders were gone.
And in fact when I booted dropbox up, both folders removed themselves.
No reason why I was kicked/ banned/ left though.
as far as I know I have not posted anything untoward and nothing has
appeared in email spam or anything, I have not checked what I sent
yesterday, but I need ot know what happened to the folders if they just
went.
I have all the maps and to be honest I don't really play them at all
that much but I was just wandering.
My reason is this.
someone from an rr.com server and the us tried to hack my gmail yesterday.
He didn't get in, and probably didn't get passed my password which I
have now changed.
yet gmail warned me about the potentual hack.
As far as I know no viruses are on my system nore has anything
changed in email, dropbox or other things.
I am wandering what has happened.
And am slightly miffed that I was just kicked for no reason.
If I have done something please tell me because its not showing up here.
If someone just kicked me because they will be flamed and I don't
care how or where I do it or I get banned from all lists either.
I doubt it was malicious and am going to check my outgoing to make
sure I am not comprimised but still.

Re: [Audyssey] Swamp server down.

2012-12-18 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,

Currently, the main server is running version 2.8. There is a test server
running version 2.9. Anything you do on one does not reflect on the other.
But when it is all said and done, the test server and everything will go
way. The test server is just that, for testing new things and ideas for the
next version. So what you do on 2.8 is what counts and may or may not carry
forward to the next version.

As for weather causing the servers to be down I don't think so. NO bad
weather that I know about in his area. Plus his skype is still up. So me
thinks he is doing some major rewriting or something that required him to
bring the servers down.

I can wait.

Your normal login information does not change. So use what you did before.

As Thomas mentioned, the version on the link he gave is 1.02. And the latest

Re: [Audyssey] Swamp

2012-11-16 Thread Richard Sherman
Hi,

I noticed by your 2nd message you are say you are using 64 bit windows. Try
this:

1. Run the win64.bat file. but first use the applications menu to run it as
administrator. Even if you are logged in as this, you must still do this
step.

2. If running the batch file does not work, then please read the read me
text file in the swamp directory. This will instruct you on how to register
the necessary files manually. Be sure to open the command prompt using the
above described method of running the command prompt as administrator.

3. If you register the files manually, you might as well do all 3 of them at
the same time. Will probably save you work in the long run.
If you do not run the batch file, or command prompt, as administrator, the
files cannot be registered properly.

Keep in mind this is a one time thing. All Aprone's games will then run
properly in the future.

Good luck. Welcome to the game.

Re: [Audyssey] I have a question about swamp.

2012-11-07 Thread Richard Sherman
Hi Angel,

You need to extract all the files from the zipped file. Then the game will
use the swamp.exe file to launch the game. The nice thing is that it runs
solely from that directory. So you can put it anywhere on your system you
like. Also, if you don't like the sounds, you can always modify them as you
desire.

For anyone who wants to follow the thread on audiogames.net, the URL for
swamp is

http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=6341&p=225

This brings you to the last page of it. You can always change the last few

Re: [Audyssey] I have a question about swamp.

2012-11-06 Thread Richard Sherman
HI Angel,

When you extract the files, they should be all in 1 folder. The game runs
from that folder, no installation necessary. the only thing you might have
to do is register some files if you are running vista or windows 7. If this
is the case, please read the readme.txt file to register those necessary
files.

In that directory is a swamp.exe file. Hit enter on it and enter your user
name, password, and agree to the user agreement. Hit enter on multiplayer
and see if it runs. If so, it will say connected and this day is sponsored
by some person.

Couple of Things to note:

1. When the game starts, it will be set to use sapi for your tts. You can
change this if you wish.

2. After the game starts, it will create three more files in that directory,
progress.ini, keyconfig.ini, and chatlog.txt. the progress file is to store
your stats and settings. The keyconfig.ini file is for your keyboard
settings. you can modify this as you wish to suit your needs. And the chat
log is a text file of your chat messages. Messages sent by you and any other
person are stored here for future use if necessary.

3. Please read the changelog.txt file. it will give you some helpful hints.

4. Remember to use custom maps if you need to explore or try some things.
This way you can experiment with out getting killed and loosing all your
stuff.

5. have fun. And remember to ask for help if necessary. Most people there
are glad to help newbee's.

Good luck.

Re: [Audyssey] swamp, possible new recording/review

2012-11-06 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,
I say go for it. There are a few of these out there, but not as
comprehensive as what you are describing. Most just show from a map 1 newbee
perspective.
Suggestions:

For map 1, look at it from a newbee's perspective. Give as much detailed
info as necessary. going over how to use the radar, coordinate system,
navigating buildings, and the quest system are some things to consider
touching upon. Also how the leveling up and point allocation system works
too.

for map 2, give it from an intermediate perspective Give only the tips and
treks pertaining to map 2 that most might not know. Maybe a brief discussion
about sub maps here might be good.

for map 3, make it from a advanced perspective. "Again, only those tips and
treks some might not know for map 3.

Maybe for missions a brief overview. Good patterns of looking, and what to
do or avoid might be good.

One other thing to mention in your podcast is the use of custom maps.
Practice there is quite useful. Practice makes better.

something to think about might be to wait for the next version before doing
this. but if you do it now, good luck.

Hi all,
It's been a while since I've done any serious swamp recordings, so I thought
I'd throw this out for debate. I'm thinking of doing an overview of all the
various aspects of the game. I'd show each of the maps, and do one of each
type of warehouse mission. I may or may not do the sniper or lms, it would
depend on how long my recording is going. While I wouldn't be aiming for a
walkthrough, I probably would explain a lot of what I'm doing, and in the
case of the maps, I'd run through some hints and tips for each. Is there
anything in particular you would like to me to detail? Any particular
strategy you want me to offer an opinion on, etc. That being said, I'm not
at a point yet where I want to do this recording. I've still got some stuff
I want to run before I take on a job like this. Once I get all the stuff I
need, and if anybody feels like this would be useful and/or interesting,
I'll do the recording. The absolute earliest I'd be able to get it done
would be this weekend, providing my schedule will cooperate.

Re: [Audyssey] swamp: mission thoughts

HI,

Hadn't checked the fourm lately? you may have missed some things. Check it
out. The thread URL is

http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=6341&p=220

This is the last page of the discussion.

Aprone has mentioned a bit, mostly in the game, that a new version was on
the way. As far as I know it deals mostly with security and connection
issues. but rumors abound that it may include new weapons and missions. the
hard core player mode has been slated for a release in the future for now.

as always, Aprone for the most part has been tight lipped about what and
when. Personally, I don't care when, it will get here when it does.

and if you missed it on the audio games forum, he has been putting out
little missions mostly with dires attacking certain portions of maps. We all
come running and put them dires 6 feet under. The nice thing about these
attacks is that some times it may be possible to get extra items not
normally found. These may include running shoes, shorts, and bunny slippers.

BTW, for anyone reading this who does not read the audio games forum topic
regarding swamp. today is swamp's 1st birthday. Woo Hoo.

Re: [Audyssey] swamp: mission thoughts

2012-10-21 Thread Richard Sherman
Hi,

It sounds like you are asking for different missions, but that take longer
and with more of a story line then correct?

Because currently the missions can go either quite quickly or relatively
long. it just depends on how many you have join, and how good those people
are. I have heard of last man standing missions lasting well over a half
hour. also missions into warehouse 4 can take well over an hour.

I do agree more missions with different styles than just collecting crates
would be great. But I don't have any suggestions. But if you do, throw
Aprone a message with the suggestion and as much detail as you can.

Also, there is a swamp folder being shared thru drop box. It has in it 4
maps you can play in off line mode. Sorry none of them have been
incorporated into multiplayer. But it does give you something else to try.

Or you can always create your own map and send it to aprone with your ideas
and suggestions.

Plus keep in mind a new version should be on the way soon. So it may just
contain some of your ideas in it. give it a look when it comes out and go
from there.

HTH.

I'm finally getting back into swamp a bit, and more and more I'm wishing we
had longer missions. Not that we'd have to find more crates, but that there
was some kind of mission that would take over half an hour to do instead of
five to ten minutes. I'm not sure how this would work; 150 crates isn't
quite what I had in mind, but overall I'd like to see something longer,
perhaps with more of a story.

Any thoughts?

HI,

I forgot to mention that on the kaldobsky website, there are 2 walk thru's.

If you want more, here they are:

One done by valiant. it is fairly old, probably version 1.5 or so, but still
has some good stuff in it.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/13968355/Valiant%27s%20swamp%20playthrough.mp3

One done by harp. probably done about version 2.4 or so.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/13968355/harp%27s%20Swamp%20Demo.mp3

One done by Drew. Probably the most recent one done about version 2.6 or so.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/13968355/Drew%27s%20tutorial.mp3

Good luck. need any help in the game, just ask me or anyone.

You might have to select the batch file and choose the option "Run as
Administrator" for it to work. This isn't the same thing as just being an
administrator and running it, many people think that is what it is and
don't realize that it won't work.

HI,
 You could try the following:

1. Take out the blue crystal first. This way it cannot summon the bones of
her or bring back any other crystal. After that, take out the other 2
crystals in what ever way you wish. Most take out the red next.

2. Try the following spells:

confusion
curse
silence
slow

3. Try to poison or get her to have zombie rot.

4. Grapple or web scrolls work nicely if you have an assassin. Even if you
don't, they still work nicely.

5. Try to take her out before she transforms. After that if she can focus
she can do some serious damage.

6. Probably the best way to take her out is to focus on the head.

Good luck.

Re: [Audyssey] Jim Kitchen's games and Win7?

2012-09-13 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,

Thanks for expanding on my thought there. I meant no disrespect to any other
programmer who currently uses VB6. Just those 2 games which are one of the
few multiplayer ones out there came to mind and used them as an example.

I take my hat off to all the programmers out there. I am old school, Cobol,
Fortran, basic, rpg, and a few other now dead languages, are what I cut my
teeth on many years ago. Got my associates in computer science but got
burned out and never got back into programming. It is those of you who now
pave the way for great games for me to play with that I salute you.

Should have also said that even in the future, emulators and such will
probably keep VB6 around for some time. just like those types of things keep
dos and some really old, even arcade games, still around.

Seems like where there is a will, there is a way.

Hi Richard.
I really hope that we will be able to play all the VB6 games for many
years to come, as many of my favorite games are written in vb6. Not
only Jim's kitchensinc games and the games you mentioned are vb6, but
also GMA games, bsc, LWorks, and many other games. I can actually
think of more good vb6 games than non vb6 games.

The reality is that VB6 is an old technology. And old technologies
sooner or later become so hard to use that people will stop playing
those games. for now things are still working fine, but we as a
community need to find a sustainable way to make the vb6 games work,
so they are not lost to us.

This has nothing to do with putting down of programming languages etc
and everything to do with keeping the games I like around as long as
possible.

I feel as a fellow programmer the least I can do to pay tribute to the
creative sols that made all these games that I love so much is find a
way to make them playable for as long as possible. I know it's
terribly altruistic of me, but for now it's the only solution I can
see.

Added to that, I do have a degree in computer science, so this is
squarely inside my domain. After all, games got me interested in
programming in the first place.

Re: [Audyssey] swamp navigation question

2012-08-23 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,

To add to what Simon wrote.

As you found out, you earn reputation, or rep, and experience, or called
exp, while playing the game. This is done by kills, finding and donating
items, or thru missions.

The reputation helps you buy items in the safe zone or join missions. The
experience helps you level up. Once you level up to certain levels, it makes
it so that you can proceed to other maps or lead missions.

Quests are for the most part map specific. So if you get a quest to find a
flashlight while on map 1, the quest item will be on map 1. there is 2
exceptions to this. There are 2 quest items you can get from map 3 that take
you across multiple maps. For now I won't go into those.

Missions are the best way to level up. It costs so much rep to join a
mission. Be sure to practice the warehouse maps on custom maps so that you
know the layout of them before joining. Also be sure to tell any mission you
join that you are new and that you will try your best. Otherwise they will
consider you a truck sitter and kick you off of the missions. The purpose of
the missions is to enter a warehouse and collect crates that spawn randomly
over the map. Pick those up and drop off at your trailer to earn rep. Once
all the crates are collected and dropped, you then return back to the safe
zone you started from and you earn a bunch of rep and exp.

As for chat. many use team talk, skype, or other other chat clients such as
those. Especially to coordinate missions. much easier to talk then to text.
And yes, the in game chat works well.

Any future questions, just write here. You can also write me off list or
look me up in the game.

Good luck. And remember that dying is only half the battle.

ingame?

another thing you could try is to raise the footsteps of the zombies a
little higher than your own, and mute other players footsteps for now.
end quote.

I would suggest that you do not raise the footsteps of the zombies past
100%. If you do, it will throw you totally off especially once and if you
remember to lower it later. Otherwise you will be thinking the zombie is
closer than it really is.

but lowering yours and others footsteps can be helpful. But don't lower
yours too much. I have lowered it too much, only to run into something and
it stopped me. Yet I thought I was still running. I keep my footsteps about
80% and others about 50%. I like to know if someone is really close to me.

For now, get pretty close before shooting. This way you are narrowing down
the angle of the target, and within range of it.

Also be sure to read the 2 weapon files in the swamp directory. This will
give you an idea of damage, range, and capabilities of each weapon. And you
may want to practice on the custom maps a bit to get a feel for each weapon.
There you can shoot and die with no regrets, nothing lost.

Good luck. Ask as many questions in the game as you wish. Most of us are
very glad to help and assist.

Re: [Audyssey] a huge swamp issue

2012-08-18 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,

Yes. prone is experiencing server issues after the last windows update.

Please be patient. When you try to connect, it might hang and you will be
stuck at 0,0. Try pressing the shift slash key to connect. If you do not
connect, press the esc key. If it says connection interrupted, the server is
down. For how long no one knows. Just try to reconnect later.

Currently the main issue is with messages. they do not come thru as they
should, they buffer. It takes something to connect to the server to bring
them thru. When this happens, you might get a flood of messages at once. To
do this, most people press the shift slash key. But killing a zombie,
donating or buying something, or checking the mission list also seems to
accomplish the same thing.

If you want, you can follow the topic on audio.games.net. The thread link
is:

Re: [Audyssey] swamp server down?

2012-08-16 Thread Richard Sherman
HI,
There is a thread on audiogames.net talking about this. the URL is
http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=6341&p=185

Aprone wrote the following yesterday in message#4,551:

The server was taken down because windows needs to install the new updates.

Many Swamp players know that my laptop has been slowly dying due to its
overuse, haha. Well after windows did its updates I was only able to get a
black
screen instead of windows loading up. I tried using the last working
configuration, safe mode, but still no luck. I was just about convinced
that the
laptop had met its end, when one final restart was able to bring up the
startup recovery tool. It's been scanning for a long time now, so we'll see
if
that gets things working again.

If the laptop ends up being dead, and Swamp along with it, I'll let everyone
know. LOL!

Aprone wrote the following message earlier today in messsage#4,622
:

As you can probably imagine, I'm currently being bombarded by a ton of
emails and messages lately and it takes forever to explain to everyone why
the server is down. I'm also getting a lot of suggestions for things to
try, and writing the responses takes time so I'm really really behind on it.
The network driver is actually something I've tried in the past and it
didn't help. Forgive me for shortening this as much as possible, lol. The
server software has been tried on several computers with operating systems
of XP service pack 1, XP service pack 2, XP service pack 3, Windows 7 32 bit
and Windows 7 64 bit. The OS doesn't affect this behavior at all, so it's
been ruled out. I've tried the network drivers from windows as well as
those from the manufaccturer. It's been tried on systems with no firewall
or antivirus running to rule those out. It's been tried on systems with
hardware that exactly matched the laptop and still no luck. It was tried on
computers outside of my local network to eliminate my router as the cause,
also tried on computers receiving internet from a different ISP than myself
and still no luck. The code has been checked and rechecked but I can't find
anything that would cause the bottleneck, plus if it was in code then it
should have done it on the laptop as well, which it didn't. By checking the
code as it runs each line, it shows that the program actually does send the
outgoing messages correctly. The layers between the program sending the
command and the network card actually sending the packets seems to be where
the problem lies. That's about all I know.

I have several others asking for basically this same information so I think
I'll paste that into an audiogames thread. Once again I apologize for being
as quick as possible and then seeming to vanish again. I used to get a ton
of messages on a normal day, so you can only imagine what it's like when
2000 swamp players from around the world think I either don't know the
server is down, think there's just an update and want to ask questions about
it, or are trying to understand why I don't just do "this and this" to start
Swamp up again. ROFL, it's a tad bit overwhelming, but I'm sure it will
calm down as word spreads. The big thing is that people don't know what's
already been tried, and it takes a while to tell them if their suggestion
has already been tried. :P

I am still super behind on my emails but I have noticed some titled
"Donation received" in there. I will send out personal thank you's once I
get to them, but I wanted to take a moment here to thank everyone for
rallying together with the goal of helping! :D That being said, I don't
want anyone to be misled and donate believing that it will guarantee Swamp's
return. money isn't actually what's holding Swamp back right now. In some
yet unknown way, the laptop's old configuration was preventing the bottle
neck bug. I have the laptop back up and running 100%, but even though the
hardware, anti virus, and firewall are identical to what they were before,
Swamp now has the bottle neck bug that it had on all other computers.

I've been working on it with all of my free time, but I still feel like I'm
grasping at straws. Every theory that pops into my head is plagued with
this 1 gaping hole... the software ran perfect on 1 computer but fails on
all the rest. That fact right there destroys every theory that passes
through my mind. Could it be something in the Swamp server code? Well
possibly but that doesn't make sense if it runs just fine on 1 computer.
Could it be an issue with windows 7? Doesn't make sense because it still
doesn't work on XP machines. Could it be due to the language used? Also
doesn't make sense because I've tried it on machines that are plucked right
out of the time when VB programs were everywhere. I keep checking things
but the entire time, in the back of my mind, I don't expect them to work
because they don't make sense based on what I've already tested and tried.

To all those who have skyped or emailed me and haven't gotten replies, yo

Games We'd like to play.

Curiosity Mars rover game.
NASA secretly put you inside the rover to help guide it down to the surface
of Mars.

As it enters the atmosphere, you need to uncover the heat shield so it will
start slowing down.
It will reach about 10 gravities of acceleration. You must decide when to
deploy the supersonic parachute, followed by when to ignite the
rocket-powered sky crane, to help slow the rover's speed from more than
13,000 miles per hour to zero in only seven minutes. [
Once the crane is hovering 25 feet from the surface, you have the task of
lowering the rover on three tethers and an electrical umbilical cord until
it sets its wheels down on the Red Planet.
You need to wait 2 seconds to confirm that you are on solid ground by
detecting the weight on the wheels and you have to fire several small
explosive devices activating cable cutters on the bridle and umbilical cords
to free itself from the descent stage that flies off to crash land.
Then the fun begins. As you travel around in the science Laboratory, along
with the parachute and Sky Crane wreckage, you discover a army of Martian
zombies digging out of the soil, all commanded to destroy you. Armed with a
telescope and laser weapon, you must explore the planet while fighting off
the metal hungry zombies.

HI,

Not sure what might have happened. I would remove the game folder, and
re-download the full game and install it again. Some file might have gotten
corrupted. Be sure to set the game options and server info. Also, there is a
new port to try if you wish. The server name is the same,

Re: [Audyssey] Swamp

2012-06-11 Thread Richard Sherman
Hi,

Nicole Thompson-Andrews asked:

What is Swamp?

Swamp is a real time online fps, or first person shooter. The game play is
not pvp, but against computer controlled zombies. You are situated in a town
over run by zombies, with only a safe zone for safety. There are multiple
buildings and areas to explore. You start out with a pistol, 55 bullets,
and 1 med kit. Your mission is to survive. You do this by collecting ammo
and weapons from the corpses of dead zombies. You gain reputation and
experience with each kill. Reputation acts as credit towards quests,
missions, and helps you buy certain items in the safe zone. As you gain
experience points,you level up.

Currently there are 4 multiplayer maps, 5 mission maps, and 8 different
types of zombies to blast away at. There is also talk about new maps and
zombies on the way.

The coolest thing about this game is that it is entirely free. to download
the game, please go to

http://www.kaldobsky.com/audiogames/

Its a whole lot of fun. Hope to see you there.

Good luck.

Not entirely true. You can be on the 6th floor, use the orb to go to town,
walk up to the 1st floor, and orb back to the 6th floor, you don't need to

So in Keith's case. If he was on the 4th floor, and orbed back to town. Went
up to the 2nd floor and tried the army cheat, the orb is still attached to
the 4th floor as far as I know. So if he pressed f1 he would then be back on

HI Keith,

Now that I know that. The only solution that comes to mind would be to note
any doors, and the coordinates of them. If you leave that room or area, just
note what directions you go to find your rescued character. The floor isn't
that big so it shouldn't be too hard to find your way back.

Or, is it possible to use your orb to take you to another floor? Possibly
one that you haven't totally searched.

Otherwise you just have to wander around and try to remember how to get to
the stairway down.

HI,

Just to add to this. yes, the current way of saving a game is to be in the
safe zone, and pres the esc key. you don't need to totally exit the game to
save. But this only works in the safe zone and no where else.

and yes, when you die, you lose everything you have collected. When you

it. So my suggestion is not to died. LOL

Re: [Audyssey] question about Swamp

2012-05-27 Thread Richard Sherman
Hi,

Just to add to this. You have to remember that the area is in chaos. so
things might not be where you think they should be. I have found items in
the restroom of k mart. So look everywhere. Usually I start in k mart and
work from there. What's nice about the smaller buildings is that you can run
around the outside and hear the ping of the item without having to go inside
and check. Also, if you have a scope for your winchester or a m40, you can
use it to locate such quest items.

Also, be sure to listen to the quest.wav file in the items folder in your
sounds folder. This will tell you what the quest item will sound like.

And as mentioned, just walk over it. Then your quest, or mission key, will
say to return it to the safe zone and donate it.

Good luck. Need assistance, look me up in the game or write off list.

Re: [Audyssey] installing swamp, help!

2012-05-27 Thread Richard Sherman
Hi,

You mention that you installed it on a virtual machine. Are you running
swamp on a mac? If so, then the following might not apply, I don't know.

As you have probably already noticed, when you extract the swamp files from
their zip archive, it is all in one folder. So if it is on your desktop, you
can move it anywhere you want. All the files it needs are in that directory.
But of course if you move it from your desktop, you may want to create a
shortcut to the swamp.exe file.

As for your sound issue. When you press the tab key to cycle thru the
different voices, does it say what voice is then selected? The 4 choices are
NVDA, window eyes, jaws, or sapi. If so, and you are using window eyes,
press that key till it says window eyes. Then window eyes should be your
primary tts and should speak everything.

Good luck.

Hi,
well, I went and got swamp and the swamp patch today and installed it on my
virtual machine and I have no sounds except for the sappie voice. I'm
running win xp and win eyes.. any suggestions, etc? The sound card is
working and the game itself for some reason installed in a folder on my
desktop.

Thanks guys,
Caitlyn
