[Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa held by late Dempo equaliser
Sporting Clube de Goa held by late Dempo equaliser In the Goan Derby which lived up to expectation, Sporting Clube de Goa was held to a 2-2 draw by Dempo Sports Club in the HERO I-League at PJN Stadium, Fatorda, on Saturday. The match was tied 1-1 at the lemon break. Sporting Goa handed Victorino Fernandes the captain’s armband as Anthony Wolfe did not start the game, after not fully recovering from a shoulder injury. Victorino led by example with a brave header to equalize. The Flaming Oranje thought they had done enough when Odafa Okoli netted his first goal for his new club, but there was still a twist in the tale. Afghanistan captain Haroon Amiri marked his return from international duty with a splendid brace. Amiri gave Dempo the lead in the first half and later earned his side a point after equalizing at the death. Dempo’s Amiri was given his opening goal on a platter, when the Sporting Goa custodian Lalit Thapa spilled the ball from a Jewell Raja corner kick, which allowed Amiri to pounce and fire in the opener. Sporting Goa created good chances and the question on everybody’s mind was when would they finally take advantage and convert. Sporting Goa’s Odafa Okoli’s had an instinctive header saved and moments later Odafa slipped the ball through for Victorino but he could not find an opening. Syrian International Mahmoud Al Amna also came close when he hit the side netting. Sporting Goa could not have scripted it better when Mahmoud chased a loose ball down the right side and spun it in for Victorino to head it into the back of the net and equalize deep into injury time of the first half. Twenty minutes into the second session as Dempo resorted to aggression to keep Odafa at bay he still managed to carve out an opportunity. Hero of the Match Cajetan Fernandes floated in a neat corner kick with Odafa rising highest to thump home with his head. Just as Sporting Goa was on the verge of registering their first victory of the season, Dempos’ Haroon Amiri popped up to head over the Sporting Goa goalkeeper Lalit Thapa and level things up in the 89th. -- CONNECT WITH US: www.sportingclubedegoa.com www.sportingclubedegoa.wordpress.com www.facebook.com/sportingclubedegoa.officialpage www.twitter.com/sportingoa -- CONNECT WITH US: www.sportingclubedegoa.com www.sportingclubedegoa.wordpress.com www.facebook.com/sportingclubedegoa.officialpage www.twitter.com/sportingoa

Bengaluru are starting the first of three home games on the trot and their Coach Ashley Westwood believes his team are peaking at the right time and wants his players to stay focussed and concentrate. “Sporting Clube de Goa has improved in the last few weeks. They’ve got two really capable forwards now. They look a rebound side,” remarked the Bengaluru Coach. “We have been playing some good football. The introduction of Odafa has helped lift our team,” remarked the Sporting Goa Coach Mathew D’Costa. The other danger man for Sporting Goa is Captain Anthony Wolfe who is currently enjoying a good run in form, netting 3 goals in the last two games which took his tally for the season to 15 in all competitions. Bengaluru are second in the standings with 17 points from ten matches and will be looking to close in on league leaders Mohun Bagan who are currently enjoying a four point lead and a game in hand. Sporting Goa is bottom of the table with 5 points from ten matches and a win would see them move above Shillong Lajong who has 7 points from nine games. [Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa and Shillong Lajong do battle in crucial tie
*Sporting Clube de Goa and Shillong Lajong do battle in crucial tie* Sporting Clube de Goa will look to move onwards and upwards when they take on Shillong Lajong FC in the HERO I-league, at PJN Stadium, Fatorda, in Goa, on Saturday. The kick off time is 7pm. The Flaming Oranje has collected 4 points from nine games, while Shillong have 6 points from eight outings and are also eyeing victory in this encounter. Sporting Goa believes that they are much better than where they are presently placed on the league table and will strive to prove it by getting the 3 points which are up for grabs on Saturday. The Goan outfit rallied the troops just seven days back when they held Kingfisher East Bengal to a 2-2 draw after coming back from two goals down to rescue a valuable point. This has done their confidence the world of good and they will now be looking to build on that performance. Shillong on the other hand sat out the last round. In their last game before the International break they were handed a 1-2 defeat by Salgaocar at the same venue. The danger man for the North-East outfit is their marquee player Trinidad and Tobago forward Cornell Glen who has found the back of the net six times so far. Sporting Goa’s marquee striker Anthony Wolfe who also hails from Trinidad and Tobago will look to add to his tally of 3 goals. Both players will put their friendship on hold for 90 minutes as they search for success for their respective teams. [Goanet] Fwd: Wolfe’s brace cancels out Ranti’s brace on Super Saturday
*Wolfe’s brace cancels out Ranti’s brace on Super Saturday* Man of the match, Anthony Wolfe netted a second half brace as Sporting Clube de Goa drew 2-2 with Kingfisher East Bengal in an entertaining HERO I-League encounter, at Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Saturday. East Bengal led 1-0 at the interval through the boot of the I-League’s current top goal scorer Ranti Martins. East Bengal took the lead on the half hour mark, when Milan Susak played an ambitious long ball forward from the defence which picked out Ranti Martins and he wonderfully controlled it before blasting into the back of the net. East Bengal made a double substitution at half time bringing on Arnab Mondal and Harmanjot Khabra in place of Mohammed Rafique and Raju Gaikwad who had picked up a yellow card just before the breather. Sporting Goa also made a change, bringing in Victorino Fernandes for Beevan D’Mello. Sporting Goa started to dominate early on but it was East Bengal who increased their lead after Ranti Martins curled in a beautiful free kick from the edge of the box, to score his second of the game and his twelfth of the season. Sporting Goa made a substitution bringing on new signing Marcus Mascarenhas for another debutant Mahmoud Al Amnah. They now had fresh legs on either wing with Victorino and Marcus who provided plenty of pace to put their opponents on the back foot. Sporting Goa continued to pile on the pressure and was rewarded when a looping ball fell nicely in the danger area for Anthony Wolfe to take a snap shot and it got a slight touch of an East Bengal defender before entering the net. Sporting Goa carried on growing in confidence and probing further afield. Odafa who was being marked tightly, managed to find some space and his cross was met by Victorino whose shot looked like it was entering the net, before Wolfe tapped it in on the goal line to make sure and draw the Flaming Oranje level. In the closing exchanges, Sporting Goa continued to maraud forward but could not find the winner and in the end both teams had to be content with a point each. Sporting Goa has now collected 4 points from nine outings while East Bengal move up to 13 points from eight matches. [Goanet] Fwd: Odafa to debut as Sporting Clube de Goa take on East Bengal
*Odafa to debut as Sporting Clube de Goa take on East Bengal* A new look Sporting Clube de Goa will be hoping to turn the tide when they take on Kingfisher East Bengal in round 12 of the HERO I-League organised by the AIFF at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium, Kolkata on Saturday. The kick off time is 4.30pm and is being screened live on Ten Action. The mood in the Sporting Goa camp has changed since the arrival of the new signings. Nigerian Striker Odafa Oneyka Okoli is expected to make his debut for the Flaming Oranje along with Syrian International midfielder Mahmoud Al Amna. Local players Marcus Mascarenhas, Alber Gonsalves and Glan Martins have also been registered and it will be interesting to see if Coach Mathew D’Costa utilises them. Sporting Goa will be without the services of goalkeeper Ravi Kumar, defender Sandesh Jhingan and striker Sumeet Passi who are away on International duty with the India U-23 team. While Sporting Goa has enjoyed a nice two week break to recover, replenish and restructure, East Bengal have been busy in the AFC Cup. They recently lost to Singapore outfit Balestier Khalsa 1-2 and drew with Hong Kong champions Kitchee 1-1. East Bengal’s biggest threat comes from the I-League’s current top goal scorer Ranti Martins who has netted an awe-inspiring 10 goals from seven games for the Red and Gold. East Bengal is currently 5th in the standings with 12 points from seven outings, while Sporting Goa is currently bottom with 3 points from eight matches. So will Odafa or Ranti prove to be the match winner for their respective side is anybody’s guess? One thing is for sure when you add former Sporting Goa Hero Dudu Omagbemi in to the equation for East Bengal there is certain to be a lot of fireworks and a game really not worth missing. [Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa sign up Marcus and Mahmoud
*Sporting Clube de Go**a sign up Marcus and Mahmoud* Ahead of the second phase of the I-League, Sporting Clube de Goa have increased their attacking options with the timely signings of Goan striker Marcus Mascarenhas and Syrian International midfielder Mahmoud Al Amna, in Panjim on Thursday. Both players boarded the flight to Kolkata where the Flaming Oranje faces a crucial game against Kingfisher East Bengal on Saturday. Marcus was a key member of the Goa Santosh trophy team that the lifted the cup in 2009 where he scored half a dozen goals, including a hat-trick against Maharashtra which helped the state progress to the semi-finals. The twenty eight year old played for Laxmi Prasad in the Goa Pro League this season. Previously he was with Salgaocar FC for four years after joining from Sesa FA where he had an impressive two year stint earlier. Marcus started his youth career with Salcete FC and also represented them in the GFA second division. “Sporting Clube de Goa is an institution I have respected for a very long time. Many Goan players have made their careers here,” stated Marcus. Mahmoud is an attacking midfielder with vast international experience, having been capped 78 times for his country Syria and has scored on 23 occasions. He is not new to India as he has played in the Nehru Cup. Apart from successful seasons with Al-Ittihad the champion club of Syria, the 32 year old has had playing stints with top clubs in Iran and Iraq before finishing of last season with Malysian Super League side Sime Darby where he played 26 matches and scored six goals. “This is an exciting time in my career. I have heard many good things about the club from friends and I want to be part of the clubs history,” remarked Mahmoud. “Mahmoud is a creative midfielder and will increase our scoring opportunities, while Marcus has got speed and is a lethal finisher,” explained Sporting Clube de Goa President Peter Vaz. [Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa register Alber and Glan
*Sporting Clube de Goa register Alber and Glan* Sporting Clube de Goa have injected some young Goan blood into their squad after registering Alber Gonsalves and Glan Martins for the second phase of the I-League, in Panjim, on Tuesday. After joining from Sesa Football Academy in the summer, the twenty year old Glan made four appearances for the Flaming Oranje in the Goa Pro League. After suffering an injury Glan worked hard in training to force his way back in to the Coaches plans. “Glan is a good defensive midfield player, who has the ability to win the ball and unlock opposing defences with his ball distribution,” remarked the Sporting Clube de Goa Head Coach Mathew D’Costa. Alber who turns twenty five this month, netted five times for Sesa Football Academy in the first round (nine matches) of the Goa Pro League, which caught the attention of the Sporting Goa management. He has been training with the club for the last three months and has shown promise. “Alber is most constructive on the wing, where he can use his pace to burst forward and cross or is equally dangerous cutting in and having a shot at goal,” explained Mathew. [Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa seek Odafa’s scoring touch
*Sporting Clube de Goa seek Odafa’s scoring touch* As soon as they knew that the three time golden boot winner Odafa Oneyka Okoli was available, Sporting Clube de Goa were the quickest of the blocks and succeeded in getting the prized signature. The transfer formalities were completed at the clubs headquarters in Panjim, today. Odafa had rejoined Churchill Brothers at the start of the season hoping to guide his former club back to I-League glory, but after the club were not allowed to take part in this seasons I-League, Odafa had been getting a little restless when the Goa Pro League came to an end. Sporting Goa is currently bottom of the I-League table with just three points from eight matches. The recent introduction of the defensive duo Sandesh Jhinghan and Miguel Garcia steadied the ship. It’s now goals they are after. They have dominated teams and created ample opportunities but have frustratingly fallen short inside the opposition’s box, with only three goals so far. With Churchill Alemao giving his blessing for the sake of his favourite football son’s career and the better interests of Goan football, it looks like Odafa joining Sporting Goa is a marriage made in heaven. Speaking on the occasion, Odafa expressed his happiness in being back in the top flight of Indian Football and promised to take up the challenge of putting Sporting Goa back on the map. “I am delighted to have signed for the Flaming Oranje. Their current position does not give a true account of the pedigree and the stature of the club and I will play my part in helping my new team mates get back on track,” remarked Odafa. Odafa’s journey in Indian football started in 2003 in Kolkata with Mohammedan Sporting, before moving to Bangladesh for a short stint with Muktijoddha. He soon returned to India in 2005 with Churchill Brothers where his sheer athleticism and eye for goal started to flourish. Between 2007and 2010 he was the I-League’s highest goal scorer for three straight seasons, while also helping Churchill Brothers to win the I-League in 2009. His success led to a big money move to Kolkata where he donned the colours of Mohun Bagan for three years before moving back to Varca. “The name Odafa Onyeka Okoli is synonymous with goals in Indian football. We believe his addition to the team will give us that much needed boost. His track record speaks for its self,” stated Sporting Clube de Goa President Peter Vaz. *Sporting Clube de Goa take on Bharat* Sporting Clube de Goa take on new entrants Bharat FC in round nine of the HERO I-League at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mhalunge-Balewadi, Pune on Wednesday. The kick off time is 7pm. This is the final round before the I-League club’s take a two week break to accommodate the National team’s World Cup qualifiers and so both teams would be looking to sign off on a high. In their last match Bharat were defeated by Mumbai FC 0-2 and will be relieved to have the services of Vignesh Gunashekar and Dharmaraj Ravanan who come back from suspension. Bharat’s New Zealand striker Kris Bright is in good form with three goals to his credit so far and with his height possesses an aerial threat. Bharat can also count on goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya who has already picked up two HERO Man-of-the-match awards this season. In their last game, the Flaming Oranje lost out 1-3 to Bengaluru FC. Sporting Goa Coach Mathew D’Costa knows he has a talented squad at his disposal which has just started to find their form, but it is the killer instinct in front of goal which has been the biggest challenge. In their last game, Marquee player Anthony Wolfe netted his first I-League goal of the season and in the previous match against Pune, Goan striker Victorino Fernandes got off the mark and so the tide looks to be turning slowly in the right direction for the Flaming Oranje. Bharat FC is currently tenth in the standings with 5 points from six games, while Sporting Goa is eleventh with three points from seven matches. [Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa sign Sandesh Jhingan
*Sporting Clube de Goa sign Sandesh Jhingan* With an aim to strengthen their back line, Sporting Clube de Goa has completed the signing of robust defender Sandesh Jinghan after the transfer was given the green signal by the Aiff on Saturday afternoon. Having practiced with the club for the past few days, Sandesh has flown with the team to Mumbai, where the Flaming Oranje will meet Sandesh’s former club, Mumbai FC on Sunday. The 21 year old was a revelation in the ISL for Kerala Blasters, where he was named as the Emerging Player of the tournament. Despite getting many offers from other clubs including in Europe, Sandesh decided to sign for Sporting Goa as he was wanted to join an ambitious club. “After receiving a lot of interest from many respected clubs, I decided to join Sporting Clube de Goa as I wanted to align with their ambitious vision,” explained Sandesh. “I also have a lot of friends at the Clube,” added Sandesh, referring to the Sporting Goa players he met while part of the India U-23 team last year. Standing 6 feet 2, the tall defender started his professional career with United Sikkim where he helped the team get promoted to the I-League, along with Baichung Bhutia and company in 2012. [Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa ease past Churchill Brothers
*Sporting Clube de Goa ease past Churchill Brothers* Aman Govekar netted a superb hat-trick as Sporting Clube de Goa eased their way past Churchill Brothers Sports Club 4-1 in Gfa’s U-14 League at DSYA ground, Seraulim, on Friday. Sporting Goa led 3-0 at the breather. Sporting Goa came close to opening the scoring right from the kick off when Aman shot onto the post and from the rebounder Ashley Noronha’s header flew back off the cross bar. Churchill breathed a sigh of relief, but it was a sign of things to come. Aman confidently gave Sporting Goa the lead within the first five minutes when he drove the ball low into the corner from team mate Shanon Viegas’ cross. Within seven minutes, Aman netted his second of the game after latching on to a pass from Nikhil Correira, before stroking the ball home. Just before the interval, the Flaming Oranje continued to expose the defensive naivety off their opponents when Aman’s cross along the danger area was guided in by Omkar Parwar. Two minutes after the restart, Sporting Goa were rampant as Shanon showed some creative fluidity in the box with a neat turn to lay the ball on a platter for Aman to steal in and grab his hat-trick. The young Churchill Brothers players showed real heart and determination to push forward at every opportunity despite the early setbacks. They were rewarded for their efforts when Joan Rodrigues slotted in after the Sporting Goa goalkeeper failed to gather a high looping free kick. [Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa and Salgaocar to do battle
*Sporting Clube de Goa and Salgaocar to do battle* Sporting Clube de Goa and Salgaocar Football Club will battle it out in a round 4 match of the Aiff’s I-League at PJN Stadium, Fatorda, on Sunday. The kick off time is 4.30pm. Both Goan clubs are still in search of their first win and will looking to put that right. Sporting Goa drew their opening match with East Bengal and then was defeated by Dempo, to leave them with 1 point from two matches. Salgaocar drew their opening game with Pune, before suffering a narrow defeat to Royal Wahingdoh and very recently were held to a goalless draw by Mohun Bagan. They are currently on 2 points from three games. Sporting Goa is still missing striker Victorino Fernandes through injury. Liberian-Australian Boima Karpeh who came on in the last match as a substitute could be given the nod to start the game. Salgaocar will give Scottish forward Daryl Duffy a late fitness test to see if he can be included in the team to boost the attack. At the Pre-match press conference Sporting Goa Coach Mathew D’Costa was all praise for his opposite number having worked under him as assistant at Vasco Sports Club. “I Know Derrick Pereira very well from my days at Vasco and I have a lot of respect for him. He will come with a tactical plan which makes for a very exciting game,” stated Mathew. Salgaocar Coach Derrick Pereira is looking forward to the local derby. “Goan derbies are always exciting, as the teams know each other inside out, it brings out the best in the local players and there is a great buzz from the Goan supporters,” remarked Derrick Pereira. When the two clubs met in the I-League at the same venue last season the match ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw, with a lot of twists in the tale. Much is expected from both sides in this Goan derby. [Goanet] Fwd: Salgaocar grab first win of the season
*Salgaocar grab first win of the season* Salgaocar Football Club overcame Sporting Clube de Goa 2-0 in round 4 of the Aiff’s I-League at PJN Stadium, Fatorda on Sunday. Salgaocar led 1-0 at the interval. Sporting Goa dominated possession and had far more chances on goal, but Salgaocar proved more critical in the final third to come away with the three points. Sporting Goa had Victorino Fernandes out injured, while new signings Miguel Garcia and Brandon Fernandes were suffering slight injuries which prevented them from making their debuts for the club. Right back Clemente Joseph was suspended, which gave an opportunity for Keenan Almeida to come into the starting eleven. Salgaocar also had key players out injured and gave youngster Aslon Oliveira an opportunity to shine. Scottish striker Daryl Duffy who is coming back from injury came on as a late substitute. Salgaocar took the lead deep into injury time of the first half when Gilbert Oliviera played a clever corner to Francis Kasonde who rolled the ball into the path of Bikash Jairu to stab home from close. Sporting Goa enjoyed a super spell in the second where they could have netted half a dozen times. Pratesh Shirodkar crossed into the danger area, but Boima Karpeh’s took a reflexive lunge and swipe at the ball which cannoned back of the post. Moments later, Boima tried to take the ball on himself as he waltzed past his marker but was met with equal intent by the Salgaocar custodian Subrata Paul who forced a corner. Sporting Goa continued the fantastic momentum with Ogba Kalu releasing substitute Don Bosco Fernandes with a pearl of a pass, but Don hesitated for a moment which allowed the Salgaocar goalkeeper half a second extra to get down and make his body big to block the shot. Then came the moment when Sporting Goa knew it was not going to be their afternoon. The ball fell to substitute Sumit Passi who tried to pull the ball past the goalkeeper, but this time Subrata spun his web and the ball stuck to his gloves. With eleven minutes to go, Sporting Goa defender Joyner Lourenco who was under extreme pressure from a Salgaocar attacker played a bouncing ball back to the goalkeeper, but as Ravi Kumar went to tame it and bring it under control the ball bobbled and slipped under his leg and into the back of the net. It was a case of missed chances for Sporting Goa, who will no doubt be disappointed with the way they lost out after dominating for large chunks of the game. Salgaocar’s goal scorer Bikash Jairu was adjudged the Hero man-of-the match, which was presented to him by the India assistant Coach Savio Medeira. New India Coach Stephen Constantine was watching on from the VIP box. PHOTO: (0352) Sporting Clube de Goa striker Anthony Wolfe chases down Salgaocar defender Augustin Fernandes. [Goanet] Fwd: Brandon Fernandes signs for Sporting Clube de Goa
*Brandon Fernandes signs for Sporting Clube de Goa* It’s been a long anxious wait but it has finally paid off. Young Goan football talent Brandon Fernandes has been given clearance to play for Sporting Clube de Goa who he has been training with since September. The International transfer certificate came a few days back and the club has now completed the registration with the Aiff today. It was one year ago that Brandon Fernandes scored to help usher Goa-India to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Mozambique and clinch the Lusofonia football gold medal. It was a proud moment for the whole of Goa. For someone who made his debut in the Gfa age group league at the age of nine, the last 365 days has been very unusual for Brandon as he has not played a single professional match, after frustratingly waiting for International clearance from South Africa. Brandon’s career started at a very young age where he played for the youth teams of Fransa and Velsao Pale, before making the move to Salgaocar where he started to gain a reputation as a promising talent. He represented Goa and later India at nearly all the age categories from thirteen to nineteen. In 2008 when Manchester United ran a skills competition in Goa, Brandon finished on top of the pile which saw him travel to the theatre of dreams at Old Trafford, in England where he stormed into the top ten in the skills category amongst a host of players from top nations. Brandon came back to Goa and continued to make headlines through his exploits on the field with club and country, also scooping accolades and recognition as a young sportsman by winning BIG FM and Geno awards. In 2010 his talent caught the attention of the ASD Academy, Cape Town in South Africa. It was not easy leaving his friends and family behind, but his rather ambitious nature encouraged him to pack his bags and follow his heart. During his stint in South Africa he would come back to represent the national team. He eventually played for Salt Water Blackpool in the South African second division. His sparkling performances allowed him to travel to Europe and have trials with the likes of Leicester City, Reading and Sunderland in England and also St Mirren in Scotland where he had to come home after sustaining an injury. Although he did not manage to bag the elusive contract in Europe, Brandon believes his experience to date has given him the perfect grounding. “Having played with foreign players in the academy and on trial, my confidence with the ball has improved. We were shown how to keep the tempo high when attacking which came from lots of repetition in practice,” remarked Brandon. Brandon’s child hood idol remains to this day as Cristiano Ronaldo, but he now models his game around Spanish attacking midfielder Isco. Brandon is just as hungry today as when he first kicked a ball and believes despite having a head start over his peers he has a little groundwork to catch up having watched from the stands for the past year. “I want to thank the Sporting Clube de Goa President Peter Vaz and the Flaming Oranje for giving me this opportunity to reignite my career,” remarked Brandon. His short term goals are to create assists and score goals for Sporting Goa and play his part in helping the team win major silver-ware. Thinking long term he wants to break into the senior national team and eventually fulfill his dream of playing abroad. “Brandon is a bright young Goan talent, we had no hesitation in signing him and believe if he can keep his head down and stay motivated he can carve out a long and illustrious career in the game,” stated Sporting Clube de Goa President Peter Vaz. [Goanet] Fwd: 9 men Sporting Clube de Goa edge out 10 men Salgaocar
*9 men Sporting Clube de Goa edge out 10 men Salgaocar* Sumeet Ghosh netted the winner as 9 men Sporting Clube de Goa edged out 10 men Salgaocar FC by a solitary goal in the U-19 League organsied by the AIFF at Cuncolim ground, on Friday. Salgaocar had overcome Sporting Goa by the same score line just four days back and so the Flaming Oranje were determined to make amends. The match took a sour note in the 64th minute when James Fernandes of Sporting Goa and Salgaocar substitute Domnic Soares were given their marching orders for an off the ball incident. Sporting Goa was further reduced to nine men in the closing stages when Jarmanjeet Singh was sent off for his second bookable offence. Sporting Goa had a first look at the goal when midfielder Quan Gomes tried his luck from thirty yards as the ball whistled just past the post. At the other end Salgaocar’s best effort fell to Naro Shrestha who could not make enough contact with the ball as he went for a volley. After the lemon break, Salgaocar left back Raja Rawat came close to breaking the deadlock when he overlapped down the flank and tried to catch the Sporting Goa custodian off guard with an explosive chip. Moments later Salgaocar substitute Liston Colaco rattled the post with a stinging drive. As the game progressed Sporting Goa started to threaten and look menacing. In the 66th minute Sumeet struck a low drive which took a wicked deflection off a Salgaocar defender, altering the trajectory of the shot and ended up flying in to the back off the net. Sumeet raced away to perform a front flip in delight as he was congratulated by his team mates in front of the team bench. [Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa complete signing of Miguel Garcia
*Sporting Clube de Goa complete signing of Miguel Garcia* I-League outfit, Sporting Clube de Goa completed their four foreigner quota after signing Portuguese defender Miguel Angelo Moita Garcia at Don Bosco ground, Panjim, over the weekend. Miguel is familiar to Indian football having recently played in the ISL tournament for North East United, although he admits Goa is a little bit warmer than the North East. “When I first came to the North East it was very cool, but soon started to warm up after the first month. Goa’s temperature is even hotter, but I will acclimatize. Miguel was part of the world famous Sporting Clube de Portugal Academy from the age of fourteen. “In Portugal it was an honour to play for the Sporting Club of Portugal and similarly I was attracted to the name and Infrastructure of my new club as they promote a Sporting culture in Goa,” stated Miguel. Miguel started his career as a right back and has now established himself as a centre back, where he will be mostly utilized for the Flaming Oranje. Miguel is a couple of weeks shy of his 32nd birthday, but can remember his teenage years fondly where he roomed and Schooled with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Ricardo Quaresma at SCP. As a defender, Miguel had to face the fancy footwork of these formidable wing wizards in training which sharpened his skills, especially his concentration and alertness. Miguel won the Taca de Portugal with SCP in 2007, but the fondest memories of his career to date are the two Uefa Europa League runners up medals he has picked up. The first came in 2005 when SCP narrowly lost out to CSKA Moscow. The second time was playing for Sporting Braga in 2011, where they were beaten by Portuguese rivals FC Porto. Miguel has also played in Italy for Reggina, in Turkey for Orduspor and in Spain for Mallorca. The other Portuguese outfit he has turned out for was Olhanense. “Miguel has played against the top strikers in the world from Alan Shearer to Radamel Falcao. His recent stint in India shows he has the proven credentials to adapt and excel. He also has strong leadership qualities which is important,” remarked Sporting Clube de Goa President Peter Vaz. Miguel looks certain to make his debut against Panjim rivals Dempo Sports Club in the I-League on Tuesday. [Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa held by Dempo
*Sporting Clube de Goa held by Dempo* In a fierce battle, Sporting Clube de Goa was held to a 1-1 draw by Dempo Sports Club in the U-19 I-League, organised by the AIFF at Don Bosco ground, Panjim on Tuesday. Both goals came before the lemon break. Sporting Goa took the lead after just seven minutes when Mauvin Borges sprinted down the right flank before delivering a perfectly weighted cross for James Fernandes to tuck into the back of the net. It did not take long for Dempo to be back on level terms, with Jayson Lucas finding the back of the net after a good build up. Sporting Goa dominated possession, but could not find any way through a stubborn Dempo defence. Mauvin came ever so close for the Flaming Oranje when he was put through, but his chip flickered of the cross bar. After the interval Sporting Goa continued to dominate, but were frustratingly crowded out on approaching the opponents goal. In the end both teams had to be content with a point each. Sporting Goa is currently on 5 points from five games while Dempo are on 3 points from seven matches. [Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa and East Bengal lock horns in I-League
*Sporting Clube de Goa and East Bengal lock horns in I-League* Sporting Clube de Goa will lock horns with Kingfisher East Bengal in round 1 of the I-League organised by the AIFF, at PJN Stadium, Fatorda, on Sunday. The kick off time is 7pm. Sporting Goa came back from 1-3 down recently to eventually overcome East Bengal 4-3 in the Federation Cup, which many believed was the game of the tournament after Sporting Goa striker Victorino Fernandes netted a breathtaking hat-trick. East Bengal Coach Armando Colaco defended his team’s performance in the recent Federation Cup, as most of the players were away with the ISL franchises. “Many players were away playing under different coaches and different styles in the ISL with not much rest and rehabilitation,” reasoned Armando in the pre-match press conference. Armando further stated that he would give a few youngsters a chance in the absence of some experienced players. “Dudu (Omambemi), Lalrindika (Ralte), (Harmonjot) Khabra and Gurwinder (Singh) are not fully fit and the likes of Abhishek, Abhinas and Sukhwinder may get a chance,” stated Armando. Sporting Goa Coach Mathew D’Costa expects this match to be just as exciting as the recent Fed Cup game. He had a few players who were doubtful with injury. The biggest loss will be Boima Karpeh who has not fully recovered from a knee injury. “Ogba Kalu and Anthony Wolfe will be the only two foreigners available for the game,” explained Mathew. Incidentally, the two clubs met at the same venue on the opening day two seasons back, where Sporting Goa playing with absolutely no foreigners managed to punch above their weight to hold East Bengal to a goalless draw in what was another thrilling encounter between the two sides. *Bengaluru move into Fed Cup final* Bengaluru FC overcame Sporting Clube de Goa 3-0 in the 36th Federation Cup semi-final organised by the AIFF at PJN Stadium, Fatorda, on Friday. Bengaluru led 2-0 at the interval. It was Sporting Goa who had first look at the goal when defender Kofi Dankwae got into a good position for a corner and flashed an instinctive shot at goal, but the Bengaluru custodian pulled of a fantastic save to deny him. As the game progressed, Bengaluru managed to surge ahead when Sean Rooney got on the end of a dangerous low cross to tap into an empty net. Before the break Bengaluru Captain Sunil Chhetri doubled the lead when he crept in the box to fire into the roof of the net. On the other side of the break, Anthony Wolfe came ever so close to pulling a goal back when his teasing shot from outside the box rebounded back of the post. In the closing stages as Sporting Goa committed men forward, substitute Robin Singh broke away and slipped the ball in for Eugenson Lyngdoh to tuck home Bengaluru’s third. The kick off time is 7pm. After losing two group games to Mumbai FC and Dempo Sports Club, Sporting Goa managed to turn the tide and beat Royal Wahingdoh 2-1, before coming from behind to upset the mighty East Bengal in a thrilling 4-3 victory. Bengaluru on the other hand have managed to stay unbeaten so far with victories over Salgaocar, Shillong Lajong and Pune FC, while being held to a draw by Mohun Bagan. The teams met in the first round of the Federation Cup last year, where Bengaluru triumphed in an amazing 5-3 encounter, but it was Sporting Goa who eventually qualified for the next stage. With at least one Goan team already guaranteed a place in Sunday’s final, it will be interesting to see if the Flaming Oranje can make it two. Bengaluru who won the I-League last year will be just as much motivated to qualify for the final to try an add to their trophy cabinet, which sets up a cracking encounter for the fans of both sides. *Dempo hold Sporting Clube de Goa to goalless draw* In a fierce Panjim derby, Sporting Clube de Goa was held to a goalless draw by Dempo Sports Club in the Aiff’s U-19 I-League at Sesa ground, Sirsaim, on Monday. Sporting Goa created half a dozen great chances in each half but failed to capitilise. Dempo custodian Alison Fernandes who recently joined from the Flaming Oranje came to his sides rescue on a number of occasions. Sumit Ghosh could have easily had a hat-trick in the first half. He hit the cross bar with a rasping free kick and moments later should have done much better with his shot after Akeraj Martins and James Fernandes did the initial spade work. Sumit was then unlucky when he saw his header from a free kick trickle just past the post. James Fernandes could have also netted a hat-trick for Sporting Goa. His volley from Quan Gomes’ cross beamed just past the post. In the second session, James was guilty of missing a sitter from handshaking distance and as the game progressed his powerful shot was pushed on to the post by the Dempo goalkeeper. In the closing stages, Dempo started to turn the tables with some quick attacks going forward. Vinit Bugde nearly broke the deadlock when his cross turned shot had the Sporting Goa flapping to turn the ball away to safety. At the death, Vinit’s stinging volley was just wide of the mark. [Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa held by Churchill to goalless draw
*Sporting Clube de Goa held by Churchill to goalless draw* Sporting Clube de Goa was held to a goalless draw by Churchill Brothers Sports Club in Gfa’s Goa Pro League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Saturday. Sporting Goa handed new signing Glenton Wolfe a debut at the heart of the defence. Glenton along with Brother Anthony Wolfe played for Churchill last season and both put up a stellar performance against their former employees. Churchill created chances to score, but for the most part defended tightly by putting large numbers of bodies behind the ball. Sporting Goa were severely hindered early on when Joyner Lourenco dislocated his shoulder, but managed to soldier on after receiving treatment on the sidelines. Churchill had the best chance of the first half, when Sunday Nwadialu stinging drive flew just past the post. After resumption, Sporting Goa came out all guns blazing with Victorino Fernandes, Anthony Wolfe and Mauvin Borges coming close to scoring, only to be stopped by the robust defending of Churchill. In the closing stages, Sporting Goa had the chance to steal victory when Royston D’Souza rolled the ball goal across the danger area, but Cajetan Fernandes’ shot flew over the bar. *PHOTO:* Anthony Wolfe sprints forward for Sporting Clube de Goa, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa -- CONNECT WITH US: www.sportingclubedegoa.com www.sportingclubedegoa.wordpress.com www.facebook.com/sportingclubedegoa.officialpage www.twitter.com/sportingoa
[Goanet] Fwd: Pune FC move into Durand finals
*Pune FC move into Durand finals* Pune FC scraped past Sporting Clube de Goa 2-1 in the Semi-finals of the 127 th edition of the Durand Cup at Raia Panchayat ground, on Thursday. The match was tied 1-1 at the interval. Pune FC took a shock lead in the 20th minute when the ball was crossed from the right flank to Bineesh Balan who took one of his trade mark strikes to silence the large home crowd. It did not take long for Sporting Goa to find a way back into the game when Captain Boima Karpeh timed his run to perfection to beat the Pune offside trap and equalize for the Flaming Oranje. The second session was equally as exciting and there were fantastic chances at both ends. Pune took their opportunity when they won a free kick on the edge of the box and Ryuji Sueoka curled the ball into the back of the net to regain the lead for his side. In the closing stages, Sporting Goa had a wonderful moment to level when substitute Victorino Fernandes was sent sprawling to the ground in the box. Anthony Wolfe stepped up for the Flaming Oranje but his spot kick was heroically saved by the Pune custodian. PHOTO: Sporting Clube de Goa’s Roystan D’souza looks to bring the ball under control. [Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa clash with Pune in Durand Semi’s
*Sporting Clube de Goa clash with Pune in Durand Semi’s * The battle royal continues as Sporting Clube de Goa take on Pune FC in the second Semi-final of the Durand Cup at Raia Panchayat ground, on Thursday. The kick off time is 3pm and entry is free. Sporting Clube de Goa qualified for the Semi finals after defeating United Sports Club 3-2 and Air India 4-1, which propelled them to the top of group B with 6 points. Pune defeated Churchill Brothers 3-0 and Vasco Sports Club 1-0 to top group D with 6 points and will be looking to continue their good form against Goan opposition. Sporting Goa Coach Oscar Bruzon watched Pune play against Vasco and came back to the training ground with a 12-point program for his players to follow for success, as they look to unravel the chinks in their opponents armour. “You have to be in love with the pass and the breaking move, just as a husband and wife come together to marry,” instructed Oscar during a light practice session on the eve of the big game. Oscar has come up against Pune three times and remains unbeaten against the Red Lizards. Last season in the I-League Sporting Goa defeated Pune 2-0 with Victorino Fernandes and Pratesh Shirodkar scoring to end Pune’s long unbeaten run in the league. In the away leg, Beevan D’Mello scored with a splendid strike for the Flaming Oranje as the teams drew 1-1. “If everybody is dancing the same dance, then we will come out on top,” remarked Oscar, addressing his players after practice. Sporting Goa Captain Boima Karpeh who has netted three goals in the competition so far will be playing against his former club, while Sporting Goa’s former Captain Mathew Gonsalves is set to make an emotional return with Pune, after leaving the Flaming Oranje in the summer after nearly a decade with the Goan club. [Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa hammer Air India to move into Semi’s
*Sporting Clube de Goa hammer Air India to move into Semi’s * Courageous Sporting Clube de Goa moved into the semi-finals after hammering Air India 4-1 in the final group B match of the Durand Cup at Raia Panchayat ground, on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Sporting Goa led 3-0 at the interval. Sporting Goa Coach Oscar Bruzon made two changes to the starting line up from the previous game. Creson Antao came into the defence in place of Keenan Almeida, while local boy Velito Cruz was drafted into the midfield to fill the boots of Rowllin Borges. Sporting Goa surged ahead inside the first fifteen minutes after Anthony Wolfe was sent crashing to the ground inside the box. Captain Boima Karpeh stepped up to place home the resulting penalty for the Flaming Oranje. Sporting Goa started to dominate proceedings and it was not too long before they doubled their lead when Cajetan Fernandes tapped in a rebound after Anthony Wolfe’s stinging drive was parried by the Air India goalkeeper. Just before the lemon break, Joseph Clemente produced a moment of magic as he struck an absolute gem of a shot from 30 yards which looped in over the goalkeeper’s head and sent the surprised crowd into raptures. Post resumption, Sporting Goa continued where they left off by switching the attack from flank to flank. Sporting Goa’s Anthony Wolfe who was looking menacing all game, sprung up to slot in the fourth to put the Goan outfit in a commanding position. In the closing stages, Air India came up with a deserving goal through substitute Neil Gaikwad, but it proved nothing more than a consolation for his side. [Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa look to qualify for Semi’s
*Sporting Clube de Goa look to qualify for Semi’s * Sporting Clube de Goa will look to qualify for the semi-finals when they take on Air India in the final match in group B, of the Durand Cup at Raia Panchayat ground, Goa, on Sunday. The kick off time is 3.45pm and entry is free. Sporting Goa won their opening match against United Sports Club 3-2. In the other match United Sports Club defeated Air India 2-1. Only one team from each group qualifies for a semi-final berth. Sporting Goa would only need a draw to qualify for the semi-finals, while Air India would need to win by a two goal margin to qualify and prevent USC’s chances of progressing. With all three teams still in contention for moving into the next round this final group game will be watched with keen interest. Despite only needing a point, there is only one thing on the Sporting Goa Coach Oscar Bruzon’s mind and that is winning the game. “We are not thinking about the next phase at this moment and are only fully focussed on victory against Air India,” remarked Oscar. Oscar took his squad to watch the USC/Air India encounter as part of the preparation for the final game. “Air India plays very compact and is a physical side, but I feel technically we have the players in every department to come away with the desired result,” reasoned Oscar. Oscar believes that this is the most high profile match of the season so far and that his players are charged up to deliver. “This is for sure the most important game of the season and my players are ready to put up a strong performance,” signed off Oscar. [Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa take on USC in Durand opener
*Sporting Clube de Goa take on USC in Durand opener* In what is set to be an explosive game, Sporting Clube de Goa will take on United Sports Club in the Durand Cup inaugural quarter final pool B match, at Raia Panchayat ground, Goa, on Wednesday. The kick off time is 3pm and entry to the venue is absolutely free. Sporting Goa’s new marquee signing, Trinidad and Tobago utility player Anthony Wolfe is set to make his long awaited debut for the club. Sporting Goa’s Spanish Coach Oscar Bruzon is banking on good home support as his team is made up of many Goans from the locality. “Beevan D’Mello and Velito Cruz is from Raia, besides Rowllin Borges, Mauvin Borges and Cajetan Fernandes are from the neighbouring Salcete village of Nuvem, so we are drumming up good local support,” remarked Oscar. Oscar is taking the tournament very seriously as he feels the Durand Cup has a prestigious history. “The Durand Cup is the oldest football tournament in Asia and third oldest in the world. We have heard of the tournament in Spain and it has a great history behind it,” enlightened Oscar. Interestingly, Oscar’s first I-League victory as Sporting Goa Coach came against United Sports Club in December 2012. Since then the two clubs have met three times in the I-League, with Sporting Goa winning once more and USC winning the other two encounters. All is set for another gripping match-up between the Goan and Kolkata outfit. *Sporting Clube de Goa 20-man squad for Durand Cup: * *Goalkeepers: *Kamaljeet Singh*, *Ravi Kumar *Defenders: *Keenan Almeida, Rojen Singh, Jovel Martins*, *Chandrashekar Chinta*, *Joyner Lourenco Clemente Joseph, Creson Antao *Midfielders: *Joseph Pereira, Beevan D’Mello, Rowllin Borges, Velito Cruz, Cajetan Fernandes, Royston De Souza, Mauvin Borges *Strikers: *Boima Karpeh*, *Anthony Wolfe*, *Sumeet Passi*, *Victorino Fernandes PHOTO: Sporting Clube de Goa’s Mauvin Borges attempts to drive forward in practice at Don Bosco ground, Panjim on Tuesday. [Goanet] Fwd: Stanly Rozario conducts training at Sporting Clube de Goa
*Stanly Rozario conducts training at Sporting Clube de Goa* Former Indian national team assistant Coach Stanly Rozario conducted a full practice session with the Sporting Clube de Goa senior team to fulfil the final module of his assessment as part of the AFC Pro Licence Course, at Don Bosco ground, Panjim recently. Stanly is one of fourteen Coaches completing the AFC Pro Licence course, which started in July last year. It was conducted for the first time in India under national team Coach Wim Koervermans and AIFF Technical Director Rob Baan. Stanly who has Coached Indian giants such as East Bengal and Mohun Bagan in the past thoroughly enjoyed coaching the Flaming Oranje players. “It is always nice to be coaching a team at the top level. The players understood all the instructions communicated to them,” stated Stanly. They play a free flowing brand of football and a lot of this is attributed to their Coach Oscar,” added Stanly. The experienced Indian Coach made a special mention of the young stars in the side. “There is a competitive environment here at SCG. The youngsters know that if they want to be break into the side then they have to be patient and work hard at every practice session. This is exactly what I witnessed today,” reasoned Stanly. Sporting Goa Head Coach Oscar Bruzon congratulated Stanly on a job well done. “I was fully confident in handing over the reins to Stanly for the session as I knew the players would be in safe hands,” said Oscar. Recently, AIFF Academy Technical Director and Head of Coach Education Scott O’Donnell also conducted a training session for Sporting Goa. Sporting Clube de Goa President Peter Vaz wished the AFC Pro Licence candidates good luck. “On behalf of Sporting Clube de Goa I wish Scott, Stanly and all the other 12 participants who have taken part in the AFC Pro Licence all the best with the course which will be highly beneficial in taking Indian football forward, signed off Peter. [Goanet] Fwd: Wolfe unveiled as Sporting Clube de Goa’s new marquee player
*PRESS RELEASE:* *Wolfe unveiled as Sporting Clube de Goa’s new marquee player* “Sporting Clube de Goa’s emblem is a lion and with the versatility of Wolfe adding extra bite to the attack, we are hoping to create the most ferocious formation in the I-League,” stated Sporting Clube de Goa President Peter Vaz, after unveiling Trinidad and Tobago National team utility player Anthony Wolfe as Sporting Clube de Goa’s new marquee signing at the Models office in Panjim, on Thursday. Wolfe first came under the Flaming Oranje radar when he performed spectacularly in the second half of last season for Churchill Brothers, where he helped them to win the Federation Cup. “I am delighted to have signed for one of the most exciting teams in Indian professional Football,” expressed Wolfe, moments after signing on the dotted line for Sporting Goa. Wolfe was part of the Trinidad and Tobago squad that qualified for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. “Going to the World Cup is a dream for any footballer. It is an experience that I will never forget,” reasoned Wolfe. Trinidad historically became the smallest nation to ever qualify for the FIFA World Cup with a population of around 1.3 million people, which is even smaller than the beautiful Indian state of Goa. During his time with the national team Wolfe worked under legendary Dutch Coach Leo Beenhakker, who has won titles with Real Madrid, Ajax and Feynoord. “I have learnt so much from Beenhakker. He along with many local Coaches has contributed a lot to football in Trinidad,” stated Wolfe. Since making his debut against Finland in 2003, Wolfe turned out in various positions for Trinidad including defence, midfield and attack, where he has netted three goals along the way. He has played alongside former English Premier League stars such as Dwight Yorke (Manchester United), Shaka Hislop (Newcastle United) and Trinidad’s all-time leading goal scorer Stern John. Early in his career Wolfe tasted success as he lifted the Trinidad league title with North East Stars in 2004 and two years later finished as the league’s joint top goal scorer with San Juan Jabloteh, before packing his bags to ply his trade in the US. When he was a youth, Wolfe was pretty nifty with a cricket bat also and represented various teams, but there came a time when he had to decide to devote full attention to football. “Brian Lara is a massive star in my country. I am also a huge fan of Sachin Tendulkar. They have both broken so many records which are truly inspiring for any sportsmen,” stated the athletic Wolfe. “I loved to play both games, but in the end I chose football,” said the thirty year old. Wolfe was partly persuaded to come to India after seeing fellow countrymen, Densill Theobold who previously played for Dempo and Shillong Lajong’s Cornel Glenn set up base in the country. “We welcome Anthony to the Flaming Oranje and I am sure he will make an immediate impact,” stated Sporting Goa Coach Oscar Bruzon. *PHOTO: Sporting Clube de Goa President Peter Vaz unveiling marquee signing Anthony Wolfe.* -- CONNECT WITH US: www.sportingclubedegoa.com www.sportingclubedegoa.wordpress.com www.facebook.com/sportingclubedegoa.officialpage www.twitter.com/sportingoa

*Laxmi Prasad move ahead* Tuff Laxmi Prasad Sports Club overcame Sporting Clube de Goa 2-0 in round eight of Gfa’s Goa Pro League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Wednesday. Laxmi led 1-0 at the breather. Laxmi had five former Sporting Goa players in their team, namely Freiman Peixote, Prajot Naik, Mackroy Peixote, Mohammed Ali and Valerio Rodrigues, who put up a determined performance against their former employers. Sporting Goa created chances in the midfield, but could not find the killer punch in front of goal. They were badly missing Victorino Fernandes who joined up with the India team recently. Laxmi took the lead just before the lemon break, after Alvito Miranda calmly scooped the ball high over the outrushing Sporting Goa custodian. [Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa to conduct SCG Grassroots Festival
*PRESS RELEASE* *Sporting Clube de Goa to conduct SCG Grassroots Festival* Whether you prefer the term “Jogo Bonita” or quite simply the beautiful game, young Goan football lovers can punch the air and say Viva, as Sporting Clube de Goa will conduct a Grassroot football festival on Sunday 28th September 2014, at Don Bosco ground, Panjim. The festival will kick off at 9am, but participants have to report prompt at 8.30am. The participants will consist of around 200 young wards from selected Schools and orphanages from the North of Goa in the U-12 age group. The club has also chalked out plans to facilitate players in South Goa at a later date, with a similar Grassroots project. The SCG Grassroots festival is another initiative taken by the club to promote football in the beautiful state. It is an extension of the deeply rooted commitment by the club to Goan football. Earlier in the year the club had held All-Goa trials to select players for the SCG Academy, which is situated at Don Bosco in Panjim. The Flaming Oranje has also adopted 3 Schools around Goa under the umbrella of the very popular and successful School Community Grassroots (SCG) Program. In living its motto of GROWING GOA’S GAME!, Sporting Clube de Goa is one of the few Sports institutions in the state offering a pathway that leads right from the grassroots, to the youth development stage and finally to the lucrative professional level for the more ambitious talents hungry enough to make a career from their passion. This is just the tip of the iceberg as the club has provided a platform for one player to ply his trade in the UEFA Champions League (Dudu Omagbemi). Playing for the national team is another avenue to explore. “Grassroots football provides the key to the beginning of the proud journey that can see you representing the country. When I was younger we did not have so many football festival experiences, but it is necessary to change the landscape of Indian Football”, remarked Sporting Goa striker Victorino Fernandes who is currently in the Indian national football team. Sporting Goa Head Coach Oscar Bruzon was equally enthusiastic about the SCG festival, “Grassroots football offers a form of social recreation in a safe environment, where participants can seek solace and feel truly cared for by the festival leaders who provide the opportunity to express themselves to the fullest with all the joy and excitement to boot,” stated Oscar. The SCG Grassroots festival is based on the FIFA model which introduces young participants to small-sided games and stations, arranged in a circuit format to bring out the FUN in the FUN-DAMENTALS of football. Sporting Goa also recognises the need that training should be age specific in accordance with the characteristics and certain stages in child development, so that the young wards can truly imbibe the values of the world’s no.1 sport which include equality, healthy living, teamwork and social inclusion.
