As the subject says, is there an all-FOSS MS Exchange server
replacement? One that does mail and calendaring with LookOut at least.

A built-in (or known to work) web-based mail and calendaring add-on
would be nice to have

Re: [ilugd] Running multiple SSL Virtual Hosts in Apache in single IP

2005-09-23 Thread Sumit Malhotra

Raj == Raj Shekhar [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

Raj in infinite wisdom Sumit Malhotra spoke thus On 09/23/2005
Raj 10:27 AM:
The SSL provides two layer of Security 1. SSL Layer for
 encryption

A warning Message for wrong certificate *generally* indicates
 a. The Server you are connecting has wrong certificate
installed. OR b. A man in middle Attack is in progress.

Hence, the purpose of saving your self from getting sniffed
 will void.

Raj Yes, I agree. However, if the data passing on the network is
Raj quite sensitive, then you are better off putting the vhosts
Raj on different IP and generating a SSL certificate for each.
Raj If, however, you want to have a quick hack to prevent the
Raj script kiddies from snooping your passwords (when using
Raj phpmyadmin or a cms running on http), then you can use the
Raj above method. It is not foolproof - please see the article I
Raj pointed out. The author notes that

Raj When you run multiple SSL sites from a single certificate,
Raj you have the same level of encryption that you would have on
Raj any correctly configured SSL site. However, you completely
Raj forfeit any authentication ordinarily offered by SSL.

When do you need validation and verification? Usually when you're
doing e-commerce on the SSL site and want the user to feel secure that
s/he is connecting to the right place and giving his/her CC number.

I just told you the options, using them or not are entirely based on
you.
It's definitely a better way of securing then using an HTACCESS.

Encryption, OTOH, is much more prevalent and ensures that your data is
protected in transit. Useful if you're filling confidential
information into web forms, etc., which many of us do on a daily
basis. The method suggested (allowing encryption without
verification) is a good way to achieve the latter. If you're, e.g.,
accepting CC numbers you would have paid for an extra IP and a
(useless IMO) global certificate anyway :)

There are many books/written on how the man in middle attacks are done.
Check out the book on Stealing the networks by Syngress if you need.

With the thread emphasis on being securing information from script
KIDDIE (As Shekhar mentioned in earlier threads.), I can safely assume
if a Kiddie can break into my Router/gateway/Machine to sniff then he
can play with the MAN in middle attacks.

BTW, I think you can get around the mis-match warning problem by
running your SSL VHOSTS on separate ports. Can anyone confirm/deny
this?

Nope. Not so Simple. You need to run Multiple Apache Server's with
Different Ports. Then it may work.

 http://www.onlamp.com/lpt/a/5629

This can be useful if you are running phpmyadmin/squirrelmail/wiki/cms
for your organization on the internet and you want to prevent contents
from being sniffed and you have a single IP. Since this is for your
internal use, it is OK to have the browser pop up the warning box.

... and since you are ok with the warning box anyway, you can use a
self

make everybody import its cert to eliminate unrecognized CA errors.

One tip : I have seen less conflicts when we upgrade when we upgrade

RE: [ilugd] Using Yum to Upgrade FC2 to FC3]

2004-12-21 Thread Sumit Malhotra

Hey Gaurav ,

This is the issue in your yum.conf directory try pointing it to some
other yum repository.

You may also face this issue if you can do download RPM's on your server
via HTTP (may be route, DNS issues). \

This error may also come when you press Control+C :-) Try waiting
for a while or run it using yum -y upgrade

One tip : I have seen less conflicts when we upgrade when we upgrade
from fc2-fc3 BASE rather than updated one.

 Thanks
 Sumit

Umm, did you ask Touchtel whether it'll work with Linux or not before
you took the connection? I didn't take up Dishnet DSL, oh so many
years ago, precisely because their DSL modem wasn't supported under
Linux.

Or better yet, sue them for not making their connection work with your

May be I am wrong but as per my info TouchTel provides two types of
modem for DSL users.
1.Ethernet modem
2.USB.

I don't remember the model name. But the Ethernet modem the Touchtel
provides have the capability of PPOE type connectivity which woks with
linux pretty well.

Even Better the Ethernet modem allows you to just connect to router by
making default route as the IP of the Modem. i.e. modem will itself
act as a modem + Router ( NAT enabled)

The USB Modem sucks with all types of problems with both windows and
linux. Touchtel itself is now *recommending * the Ethernet modem

RE: [ilugd] Pointers on ssh

2004-07-28 Thread Sumit Malhotra
Can you SSH to that system from inside to the any publicly available
SSHBOX (Free servers are available)? If yes, you can SSH forwarding will
help you in that case..
You can set up a system when you SSH to public system, at port other
than 22 then you can reach the local IP of you system.
 For details refer SSH Manual

You will have to ask the cable wallah to implement port forwarding on
his server / router so that incoming requests on port 22 (or some
other

address. If he has a spare public IP address, he can also do a DNAT

That is the problem. One he is un-willing and more over un-able

belonging to different people and all may want him to port forward to
their box.
Any tunnelling system any one can advise.

Re: [ilugd] Postfix - help me!!!

2004-07-12 Thread Sumit Malhotra
My Dear Amit ,

Please check what the nslookup command states :

** server can't find pcq: NXDOMAIN
this means pcq can't be resolved by your name server ( DNS) 100.0.0.1

if you have any confusion check the concept of DNS server and Name
Resolution fundamentals.

Clue: First of all check whether your server pcq is reachable from host from
where you are trying telnet .

ping ip of pcq

Sumit

  Can you resolve pcq ??
try nslookup pcq on the host from where you are trying to telnet .

 [snip]

 [snip]

 'nslookup pcq' shows

 [EMAIL PROTECTED] root]# nslookup pcq
Note: nslookup is deprecated and may be removed from future releases.
Consider using the `dig' or `host' programs instead. Run nslookup with
the `-sil[ent]' option to prevent this message from appearing.
 Server: 100.0.0.1
 Address:100.0.0.1#53

** server can't find pcq: NXDOMAIN

but my local network is 192.168.1.xx !!!

also nslookup thing i guess is not a prob as my other server that is
running
sendmail is also not accessbale thru nslookup command but still i am able
to
telnet its port 25. so DNS is not a issue.

 hi,

in all this my question is still left unanswered !!

yes, i am able to telnet port 110 and my telnet service is also on. no
Iptales/Firewall is running still unable to telnet port 25

 also, nmap -sS 127.0.0.1 shows

 PORT STATE SERVICE
 22/tcp open ssh
 23/tcp open telnet
 25/tcp open smtp
 109/tcp open pop-2
 110/tcp open pop-3
 111/tcp open rpcbind
 143/tcp open imap
 631/tcp open ipp
 993/tcp open imaps
 995/tcp open pop3s
 1030/tcp open iad1
 1031/tcp open iad2

so that means port is open, then why i get

[EMAIL PROTECTED] root]# telnet localhost 25
 Trying 127.0.0.1...
 Connected to localhost.
 Escape character is '^]'.
 Connection closed by foreign host.

 any hints ???

 amit

 Hello Sir,

   Thank you for your reply.

Sir i know it is based on client server concept.

Actually sir i am trying to configure cvs through
linux-bsd-central.com

Every step is properly follow but when i type cvslogin:pserver

 it says unknow host.

I am not getting the solution.

 Thanks

CVS: - It works on client server concept so both can reside on the same
 machine or different machine.

A2- Goggle it out ... solution depends on the various factors. like what
you need to cluster? What do you want to achieve?

 Any pointers.
