I agree with Steve AND Randy. If Dustin had tucked that ball the way he is
supposed to and waited until after he crossed the goal line to relax/show
off, we wouldn't be having this conversation. We might be having one about
the 15 yard penalty he might have gotten for celebrating, but his touchdown
 would not be in question.

It wasn't overturnable(?) as I said, but there is no doubt in my mind that
if those two shots were indeed taken at the same time, that the ball came
out of his hands before he had a chance to carry it over the line.

I'm glad that we got the call. I don't think that you can extrapolate that
if it had been reversed that we would have been in danger of losing.

My orange and blue glasses have lenses as thick as anyone's, but there's no
way that I can conclude that we didn't get away with one in that instance.

 Can you believe those refs?

What a week for Tennessee! Volunteers coach Lane Kiffin coached the team in
the ugly orange uniforms to yet another moral victory, beating Alabama 10-12
when the Tide’s gargantuan defensive tackle Terrence Cody (6-foot-5, 354
pounds) busted through for his second blocked kick of the game on a
potential game-winning field goal by Tennessee kicker Daniel Lincoln.

Who needs actual wins when you can get moral victories over the top two BCS
 teams?

If there is one thing Kiffin has proved at Tennessee, it’s that nepotism
can work. The Vols have played some very good teams close this year. The
biggest reason? He was smart (or related) enough to get his father Monte
Kiffin to join his staff. The elder Kiffin, the defensive mastermind behind
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ famed Cover 2 defense, has the Volunteers playing
 some stifling D this year.

After the loss to Alabama, Lane Kiffin shockingly opened his mouth in
regard to perceived bias by SEC officials, who failed to penalize Cody for
removing his helmet after the final blocked kick ended the game. He also
pointed out that the officiating crew called eight penalties for a total of
68 yards on Tennessee, while Alabama was flagged just once for 10 yards.

SEC commissioner Mike Slive responded by reprimanding the first-year
Volunteers coach, and warning him of a possible suspension if he is
 disciplined again this year.

So in honor of Kiffin’s latest reprimand, I’m using a picture of Lane
Kiffin doing what he does best: talking. This week’s Caption Planet
selection has the Vols coach giving some important advice to Tennessee
quarterback Jonathan Crompton on the sideline.

Man, I heard the Big Ten was supposed to be a cakewalk.

As egregious as most of us think his showboating was, and how potentially devastating it could have been for the Gators, I'm not about to second guess Meyer on discipline. Having raised two boys that were vastly different from each other in a lot of ways taught me that the "one punishment fits all" theory is flawed - they responded (and failed to respond) to entirely different sanctions.Meyer certainly knows his players better than I do, and I think he has a pretty solid record as far as handing out discipline, so I'll defer to his judgment. Now if it had been me calling the shots ;)--- On Wed, 10/28/09, ke...@baldwinnc.com ke...@baldwinnc.com wrote:

If we get there, I'd rather play LSU again. First, there would be some
tickets available for last minute shoppers. And, there would be a lot more
Gators there than LSU fans.

I know you're going to think I'm crazy, but I think we can beat either LSU

2009-10-28 Thread Oliver Barry
Yes, Dustin Doe did a bad thing. But, I have to wonder why all this anger
about it.

Are we really as bad as Miami because Doe took two steps in a showboating
style?

Have we really become the manifestation of evil because of it?

Where was all this anger last season when Brandon Spikes kicked the ball
into the stands? Or, where was it a couple of years ago when Travis McGriff
threw the ball in the stands.

Doe made a boo boo. So, let's get over it. I would remind everyone that
was the first defensive touchdown of the year. Leon, you were there, didn't
you get sick of the cowbells? Well, the whole team was. Urban Meyer even
mentioned it later in some post-game interview.

Have we forgotten this was the first time the Gators have won in Starkeville
since 1985? Wasn't that the Charlie Pell era?

Randy, I'm not just trying to pick on you here, but your email seemed like a
good place to bring it up.

No, we don't need to have any repeats of it. But, yes, Urban Meyer will
deal with it. Let's all get over it and congratulate the kid, after he does
his stadium steps, of course...

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that it was fumble directly related
to Doe's showboating. I believed it when I saw it live, I believed it
when I saw the replay live, and I believe it now. For whatever reason you
want to lay blame, IMMHO, the refs blew the call. I am grateful to the
football gods for allowing the Gators this good fortune. I believe Doe's
antics are indeed reminders of SCUM teams of the past and it makes my skin
crawl to see one of my beloved Gators behave in this manner. Shane is not
the only member of the old school philosophy, unfortunately I, too, am an
analog man living a digital world when it comes to the proper decorum on a
football field. I am also reminded that you can't always get what you want.
And while I certainly think that Doe should and will be punished for his
behavior, I truly believe that my opinion would not be greeted with
universal acceptance anymore than anyone else's would. Therefore, I am more
than willing to let Meyer make the call, since that what he gets paid for
anyway.

 Can you believe those refs?

What a week for Tennessee! Volunteers coach Lane Kiffin coached the team
in the ugly orange uniforms to yet another moral victory, beating Alabama
10-12 when the Tide’s gargantuan defensive tackle Terrence Cody (6-foot-5,
354 pounds) busted through for his second blocked kick of the game on a
potential game-winning field goal by Tennessee kicker Daniel Lincoln.

Who needs actual wins when you can get moral victories over the top two
 BCS teams?

Of course, if UF wins the SECCG it will be because they want Timmy to win
the Heisman, etc.

I'm very concerned. :-)

I hate this game. Especially since my husband is doing better at it than I
am. My only consolation is that he has managed to do that partly by picking
the Gators' opponents when there was a big spread. I just can't bring
myself to do that, even though I realize I'd be picking against the spread
and not against the Gators. I just can't click on the opponent's button, no
matter what.

This week’s Caption Planet

quarterback Jonathan Crompton on the sideline.

Therefore, I am more
than willing  to let Meyer make the call, since that what he gets paid for
anyway.

I hate this game. Especially since my husband is doing better at it than I
am. My only consolation is that he has managed to do that partly by picking
the Gators' opponents when there was a big spread. I just can't bring myself
to do that, even though I realize I'd be picking against the spread and not
against the Gators. I just can't click on the opponent's button, no matter
what.

I agree with Steve AND Randy. If Dustin had tucked that ball the way he is
supposed to and waited until after he crossed the goal line to relax/show

the 15 yard penalty he might have gotten for celebrating, but his touchdown

As egregious as most of us think his showboating was, and how potentially
devastating it could have been for the Gators, I'm not about to second guess
Meyer on discipline. Having raised two boys that were vastly different from
each other in a lot of ways taught me that the one punishment fits all
theory is flawed - they responded (and failed to respond) to entirely
different sanctions.

Meyer certainly knows his players better than I do, and I think he has a
pretty solid record as far as handing out discipline, so I'll defer to his
judgment.

Now if it had been me calling the shots ;)

2009-10-28 Thread Randy Platt
Okay, I am using this response to cover several topics concerning Tebow
related comments.

I agree that Tebow has not played the same since the UK game and the
concussion. I do not believe that the problem per se is the concussion or
any lasting effects there from. I do believe Tebow is pressing way to hard
and that his play has suffered because of it. I believe Tebow is pressing
because he wants to prove he is the same kind player now that he was before
his concussion or he is pressing because he really wants that perfect
season. I believe that Meyer's recent comments about the team needing to be
looser and having more fun when they play are directed specifically at
Tebow. I believe Tebow just needs to let the game to come to him. I don't
think Addazio's play calling in the red zone has been horrible, but the fact
that other teams have stacked the interior defense to stop the Tebow runs
and poor execution has made the red zone offense look worse than it really
is. Case in point, Tebow's interception that was returned 102 yards for a
TD, if you look at the replay you will see a Gator receiver, single digit
maybe Thompson, Rainey, or Demps, 2 yards deep in the end zone uncovered
running step for step with Tebow as he rolls to his left. Tim never sees
him or ignores him, I don't know which. Case in point #2, Arkansas game
Tebow's fumble in the red zone occurs on a botch handoff to James on the jet
sweep. TT is our best short yard runner, so I don't have much of a problem
running him multiple times, but teams are beginning to figure that out, so
when they do, we have to call something else, audible perhaps, but
regardless we have to execute and that is not Addazio's play calling, it
might be his coaching of the offensive line but it isn't his play calling.
Now I don't think there really is in-fighting amongst the offensive players,
frustration perhaps, certainly on Denote Thompson's part, and certainly on
Tebow's part with respect to Addazio but again it may be just much ado about
nothing if the ship gets righted. The defense, IMMHO, could care less
what's going on on the offensive side of the ball, because they figure they
can hold everybody scoreless.

It could be that's the case, the team isn't trying because of Tebow. I
think Tennessee couldn't win when Paytee Pie was there because they relied
too much on him.

Could this be the reason for the in fighting on the team?

Why should anyone practice or try hard in the game - if Tebow is going to do
everything?

Could this be the reason for Tebow's troubles?

Tim Tebow is an over-achiever who borders on OCD.

Could it just be he's trying too hard, trying to lift the whole team on his
back?

Tebow may be trying too hard

By mailto:dool...@gvillesun.com Pat Dooley

This just in - the world did not end Saturday night. Even in Starkville.

This bulletin was brought to you by Tim Tebow. Actually, it was brought to
us during his weekly Monday meeting with the media boys and girls.

Sorry I didn't talk to y'all, Tebow said. I think I've been pretty
courteous.

There is no question Tebow has been one of the most gracious athletes I've
covered during his time at Florida. When he didn't submit to questioning
Saturday night, it turned out all of those guys who played doctor after his
concussion actually got their degrees in psychiatry because they were all
analyzing why he didn't talk to the media after his pick-12 game against
Mississippi State.

Tebow's explanation - as if we are entitled to one - was less complicated.

There were a lot of other things I wanted to do, he said.

He wanted to spend a little time with Dan Mullen, his former coach,

I also heard the same two stories verbatim as reported here. The only thing to

has been used sparingly, he can't block worth a darn. Was Moody the one who
missed the block on the defender that hit Tebow's arm in the end zone,
resulting in the interception?

Off the field issues are what I've heard is limiting his touches. Nothing
especially serious, but our coaches say you have to live right - which could
entail any number of things, or you will pay for not doing so. One of the ways
you will pay is by having your participation limited.

If you go back and watch some of the plays where we got blown up in the red
zone on Saturday night, you'll see Moody conspicuously not engaged with any
member of the MSU defense, so I guess there may still be some execution issues,
his improvement running with and holding on to the ball notwithstanding.

Yes, Dustin Doe did a bad thing. But, I have to wonder why all this anger
about it.

Are we really as bad as Miami because Doe took two steps in a showboating
style?

Have we really become the manifestation of evil because of it?

Where was all this anger last season when Brandon Spikes kicked the ball

threw the ball in the stands.

Doe made a boo boo. So, let's get over it. I would remind everyone that

Florida-Georgia winner to get “Okefenokee Oar”
by Nathan Crabbe  (Gainesville SUN)

The winner of this Saturday’s Florida-Georgia game will get a wooden oar to go
along with bragging rights.
The University of Florida Student Government announced Wednesday that the
“Okefenokee Oar” would be presented to the game’s winner starting this year, in
the hopes of establishing an annual tradition.
“It’s just a way to increase the friendly competition in the game,” said Eric
Conrad, student government spokesman.
Presenting such a trophy follows in the tradition of other rivarly games. The
winner of Michigan-Minnesota gets the Little Brown Jug, the winner of
Minnesota-Wisconsin gets Paul Bunyan’s Axe and other teams have also exchanged
quirky items in longstanding rivalries.
The oar, which will be presented to the student government president of the
winning university, is carved from a 1,000-year-old cypress tree cut from the
Okefenokee Swamp, according to student government. The swamp straddles the
Florida-Georgia border.
The oar is “supposed to symbolize the area that has always been fought over by
the states,” Conrad said.

Kiffinhttp://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Lane+Kiffin/'s
off-field comments have twice earned him reprimands from the Southeastern
Conference this season. But now he's finally getting mad props -- assuming
people still give mad props -- thanks to the rapper Lil
Waynehttp://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Lil+Wayne/.
In Lil's newest track, Banned From
TVhttp://en.musicplayon.com/play?v=101910Lil_Wayne___Banned_From_Tv__No_Ceilings_Album,
the Southern rapper includes this line, Smoke weed, talk s--- like Lane
Kiffin. Now Lane Kiffin has acknowledged the endorsement via Twitter,
tweeting today, looking forward to another great practice today and a huge
game Saturday ... also a huge shout-out to Lil Wayne for boosting our street
cred!

Yep, two of the South's top gangsters are already in fine form. As for fans?
Well, UT fans, are already talking about, wait for it, the recruiting
benefits of Lil Wayne's lyrical endorsement. Wrote a reader, Alan, this
morning in an e-mail to me, Should help with recruiting. Especially in
South Florida, Louisiana, Atlanta and Memphis.

But why stop with recruiting help? Now that he's been bound and gagged by
the SEC, Lane Kiffin should hop on the gangster train and play this for all
it's worth.

Lil Wayne's past is dotted with controversy, including being arrested three
times for drug-related issues, Wayne now faces sentencing in February
on a weapons
charge for which he has already plead
guiltyhttp://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Music/10/22/new.york.lil.wayne/index.html.
He's expected to serve a year in prison. Notwithstanding his criminal
history, he's also an acknowledged sports fan, having memorably appeared on
ESPN's Around the Horn earlier this year and debated sports journalists on
issues of the day. In a sad day for sports journalists everywhere, Wayne
triumphed.

Anger? What anger? I was NEVER angry. I'm was just concerned that his
showboating ALMOST cost us the TD. Kicking or throwing the ball in the
stands certainly deserves a penalty, but they wouldn't call a TD back for
it. As far as getting over it, I'm already past it. Meyer is the coach and

Yes, Dustin Doe did a bad thing. But, I have to wonder why all this anger
 about it.

Are we really as bad as Miami because Doe took two steps in a
 showboating
 style?

Have we really become the manifestation of evil because of it?

Where was all this anger last season when Brandon Spikes kicked the ball
into the stands? Or, where was it a couple of years ago when Travis
 McGriff
threw the ball in the stands.

Doe made a boo boo. So, let's get over it. I would remind everyone that
was the first defensive touchdown of the year. Leon, you were there,
 didn't
you get sick of the cowbells? Well, the whole team was. Urban Meyer even
mentioned it later in some post-game interview.

Have we forgotten this was the first time the Gators have won in

the Gators' opponents when there was a big spread. I just can't bring myself
to do that, even though I realize I'd be picking against the spread and not

Anger? What anger? I was NEVER angry. I'm was just concerned that his
showboating ALMOST cost us the TD. Kicking or throwing the ball in the
stands certainly deserves a penalty, but they wouldn't call a TD back for
it. As far as getting over it, I'm already past it. Meyer is the coach and

Yes, Dustin Doe did a bad thing. But, I have to wonder why all this
 anger

Urban Meyer
 even
mentioned it later in some post-game interview.

Have we forgotten this was the first time the Gators have won in
 Starkeville
since 1985? Wasn't that the Charlie Pell era?

Randy, I'm not just trying to pick on you here, but your email seemed
 like
 a
good place to bring it up.

No, we don't need to have any repeats of it. But, yes, Urban Meyer will
deal with it. Let's all get over it and congratulate the kid, after he
 does

I agree with Steve AND Randy. If Dustin had tucked that ball the way he
 is
supposed to and waited until after he crossed the goal line to relax/show
off, we wouldn't be having this conversation. We might be having one
 about
the 15 yard penalty he might have gotten for celebrating, but his

What a week for Tennessee! Volunteers coach Lane Kiffin coached the team
in
the ugly orange uniforms to yet another moral victory, beating Alabama
10-12
when the Tide's gargantuan defensive tackle Terrence Cody (6-foot-5, 354
pounds) busted through for his second blocked kick of the game on a
potential game-winning field goal by Tennessee kicker Daniel Lincoln.

Who needs actual wins when you can get moral victories over the top two
BCS
  teams?

If there is one thing Kiffin has proved at Tennessee, it's that nepotism
can work. The Vols have played some very good teams close this year. The
biggest reason? He was smart (or related) enough to get his father Monte
Kiffin to join his staff. The elder Kiffin, the defensive mastermind
behind
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' famed Cover 2 defense, has the Volunteers
playing
  some stifling D this year.

After the loss to Alabama, Lane Kiffin shockingly opened his mouth in
regard to perceived bias by SEC officials, who failed to penalize Cody
for
removing his helmet after the final blocked kick ended the game. He also
pointed out that the officiating crew called eight penalties for a total
of
68 yards on Tennessee, while Alabama was flagged just once for 10 yards.

SEC commissioner Mike Slive responded by reprimanding the first-year
Volunteers coach, and warning him of a possible suspension if he is
  disciplined again this year.

So in honor of Kiffin's latest reprimand, I'm using a picture of Lane
Kiffin doing what he does best: talking. This week's Caption Planet
selection has the Vols coach giving some important advice to Tennessee
quarterback Jonathan Crompton on the sideline.

Man, I heard the Big Ten was supposed to be a cakewalk.

The funniest thing about this, Helen, is seeing that you were the one to report
it to Gatortalk. ;-)

It's interesting to see that Kiffin and his toothless followers think having
Lil Wayne mention Kiffin is a good thing. Or that saying someone talks sh*t is
a compliment. Lil Wayne's from the ATL, right? Well, so am I... and, believe
me, when we say someone is talking sh*t, we do not intend that as a boost to
the person's street cred. Kiffin just made an even bigger ass of himself.

Lane Kiffin's off-field comments have twice earned him reprimands from the
Southeastern Conference this season. But now he's finally getting mad props --
assuming people still give mad props -- thanks to the rapper Lil Wayne. In
Lil's newest track, Banned From TV, the Southern rapper includes this line,
Smoke weed, talk s--- like Lane Kiffin. Now Lane Kiffin has acknowledged the
endorsement via Twitter, tweeting today, looking forward to another great
practice today and a huge game Saturday ... also a huge shout-out to Lil Wayne
for boosting our street cred!

Yep, two of the South's top gangsters are already in fine form. As for fans?
Well, UT fans, are already talking about, wait for it, the recruiting benefits
of Lil Wayne's lyrical endorsement. Wrote a reader, Alan, this morning in an
e-mail to me, Should help with recruiting. Especially in South Florida,
Louisiana, Atlanta and Memphis.

But why stop with recruiting help? Now that he's been bound and gagged by the
SEC, Lane Kiffin should hop on the gangster train and play this for all it's
worth.

Lil Wayne's past is dotted with controversy, including being arrested three
times for drug-related issues, Wayne now faces sentencing in February on a
weapons charge for which he has already plead guilty. He's expected to serve a
year in prison. Notwithstanding his criminal history, he's also an acknowledged
sports fan, having memorably appeared on ESPN's Around the Horn earlier this
year and debated sports journalists on issues of the day. In a sad day for
sports journalists everywhere, Wayne triumphed.
