Some of the ones out there are crappy, so I set up a dozen or so myself

I hope sourcemod gets reserved slots soon.

Re: [hlds] Left4Dead Versus Only changes map to non-versus

2009-01-16 Thread Joseph Love
Well, if you don't mind starting the lobby every time you want to play
(which, if you ask me, is not a big deal), then, yes.

You simply set the sv_search_key on the client server, and start
your public lobby in versus mode each time. Granted, this isn't
necessarily a public server at this point, but just a public lobby you
start every time you want to play versus. It certainly would
guarantee you a spot in a versus game on your server.

Apart from that, no. And I'm glad, because as someone else pointed
out, it's rude to do so with a public server.

 private.

2009-01-15 Thread gameadmin
Advertising a public server that will randomly error on 50% of the users out
there without warning is impolite to say the least. I'd only recommend this
if the server is _not_ publically joinable, but instead is joinable via
steam community or similar, so that your users know what they're getting
themselves into. (I assume it _is_ some kind of restricted-access server or
else it's a bit harsh to let the matchmaking process select 8 people who
want to play together and then kick one of them)

I think you are taking a lot of extra, unnecessary steps.

Do you want a private server, that plays Versus only maps? You can do
this by disabling Lobby connect, and having the map startup with a
Versus map.

As for being able to join your own server, tough luck there. Keep
kicking people because we don't have Reserved Slots for SourceMod until
the SDK is updated. If you don't want Lobby players on your server, like

Re: [hlds] Left4Dead Versus Only changes map to non-versus

2009-01-15 Thread Chad Austin
I just want a lag free public versus server that I can play on
Some of the ones out there are crappy, so I set up a dozen or so myself
to increase the chances that one has an empty slot.
I hope sourcemod gets reserved slots soon.

msleeper wrote:
I think you are taking a lot of extra, unnecessary steps.

Do you want a private server, that plays Versus only maps? You can do
this by disabling Lobby connect, and having the map startup with a
 Versus map.

Do you want a public server, but it only plays Versus maps? Too bad, the
best you are going to get is dumping people. My question was - why? What
is the point of having a public, Versus 'only' server?

As for being able to join your own server, tough luck there. Keep
kicking people because we don't have Reserved Slots for SourceMod until
the SDK is updated. If you don't want Lobby players on your server, like
I've already said, just disable Lobby connects.

since no communities are using my servers now, so it doesn't really
matter if people get dropped. Also, does anyone know of a way to
autokick someone from one of my servers so I can join, I usually have to
kick 2 or 3 players before I can get a free spot.

If you don't want lobby players on your server, there are much better

You aren't making your server Versus only, you are hyst making it

There is no way to make it Versus only.
