[hlds] Auto-update not working for CS: S servers?

2004-08-19 Thread [AIX]Hood
So does the -autoupdate flag not work with CS:S dedicated servers? When I
add this flag, it keeps mentioning that I've mixed hl1 and cs: source,
which I haven't. Seeing as there's probably going to be a lot of updates,
not having this available is going to keep knocking servers off the net
since they're out of date (until the admin realizes it). Thanks.

I have thus far refused to participate in the
 everyone hacks thread, but
last nights CS experience has left me so freakin mad
 that I need to vent
 somewhere!
I play only on a few servers, all West Coast. We
 definately have been
visited time to time by super-good players, and
 very infrequently by
someone with very questionable skills. Most of the
 servers are regulars so
we know everyone who plays there and the regs
 usually pressure the hacks
 away pretty quickly.
Last night I jump on for a few rounds before bed.
 Headshot, headshot,
headshot, headshot - my whole freakin team dead, and
 all this within about 2
seconds of round start. A player named knife was
 using every hack
 imaginable: speed, aimbot, wall, everything!
 Typically when someone is this
blatant, everyone will vote him off fairly quickly.
 Last night the regs were
the minority and no one on the other team would vote
 against this guy. This
totally pissed me off. I was cussing everyone out,
 and eventually started
taunting the other players because they wouldn't
 vote against him. I really
didn't get it. This guy would kill everyone on my
 team within 1-2 seconds
and no one on his team would kill anyone. They
 wouldn't even get a shot
off - how the heck can that be fun for anyone? But
 they wouldn't vote him
off! One of my favorite servers ruined by a freak
 hack and loser opponents
who obviously liked standing around doing nothing.
 wow.
So there's my vent / rant / etc.
Hopefully, VAC will continue to improve and somehow,
 somewhere, servers will
become a better place to play.

Hey Mike, you want to start, I don't know, bringing

 will you be quiet

And while you're at it... You may or may not have
 noticed this, but this
 isn't a forum, it's a listsrv, and adding a one line
 response on top of
about 22K of misquoted and mangled crap is about the
 most useless thing
a learned admin could do. There are people who get
 the digest of the
list and when you make posts like you did it
 completely destroys any
sense of continuity and needlessly bloats the
 digests. Not to mention
there are people on the list who have metered usage,
 so downloading all
these over-quoted responses does them no favors
 either.
You're using Outlook, so take a look at the great
 program Outlook
 Quotefix at

http://home.in.tum.de/~jain/software/outlook-quotefix/.
It'll automatically do things like strip out
 signatures and listsrv
footers (assuming they're properly delineated by
 --), put a sensible
quote header in, word wrap stuff, and move your
 cursor beneath quoted
material automatically. All you need to do is pick
 out the stuff you
don't want quoted and delete it, a task that takes
 about 5 seconds.

Actually false bans aren't really a problem in my opinion. Last time
my friend was falsely banned he contacted valve through the steam
website and they determined that he was indeed falsely banned, and removed
it.

And as far as I can remember, any mass false-banning that happened was
always reversed, without any work of the clients being done.

In all fairness to Valve, you don't hear as much about false bans these
days. I attribute this to the maturity of VAC - IOW, they are getting their
act together. I'm not saying that VAC is great or even good - just that it
seems to be working better then it used to.

It's people like yourself taking it to the extreme.

Since there's no admin there, what do you do? Leave. Blatant hackers aren't
there to be better than anyone else. They're there to annoy and destroy any
pub game that's happening. You actually staying in the server and displaying
your hate fuels this person to continue cheating on the server.

There's more than one server out there. I understand it's a place you enjoy
playing at, but you have to use common sense and just find a different place
to play for the time being.

---

On to the other point someone made. VAC isn't the end-all tool. You actually
have to take matters into your own hands, instead of being lazy and rely on
something to do every single thing for you. If you can't handle dealing with
cheaters, don't admin a server.

A lot of people fail to realize just how lucky we are to have a tool like
VAC. Even though it's not updated as much as some of us may have wished (at
least currently, I think some major changes will be made once Valve finishes
its current projects), be happy to have this instead of nothing at all (or
horrible, half-assed third party tools)

RE: [hlds] VAC Update?

2004-08-19 Thread Mike Munoz
Now I have an interesting situation. One of My most trusted and oldest
Admins is being accused of hacking. I spec'd him and made a demo plus I have
my trusty HLTV demo recording as always. But the truth is I still don't
know if he was hacking or not. He denies it of course. Part of what I
thought was a speed hack turned out to be an Exploit of the other Admins
discovered and didn't tell anyone about. It is an exploit with a plugin
called Force Mod. As in Starwars Force. This guy is very good, always has
been. One of the few players that can give me a hard time on my server. He
basically owns the # 1 slot in all our stats. The map is Starwars2. This
server has been one the few dedicated Starwars2 servers for about 2 years.
He is one of the original players and knows the map better than most. He
claims he just shoots at certain spots on the walls in the hopes of hitting
someone. My son does the same thing and I know for a fact my son Does NOT
hack. This Admin of mine caught my attention because he was using the clan
tag [myG0t]. He says he was trying to get Hackers to admit they were
hacking, which he did and promptly banned them for it! Lol Isn't that
entrapment?

Now if VAC was up to date this might not have ever been a issue.

I will gladly provide the link to DL these demos if anyone is interested in
putting their 2 cents in. Please keep in mind that this is a Fun server
though usually run pretty strictly. Low Gravity is the Norm there (it is a
space map!) I already have verified that he is Not using a speed hack as I
first assumed. I am going to see if there is an update for that plugin or
fix it myself.

Meanwhile he is suspended from admin privileges until I review more demos of
him playing.

Sorry for the long drawn out post But I am actually getting a bit
stressed from this!

RE: [hlds] 2 off the topic questions (apologies)

2004-08-19 Thread K. Mike Bradley
Let me clarify
When I said VAC is not working at all, I meant that it is doing nothing to
stop hackers and cheaters because they all use the latest hacks including
MyGOT.

VAC will of course detect outdated cheats which no one is using anymore.

[hlds] Kick and Ban on Source

2004-08-19 Thread John
For the life of me I cannot seem to kick or ban anyone unless I go
through the process of typing out there name. Since steam ids are not
showing up through status and kicking by userid doesnt seem to work, it
is the only solution. Also, when attempting to name kick using rcon, if
the individual uses the ` in their name you cannot do it since it will
close the console.

[hlds] minor issues

2004-08-19 Thread Mike Donahue
First off, John, thanks for your help last night.

Three minor issues. My source server runs on the same IP as my hlds; only on port
27035. On the client side, the 1.6 server shows up in Favorites, while if i manually
add the source server, it does not stick in Favorites (i.e., exit, relaunch, gone).
Not sure if Favorites has issues in general or if it's because they're on the same ip.

In-game, if I try to rcon, it keeps trying to default to the 27015 port, and keeps
giving a connection failed (of course). I tried forcing it with rcon_address but that
didnt work either.

Also, not sure if it's my ignorance, but I can't seem to buy weapons using the alias
like in 1.6, ie., bind f1 mp5; primammo.

Just some FYIs.

Thanks,

Mike

[hlds] New CSS Beta Server Patch = Mad Lag !!

I just updated my CSS Dedicated Server, and while it no longer crashes when

Weird, the previous version did not do this with the same player load.

Almost identical to cs1.6 current buying aliases. For example here is my
cs:source buy script (in my userconfig.cfg)

 // Buy Script

bind F1 buy mp5; buy primammo
bind F2 buy ak47; buy m4a1; buy primammo
bind F3 buy vesthelm; buy vest
bind F4 buy deagle; buy secammo
bind F5 buy usp; buy secammo
 bind F6 buy primammo
 bind F7 buy secammo
bind F8 buy awp; buy primammo
 bind F9 buy hegrenade
 bind F10 buy flashbang
 bind F11 buy smokegrenade
 bind F12 buy defuser

 bind INS jpeg

 // Done

 echo Config Loaded Successfully

I hope you have fun making your own :D

Subject: [hlds] minor issues

First off, John, thanks for your help last night.

Three minor issues. My source server runs on the same IP as my hlds; only
on port 27035. On the client side, the 1.6 server shows up in Favorites,
while if i manually add the source server, it does not stick in Favorites
(i.e., exit, relaunch, gone). Not sure if Favorites has issues in general
or if it's because they're on the same ip.

In-game, if I try to rcon, it keeps trying to default to the 27015 port, and
keeps giving a connection failed (of course). I tried forcing it with
rcon_address but that didnt work either.

Also, not sure if it's my ignorance, but I can't seem to buy weapons using
the alias like in 1.6, ie., bind f1 mp5; primammo.

Just some FYIs.

Thanks,

Mike

Re: [hlds] CS1.6 Map into Condition-Zero

2004-08-19 Thread hlds_linux
steam -command update -game Counter-Strike Source -dir hlds_l

That is from *nix, but its pretty much the same thing. You have to use
hldsupdatetool instead of steam though.

If you need help, just type hldsupdatetool. You will get a list of
everything that you need.

Actually false bans aren't really a problem in my opinion. Last time my
friend was falsely banned he contacted valve through the steam website
and they determined that he was indeed falsely banned, and removed it.
