If you deploy your application to a different application ID, does the
problem still persist?

Hi Michael,

While App Engine does host Google Docs Story Builder, it isn't directly
affiliated with it. You might have better luck posting to the official
Google Docs help forum, located at

When you say, "with some modifications" did you edit the app.yaml file or
any PHP file?

If so, can you post those modifications here?

The choice between Cloud SQL and the NDB Datastore is basically the choice
between SQL and NoSQL stores. If you need a primer on these issues, I'd
recommend searching Google for "SQL vs NoSQL" and reading articles such as
this one .

As PK said, this doesn't sound like a server-related issue. Do your DIVs
require server-side assets (images, JS files) for some reason?

So I have two things to say:

(1) Jeff's post was correct: even if your idea was truly novel, it wouldn't
be too difficult for a larger company to steal it even if you launch your
idea into an actual product. Take this TC article as an example:
http://techcrunch.com/2012/12/21/facebook-poke-app/ . In short, Facebook
built a competitor to SnapChat (a startup messaging company) in just under
2 weeks.
(2) I don't believe Google accepts new product ideas but if you still
insist on trying, you could try sending a postal letter to Google HQ,
addressed to their public relations department.

Yes, there is a solution: use the current administration console.

You can't configure cPanel, but all the options you need are configurable
through the Google Apps and Cloud consoles. Email and backup is supplied
through Google Apps (configure Gmail and Drive). DNS can be supplied
through Cloud DNS. Hosting is available through App Engine and Compute
Engine.

I don't know why you need FTP; can you expand upon that?

Figured it out (finally!). I had been logging elements of the request
(params, body, etc.) as I sorted through other issues. But you can only
instantiate a cgi.FieldStorage element once, so by the time I got to the
actual self.request.get('user_file'), it was already gone.

Classic case in which removing the debugging actually makes it work.

 I use IntelliJ to run each module separately. I have 4 modules running

 That way I can just press play and it will replace the resources and

 also boot only one module if I want.

 I had to code my own dispatch.xml behavior, since the appengine java

[google-appengine] Re: [JAVA] How to join two entity with app engine into the server ?

2014-04-22 Thread timh
Something I truly do not understand, is why so many people persist in
talking about tables (and all that "tables" implies) when when designing
applications using the datastore especially with so much documentation
available covering what the datastore does and how it works.
The datastore has been around since 2008, (and similiar datastores since
2000 and even earlier) this isn't new stuff.

It's just not a relational model and there is no SQL. If people don't sit
back and try and understand how it works
and what features it does have, they can't exploit its model and will
invariably make bad design decisions.

Is this because no one reads/understands documentation anbd won't explore,
or is a particular mindset so ingrained that any other way
becomes difficult ?

 Hi,

 If you're using Eclipse, take a look at this topic:
 https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/google-plugin-eclipse/9K0RkQID740

 Maven + app engine modules doesn't work quite well with Eclipse right
 now, and judging by the volume of messages in the topic above, I don't
 think we will see any improvement in a near future.

 While there is a Google I/O coming up, there is hope for a big capital
 letters announcement: "Behold, Servlets 3, Java 8 and better Maven +
 Modules + Eclipse integration for App Engine!".

 Do you think local testing is hard the way it is now? Try adding GWT to
 the mix and you'll end with more white strands of hair in your head... ;-)

Nope. As I mentioned, self.request.POST is UnicodeMultiDict([]).

On the other hand, self.request.params appears to have everything, but I
cannot get at the dictionary entry, as described below.

 I am curious about it too. I haven't a large number of tenants yeat but
would be nice to know how to handle it. But I have a feeling that the UI
will be the same and probably we will must to handle it developing the
tools to make administrative tasks on each tenant.

 I have done things a litle different. I have created a unique user for
login purpose on the empty namespace. After that i used this "universal"
user id to make a link with a namespace aware user. So basicly i have 1 x N
relationship without the need to keep the Tenants id on entities.

 Another thing I have done on empty namespaspace is keeping record for all
of them. So I have a Namespace entity which stores namespace data. I two
strategies to map tenants:

1) Google Apps. If client wants a personal domain, I use it to map to a
desired namespace

2) My subdomain. So the foo.mydomain.com would make the client access the
"foo" namespace

The only problem with this approach is that in both you must configure your
subdomain on Google Apps, and maybe that is why you are avoiding this
approach.

I fact i use same approach. The only diffence is that my cron query
namespace metadata and starts a Task Queue on each, once this api is
namespace aware. Of course there is the cost of this cron job, but compared
to tasks, it is little most of times.

Could you check that the tweepy directory is correctly formatted, i.e. you

[google-appengine] How to upload file with new dev_appserver

2014-04-22 Thread Devel63
The documentation makes it appear very simple to get the contents of an
uploaded file, but while I can do this with old_dev_appserver.py, I cannot
get it with the current dev_appserver.py (v1.9.2).

Here's a simple example:

http://localhost:8080/sync?cmd=tester";
enctype="multipart/form-data" method="post">

Username:

   - In old_dev_appserver.py, one could get the file in GAE via
   self.request.get('user_file'), but not with dev_appserver.py

   - WebApp2 says
   "Uploaded files are available as cgi.FieldStorage (see the
cgi module)
   instances directly in request.POST." But, request.POST is empty, and
   cgi.FieldStorage() does not contain 'user_file' either.

Strangely, if I print out self.request.params, I do see an element in the
UnicodeMultiDict that is (u'user_file', FieldStorage(u'user_file',
u'myfile.ico')). But when I try to get that element, either via named
access or just iterating over params, I cannot get it. Even if I do a
Len(self.request.params) I get one less than what I see, and the
'user_file' element is missing. If I do this with old_dev_appserver, the
Len(self.request.params) is correct.

How do I get user_file?

I use the IntelliJ plugin:

In any case, you can run each module separately with something like this:

 In order to run the local dev server I need to rebuild my entire

 typically takes a minute for a simple code change.

 I'm having a hard time iterating during local testing due to this. I'm
 using the same project structure as the sample modules app here:

Re: [google-appengine] Re: Dev workflow for Modules + Maven

2014-04-22 Thread Rafael
Aleem,

I use IntelliJ to run each module separately. I have 4 modules running in
different ports.

That way I can just press play and it will replace the resources and
classes with new ones, or I can just reboot one module at the time. I can
also boot only one module if I want.

I had to code my own dispatch.xml behavior, since the appengine java sdk
doesn't handle that: https://gist.github.com/mufumbo/6325670 (see comments

None of those match /storeavalue so AppEngine doesnt know what to serve.

You will need to add a handler for /storeavalue :)

Re: [google-appengine] Managed website hosting on Google Cloud Platform

2014-04-22 Thread Barry Hunter
Well AppEngine in particular and and the cloud platform in general, DOES
provide managed hosting. Nearly everything except maybe compute-engine is
managed (compute engine is only part managed).

Its just not a typical LAMP stack, and dont use cPanel to control it.

FTP -> Ok not really there. Uses more modern upload tech instead.
Email -> Use Gmail
DNS -> Use Cloud-DNS
Backus -> In theory you dont need to backup the Datastore, or cloud
storage, but CAN it if want to.

Google is doing something very different from being just another cPanel on
a cheap VSP hosting platform

I too got the same problem when implementing.But the reason is the Eclipse

recommend you to start over the whole client project so that R.java is

create and copy paste the code into your classes like MainActivity and

[google-appengine] Re: javax.script support on Appengine

2014-04-22 Thread Randy Balaban

I am having a similar issue where I always get a 0 value returned when I
try to use the ScriptEngine eval. By using Logger, I was able to determine
that there are NullPointerExceptions being generated. After further
inspection, it appears that GAE doesn't always return a valid script engine
(if ever), because it throws an exception when you try to use it.

My code looks like:

public double myEval(String JsFormulaStr ) {
double solutionValue = 0;
ScriptEngineManager mgr = new ScriptEngineManager();
ScriptEngine eng = mgr.getEngineByName("JavaScript");
if(eng == null) { // Added this block of code to prevent
java.lang.NullPointerException...
log.severe("Unable to get Script Engine." );
return 0;
}
try {
Object jsResults = eng.eval(JsFormulaStr);
solutionValue = Double.parseDouble(jsResults.toString());
return solutionValue;
} catch(Exception e) {
log.severe("[ERROR] in getCalculatedSolution_FromJS_ToDouble()::\n\t" +
"Formula String is: " + JsFormulaStr + "\n\t" + e);
return 0;
} }

Everything works fine if I run it locally as a WebApp (Both in Eclipse &
Netbeans. And within Tomcat & Glassfish 4.0).

Some of the strings which I tried to eval:

   - 62.0 / 100
   - 0.0 * 352.0
   - (0 - 428) * 1000
   - (0 - 597) * 1000
   - 73.0 / 100

NOTE: The 0's or 0.0's are from other evaluations which have failed in
previous calls. Since this function returns 0 on error.

According to Google's JRE Class
Whitelistthe
ScriptEngineManager and ScriptEngine classes are allowed. So I don't
understand why it isn't working as expected.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Randy

[google-appengine] how to maintain android package name for same code deployed on two different app engine instances

2014-04-22 Thread pankaj anand

We have two app engine instances running the same code for the sake of
testing and production server. We are using endpoints API. Our android app
which connects with both servers uses the same client code generated by
google app engine tools. Based on our need we just switch the server url
usingbuilder.setRootUrl(someUrl);

on our test project we have set the package name and sha1 key to generate
the android client id but we are unable to do so on production server
because of the same package name. It gives an error by saying that package
name should be unique. Now the problem is how do we maintain the code to
connect the app engine. Worst case would be to have two different projects
with different package name.

any other solution ?

[google-appengine] Catch-all URL with Flask when the path contains an URL

2014-04-22 Thread Amaury Martiny

Hi everyone!

I want to catch all the URLs in my Flask app, with this piece of code

@app.route('/')def catch_all(path):
return path

Just a basic app with shows the relative path of each page. So this works
fine for most of the paths (localhost/whatever/I/want for example prints
whatever/I/want).

EXCEPT in one case. For example if I type
localhost/foo/http://google.com/bar in the URL bar, what I expected to be
shown is foo/http://google.com/bar, but what I actually get is only bar. So
actually Flask finds the last valid URL and takes the path following this
URL.

Is there anyway to catch the real path of our URL?
I posted the same issue on stack
overflow:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/23164678/catch-all-url-with-flask-when-the-path-also-contains-a-url
but I think it might be more relevant here.

Re: [google-appengine] Re: Managed VMs - Limitations

2014-04-22 Thread David Gageot
Hi Kinesh,

Here's what I've seen at the european roadshow and other conferences :

(1) Manual Scaling: yes. Bounded (lower/upper): looks like a yes. Auto
Scaling: no
(2) The public version of Managed Vms will be based on Docker. So you'll
provide a Dockerfile. You then can install everything you want.
(3) I don't know
(4) I'm sure I understand your question
(5) You can install mongo of whatever on the managed vm. But it is a
disposable vm. So I wouldn't recommend it. But it can talk to other vms on
which Mongo is running.

David.

[google-appengine] Using Namespaces

2014-04-22 Thread SMF
Hi there

I have a few basic questions

1. If I have 1000+ Namespaces, how will they get displayed in the App
Engine Admin Console (Datastore Viewer),
Right now I have few and they are displayed in a dropdown box.

2. I have a Multi-Tenant app where each tenant has its own namespace. the
model and entities related to the tenant is within their respective
namespace except for the User entities each tenant can have multiple users.
thats why all users are stored without any namespace.

The user's UserId ,name and TenantId (also used as namespace) is stored in
the Users Model

After user log's in through Google , We Query this Model to Find the
Namespace of the logged in User, Once found we set it and use it for
reading / storing entities in their respective namespace.

My Question is What could go wrong with this approach ?, and do we have any
better solution for handling Multiple Tenants with Multiple User Accounts.
We need to do this without using Sub Domain Names and URL Paths (Containing
the namespace id or key)

3. We also need to have (CRON) Jobs which will run at a minimum of 3 times
a day to Query Some Entities and Update Some and Send the Report to the
Tenants users. In this case we would have to Query the meta data to get
list of namespaces, and then for each namespace query the desired entities.
This would increase the cpu and memory consumption, is there any better way
to run CRON on multiple namespaces.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks
Sarfaraz

[google-appengine] Redirect Loop on Login Attempt

2014-04-22 Thread tmaloney
I can login to appengine.google.com with my gmail.com domain email address,
but cannot login with my custom domain email address. I've tried all
browsers, clearing cache/cookies/etc. It is only for this account.

Chrome reports "This webpage has a redirect loop" when I type in
appengine.google.com and any direct page in that domain.

[google-appengine] Appspot failure "does not designate permitted sender hosts"

2014-04-22 Thread Rob Cochran
I have a very simple app that will take an Email and shoot the contents to
my website in PHP. This is for a CMMS website where users can open
workorders through an Email. Have not had any problems until just
recently. A user in Australia cannot create workorders and gets a failure
message which is attached below. It looks like the main failure is "does
not designate permitted sender hosts". What does this mean and is there a
way to fix this?

[google-appengine] How does SNI SSL certificates work on App Engine

2014-04-22 Thread Salar Rahmanian
Hi

I don't how SNI SSL Certificates work?

Can I just buy any SSL Certificate I want on the market and install them or
set them up as SNI ? Or only certain Certificates are SNI?

Of course the reason I am looking at this is to have SSL on a custom domain
for free.

I have looked at this:

https://developers.google.com/appengine/docs/ssl#server_name_indication_sni

But confused in particular about the type of certificate I have to buy to
use with app engine.

Your help and guidance appreciated.

Thank you.

[google-appengine] App Engine pricing details

Hello,

I am getting
"com.google.apphosting.api.ApiProxy$FeatureNotEnabledException: The Socket
API will be enabled for this application once billing has been enabled in
the admin console"
error in my android endpoints enabled application. I checked appengine's
pricing details, and saw that sockets API does not incur any additional
charges.

If I enable billing, will I get any free quota ?

Thanks

[google-appengine] Managed website hosting on Google Cloud Platform

2014-04-22 Thread Ádám Karácsony
Hi,

I've been trying to learn a way I could host and *manage websites on Google
Cloud Platform*, without success. As I understand now, It's possible to
host an instance of Wordpress on App Engine, but general hosting with FTP,
email, DNS, backup, etc. features are out of option and setting up an
instance of licensed cpanel is also undocumented.

Is there a solution? If not, will Google in the future provide adequate
platform for managed website hosting?

[google-appengine] Google Cloud Endpoint initialization

I have some initialization stuff that I'd like to do before GCE can be
used. How would I do this? I tried creating a ServletContextListener and
then calling a static method on my GCE but that doesn't work. In debugging
I can see that the GCEs static variables are not set when a method is
invoked.

The screenshot for jars attached

I referred some solution on the web they say about deleting
appengine-testing.jar, appengine-api-labs.jar, appengine-api-stubs.jar. But I
don't see any of the jar in the classpath. Besides the appengine needs all the
jars at runtime. It doesn't let delete any of the jars.

I tried removing the appengine-api-labs.jar and running but it doesn't work.
Can anyone please provide any help on this? How do I get rid of the error?

got it fixed by using a tricky way.

like this:

@property
def fjword_fjword(self):
return self.fjword.get().fjword

...

can't use get() in template like this:

 {{nword.fjword.get().fjword}}

[google-appengine] Daily Budget Setting no longer available in Google Cloud Console

2014-04-22 Thread Lawrence Mok

Since Google started migrating App Engine Billing to Google Cloud Console,
there are no longer an option to set a daily budget. (reference:
https://developers.google.com/appengine/pricing#change_budget). I am not sure
if this is intentional or just a miss, but this is very important to me as a
developer / start up founder.

One of the major reason I choose Google App Engine is that I can set a fixed
daily budget so that I won't get billing surprise because of any unexpected
event (e.g. sudden spike of visits / DOS attack - which happened to me before
but I was denied for a refund because Google told me an DOS attack causing the
reach of my daily budget is not an DOS attack (which I think it's nonsense
because if there is no daily budget, a scalable service can virtually give you
an unlimited bill), luckily it's the daily budget that protected me from a
potential bankrupt)

I hope someone in Google could clarify this ASAP, I believe many developers are
concerned about the risk of billing surprise and would take this as a major
factor of deciding which cloud service to use.

[google-appengine] API capabilities

· Does Google Course Builder support user single sign on from

· Does Google Course builder provide student activity/results via
either a Tin Can or SCORM convention

Please advise on what API/webservices are available and where we can find
the documentation on these.

[google-appengine] Re: Announcing a credit for App Engine applications with new custom domains

2014-04-22 Thread contact
Vinny,
I created an app engine web site, and then wanted to use my previously
purchased domain name to point at it. App Engine asked me to enroll in
Google Apps, which I obediently did. I set up my A, CNAME, MX records at
register.com per instructions, so far so good. Then I pointed my domain
name at the app eng site. But when I point my browser at my domain name,
get a Google error page saying:
"www.mydomainname.com points to the site "mysite.appspot.com" which does
not exist. Please contact the domain administrator."
But mysite.appspot.com does exist. I tried changing the mapping to
www.mysite.appspot.com but that doesn't work either.
The dns records are correct, a whois verifies this. I've already paid for
Google Apps, and still my domain wont point at mysite.appspot.com.
What needs to be addressed for this to work?

Can someone provide a suitable solution for this problem? The error is on
the line:
*private static final EntityManagerFactory emfInstance =
Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("transactions-optional");*
and
*EntityManager em = EMFService.get().createEntityManager();*

Thanks..

Since updating I've lost some of the button icons inside the Launcher.

[google-appengine] Problem starting more than 20 manual scale instances

2014-04-22 Thread droland

I have a paid app setup on the US app engine. When I try to start 20 or
more manual-scale instances, I get this error:
  "Error: ApplicationError: 3 The number of instances must be less than 20".

According to the very bottom of
https://developers.google.com/appengine/docs/python/modules/ page, the 20
instance limit only applies to "free apps". The limit for paid apps in the
US is 200. As I don't subscribe to a gae support package, I'm not sure how
to address this issue. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Maybe
"paid apps" refers to the "bronze/silver/gold" support packages rather than
just paying for usage of the platform?

[google-appengine] Custom domain taking me to myappid.appspot.com. >> Following the custom domain discussion on Stackoverflow

2014-04-22 Thread Chuy Cepeda
Hi everyone,

I've just posted into stackoverflow discussion related to custom domains,
see:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/817809/how-to-use-google-app-engine-with-my-own-domain-not-subdomain

My issue now is that both my naked domain and *www* subdomain are
appropriately configured to take me to my appengine app, see:
http://cl.ly/image/1k2i1j2P3N1z
http://cl.ly/image/0Q3O0W0e1C1h

Actually both http://cic.mx and http://www.cic.mx take me to my appengine
app. But the thing is that my custom domain is being replaced by
-myappid-.appspot.com and not serving directly. I obviously don't want to
handle my audience under appspot.com but under cic.mx.

What can I do??

[google-appengine] Wordpress installed to Google App Engine has infinite redirect loop on admin cp access

2014-04-22 Thread chris
I have installed Wordpress using the starter repository, with some
modifications for unrelated static content. Now when I attempt to use the
admin console, it redirect loops on https://www.kode54.net/wp-admin/. I can
provide any necessary configuration files if it can help anyone spot my
error.

[google-appengine] Nested divs not showing

2014-04-22 Thread greg
I have been trying for the past hour to get my nestetd Divs to display but
nothing.

Each div on its own works fine and soon as i include 2+. Fail.

Strangely enough when just loading just the html page in a browser
everything works perfectly. Run the app, and nothing shows. I know my css
and html is perfect as well.

Surely it cant be this hard, or some special way just to display divs??

Re: [google-appengine] Re: Configure JUnit test to suggest the missing datastore-indexes

2014-04-22 Thread Vinny P
The development datastore generates all of the needed indexes, so as long
as you're exercising every possible query there shouldn't be any missing
indexes.

If you insist on testing for missing indexes, you can set
setNoIndexAutoGento
turn off index generation and then attempt to call a query. If the
query
fails to complete, then the usual culprit is that the index is missing. You
can confirm that by looking at the logs, or you can automate it by using
the Logs API.

Re: [google-appengine] Regaining access to appids after migrating accounts

2014-04-22 Thread Vinny P
If you go to the appids in question (exampleid.appspot.com) is the
application still serving requests? If so, the original account is most
likely still valid; in that case you might want to visit the Google Apps
support forum to see about reactivating it.

Otherwise you'll probably want to file an issue on the tracker:

Yes, because the code in your link was intended to be run within a backend
module.

It depends how your application is architected and what your exact needs
are. For example, you can have the frontend instance put the data into a
task and return immediately. Then have a backend lease the tasks off a pull
queue and process them.

If the processing isn't time-sensitive (doesn't need to be processed
immediately), you can record the data into the datastore and process it at
a later time.

Re: [google-appengine] Cursor Related Errors in Task

2014-04-22 Thread Vinny P
Essentially you need to buy time for the data to fully move itself from App
Engine servers to Cloud Storage servers. You also need to hint to App
Engine to move the data in smaller chunks.

There's a couple of ways to accomplish this. In a previous email you said
that you're using the waitForOutstandingWrites method every 100 records.
Try using it more frequently, and in combination, decreasing the size of
the ByteBuffer being written to GCS.

If you feel comfortable using the JSON API, what you can also try is
writing multiple smaller files, then using
composeto
combine them into a single object (or just leave them as smaller
files,
there's nothing wrong with that).

[google-appengine] Re: Dev workflow for Modules + Maven

2014-04-22 Thread Gilberto Torrezan Filho
Hi,

If you're using Eclipse, take a look at this topic:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/google-plugin-eclipse/9K0RkQID740

Maven + app engine modules doesn't work quite well with Eclipse right now,
and judging by the volume of messages in the topic above, I don't think we
will see any improvement in a near future.

While there is a Google I/O coming up, there is hope for a big capital
letters announcement: "Behold, Servlets 3, Java 8 and better Maven +
Modules + Eclipse integration for App Engine!".

Do you think local testing is hard the way it is now? Try adding GWT to the
mix and you'll end with more white strands of hair in your head... ;-)
