RE: [hlds] VAC Update?
Now I have an interesting situation. One of My most trusted and oldest Admins is being accused of hacking. I spec'd him and made a demo plus I have my trusty HLTV demo recording as always. But the truth is I still don't know if he was hacking or not. He denies it of course. Part of what I thought was a speed hack turned out to be an Exploit of the other Admins discovered and didn't tell anyone about. It is an exploit with a plugin called Force Mod. As in Starwars Force. This guy is very good, always has been. One of the few players that can give me a hard time on my server. He basically owns the # 1 slot in all our stats. The map is Starwars2. This server has been one the few dedicated Starwars2 servers for about 2 years. He is one of the original players and knows the map better than most. He claims he just shoots at certain spots on the walls in the hopes of hitting someone. My son does the same thing and I know for a fact my son Does NOT hack. This Admin of mine caught my attention because he was using the clan tag [myG0t]. He says he was trying to get Hackers to admit they were hacking, which he did and promptly banned them for it! Lol Isn't that entrapment? Now if VAC was up to date this might not have ever been a issue. I will gladly provide the link to DL these demos if anyone is interested in putting their 2 cents in. Please keep in mind that this is a Fun server though usually run pretty strictly. Low Gravity is the Norm there (it is a space map!) I already have verified that he is Not using a speed hack as I first assumed. I am going to see if there is an update for that plugin or fix it myself. Meanwhile he is suspended from admin privileges until I review more demos of him playing. Sorry for the long drawn out post But I am actually getting a bit stressed from this! I play only on a few servers, all West Coast. We definately have been visited time to time by super-good players, and very infrequently by someone with very questionable skills. Most of the servers are regulars so we know everyone who plays there and the regs usually pressure the hacks away pretty quickly. Last night I jump on for a few rounds before bed. Headshot, headshot, headshot, headshot - my whole freakin team dead, and all this within about 2 seconds of round start. A player named knife was using every hack imaginable: speed, aimbot, wall, everything! Typically when someone is this blatant, everyone will vote him off fairly quickly. Last night the regs were the minority and no one on the other team would vote against this guy. This totally pissed me off. I was cussing everyone out, and eventually started taunting the other players because they wouldn't vote against him. I really didn't get it. This guy would kill everyone on my team within 1-2 seconds and no one on his team would kill anyone. They wouldn't even get a shot off - how the heck can that be fun for anyone? But they wouldn't vote him off! One of my favorite servers ruined by a freak hack and loser opponents who obviously liked standing around doing nothing. wow. So there's my vent / rant / etc. Hopefully, VAC will continue to improve and somehow, somewhere, servers will become a better place to play. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Timothy Lynn Sent: Tuesday, August 17, 2004 9:06 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [hlds] VAC Update? [hlds] Kick and Ban on Source
For the life of me I cannot seem to kick or ban anyone unless I go through the process of typing out there name. Since steam ids are not showing up through status and kicking by userid doesnt seem to work, it is the only solution. Also, when attempting to name kick using rcon, if the individual uses the ` in their name you cannot do it since it will close the console. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds
[hlds] minor issues
First off, John, thanks for your help last night. Three minor issues. My source server runs on the same IP as my hlds; only on port 27035. On the client side, the 1.6 server shows up in Favorites, while if i manually add the source server, it does not stick in Favorites (i.e., exit, relaunch, gone). Not sure if Favorites has issues in general or if it's because they're on the same ip. In-game, if I try to rcon, it keeps trying to default to the 27015 port, and keeps giving a connection failed (of course). I tried forcing it with rcon_address but that didnt work either. Also, not sure if it's my ignorance, but I can't seem to buy weapons using the alias like in 1.6, ie., bind f1 mp5; primammo. Just some FYIs. [hlds] New CSS Beta Server Patch = Mad Lag !!
I just updated my CSS Dedicated Server, and while it no longer crashes when full, now for some unknown reason all the pings go haywire up and down like a yo-yo. I mean like 4-5X normal pings. My Server never used above 20% CPU, but it acted like it was at 100% CPU and starving for more power. Weird, the previous version did not do this with the same player load. -- Cain Windows 2003 Server Dual Xeon 3.06 __ Do you Yahoo!? New and Improved Yahoo! This is happening for us as well. The server might be using 2% of the CPU but everyone's ping is about 4 times what they'd get in a 1.6 server. Last time my friend was falsely banned he contacted valve through the steam website and they determined that he was indeed falsely banned, and removed it. And as far as I can remember, any mass false-banning that happened was always reversed, without any work of the clients being done. In all fairness to Valve, you don't hear as much about false bans these days. I attribute this to the maturity of VAC - IOW, they are getting their act together. I'm not saying that VAC is great or even good - just that it seems to be working better then it used to. ___ You have got to be seriously kidding me?!?!?!?!?!?! -- In the market for a car?
