I wonder where would be Valve now, if the counter-strike addon wouldnt
be here. :)

- Added missing snowpuff particles for DX8 players (honest)

Might want to recheck the thing once more, because players reported that they
see smoke and fire as squares in-game after we played koth_viaduct and moved to
another map after that. Rebooting the game fixed the issue, mapchange had no
effect.

Re: [hlds_linux] TF2/L4D Updates Available

2009-08-22 Thread AnAkIn .
Non VALVe games/mods using the Orange Box engine are running on an older
version of it (on protocol 14), and TF2/DoD S are running on protocol 15.
So, they would need to fix the older OB engine too, or make those mods able
to update to the last version (last time they did that, it broke the mods,
that's why they are on a separate version now).

Any way to patch the -game orangebox? As I understand, this is the same
orangeBox, only specified for custom mods. I have Stargate TLS server and.
felling unprotected :) Or maybe I can use the updated materialsystem_i486.so

Re: [hlds_linux] TF2/L4D Updates Available

2009-08-22 Thread ics

The rumours are true but i suspect that they do not dare to touch CS
Source untill it's playerbase starts fading a bit. It's still one of the
top sellers every week in Steam. I'd say that they are afraid that they
might do something that stops people buying it or drive away the current
playerbase. From the past updates, we who have been playing and been
around the game for a long time, propably dynamic pricing was the
biggest failure there ever were. It since quietly have been scrapped.

However, even if they do not plan to update the game, exploits like the
one that was fixed on TF2/L4D _should_ be fixed also in older engine.

Re: [hlds_linux] TF2/L4D Updates Available

2009-08-22 Thread [Don] - Luigi
I am also waiting for a port of CSS to the OB engine. Can't wait to have
achievements like TF2.
I wonder why they did not port a game like CSS which has many many
players out there.

Years back it was sort of announced (rumored?) that they'd port CSS to
the
OB engine. There hasn't been even a whisper on that front. So, unless
they
come out and tell us, I'm considering that project scrapped.

Re: [hlds_linux] TF2/L4D Updates Available

2009-08-21 Thread Shawn Zipay

OB engine. There hasn't been even a whisper on that front. So, unless they
come out and tell us, I'm considering that project scrapped.

And I was wrong about the optional part for Team Fortress 2. The TF 2 update
is required.

Subject: [hlds_linux] TF2/L4D Updates Available

Optional updates for Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead and their engine binaries are
now available. Please run hldsupdatetool to receive the update. The specific
changes include:

Left 4 Dead Engine:
- Fixed an exploit that allowed files to be uploaded to the server at arbitrary
locations in the file system
- Fixed a server crash caused by a client packet claiming to be an HLTV client
when HLTV is disabled on the server
- Fixed a server crash caused by spoofing a client disconnect message
- Fixed a server crash caused by sending malformed reliable subchannel data

Left 4 Dead:
- Novint Falcon support is now enabled by default

Orange Box Engine:
- Fixed an exploit that allowed files to be uploaded to the server at arbitrary
locations in the file system.
- Fixed a server crash caused by a client packet claiming to be an HLTV client
when HLTV is disabled on the server
- Fixed a server crash caused by spoofing a client disconnect message
- Fixed a server crash caused by sending malformed reliable subchannel data
- Fixed a server crash related to unbounded settings on some convars

Team Fortress 2:
- Bullet spread algorithm changed to fire a bullet right down the crosshair
under these circumstances:
 - The first bullet of a spread weapon (except for rapid fire spread weapons
like the minigun)
 - The first bullet of a non-spread weapon if it's been >1.25 seconds since
firing
- Added a "Disable HTML MOTDs" option to the multiplayer->advanced dialog
 - Added "motdfile_text" convar to servers, which allows them to specify a text
file that's shown instead of the HTML MOTD to clients who've turned on this
option
- Fixed radius damage not tracing out of enemies when the explosion occurs
within them
 - Fixes rockets & grenades doing no splash damage when fired point blank into
enemies
- Added missing snowpuff particles for DX8 players (honest)
- Restored LOD for the Demoman player model
- Fixed being able to alt-fire with the fists while stunned as a Heavy
- Fixed CTF_Sawmill not ending the map when mp_timelimit hits during the middle
of a round
- Fixed the "The Big Hurt" achievement not being awarded for players who
already have the required count
- Fixed sv_pure not reloading the map's custom particle file
 - Custom particle effects contained within maps must now be placed in the
\particles directory
- Fixed another case where items weren't being validated properly in class
loadout slots

Community requests:
- Removed centerprint texts for TF_FLAGTYPE_INVADE CTF game mode
- Changed TF_FLAGTYPE_INVADE CTF game mode capture reward from 10 kills to 1
capture
- Added OnCapTeam1 and OnCapTeam2 outputs to the item_teamflag and
func_capturezone entities
- Fixed HUD "carried" image for the TF_FLAGTYPE_ATTACK_DEFEND and
TF_FLAGTYPE_INVADE CTF game modes using the wrong team color
- Fixed dropped flag for the TF_FLAGTYPE_INVADE CTF game mode using the wrong
skin

 - The first bullet of a non-spread weapon if it's been >1.25 seconds since

2009-02-13 Thread 1nsane
Ahahhahaha, check out Sourcemod. It has a country filter plugin

Nevertheless, this will break the lobby for some Russian players as they get
funneled into your server which kicks them. Although the same thing happens
with servers that have reserved slots. So no need to worry about it. Valve
will figure something out if it ever becomes a big enough problem.

Another few things i notice, and i dont know whether its supposed to be like
this, but, if i puke on a survivor, he/she is covered in my puke for x
amount of time.

But, if a hunter pounces on them whilst covered in my puke, i lose my
assists even though other common infected are still laying the boot in! I
dont think thats fair!

Then i noticed that i smoked a survivor ending up in him being incapacitated
and i lose my tongue grasp of him when he went down, only to have a boomer
puke on him and I got all the assists !!! Which was ok by me but the boomer
didnt like it too much !

Is it supposed to be like that?

While were on the subject for updates for tf2 and l4d - heres a couple from
me for suggestions for l4d...

Add a 'stamina bar' for meleeing

Prevent hunters being able to pounce on survivors being smoked

Give hunters a 'lock on' like the smokers have

Give tank a 'sprint bar' - maybe only usable once per tank

I'ld like this, then we can also have pro-tagged servers that maybe require
a advanced setting to be turned on or something. This way random newbies
wouldn't join in on your game to ruin everything.

It would have been nice to hear from Valve if they think of some kind of
competitive/clan support in the near feature. And some better features that
would make it more benefitial to own / host your own server.

Btw, can someone recommend a serverplugin that blocks all russian players of
my servers? I'm hosting 30 L4D servers for the Norwegian public, but
russians fills them up 24/7. I have no interests in supporting russian
gaming :P

Why not transfer the issue (problem) to the players to solve. If they
hate modded servers, why not then add an option to add good servers (or
some good ones that they already know of) to favorites list and then
perform lobby search from those servers instead of all available by
random? Would solve a lot of issues at the same time. No modded servers,
no high ping crap, no lagging ones either. This way those who like
modded ones can play on them and those who dont like them, dont need to
watch for them.

Personally 8-9/10 modded ones ive played with, have crashed during
single campaign. Most common reasons are "extra gore/blood" mod and
Beetlesmod that are caused the crashes for sure.

I think it is impossible for the masterlist to check all the serverrules, so
one have to assume that something is changed the instance someone installs
anything in the addons directory.

I think it be better to block servers who are public and have altered the
gamerules. Our L4D servers all run sourcemod for administration reasons,
there are no plugins causing the gameplay to change, or silly 'ready'
systems on it. It would be like playing on any other normal server.

My main concern with Left 4 Dead servers is serveroperators who set up
custom plugins. There should be a tag on all servers with plugins, so you
don't end up playing on one of those.

One night I ended up on playing on one of Multiplay.co.uk servers, which had
a !ready plugin installed. Noone on my team understood that they had to type
!ready to start, and everyone left. (they tried to type 'type !ready' a few
times though, lol).

What I am asking for here, is something familiar to the Team Fortress 2
custom server flag.

Re: [hlds_linux] Tf2/l4d updates?

2009-02-12 Thread Eric Riemers

They should have something like "time before people will join" when i start
a vs game, sometimes i have to wait ages before finally people come. And
when they come they usually (50%) drop off, also mostly because they just
want to play infected and those are allready taken.

Also, dont know if i didn't see it correctly, but what if i wanted to play
a game with a friend of mine. You cant join a server, since the chance is
big somebody else beat your friend to it. But if its later at night, you
have to try it like that otherwise you dont get a game.

And ofcourse, sometimes you join a server which allready has 2 friends on
it and they kick you out because they have more votes against you.

Last but not least, when you finally have a new vs game, if people drop off
there is always some guy that swaps everytime to infected, ruining the game
so after you played 1 level and the other team lost for instance, they all
drop off.

Eric

ow, and if the update comes out for new vs maps, i bet you cant get a new
vs game running on the no mercy for instance because everyone is playing
the new ones..

It works well for random public play, or even playing with friends. But there
is no support for clans / esports / competitions.

They should also create some sort of ranking, so you don’t end up playing
besides newbies all the time (zzZ...)

*Regarding the scout update!

Taken from **http://www.tf2.com/post.php?id=2195** :**

"When's the next update going to be out?"***

   - We've got an update that should be out tomorrow with a bunch of bug &
exploit fixes. Later this week we hope to have another update out that
changes the way we store your unlockable items. You shouldn't notice much
difference, other than if you play on multiple computers we'll now propagate
your item choices. You can think of that update as the one that moves your
inventory into the Steam Cloud. Once that's out of the way, we'll be able to
   ship the Scout pack.

Certainly didn't mean to intend my server is the end all stats for
tf2, I am just echoing the comments I've heard from numerous people I
play with, all of whom really want to see new content for tf2.

All very anxious for new tf and l4d content.
