[Harbour] Changelog file
Hi all, there is a way to split Changelog in more separate files (i.e Changelog.001, Changelog.002) to have a smaller current file size ? Is this name mandatory for SVN use? If not, we may use something like Chang1002 to have a single file for each year/month. I fully agree. By the way I'm not able to write one row of Harbour documentation: it's too far from my skills. Otherwise, if a group (I remember April White and Chen Kedem in the first time) of documentors will need some help for little tasks like proofreader for example, I'm available. ps. Hi all, me and some of my more skilled friends (and programmers) have experienced that the best technical books/docs are always written in english, so I think the documentation has to be written in english (by now). I've also examined the \doc folder and the only subfolder is \en-EN by now: there isn't a folder for spanish documentation (I haven't synched with svn today). Docs in other languages are welcome but I think it's better to have a complete (as possible) documentation, faq, howtos, in english before starting to translate in other languages or we will miss the goal. Hi all, maybe I missed something, and someone has already told it, but I think that the main goal for a documentation is to be always available, so an online documentation must be a plus, a side feature of an offline documentation. There are many files available in the \doc folder but I can't see if there is a file that organize them in any way, such as alfabetical or category order. I'm a user of ng guides that I use almost every day when I don't remember the syntax of a function of the properties of a class. I know it's a very old tool but it does the job very well: to show documentation in a fast and proper way without the need of being on line or to scan \doc folder in search of the right file: I don't know if there is a Linux version too. Another consideration is that many informations that can be useful in "advanced" documentation can be borrowed from this mailing list: personally I'm registering the messages that I think of important for me. Finally another source is the Changelog. So in addition to documentation team that have been suggested, I think that it's important to have someone that has the time to read Changelog and this mailing list in search of the right answer or the proper implementation of a problem. Hi all,
is in Harbour docs an ordered list of Harbour extensions/substitute Clipper
functions ?
I searched among the various document but I haven't found anything. Maybe I
haven't searched deeply...
Furthermore, in the doc files the documentation of each function is not
described in depth: many times it's not enough to learn its use and also some
code snippet is missing. To find informations in changelog can be a solution
but, like in these days, functions and functionality change very quickly and
it's hard to find useful informations this way. I know that it's not easy to
write a proper documentation and it's precious time that a developer can't
spend, but who can document the use of a function/class/project, if not the
developer itself?
Sometimes in the past I used C# (for very very very little time) and by using a
triple slash /// I could document each code that I was writing. The C# IDE
parsed each file in search of those tags and when we needed help over a
particular function, It showed us the informations that we put after those
tags.
Perhaps, we could use the same construct to help us to make a better
auto-documentation. It may be used in any part of Harobur code, .c, .prg and
other files (not only in the header) and it's not so far the // that a Clipper
programmer is used to use in its code.

Hi Massimo, all, snip with most contrib project you must remember that if you made your sample out of native directory you must copy hbmk.hbm and revise or integrate in your project file hbp I'm new in hbmk2 use and I don't understand its use deeply. Can you be more clear about .hbm .hbc files and their use (a little example could help)? Regarding hybrid mode I have to learn how to use Hb in standarb way first, simply porting an entire app to it, and add step by step new features (mouse, graphic, printer managing for example). I'm sure that I will post many other questions in the future... Hi, thank you for your exaustive answer. No, it's not a must at all. I was trying to convert a sample application with Harbour. I choosed an application among the others without a fixed scope (that was the first that came in my mind...). These ct functions worked well in that application but it's easy to disable them: it's only cosmetic. Your answer opens a wide range of other questions (at least for me), but I think not to bore all of you in long a waste-time threads, as I see you are full time engaged in coding and replying (very little time for family I suppose...). Hi, I supposed I was being a little confusing. I apologize. I missed a step: in the get field you need to press F2 Key In Clipper the result is tasti():lastkey()-> 13 tasti():xkey-> -1 -- main():lastkey()->13 main():nkey-> -1 as expected. While in Hb tasti():lastkey()-> 13 tasti():xkey-> -1;< ; but it's not relevant now -- main():lastkey()->13 main():nkey-> -1 nb: tasti() has to be read like processkey() function (tasti() is the original fuction) The more significant difference is that after the F2 keypress, in HB I need to press ENTER to go on (is the ACCEPT command that needs that), while Clipper doesn't need it. Hi all, some ct fuctions aren't recognized by Harbour. These are FontReset( ) FontLoad( ) FontSelect( ) I added in .hbp file the -lhbct option, but without success. Are they not yet implemented or there are new/other functions to use instead of ?
