Re: [ilugd] debian linux cds i am totally confused
The 8 cd's encompass all the packages debian has to offer. In most cases you wont need all that. For a base install all you need is CD1.If you want a GUI install aftre that then you need CD2.The rest can all be done using apt. So my suggestion.download(or burn if u have already downloaded) only CD1 and 2 and then use apt to get to the rest of the stuff u need. My 2 cents. --Rishabh -- Rishabh Manocha http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/rmanocha **Your Quote for the day** `When you say I wrote a program that crashed Windows, people just stare at you blankly and say Hey, I got those with the system, *for free*.' Download managers in Linux (was) Re: [ilugd] only one reason

Arre nahi! I use kget without konqueror(I prefer Firefox). In KDE just execute the command kget. You would see a window opening in which you can paste your URLs and they will be downloaded as you want. The best thing about kget is that if you minimize it, it appears in the system tray. So whenever, you want to download a link, copy the URL into clipboard from Firebird(or any other browser), click the kget icon in the tray, and in the kget window which appears, simply paste the URL! kget uses KDE's session management, and thus if you shutdown/logoff from KDE when kget in running, it is automatically restarted for you when you log back in! So there you are - you have got a download manager always available in the tray! If there are multiple downloads happening, you can double click a download in the Kget window. You will get a separate dialog for that particular download. You can minimize this to have a progress indicator for that download right in the tray itself, just like individual getright download windows. And yes, I frequently download big files ( 100MB) using kget. It supports resuming, scheduling etc. The only thing which it doesnt support is multi-part downloads. - Sandip -- Sandip Bhattacharya sandip (at) puroga.com Puroga Technologies Pvt. Ltd.
