Re: [Audyssey] Mario death in Monti
Hi Dark, I do understand your frustration with the game, but seriously I have managed to make it through the first three levels with only losing one life. I think this is more a matter of practice and timing than anything else. As for the monsters killing you instantly when landing on them it is what makes the game challenging. Take it away and you will beat the game the first time through. I don't want to take away that challenge from the hard core gamer. Not only that there is a technical point to consider here. Ok, asume I take out the death flag when you land on a monster. What exactly is suppose to happen. Does the player ride on top of the monster as it moves around, etc? If I take out the death flag for landing on the monster what can I add in to restore the challenge. Have monsters do double or triple damage per attack? You see it isn't a simple decision for me to pull it out. It unbalances the game play and something has to go in to even things out again. Which requires testing, time, and I am on a rushed schedule as it is. By the way, I am almost ready to post beta 2 so making any major modifications like this couldn't happen any time before beta 3 if at all. Cheers. Welcome to normal game play. What happens if a ghost in Pacman touches you? What happens if you touch a monster in Mario Brothers? What happens if you touch a car in Frogger? What happens if you touch a snake in Pitfall? The key thing here is practice, practice, practice. I don't think I'd like the game as much if Tom took away the challenge of dying if you touch the monsters. Dark said the following on 10/4/2007 8:54 PM: Hi Tom. Re: [Audyssey] Mario death in Monti
Hi Raul, Correct. Not only that, but I've actually made some compromises already in the way enemies damage and hurt Panama Joe. In the original version of the game if you landed on the monsters or even touched them in any way it is lights out for Panama Joe. However, this proved to be very difficult, and that is why I split the difficulty levels up. On easy monsters do little damage unless you directly land upon them. On insane if they brush against you you take an extreme amount of damage up to 100%. If you want the full effect of what the game was like on the Atari play beta 2 on insane and it will be like playing the original Atari version. It is hard, and the level I especially like playing most since it resembles the original game most. I think this built in difficulty is what is going to make gamers come back again and again trying to reach new and better high scores. Especially, once i get the score web posting into the game and can hold ternies for the game. Raul a. Gallegos wrote: Welcome to normal game play. What happens if a ghost in Pacman touches you? Re: [Audyssey] Mario death in Monti
Hi thom. Appologies for the annoyence, it's just that the only thing which seems to kill me on just about any difficulty is jumping ontop of, rather than over the various monsters. Double damage would strike me as fair enough, -- on the lower difficulties anyway, but then keeping instant death on challenging or above. but as you say, with the next beta around the corner, it's probably more trouble than it's worth to change at the moment if at all. While I quite happily got through the first two levels in the beta without dropping a life before, I probably do need to go and practice, -- particularly jumping over enemies. But if the oppertunity does come up to change this, - at least in easy and normal difficulties, imho it'd stil be a good thing. the challenge to me in Monti is exploring the entire level, keeping track of where your going, and getting as much gold and gems as possible, using torches in appropriate spots etc, and more levels certainly means more of that sort of ting. Re: [Audyssey] Mario death in Monti
Hi Dark, I didn't at all find your suggestion annoying. it is just that I think removing the ability for a monster to kill you when landing on them would make the game too easy. Anyway, speaking of Montezuma's revenge beta 2 I think the upload progress just stopped. I'll be sending out the official press release shortly. (Smile) Dark wrote: Hi thom. what I don't understand is if you have a sword the manual says snakes can be killed. Oh I finnished the game, what a blast. Knowing when to jump and when not to is quite good to. Re: [Audyssey] Mario death in Monti
Hi Shaun, That isn't true. In the manual, section 7.6 I believe it is, it says, Unlike other monsters snakes can't be killed even with a sword. The original Montezuma's Revenge wouldn't allow you to kill snakes and neither does this version. Though a way earlier version of the game did. shaun everiss wrote: what I don't understand is if you have a sword the manual says snakes can be killed. Oh I finnished the game, what a blast.
