We have another update, changes are:
- fixed hltv demos being corrupted
- fixed downloading of custom sprays from users
- increased max rate to 100k (sv_min/maxrate still apply and defaults for them
are unchanged)
- changed timing function to call clock_gettime(), this should cause more
stable frame rates

As a reminder the plan is to make this the public release later this week, and
that update will be required.

Yes, there is same exploit, which can upload some files to your servers.
We got some attacks to the counter-strike servers in the russia. Attacker
use this exploit for upload his exec.cfg which contain rcon_password
command into addons/metamod/ folder or intor
addons/amxmodx/configs/maps/*.cfg folder. On changelevel metamod or
amxmodx execute those files and attacker can change your rcon password by
this way. Also there is fix made by Crock an dproto developer.

Dont forget make backup before installing this files.

Rename swds_p2.dll to swds.dll and replace this with your if you running

Rename engine_i686_p2.so to engine_i686.so and replace this with your if

Subject: [hlds_linux] Counter-Strike 1.6 beta server

We have begun testing of Half-Life and Counter-Strike 1.6 on OSX and Linux. In
support of this we have updated the dedicated server and converted it to using
the new Steampipe system. You can access the new version via Steampipe right
now, it remains network compatible with older clients.

To access the beta please follow the steamcmd instructions on our developer
wiki, https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamCMD, Counter-Strike 1.6
dedicated server is currently available as appid 90 (and will continue to use
this appid after full release).

The changes in this version are numerous (and some fixes are still in progress,
I am looking at you redirect servers). Under Linux we have moved forward to
GCC 4.6 (from 2.95, heh) and are using a newer OS toolchain, so please do test
these binaries on your machine.

Re: [hlds] Counter-Strike 1.6 beta server update

2013-01-31 Thread Alfred Reynolds
We have released an update to this beta. This update includes some good CS 1.6
server changes so you should update.

Fixes include:
- Fixed rotating objects stopping after some period in a map
- Fixed potential upload exploit that let a client put a new file on your
server (they could not touch/replace existing files)
- Fixed respawn bug in CS 1.6 if you died from drowning

I've got more CS 1.6 fixes planned, we are keeping track of the bugs over at
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues so report things you
want fixed (and features within reason).

If this happens like in css, the automatic method will be removed and user has
to first connect to a server where the server will ask if redirecting to
another server is ok and then user has to press a key to accept it.

2013-01-28 Thread jainil shah
I do have a quick question about this. First off all, I am very happy that
redirection servers are finally getting taken care off. This also concerns
me because in past, i have used few plugins that redirect to my new ip for
sometime (till it got popular again) when I had switched hosts/locations.
plugin is xredirectx.amxx, and I am sure alot of servers use it to redirect
people to rest of their servers when either they are full, or locked.

Why are you talking about 66/100 tic? It's HL1 Engine. Putting it on 66 or
100 should give 64 FPS or around, so it's the same thing. You have to put it
on 200-300 to have enough FPS for your clients to receive 100/s.

Re: [hlds] Counter-Strike 1.6 Beta

2009-06-18 Thread AnAkIn .
Why are you talking about 66/100 tic? It's HL1 Engine. Putting it on 66 or
100 should give 64 FPS or around, so it's the same thing. You have to put it
on 200-300 to have enough FPS for your clients to receive 100/s.

Re: [hlds] Counter-Strike 1.6 Beta

2009-06-18 Thread Robert Whelan
Cool, Thx... updating now...

I've been using -sys_ticrate in the commandline for quiet some time now. 66 tic
on a 32 slot tfc frag server and 100 tic on a tfc conc server... anyways...
still works.

The main thing I was going to ask seems to have fixed itself in this beta. In
the hlds0319 beta update things were ok till it was released then my servers
started creating minidumps on the initial start of the server. They didn't
crash... just created a dump.

Anyways, after running cs0616 the dumps stoppped.

Yay... thx

Re: [hlds] Counter-Strike 1.6 Beta

2009-06-17 Thread Robert Whelan
Hey Alfred,

Is this like the Half-Life 1 Engine beta hlds0319 update? Meaning, it was a
published as a beta Half-Life 1 Engine update though released as a CS 1.6
update after several weeks? The reason I ask is we run a few TFC servers still
and the hlds0319 tested fine for us though we missed out on the release because
it was title a CS 1.6 release, lol.

Anyways... figured I'd ask. Should we run the update cs0616 being it would more
then likely impact the Win32 Server Engine again?

Thx

Ferenc,

Are you sure you're using the Counter-Strike Steamworks Beta to connect to
your Beta server? I got error messages like that when I tried to connect to
a Beta server using the regular Counter-Strike 1.6 client.

I'm trying to set up a cstrike_beta server, but after starting the server, I
couldn't connect to it.
This is what the clients gets before the disconnect:

Connecting to 88.151.101.68:27020 ...
STEAM userid keysize is bogus (-536122360/1024

This is how I start the server:

#!/bin/sh
LD_PRELOAD=./booster.so
cd /home/hlds/steam/games/cstrike_beta
sudo -u hlds /home/hlds/steam/games/cstrike_beta/hlds_run -game cstrike +ip
`resolveip -s 'sanctuary.tyrael.hu'` -port 27020 +servercfgfile
public_server.cfg +maxplayers 24 +map de_dust2 -noipx -heapsize 51 -zone
1024 -pingboost 1 +sys_ticrate 1 +sv_maxupdaterate 200 -autoupdate

And the server starts like this:

Auto detecting CPU
Using Pentium II Optimised binary.
Auto-restarting the server on crash
Could not locate steam binary:./steam, ignoring.

Console initialized.
scandir failed:/home/hlds/steam/games/cstrike_beta/./valve/SAVE
scandir failed:/home/hlds/steam/games/cstrike_beta/./platform/SAVE

Continuing with current version anyway.

Adding master server 69.28.151.162:27010
registry.cpp (216) : Assertion Failed: !"Implement me"
Connection to Steam servers successful.
   VAC secure mode is activated.

I know that the "[S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; unable to update local
steamclient. Continuing with current version anyway." error message is
normal, but the
registry.cpp (216) : Assertion Failed: !"Implement me"
shouldn't be there, I tried to google it, but the only match is a russian
site, and there wasn't any solution.
I'm trying to run this server on a HP Proliant ML110 G4 with debian etch,
and I can successfully start with the same command, if I use the cstrike
instead of the new beta.
The installations always up-to-date.
If somebody solved this problem, please help me.

There is also a bug that has been here for years, when you ALT+TAB, the
weapon's hand get switched, so each time you come back from an ALT+TAB, if
you have the right handed models (cl_righthand 1), you have to type again in
console cl_righthand 1 (it's still on 1 after an ALT+TAB, but it just
doesn't show on the right side on screen) to fix it.

I kept changing my name, but the scoreboard wouldn't update, it still shows
my steam's community name?
My name really changed, if I was trying to view my game infos, I could see
my new name, but in scoreboard, still the steam community one. Even
reconnecting didn't change anything.

Also, it stills shows a special character in my name (which is in my steam
community name), and I can't see it in options/console. Could you enable the
show of special characters in console and in options menu? You can
copy/paste them, they are here, but invisible.

The fix for this just went live so make sure you update your servers. We
have much better error reporting in this beta build so it would really
help if we could get more people up and running on servers, I have
already fixed a few long standing crashes with your help :)

When you join any server, you are disconnected immediately with the message:

"STEAM validation rejected"

And it seems to be for everybody. Why didn't anyone report this yet? :o

Re: [hlds] Counter-Strike 1.6 Beta updated

2008-09-23 Thread Jonah Hirsch
I know about setinfo, but I'm assuming the change in the 1.6 beta works
like this:
Steam Community name: NAMEONE
In game name: NAMETWO

In the OB it works like this:
Steam Community name: NAMEONE
"setinfo" name: NAMETWO

And the "setinfo" name changes back to the SC name after the
mapchange...I was talking about putting the system that's now in the 1.6
beta in the OB engine.

Not really, if you set 800x600 at your desktop and 1680x1050 in game,
you get 1680x1050, but if you set 16bit in win and 32bit in game, you
get 16bit (you can see throught smokes), try it. I don't know why, but I
know that it is (same with -16bpp).

If it's not locked for CS 1.6 now, is there a possibility this could be
removed in the OB engine?

Re: [hlds] Counter-Strike 1.6 Beta updated

2008-09-21 Thread Saint K.
I could be very wrong here, but logical thinking makes me believe that the
game settings are unrelated to the desktop settings. If you put your desktop
at 800x600, and your game at 1650x1050, it surely won't run as 800x600. That
example makes me think the same goes for the bits setting.

what? if you set 16bin in win and 32bit in cs you have 16bit, so this

Jason, all current Goldsource Engine based games do NOT work with DEP (Data

However an older version of this steamworks beta does (didn't test the
current one)
Could you put an eye on DEP at the development? DEP should not lead to any
problems for simple games.

You can set your Friends List status to Offline, and I've been playing TF2
since beta and can't remember ever seeing someone show up as a friend and
them not have been... maybe it's a 1.6 bug?

setinfo name "name". Works like a champ. Only catch is you have to use
it after each mapchange or rejoin, but you can still change your name
in-game.

Re: [hlds] Counter-Strike 1.6 Beta Available

2008-09-02 Thread Maxi Hark
The fact u cant change the ingame nick in tf2 and it uses the friends
nick = fail imo.

what if u play for several clans and dont want to tag up in your friends
list?
what if u want to take a funny nick?

besides that, the friends-tag ingame dont work at all, shows random
players as friends.

and if u change your nick via console, it switches back everytime u
change server / mapchange.

and what if u dont want to use friends at all?

imo the system used in earlier games is way better.

Makes sense to me, IIRC CS:S is being ported to the newer source engine,
so no need to make an incremental update, given it'll have those
features soon enough anyway.

Whereas CS 1.6 isn't gonna be updated massively engine wise, so they
might as well bring a few bits up to date.

[hlds] Counter-Strike 1.6 Beta Available

2008-08-29 Thread Jason Ruymen
There is a Counter-Strike 1.6 Beta available to all existing
Counter-Strike owners. The dedicated server beta is available when you
run hldsupdatetool using "cstrike_beta". The focus of this beta is on
the dedicated server component, in particular the Linux piece. Here are
the specific changes:

Integrated Steam Community features into Counter-Strike
- In-game player name now automatically uses player's Steam Community
name
- Avatars are displayed on the scoreboard)

Other fixes
- Prevented some cvar exploits (thanks to AnAkIn for pointing them out)
