For the sake of other people's inboxes I'll say this once and never again: Please stop sending these random messages to the hlds list. You previously submitted multiple emails where you talked about consent(???), your post being "censored", mentioning "sloppy & amateur development", and saying "They stole Steam from me". Nobody on this list wants to read your ramblings; they are here for hlds updates, not what you have to say about Counter-Strike 2. Plenty of other places to go if you have a vendetta against Valve. Thanks. -Eric -Original Message- From: hlds@list.valvesoftware.com On Behalf Of Solokiller Sent: Friday, May 5, 2023 5:19 AM To: Half-Life dedicated Win32 server mailing list Subject: [External Mail] [hlds] Valve Developer Community locked pages are being edited This message is addressed to any Valve employees that are monitoring this mailing list. The Valve Developer Community wiki's main page is being edited by using WikiMedia's localization feature to change the default English translation: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Main_Page This has been a topic of discussion several times now here: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Talk:Main_Page/en It seems that all locked pages can be edited this way, including pages like Terms Of Use. This opens up the possibility of these pages being modified to include links to spam or malicious sites, like sites that are visually similar and ask users to log in again in order to steal login info. It is not clear whether these pages are supposed to be editable by regular users or not, but in any case they are being used to inject additional links on the Main Page. The page is currently being edited back and forth to add and remove the added links. Prior to this a direct request to Valve to assist with some changes was also present. It seems that the users responsible are under the impression that the wiki has been abandoned since the MediaWiki software used is outdated (version 1.31, went out of support 2 years ago, latest release is 1.39) and due to a lack of activity from Valve employees. Valve has always been relatively hands-off when it comes to the wiki but this is evidently not clear to newer users. I would recommend clarifying a few things about wiki editing: * Limitations of translating official pages (direct translations only, prevent insertion of additional content, especially links) * Clarify whether the Main Page should be editable in any manner (subpages for that page should be locked if not) * Clarify whether links to unofficial wikis are permitted (currently present in several official pages) I'd also recommend updating WikiMedia if possible and necessary and checking links to other Valve websites that may be out of date: * "SDK Help Forums" in the sidebar points to the old Steampowered forums and now redirects to the main Steam Community * Terms Of Use points to an old steampowered.com help article which redirects correctly, but may one day stop doing so Updating the VDCBot to scan for these links and auto-detect broken links and redirects may help here. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: https://list.valvesoftware.com/ ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: https://list.valvesoftware.com/

RE: [External Mail] Re: [hlds] Mandatory Team Fortress 2 update released
The game treats bots like it would normal players and kicks them for being idle. If you’re running this on your own server, does setting “mp_idledealmethod 0” fix the problem you’re having? The ConVar mp_idlemaxtime sets how long players are allowed to be idle. The default is 3 minutes. -Eric From: hlds@list.valvesoftware.com On Behalf Of Naleksuh Sent: Friday, October 22, 2021 4:52 PM To: hlds Subject: RE: [External Mail] Re: [hlds] Mandatory Team Fortress 2 update released 1) Have 1 or more bots on the server 2) Have them not move for 3 minutes (or whatever mp_idlemaxtime is set to) 3) They will be kicked (as long as idle kicking is enabled) Video version available at : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDDc2WSDoYM This seems to only happen with bots created directly in the engine and not through end user commands. This specific case is niche but seems to be part of a wider problem of not recognizing bots. Started with the Sep 16 patch, the same one that caused bots to show avatars before being special cased there with just the avatars. I would appreciate a fix for this issue whether bots being treated as humans in general or a specific exemption for bots being kicked. Unfortunately, this "fix" didn't. There is another instance of the same bug which wasn't detected in testing. We'll have another update on Monday. In the meantime, if the "-ip" command line argument is randomly not working, adding "-websocket" to the command line will probably work around the bug. -Original Message- From: hlds@list.valvesoftware.com Sent: Friday, September 24, 2021 5:41 PM To: Half-Life dedicated Win32 server mailing list ; 'hlds_annou...@list.valvesoftware.com' ; 'hlds_li...@list.valvesoftware.com' Subject: [hlds] Mandatory Team Fortress 2 update released We've released a mandatory update for TF2. RE: [hlds] Hlds_proc Beta 2
Rob, You, sir, are now officially 'da man!' I haven't tried the Steam updater, but the Web Interface is great! Now for what's sure to add to your long to-do list: How about some functionality that allows certain users to start/stop servers without giving them access to the configs? This could be a per-user/server kind of deal or an all-user/all-server setup. I trust my top admins to start and stop servers, but I don't want to give them the opportunity to muck around in the configs. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds
