[ilugd] sendmail query

2004-09-20 Thread manoj.thakkar

Hi All,

We need to create a rule on SendMail server on linux or solaris to
forward all SMTP requests from a particular application server to a
single mail account. This should be a IP/DNS based rule.

This means if outgoing mail request comes from server A it should
forward to the recipient,whereas if outgoing mail request comes from
server B,it should forward to a specified mail account.

Thanks & Best Regards
Manoj Thakkar

The Pc doesn't have the cd drive so can't copy the kernel tarball anyway
thts why I was looking for nfs to work so that I can copy it from any
other place infact mount is not working so not left with any choice what
if I try make -k maodules will it be of any help .
The kernel is as I said above 2.4.2 I just put a .c & .h file with there
appropriate entries in entry.S unistd.h is there something I am doing
wrong  Kindly suggest

is it possible for you to get a current/latest kernel tarball,
and do a recompilation this way? also, why is it failing to make
modules? are you using 2.4 or 2.6? could it be because you are
trying to install 2.6 kernel, and you don't have module-init-tools
installed? what is the kernel you are using? not very clear here.

settle your problem, before approaching to fix nfs.

Eugene

[ilugd] IRQ Conflict RH 9.0

2004-04-27 Thread manoj.thakkar

Hi

I have just installed RH 9.0 on my PC the n/w card was not recognized I
checked and found its broadcom 5700 so got binaries from the website and
compiled them but when I am trying to insert the modules it says
something like problem installing init_module

May be due to IO or IRQ errors for more info see syslog or dmesg

I checked dmesg found IRQ3 shared

Then I checked /proc/pci and found that the IRQ3 is shared by USB
controller and the Ethernet controller

And this what happens also when I say kudzu -p the mouse(which is USB)
starts behaving erratically and I have to restart my pc.

Any suggestions how to resolve it

Thanks & Best Regards

Manoj Thakkar

i don't like your mail client. can yu tell me what it is so that i
should never recommend it to anyone. as for upgrading xfree86, i did
that to make it work on intel 845. i had installed mandrake 9.0 which
came with xfree86 4.2 on one of the machines which had i845 based
motherboard. and intel i845 support was in xfree86 4.3 cvs.

so i had to download the cvs, compile it and after everything was done,
i was successfully able to use my intel 845 on mandrake 9.0.

Manoj >>> Hi Vivek
looks like I am also stuck in the same problem My m/c also has intel 845
chipset which is not supported by RH 7.1

My code has dependency on RH 7.1 so I can't change the RH to another
version Will you please tell me what all I need to do to upgrade it to
Xfree86 4.3 cvs As I tried upgrading it had several dependencies and one
of them was kernel-drm which is again a problem Please assist .

also, it seems your version of xfree86 does not support i810, so
upgrading your X should make a difference as it'll have all the latest
drivers. now how to do it, that yu'll need to find out. but afaik if yu
upgrade it, it'll work.

it is quite difficult to get to the relevant information when you reply
to messages. everything is in running text. are yu using HTML to compose
your messages? what mail client are yu using?

anyway, if yu use xf86config do yu see intel 810 listed anywhere? if not
most probably upgrading xfree86 will solve the problem, but afaik redhat
7.1 includes i810 support

Manoj Vivek I am using plain text only to send mails and I didn't
find any intel810 listed while configuring the display using xf86config
or setup XConfiguration .
Will upgrading the Xfree86 work ??? I doubt

I dont know about system crash(which is too general a term anyway), but
yes, they do give an unbootable system which you have to recover. Most
of the problems involve bootloader or incorrect fstab related problems.

Never heard of this.
All I got to know from people is this only tht they give you one
bootable cd with some of the data erased and you have to analyse the
core dump part. Don't know much about it but just heard of it also there
were some pointers on internet stating the same so need some help on how
to solve it

How is that going to help?

Readup about fstab, mount, grub (and optionally lilo) properly. put in
incorrect setting in grub.conf, reboot and try to recover the original
settings.

try this:

1. "export MAXSYMLINKS=30"

2.  "file /usr/bin/X11/XFree86"

You should get at least something like this:

/usr/bin/X11/XFree86: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1
(SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.2.0, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped

if not, you are probably in trouble. maybe reinstall X

3. create the soft link /etc/X11/X to your XFree86 executable (from previous
step)  i.e. "ln -s  /usr/bin/X11/XFree86  /etc/X11/X "

try to start X and see if you can manage anything. If X crashes, post the log.

btw, what filesystem are you using?

Manoj --> Thanks a lot Bhaskar but it works now I after running e2fsck some of the
services were not running after reboot I run the system in init3 then in init5 and
then removed the symbolic link of /etc/X11/X and copy X from some other system and
tried running startx and it worked though I have not restarted the system after that
Hope nothing wrong after reboot too.

Thanks a lot for all of you for helping me in right direction.

Run fsck.

Error 40 is ELOOP (see /usr/include/asm/errno.h), which happens if too
many symbolic links were encountered while resolving a file name. And
if this started happening suddenly, your filesystem is probably sick.

(And please, oh please, try to properly quote the text you're replying

What is the output of #df -h.
Looks like you don't have any disk space left
on your harddisk. (wild wild guess)

[ilugd] RH 7.1 not able to access GUI

2004-04-05 Thread manoj.thakkar

Hi all,

I have a RH 7.1 system which was working fine suddenly the system
stopped showing anything on the screen may be bcoz of inactivity I
thought and restarted the system but even after writing reboot nothing
happened so I rebooted it manually by powering off and on

But now the GUI is not working evenif I write startx on the root prompt
I am getting the following errors

error in locking authority file /root/.Xauthority

Could not create lock file in /tmp/tX0-lock

I google but couldn' find anything specific tried altering my XF86config
file manually as well as using the setup command from shell still no
luck

I also tried copying XF86config from some other linux system and
modifying it as per my system still no luck .

Is there someone who has faced such problem before and can help me.

Thanks & Regards

Manoj Thakkar

[ilugd] facing problem in putting a kernel module

2004-03-04 Thread manoj.thakkar

Hi I am a newbie to kernel module programming

I have just written a code as follows

Bu whn I run make then it says printk not found and all

Looks like some kernel header files are missing

Is there anybody who has tried and know how to make it to work

/* hello-2.c - Demonstrating the module_init() and module_exit() macros.
This is the

* preferred over using init_module() and cleanup_module().

*/

#include // Needed by all modules

#include  // Needed for KERN_ALERT

#include // Needed for the macros

static int hello_2_init(void)

{

printk(KERN_ALERT "Hello, world 2\n");

return 0;

}

static void hello_2_exit(void)

{

printk(KERN_ALERT "Goodbye, world 2\n");

}

module_init(hello_2_init);

module_exit(hello_2_exit);

here is the makefile

TARGET := hello-2

WARN := -W -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-prototypes

INCLUDE := -isystem /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build/include

CFLAGS := -O2 -DMODULE -D__KERNEL__ ${WARN} ${INCLUDE}

CC := gcc-3.0

${TARGET}.o: ${TARGET}.c

.PHONY: clean

RE: [ilugd] rsh.... no tickets cashed

2004-02-19 Thread manoj.thakkar

Hi Sandeep
Thanks a lot dear
It works
But you were not 100% correct anyways it worked
 I was checking rpm for krb5 it says Kerberos package not installed
Then I tried rpm -e krb5-workstation as u said
I got dependencies on krb5-server
So I removed both krb5-server nad krb5-workstation and it worked
Thanks on ce again
May be it may help someone else some other time

Cheers

That is because the kerberos enabled clients are getting invoked before
the regular ones. If you dont use kerberos, remove the krb5-workstation
package from your system:
e.g.
   rpm -e krb5-workstation

>>>sendmail is unable to get the MX record of the domain

This is the case when the mail server is unable to send mails on a
single domain and its working perfect on other domains.

## but when I try sending mail to *anywhere* outside say abc.com it says
## connecting to abc.com via esmtp

Then DNS may not be the prime issue rather relaying can be a problem.
Contact your ISP, if they have properly given a relay to your IPs.

Or you can make your own SMTP server without using the ISP one.

Edit /etc/sendmail.cf and change 127.0.0.1 --> Public IP
And vi /etc/mail/relay-domains and give the IP block of your network.
You can use this as your SMTP server.

HTH...

Gurpreet

Manoj.

I suggest u change

DSmailrelayerverip.com

to

DSMail.Relay.IPV4.ADDRESS

eg
DS192.168.100.1

and see if it works.

one point to note is, that ur ISP relay server shld allow u to relay
SMTP. (But it does not hv to do the problem u r facing now)

RE: RE: [ilugd] sendmail problem :(

2004-02-17 Thread manoj.thakkar

Hi Shekhar,

Thanks for your concern dear but still no luck
Here is wht is happening

if u do an nslookup...
1.) does the query go to the primary Name server? {it shld go} yes

2.) does it resolvce the domain?? {it shld resolve} yes

3.) does it telnet (port 25)to the MX by IP address?? If by MX you mean
y relay server address then yes also to my own sever I am able to telnet
at port 25

4.) Does it telnet (port 25) to the MX by FQDN?? FQDN??? Couldn't get it
m sorry

as I told you I made the following changes in sendmail.cf

DSmailrelayerverip.com
O DaemonPortOptions=Port=smtp,Addr=0.0.0.0, Name=MTA
That is it
Is ther anything need to be changed in access domaintable .
Also I have put an entry in /etc/hosts
Saying my mailrelayserver name and ip thts it

Hope I am clear with my setup now.

sendmail is unable to get the MX record of the domain, kindly see if
DNS is properly configured, and you can get the MX for the domain, by
issuing NSLOOKUP command on the mailserver.

Hi Sandip,
I have configured samba 2.X/squid and linux and windows 98 as
workstation. I
have spent a lot of time in configuring win 2k and XP but I am not able
to
use linux as PDC and XP/2k as workstation (I have tried it with linux
9.0
and samba 3.X).

i am attaching the following files (redhat 6.2 and samba 2.X)
1. /etc/smb.conf
2. /etc/host
3. reg file for win 2k, win XP

Thanks,

Kedar Dash
