there are no trophies in this game.
I think there is a bug in this game
we cannot cheat in this game as I think.
Should I contact Liam urven?
I don't know any kind of trophies in any side scroller. however JD
will give some trophies but I'm not a sharp shooter so I haven't any
trophies.
as the subject is mentioning I am encountering a problem in entering
cheats in super liam.

Yeah, that makes sense. Still you should be careful about giving out
false or spurious information as some people who don't know any better
may spend time trying to do something that can't be done. Super Liam
was written long before the trophies etc were introduced in games like
Judgment Day and doesn't have any.

It depends on how quickly you're pressing the arrows. If you press
them slowly I've found you actually need to hit it 4 times to get to
the bonus level. And remember the trick that if you hit escape
directly after dying, you can resume your game without losing a life.

It depends on how quickly you're pressing the arrows. If you press
them slowly I've found you actually need to hit it 4 times to get to
the bonus level. And remember the trick that if you hit escape
directly after dying, you can resume your game without losing a life.

If you mean the monkies dropping coconuts, just walk up until your fairly 
close (ie, the monkey is almost but not exactly in the center), then when 
you here a coconut fall, run like the clappers before another can 
land, - remember, holding space pluss an arrow you will run instead of 
walk, moving much faster.

Hi Peter,

Yeah, some of the functions for using DirectX also have long names that you 
need to use.  I mostly copy and paste stuff like that.  I guess that part of my 
keeping variable names short is to keep down the amount of typing as well as 
the length of the programming lines.  I don't like lines of code that are so 
long that they are on more than one line.  I also like to save time and work by 
having a starter kit that I use to start all new games with.  You know it just 
has all of the code for things that I use in all games.  But like I said I also 
copy and paste allot of code from past projects.  Maybe some people create a 
dll library to do the same, but I often find that I need to make little changes 
to the code to fit the specific project.

Any who, have fun with programming your current project.

hi,
I just started programming recently and I, too, prefer  short names.
like $res instead of $resultOfTheCoinFlipOutcome which was something I took 
from my first game I released some time ago. the only places where I had to 
use longer names was when a custum function used letters in vars as keyboard 
names so then I was getting errors because comm audio was trying to open a 
keyboard key. lol.

I assume then that he was sighted if he was working on a graphical level 
editor? I imagine one of those would be hard to design with sound only. 
You'd probably have to make it screen reader friendly I'd imagine.

Well, like I said James North's code was fairly easy to read and 
understand. Plus he gave me a lot of documentation on Montezuma's Revenge 
which helped. The biggest problem was he designed this graphical level 
editor to draw levels for the game which wasn't accessible in any way, 
shape, or form. Plus I had already heard at that time that with Vista 
coming out Visual Basic 6 was soon to become unsupported. I felt the game 
needed to be rewritten from scratch to fix both issues. Then when I was 
almost ready to release Montezuma's Revenge I got sacked with a cease and 
desist letter regarding the Montezuma's Revenge copyright. One of those 
cases where if I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all.

Well, like I said James North's code was fairly easy to read and 
understand. Plus he gave me a lot of documentation on Montezuma's 
Revenge which helped. The biggest problem was he designed this graphical 
level editor to draw levels for the game which wasn't accessible in any 
way, shape, or form. Plus I had already heard at that time that with 
Vista coming out Visual Basic 6 was soon to become unsupported. I felt 
the game needed to be rewritten from scratch to fix both issues. Then 
when I was almost ready to release Montezuma's Revenge I got sacked with 
a cease and desist letter regarding the Montezuma's Revenge copyright. 
One of those cases where if I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all.

Smile. Well, it can be like that for every programmer really. thing is 
we all have our own particular style of programming, naming conventions, 
etc and when we read someone elses code it throws us off stride so to 
speak. It makes the developer think like the other person, pick up his 
or her thought process, which can be difficult when it isn't the way we 
think or work on a program ourselves.
For example, you mentioned you don't use the "option explicit" flag so 
the VB 6 runtime uses non-typed variables. That's ok for you since you 
already know what data type you plan to store in that variable, but if 
someone else were to read your code they might get confused as to the 
specific data type you were using the variable for. Is it an integer, 
double, float, all of the above, none of the above, etc. I'd have to 
read over your program a while to figure out how the variable was being 
used which would be time consuming.
For me I'd find it easier to read someone elses code when I can look at 
the beginning of the sub and see x, y, and z are all integers. Since I 
program that way naturally that's one of the first things I look at when 
looking at someone elses code. I want to know what data the variable is 
suppose to hold and what exactly it is doing with the data.

It's a good thing that I do not plan for anyone to take over my projects.  When 
I started learning to program on my Texas Instruments 99 4A, you could only use 
1 or 2 letter variables.  I for the most part still have the habit of keeping 
my variable names short, thus they would not mean much to anyone else looking 
at my code.  The only thing that I can say, is that I have never had any 
trouble getting back into any code that I have written.  Oh yeah, I also do not 
use the VB6 option explicit, thus do not even declare my variables in the 
beginning of my project.

Guess it's a good thing that I do not work for anyone writing the code or as I

I tend to use shorthand variables like pd and ct, but I write a 
variable/function index that I or others can refer back to when working with 
it again.
Saying that though, I have recently started learning C++, so I shouldn't 
need to do that once I've grasped all the concepts I need for my new 
adventure (excuse the pun *smile*).

I don't understand your meaning when you state: "I heard the intro to level2 
which does not exist", although I have not played the game.  I do like Super 
Liam.  I think it is a good game of a kind that there just aren't enough of. 
By that, I mean side scrollers.

I played danger city again last night and its really next to impossible.

And the bad thing is.

Eventually I managed to complete act3 but the bomb still went off.

game.

For those of you who haven't played danger city, level2 is where the
character meets an elderly man who is about to tell him how to start his
new mission.

And the game character is walking in water.

And then a car   passes.

The sound of a land mine is not suppose to be there.

Although I like the  sound of the land mines its much more difficult to
jump over a land  mine in ddanger city than it is  to   jump over
obstacles in super liam.

And the game gives me enough time to complete the escape levels such as
the volcano and water escape.

Thus super liam is light years easier and  more comfortable than danger
city.

Well  done liam.

Smile. Oh, that is always a pain. I hate it when programmers use a 
variable like tdg as it means nothing to the developer taking over the 
project. You would think developer's would try to make his or her code 
as readable as possible. I always try to do so for myself as well as 
others. It is always safer to make a variable called AceOfHearts rather 
than called aoh. At least the former makes sense immediately where the 
later doesn't mean anything initially.

Technobabble:
Some libraries super liam uses are dx8vb.dll (the directx 8 vb
runtime) and another ActiveX control used for sending scores (either
wininet.ocx or msinet.ocx). If the installer isn't setting them up
propperly you should transfer them from another machine with them
installed by finding them in windows\system32 and. Place them in the
same folder on your vista machine (windows\system32) and run regsvr32
on them like so:
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\dx8vb.dll
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\msinet.ocx
You probably need to be admin to do this, or respond to a UAC prompt.
I run Liam ' free games under Windows 7. I installed Shades of Doom
and stopped getting errors afterwards. Unfortunately I can't run them
from the desktop shortcuts as I get a "could not load
sounds/soandso.ogg. the error code was 6. Fix it now!" error; I have
to manually navigate to the folder I installed them to and run the
executable.

No, it doesn't have to do with DirectX. It has to do with the fact that 
there is a VB 6 runtime library missing. I can't remember which one is 
missing that causes that particular error, but it is fixable. Although, 
even when you do fix it there are other issues when running SL on Vista 
if User Account Control is active.

Hi Lindsay,
Yes, that is a common problem with older VB 6 programs and Windows 
Vista. The way I solved that problem is by installing Jim Kitchen's 
Winkit installation and the problem went away for me.

Hi,
that's strange, cause if you jump, you should have enough time and speed to 
leave the volcano far behind you. Just don't be afraid to jump up as soon as 
you land, again and again, you should always hear a little single troop or a 
firepit long before you jump into it. Then you can slow down and walk or run 
towards it and start jumping again. Even running works fine if you do not 
hesitate too much, but the sucker stays much closer at your heels. :-)

 No worries. Please don't hesitate to ask any more questions if you 
experience problems. the game is challenging at first, but heaps of fun. I 
myself have owned it for just under 3 months, but I have managed to beat it

Actually Bryan, I deffinately remember Kelly reviewing the game on 
mainmenue. He played through a bit of sandy serf, lava lake and one level of 
silver spaceship, and it was this variety of environments that encouraged me 
to look further into the game.

Personally, while I've sometimes had fan and barrier related issues, it's 
those blasted superguards in lethal lab that I hate, particularly those 
moments just before the roof lasers and just before the exit when you get 
swarmed by a load of those things!

That isn't nice at all.

Nothing synister I should think nickle, --- sinse as you point out yourself, 
it's not exactly difficult to replay the game again.

I just imagine it was easier from a programming point o view for Liam to 
make the demo just exit, than to return you to the main menue.

Of course, the full game exits to main menue as you would expect, - and 
I'd personally recommend getting it as after the first two levels things 
just keep getting better (check out Raul's recordings or Kelly sepergia's 
review for a sneak preview).

Well you jump and press the rite aro but if you are one who does not want to 
be hard on there keyboard this game is not for ypou. You have to press the 
aro key like 6 times in 2 seconds.

yeah, it has some replay value. the downside is if you played it (or
hearrd a recording) it's not randomized. so for example, in
level2|act2, a sewer lid appears at the beginning. if i wanted to, i
could count the steps it would take to get to the metal sounds. and
there's always a robot dude when you jump over the sewer trying to
"blurp blurp" your health, as itt says in the manual. heheheh! Anyway,
I would like it more random (i.e. the pack of dogs right on a fire
pit, so you would have to go frantic jumping for them), and you know,
etc, in level3, the bair attack at the end of some act, could be
random, the monkeys dropping those things could be in random places,
etc. and x1 could be on any of the platforms and maybe can move. Also
it should have difficulites (i.e. easy, moderately easy, normal,
moderately normal, insane, crazy, ultra, and impossible, that would be
awesome!
