The easiest is the northwest door, but if you are on the other side, you will
need to go straight west once you enter the building, it is in that hallway,
but almost all the way at the other end of the building. If you want, just

[info-tech]help before i got completely insane

2009-04-03 Thread Mitch Mueller
I need help from anyone that can help me. We recently bought a mobile lab cart
with 30 hp laptops and have nothing but problems with them. They came loaded
with Vista Business and have plenty of RAM and processor speed to do what we
need. Just never have any luck with printing to the printer on the cart,
accessing the internet, loading up students personal drives and the mapped
drives. I will log in as administrator, fix the wireless card and than log off
and hand it to a student and then it will lose the connection. I log back on
as administrator and will have to repair the wireless again. Anyone out there
have some suggestions on what to try or can tell me who has no issues with
wireless that i could come visit them before i decide to start throwing these
laptops and not joking about them.

RE: [info-tech]help before i got completely insane

2009-04-03 Thread Frerichs, Chad
Are these N-draft cards? If so, we had an issue with those dealing with
fragmentation/RTS thresholds. We had some old b cards that did not like large
Frag/RTS thresholds so we had them set low. The N-Draft cards do not like them
that low and exhibit behavior similar to what you are describing. So, to fix it
we increased the Fragmentation threshold to 2048 and the RTS threshold to 2049
and now all is well with the N-draft cards. However, the old b cards no longer
function, which is mostly ok for us since we no longer use those devices except
for 1 old palm pilot to program the door locks.

RE: [info-tech]help before i got completely insane

2009-04-03 Thread Koenck, Chris
I agree also with the problem with third party wireless management. It
seems as though it waits until a user is logged on using cached
credentials to enable the wireless connection. With Windows managing the
connection, it seems like the connection is active immediately when the
laptop is fired up. I don't know why you would want it the other way??
It would not allow a new domain user to log on with a wireless
connection. Anyway hope that helps...

[info-tech] Sophos

2009-04-03 Thread Richardson,Tony
Anyone out there using Sophos Antivirus. I want to move it to a new
server. I have it setup correctly according to Sophos Techs but the CID
doesn't update. Will not pull files from the parent to populate the
Interchk/ESXP shared folder. Checked that Sophos was allowed through the
firewall and it does download about 73 megs of DAT files which it uses
to build the distribution package but never does the package. Folder
rights are correct. It is 2008 server. Anyone seen this?

The frag/rts settings would be somewhere in your AP software. I do not know
what kind you are running, or even if you can set them. So these are the
a/b/g/n-draft cards?

I thought Aaron said it was an AP software patch and not a Windows patch. I
think it is very dependent on what APs you are running as far as that patch
goes.

Ok. I applied that patch and still hasn't done anything. When I did that
patch though, VISTA would give me an error that it didn't install correctly.
Also how do you do any of that frag. settings?

I might add that Aaron Bennis said Akeny was having a similar issue with
different APs and had to apply a patch to fix it.

Is there wireless software on them, like Belkin (?), or something that is
taking control of the wireless instead of the Windows administration of the
wireless? We ran into that here. All I did was either remove or disable that

However, the old b cards no longer
function, which is mostly ok for us since we no longer use those devices except
for 1 old palm pilot to program the door locks.

issues with Vista and printers. We found that some of our printers had

One thing that I always had some issues with on Vista with printers was
when we turned off UAC. Some printers did not seem to install when UAC
was off. If you turned it back on, and went through its UAC process,
they would work fine. We only have about 4 Vista machines here, and
they are all in use by people who can do their own support. So, they
don't seem to ever call us.

Have a great weekend everyone, and enjoy the Friday 4:00 ICN session!!!
