I'm also interested, sorry I've not replied earlier :). And I'll try to attend

Use a sane MUA, Gnus[1], Kmail[2] or mutt[3] (which sucks less). Thunderbird

Don't you think in that case, the result will be negative, since mail header in
mail
sent to D != mail sent to C because, both the mails are originating from
different sources.

Above file is okay, but make sure, file is processed by postmap(5).

>

Above file is also fine, and it also need to be processed by postmap(5).

>
>3. /etc/postfix transport
>gmail.com smtp:[smtp.gmail.com]

This is wrong, unless you want to tell postfix that mails to all @gmail.com
users should be sent (not _relayed_ via) to the SMTP server smtp.gmail.com. Use
'relay' transport instead of 'smtp' transport. But even this won't relay mails
via smtp.gmail.com if mail is destined to non @gmail.com address.

Well, above can also be implemented using 'relayhost' variable in main.cf.
And don't use transport_maps, unless, you really need them.

- >8>8
mydestination=$myhostname,localhost.$mydomain,localhost,localhost.localdomain
relayhost=[smtp.gmail.com]
smtp_use_tls=yes
smtp_tls_per_site=hash:/etc/postfix/tls_per_site
smtp_tls_session_cache_database=btree:/var/run/smtp_tls_session_cache
smtp_sasl_tls_security_options=noanonymous
smtp_tls_CAfile=/etc/postfix/cacert.pem
smtp_sasl_auth_enable=yes
smtp_sasl_password_maps=hash:/etc/postfix/sasl/sasl_passwd
relay_domains=
- >8>8

And this configuration is tested on Fedora, Ubuntu, and Gentoo GNU/Linux +
FreeBSD with minor changes related to path names. On Gentoo GNU/Linux and
FreeBSD I've installed from source. cacert.pem is the one which is shipped with
Mozilla Firefox.

I'm also using similar configuration since 1.8 years using Gmail's SMTP as
mail relay for my local Postfix. And instead of using SMTPS port which is
SMTP-over-SSL, I'm using smtp.gmail.com:25, which is a plain-text SMTP.
Ofcourse
my postfix then switches to TLS.

So the issue is Postfix expecting plain-text SMTP.

I've followed Gmail + Postfix + Fetchmail HOWTO[1]. Though my configuration is
somewhat different from what is mentioned in the HOWTO.

What kind of data is it ? If it is some medical data (like patient records,

GNU/Linux, Windows, Mac OSX using Postgres as database server.

Not sure about OpenOffice Base, though.

The assignment of value to the symbol by linker script takes place in symbol
table, which linker refers to while linking. The values in symbol table are
nothing but the address, and size.

Gmail doesn't have concept of folders. So, in inbox you'll only see mails you
received. There is a MUA named sup[1] (based in ncurses) which has this labels

If you want to send the message to the user ABCD running GNOME (or
probably {Xfc,KD}E also), while you also logged in as user ABCD via SSH, then
you
can leverage functionality provided by notification-daemon[1].

1. Figure out DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS variable of ABCD running in GNOME, and
export
   it to your environment.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] export `cat /proc/\`pgrep nautilus\`/environ |tr "\0" "\n"
|fgrep DBUS_SESSION`

2. Now use notify-send tool (from libnotify-tools or libnotify package in your
distro) to
   send a notification.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] notify-send -u critical 'Message' "This system will be
turned-off in 1 minute"

Cross-posting and multi-posting make difference in newsgroup posting. I
don't know how they're relevant in terms of mailing list.

If you post a message to multiple newsgroups, by mentioning multiple newsgroups
separated by commas, in 'Newsgroups' header, this is cross-posting.
There is a 'Followup-To' header, where you specify, on which newsgroup,
you want follow-ups to the posting.

If you post a single message to multiple newsgroups, by creating separate
postings,
this is multi-posting.

In case of cross-posting, only single message is submitted, which will
show up in all posted newsgroups. If you've already read that message in one
newsgroup, it'll be marked as _read_ for you by your NUA (news user agent),
so if you came across that message in other newsgroups also, that message
will already marked as _read_ .

The cross-posting won't have desired effect (similar to newsgroups) in case of
mailing lists, as these mailing lists operate in a different way from
newsgroups. Although the only benefit with cross-posting in terms of mailing
lists is
that you get messages from different lists with same 'Message-ID' header. It
depends
on your MUA to figure out that whether these messages are cross-postings
or not.

It is not similar to Ubuntu or any other GNU/Linux or *BSD distribution,
because these distributions can be bootstrapped to a {z,k,c,ba,}sh shell
with all free software components, whereas OpenSolaris, atm is not in
any position to bootstrap without binary-only drivers, and work is going
on to allow OpenSolaris to bootstrap without involving the use of binary

AFAIK, {z,k,c,ba,}sh doesn't require sound-card, network-card or graphics-card
to start.

libjingle contains GPLv2 licensed files, but it was released under BSD

I'll be glad if you post how to figure out, Firefox's web UI's window

How about using GNOME Epiphany (since both use Gecko :)). Following is a

Epiphany, ImageMagick, sed, awk, xlsclients and perl :) . The script is under

You need a "network installation". Since you're running Ubuntu, you
should check out following URL:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PXEInstallServer

To find anything else, related to Ubuntu, you can type in the keyword
in the search box (at the top-right position) at
https://help.ubuntu.com/ .

To find how to install other distros over network, following Google
"Linux" query might help:

http://www.google.com/linux?q=network+installation

I hope by "ISP is down" you meant gateway is not replying, but interface
is still up, right ? So, if you do ping with '-I ethX', it'll use
IPv4 address assigned to the interface 'ethX' as source address of ICMP
echo packets. So make sure you've a source-based rule already set for 'ethX'
(Hint: ip rule from ). What kind of firewall do you've ? Do you change
firewall rules on fly if ISP goes down, hmm...?

I'm running such configuration since past 8-9 months, with VSNL + Airtel :)

It'll be a thread hijack, but can someone tell me if its okay for VSNL
to let their Internet users, be able to connect their Datacenters on
some RFC 1918 addresses. I mean from the perspective of security. I
think they suck too. I found this last year, and this issue is still
present here.

I've posted the whole episode at

And anyideas, what'll be the logic. I think one needs a connection

How about using a recursive nameserver instead of using forwarder ?
Even if you've to rely on forwarders (probably because of your IP being
blacklisted in RBLs and couple of DNS servers not responding to you),
you can use public DNS servers rather than ISPs DNS servers. e.g. OpenNIC[1],
or OpenDNS[2]. OpenNIC also provides some alternate domains not
available with ICANN :) .

Also you a simple workaround is that you can do this every 20-30s,
"ping -c2 -I ethX [ip-address]" and see if exitcode is not 0, which
implies ethX is not working. Hmm...?

It doesn't screw up DNS, but the multipath route is lost.

Multiple routers

If both your ISP modems are in router mode, you may have issues getting load
balancing to work. This is because both the connections will be using the same
interface (eth0). (Note that I'm using two interfaces, ppp0 and eth0, so I
don't face this problem)
- 8<8<

What issues one will experience, hmm...? I did some similar setup with
eth0 connected to a hub, and both internet connections (PPPoE) terminating to a
hub. And used following command to do setup a default route:

ip r a nexthop via $gateway_1 nexthop via $gateway_2

All I need is that interface "eth0" has two IPv4 addresses assigned
corresponding to networks of $gateway_1, and $gateway_2 .

BtW, did you ever get a chance to verify 'weight' assigned to network
routes, hmm...?

I just noticed, that I'm able to make a FSM for matching that expression, which

[ilugd] freenet6 - an IPv6 tunnel client packaged for Fedora 7

2007-11-12 Thread आशीष शुक्ल Ashish Shukla

Hi,

I've packaged freenet6 tunnel client[1] for Fedora 7[2]. I've only
packaged it for AMD64 architecture, anyone running IA32 can simply
build the RPM from SRPM.

Using freenet6 tunnel client, one can connect to the IPv6 internet.
This client runs in two modes, 'host' mode where user receives a single
/128 address and 'router' mode, where user is delegated an /64 or /48
prefix, which can be advertised in his network providing IPv6
connectivity to all members of network. One needs to register with
http://go6.net/ to recieve a static allocation. If trying to connect
anonymously (i.e. without registration or simply with no explicit
configuration) one will receive a dynamic IPv6 address.

The mails which we (ilugd subscribers) recieve from ilugd list are
also relayed from an IPv6 network.

- - - >8>8

You can even post to ilugd mailing list over IPv6 :) .

Users of later versions of Fedora, can simply rebuild the RPM from the
SRPM provided. The freenet6 is also available in repositories of other
distros also, e.g. in FreeBSD ports available at "net/freenet6", in
Gentoo portage available at "net-misc/freenet6", etc.

inotify will throw events, one has to listen to it. I think OP just
wanted to get latest created file in a directory, not to listen for
files creation events.

I've an Intel D945GNTL mobo which has all the hardware currently supported in
GNU/Linux, and even in FreeBSD 7.0-BETA1.5. And I used to run F-7
(amd64) with no issues, but since I've installed F-8 (amd64), I'm not
able to boot into it. I've reported the issue at Redhat Bugzilla[1].

So, if anyone got similar error, please report.

Are you doing this in GNOME ? And, is ESD enabled in GNOME ? If not,
disable it by deselecting in "Sounds" tab of "Sound Preferences"
(System->Preferences->Sound) . To assure that no ESD is not running
execute 'killall esd'.

Rename any '.asoundrc' in $HOME to something else.

Now execute "alsamixer" on terminal, and see if "PCM", "Front", and "Wave"
playback controls are not muted and not zeroed.

If you've any .WAV files, try playing them using:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] aplay file.wav

If you don't have any .wav files, use:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] aplay `which aplay`

This will produce some noise, which you can cancel by pressing Ctrl+C .
If you still didn't get hear any noise, post output of 'dmesg' .

| The packets will hit the PREROUTING chain first and the dst port will
| be modified therefore in your INPUT chain rule you give port 1203.
| Also there is no need to use state module , because you need to open
| this port for NEW as well as ESTABLISHED packets.
| iptables -t filter -A INPUT -i ppp0 -p tcp --dport 1203 -j ACCEPT

Thanks for above explaination. I figured out, that I'm not accepting the
new DNATted connection in INPUT chain. So I need to remove that
"-t filter -A FORWARD" rule, and change it to "-t filter -A NAT", as
packets will reach FORWARD chain only when packets are destined for this
host. :)

[ilugd] An "iptables" problem on Debian Etch (amd64)

2007-10-22 Thread आशीष शुक्ल Ashish Shukla
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

I used to connect to internet by PPPoE dialing to my ISP from my box
(172.16.0.3). I wanted to DNAT TCP packets coming from external world
on "9053" TCP port of "ppp0" interface (which gets created a result of
PPPoE dialing) to the my machine's ethernet interface (eth0)'s TCP port
"1203".

The network service which I wanted to expose is listening on 172.16.0.3:1203 .

For that I've created following iptables rules:

iptables -t filter -A INPUT -i ppp0 -p tcp -m state --state NEW --dport 9053
-j ACCEPT
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i ppp0 -p tcp --dport 9053 -j DNAT
--to-destination 172.16.0.3:1203
iptables -t filter -A FORWARD -d 172.16.0.3 -p tcp --dport 1203 -j ACCEPT

But unfortunately above rules are not working as documented. I've then
modified service to listen on same TCP port as exposed to external world,
i.e. "9053" . And also modified iptables rules accordingly and it
worked. Following are the new rules:

iptables -t filter -A INPUT -i ppp0 -p tcp -m state --state NEW --dport 9053
-j ACCEPT
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i ppp0 -p tcp --dport 9053 -j DNAT
--to-destination 172.16.0.3
iptables -t filter -A FORWARD -d 172.16.0.3 -p tcp --dport 9053 -j ACCEPT

I'm running Linux kernel version "2.6.18-5-amd64", can anyone tell what
I'm doing wrong ?

TIA

Normal CD (or Live CD) is a live CD, and can't be used as package source

has lesser memory requirements as compared to Live CD.

Paste the output of "lsusb" ? And also try loading 'cdc-ether' using

| For most of the people, the choice of the make of processors doesn't
| make any worthwhile difference(no matter how some folks would scream at
| you to believe). Go for any, suitable in your budget. Computers anyway
| have to be upgraded every 2-3 years. At the end of the day, probably the
| make and type of your power supply and cabinet, influences the life of
| your machine more than the processor itself would.
|
| My advice would be to never buy the latest and greatest(always too
| expensive to be worth it) processor. Settle down on a brand, take a look
| at the 2-3 processors at the midrange, make a call on the
| price/clock/feature balance, buy it and then worry most on getting a good
| cabinet, good power supply and power backup. The money you will save on
| the processor is better put into a good cabinet which can keep your
| processor healthy, as well as a good power supply.
|
| Most folks(like me till a short while back) have unnecessarily obsessed
| over the processor than the cabinet/power supply. e.g. look at this
| cabinet[1]. Wouldn't you like one like this which will keep your PC
| really cool(3 fans, 2 just to cool the hard disks), keep out the
| dust(with the dust filter, and remain quiet with its soundproof insides?
| You would be able to buy this with just the money you save from *not*
| buying an unnecessarily high end processor, or even a different make of
| processor.

True. I also suggest, get a good SMPS as most of the SMPS which comes
with normal desktop cabinets (costing around INR 1,000-1,200) don't give you
the rated output power and not even continuous output, resulting in HD/CD/DVD
drives
restarting in between. And also recommended, if you're going to use SATA
disks. Since SATA disks require a separate power connector for powering
SATA disks. These connectors are also of not good quality. So get a good
SMPS like "Cooler Master", or "Amigo" etc. These SMPS cost you more, but
comes with a builtin SATA power connectors, rated output power.

| what changes should i make to do proper configuration

When you try to connect to 192.168.0.10 from 192.168.0.61, connection
won't happen, because 192.168.0.10 belongs to the same logical network
(192.168.0.0/24) as 192.168.0.61, and but since 192.168.0.10 is not
physically present in the 192.168.0.{61-110} network, ARP fails,
therefore no connection.

You need to create route for 192.168.0.{10-60} to route via 10.81.0.25
in 192.168.0.{61-110,111-170} and similarly for others also. Also you
need to add these routes in the 192.168.0.{4,5} .

Instead of assigning 192.168.0.0/24 network for lab PCs, assign /26
addresses. I think you need to redesign logical network.

Hi,

I'm running Fedora 7 on AMD64 architecture CPU and installed a package
"freeciv" via "yum". "freeciv" requires "libSDL_mixer-1.2.so.0()(64bit)"
which no package currently provides it on my system. So my question is,
why 'rpm' installed a package without installing all its dependencies ?
Or it is a bug in 'yum' ?

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ rpm -q --requires freeciv |fgrep -i SDL
libSDL-1.2.so.0()(64bit)
libSDL_mixer-1.2.so.0()(64bit)

SDL-1.2.11-2
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ rpm -q --whatprovides 'libSDL_mixer-1.2.so.0()(64bit)'
no package provides libSDL_mixer-1.2.so.0()(64bit)

|
| Come to think of it, this is the same way the MTNL adsl modems are in
violation
| of the GPL. At least, I haven't seen any notice that says GPL source
| available for them on the MTNL website.
|
| The MTNL modem in the office for example runs a 2.6.8 linux kernel on a
hardware
| spec of 235.52 bogomips/6MB ram. It'd be fun to hack away at it.

My Beetel modem (220BX) which comes with Airtel Broadband also runs
Linux (tainted kernel) v. 2.6.8.1 on some Broadcom. And I've not received copy
of GPL or found any mention of the availability of source code with it.

[ilugd] How to add 'Hindi' as preferred language in Firefox 1.5.0.10 ?

to be missing from the list of languages. The preferred languages are used
