Re: [ilugd] Network programming..

2007-12-30 Thread Sharad Birmiwal
Hi Shamail

It is very much possible to have a direct connection between two
computers over the internet. In fact, the fact that is over the
internet plays little role (unless there are firewalls/IP masquerading
taking place).

Find any tutorial on socket programming (in C/C++/perl/Java) and then
you can make one of the two end-nodes (computers) as the server (the
other node can initiate the connection to the server). What is
required though is that your packets reach the other side, i.e., when
you establish a connection to the other computer, you need to know the
IP address and the in-between network (internet) should allow packets
to reach the other side.

Hope this helps
Sharad Birmiwal

Maybe http://openvpn.net/ ?

With OpenVPN, you can:

* tunnel any IP subnetwork or virtual ethernet adapter over a single UDP or
TCP port,
* configure a scalable, load-balanced VPN server farm using one or more
machines which can handle thousands of dynamic connections from incoming VPN
clients,
* use all of the encryption, authentication, and certification features of
the OpenSSL library to protect your private network traffic as it transits the
internet,
* use any cipher, key size, or HMAC digest (for datagram integrity
checking) supported by the OpenSSL library,
* choose between static-key based conventional encryption or
certificate-based public key encryption,
* use static, pre-shared keys or TLS-based dynamic key exchange,
* use real-time adaptive link compression and traffic-shaping to manage
link bandwidth utilization,
* tunnel networks whose public endpoints are dynamic such as DHCP or
dial-in clients,
* tunnel networks through connection-oriented stateful firewalls without
having to use explicit firewall rules,
* tunnel networks over NAT,
* create secure ethernet bridges using virtual tap devices, and
* control OpenVPN using a GUI on Windows or Mac OS X.

Haven't used it myself. But had references who swear it works well.

 Hi,

A new wiki (created by myself, beware of the bugs) have been installed on
delhi.pm.org , though it is in development and for now can be accessible via
http://delhi.perl.org.in/cgi-bin/wiki.cgi
I would request all the people here to have a look at this wiki and give me
your inputs. As this is an old group trying to renew itself and you guys
here can give some vital inputs.
I will particularly request the creators of ilugd delhi to pl. give me your
feedback.
As the design as of now is particularly bad but i am not a designer myself,
i would ask where i can get a good template .

Moreover if someone wants to be a moderator of the group pl. send me an
email with your details i will be giving you the admin password.

ILUGD people Help !!! I need a web-tetmplate and a logo for the group.
Also i need to know how do you add discussions of the list to appear on the
site. In later course and if the admin of ilugd agrees i can provide a feed
url to be placed somewhere on the ilugd website.

Thanks,

[ilugd] ICICI Netbanking and Firefox 2.0 (or where to get Firefox 1.5)

2007-12-30 Thread Saurabh Nanda
Hi,

Has anyone been able to successfully transact on the ICICI Netbanking
website using Firefox 2.0. By transact I mean able to transfer funds,
etc. Basically anything that requires:

(a) your transaction password to be entered, or
(b) the debit card grid verification to be performed).

My session has consistently been timed out immediately after (a) above.

While Googling around, I came across a forum where someone claimed
that due to a JS error the session times out in Firefox 2.0, but the
site works on Firefox 1.5.

Does anyone know where I can get a Firefox 1.5 package (or tarball)
for Ubuntu Feisty Fawn. I've been trying to search for it, but in
vain.

Help will be appreciated,
Saurabh.

came after grovelling through the Javascript code on the page.

No, I didn't write it down anywhere and I have only the vaguest
recollection of the whole episode. But I do know that the problem was
what it usually is: depending on some ActiveX control and/or some
IE-only JS function. Either that, or some broken code which shouldn't
work at all but does on IE.

Apropos greasemonkey, do you have any active which are interfering with
