Re: [JAWS-Users] is information mb ram accessible using jaws

2009-03-14 Thread tim

A quick way to get this info.
hold down your windows key and the pause key at same time and let go.
The pause key is the last key on right of the pack of three keys
above the num pad.
This will bring up the system properties. now just route jaws to pc
and arrow down to read ram and a lot more info.

[JAWS-Users] Repeated Messages and the jaws 10 update

2009-03-14 Thread Dixie
It appears that since the latest update Jaws is often reading things more
than once...for example in Windows mail, Jaws will say "15 messages 10
unread," over and over, two or three times consecutively.
Or in writing a message and tabbing through the to, cc, and bcc fields it
will read who the message is to in all 3 fields even when the cc, and bcc
are blank it is reading the to field information in those empty fields.

Using Windows Vista and Jaws 10.0.1139

Another example is that when I just went in to get the version number from
the About box, Jaws read the bottom line of this box more than once...is
this a setting or a bug?
Thanks,
Dixie

No. If you are entitled to JAWS10 it will run fine when installed. Go to
the full download ftp as Eric and others have given it, to download the
JAWS10 full (now latest) version.

I know I have it but can't find the disk as it's not brailled the version on

It appears that since the latest update Jaws is often

Or in writing a message and tabbing through the to, cc, and

Another example is that when I just went in to get the

this a setting or a bug?

I use jaws in a productivity environment and find this quirk
to be extremely annoying however Jaws is the only screen
reader that comes close to working with our proprietary
software, so I live with the habitual repeat and regularly
scheduled Jaws restarts that occur at the most critical
times.

[JAWS-Users] Repeating Words and Characters

2009-03-14 Thread Denny Huff
After installing the new Jaws 10 upgrade I am having a problem reading email
messages and documents. I am using Vista and Office 2007 and when I try and
read a message in Outlook or a document in Word using the control right or left
arrow each word is repeated twice. I also get double characters when just
using the left and right arrow.
I went to the Jaws manage applications and unchecked Outlook 2007 and Word 2007
and the problem was corrected. But when I rebooted the problem came back and
those items were still unchecked.
I don't have this problem using Windows Mail or Word Pad, just Office 2007
applications.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Repeating Words and Characters

2009-03-14 Thread Brian Lee

Hello Denny,

As you know the "manage application settings" dialog is for letting a user
use customized settings made either through the Configuration Manager or by
a script. When you remove the checkmark then JAWS uses the default settings
rather than the customized settings. If JAWS worked when you removed the
checkmark then that would indicate that JAWS is having a problem with the
custom settings. There is also a remove choice in the "Manage application
settings" dialog. Use the tab key to move to it. You might consider
removing the customized settings for Outlook 2007 and for Word 2007 to see
if the problem gets resolved when you reboot. If not then check in the
"Manage applications settings" dialog again to make sure the entries were
removed. If removing the checkmark worked until you rebooted the system
then I think removing the entries might well work for you.

Take care.
This list box is a directory of applications in which the default
configuration values were changed using either Configuration Manager or a
script. A check box appears before each modified application. If the check
box is checked, JAWS uses the customized settings. If the check box is
unchecked, JAWS will not use the customized settings.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Repeating Words and Characters

2009-03-14 Thread Brian Lee

Hello again Denny,

I am not sure if what I mentioned in the last message will work. It might
be that using the remove function from the "Manage applications settings"
dialog will just remove the entries from the list. I don't know if JAWS
will stop using the custom settings when you reboot. You might consider
removing entries for Outlook and Word 2007 in the "my settings" folder. You
can open that folder by navigating to the JAWS 10 program group and opening
the "explore JAWS" menu. Choose the "explore my settings" and you can find
any customized configurations or scripts in that folder.

Take care.

Another example is that when I just went in to get the

this a setting or a bug?

Is anyone using this version with JAWS? Is it worth it or necessary to

It's always a good idea to upgrade to the latest version of a utility like
CCleaner, because it may contain enhancements that improve its performance.
I'm running the latest version, and it works fine with JAWS 9.

What program are you having trouble with? If the Applications Context Sen
To submenu does not already contain an option for desktop (create shortcut),
there is no easy way to add it. Instead, you can use the alternate method
to create a desktop icon for the program in question. Press Win key-M to
launch the deskttop, then hit F5. Then hit the Applications key, arrow down
to New submenu and select Shortcut. Either type in the address patth to the
program if you know it (not likely), or use the browse option to build the
pathway to the program. Use the right arrow to open each branch of the path
and left arrow to close it. Use first letter navigation to select an item
from each list of folders and files. This may take some trial and error,
but you should be able to locate the program you want to create a desktop
icon for.

Could it be you're on the sub menu instead of the exe file of the program.
If that is the case, go to the exe file and than hit the content key. and
send to and creat shortcut. that should work.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Adding to Send To

2009-03-14 Thread Mike & Barbara
Hi Gerald & RJ,
When she presses enter on the "Send To" selection under Applications menu
there are no choices for Desktop create shortcut or Mail Recipient. We are
trying to find out how to add these 2 choices to the "Send To" submenu. I
just found out before typing this reply that she doesn't have a Microsoft
Office/Word program on her computer. Could this be the reason that these 2
choices are not included in the "Send To" submenu? As far as what program,
with any program that she presses the application key and presses enter on
"Send To" these 2 choices are not there. Thanks a lot for your patience
with us on trying to resolve this problem. Take care.

This may take some trial and error,
but you should be able to locate the program you want to create a desktop
icon for.

No. If you are entitled to JAWS10 it will run fine when installed. Go to
the full download ftp as Eric and others have given it, to download the
JAWS10 full (now latest) version.

before you install the new build, perhaps you need to first uninstall

remove your original JAWS10 and its folders - particularly if it was
downloaded from the Web. Then try installing the new build. Or, if
the

original JAWS10 was downloaded from the Web, you could uninstall it and
then
install it with the JAWS10 CD, and then update it via JAWS Updates.
(For

safety, just check that JAWS10 one, before doing any other updates

A quick way to get this info.
hold down your windows key and the pause key at same time and let go. The
pause key is the last key on right of the pack of three keys above the num
pad.
This will bring up the system properties. now just route jaws to pc and
arrow down to read ram and a lot more info.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Adding to Send To

2009-03-14 Thread Brian Lee

Hello Mike,

The "mail recipient" menu item should have been added by default to the
SendTo menu in XP. You might check to see if it is in the SendTo folder
under "default user" or another account on the system and just copy it from
the folder under the other user account to the folder in your friend's user
account. Navigate into "documents and settings" on the local drive and open
a different user account. Press "S" until you find the SendTo folder and
press enter to open it. Find the "mail recipient" choice if available and
copy it to the clipboard. You can then go back to the user account where
the "mail recipient" menu choice was missing and open it. Open the SendTo
folder and paste the file from the clipboard.

To add "desktop" and "mail recipient" to the SendTo Menu you can do the
following

1. Press Windows key with the letter "R" to bring up the Run dialog box.
2. Type "Shell:SendTo" (without the quotes) and press the enter key.
3. Make sure that nothing is selected. Bring up the "file" menu and go into
the "new" submenu. Use down arrow to the "shortcut" choice and press enter
key. .

4. Use tab key to move to the "browse" button and press spacebar.
In the tree structure that appears use up arrow to the top and you should
find "desktop." Use tab key to the "OK button and press enter key.

5. Use tab key to the "next" button and press enter.
6. Name the new item with the name you want to have used for the item in the
SendTo menu, use tab key to move to the "finish" button and press enter key.
A new shortcut is created in the SendTo folder, and it is displayed on the
Send To menu.

If you can not copy the "mail recipient" choice from any other user account
then you can create the menu choice as follows:

1. use windows key with the letter "R" to bring up the Run dialog box.
2. Type in "Shell:SendTo" without the quotes and then press enter key.
3. Go into the File menu and then into the "new" submenu and use down arrow
to the "text document" choice. Press enter key on that choice.

4. Rename the text file to Mail Recipient.MAPIMail
5. Answer "yes" when you are told that changing a file extension might make
the file unusable . After renaming the file the .MAPIMail extension might
be hidden but the "Mail recipient" entry should now be in the SendTo menu.

Again, if you can find the "mail recipient" file in another user's "SendTo"
folder, copying and pasting it would probably be faster.

Take care.

Settings/username/SendTo folder, the Mail Recipient command is not shown
when you point
to Send To on the File menu.

1. Start-menu, type r=Run, type:
 regsvr32 /u %windir%\system32\sendmail.dll
 and then press OK.
2. Type the following command to reregister, and then click OK:

 regsvr32 %windir%\system32\sendmail.dll

hope this helps your friend.

hello;

When you point to Send To on the File menu, or you right-click a file and
then point to Send To, the Mail Recipient command may be missing.
This behavior can occur if the "Mail Recipient.MAPIMail" file is missing
from the SendTo folder.

For Microsoft Outlook Express 5.0 and Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0,
follow

these steps.
When the .MAPIMail file does not exist in the Disk:/Documents and

Hello Mike,

SendTo menu in XP. You might check to see if it is in the SendTo folder
under "default user" or another account on the system and just copy it
from the folder under the other user account to the folder in your
friend's user account. Navigate into "documents and settings" on the
local drive and open a different user account. Press "S" until you find
the SendTo folder and press enter to open it. Find the "mail recipient"
choice if available and copy it to the clipboard. You can then go back
to

the user account where the "mail recipient" menu choice was missing and
open it. Open the SendTo folder and paste the file from the clipboard.

Bring up the "file" menu and go
into the "new" submenu. Use down arrow to the "shortcut" choice and
press

enter key. .
4. Use tab key to move to the "browse" button and press spacebar.
In the tree structure that appears use up arrow to the top and you should
find "desktop." Use tab key to the "OK button and press enter key.
5. Use tab key to the "next" button and press enter.
6. Name the new item with the name you want to have used for the item in
the SendTo menu, use tab key to move to the "finish" button and press
enter key.
A new shortcut is created in the SendTo folder, and it is displayed on
the

Send To menu.

If you can not copy the "mail recipient" choice from any other user
account then you can create the menu choice as follows:

1. use windows key with the letter "R" to bring up the Run dialog box.
2. Type in "Shell:SendTo" without the quotes and then press enter key.
3. Go into the File menu and then into the "new" submenu and use down
arrow to the "text document" choice. Press enter key on that choice.
4. Rename the text file to Mail Recipient.MAPIMail
5. Answer "yes" when you are told that changing a file extension might
make the file unusable . After renaming the file the .MAPIMail
extension
might be hidden but the "Mail recipient" entry should now be in the
SendTo

menu.

Again, if you can find the "mail recipient" file in another user's
"SendTo" folder, copying and pasting it would probably be faster.

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] Problem Updating JAWS

2009-03-14 Thread dcaldbeck
Hi all, obviously, I have JAWS update working now, but it took some
creativity. I would like to describe my steps, and have someone tell me, if
they can, why I had the problems I did. I like to troubleshoot in case this
comes up in the future. Anyway, I used the update feature on JAWS. I
received an error message just like everyone else. As suggested, I went to
FS website to do a download of the 32-bit version. It said there was a
version of JAWS on my hard drive and that I must delete it. Well, I deleted
the JAWS 10 on my computer -- yes, a mistake on my part. Then I got out my
JAWS 9 and 10 CDs to try and load JAWS and nothing happened. I thought JAWS
was always supposed to load from the CD -- yes, I had the correct CD.
Anyway, I then loaded Narrator, went to the FS website and downloaded
current JAWS. I just tried it, my CD drive is working. My question is, why
wasn't I able to load either JAWS 9 or 10 from my CD? Sorry for the long
post!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Adding to Send To

2009-03-14 Thread Mike & Barbara
Hi Brian & David,

We would like to thank you both for your excellent yet easy to follow
instructions on this issue. We did find both Desktop "create shortcut" &
Mail Recipient in the Send To subfolder in the Default folder in Documents &
Settings on the "C" Drive. I had her copy the "Mail Recipient" choice and
we then pasted it into the Send To folder in her name "Janet" folder. Being
that the Desktop create shortcut choice is also in the Default/Send To
folder, can we copy it and paste it like we did with the Mail Recipient
choice? I hope that I didn't just confuse the hell out of all of you with
what I just typed, because it certainly confused the hell out of me. Again,
Brian & David thankyou very much for the easy to read directions. Take
care.

1. use windows key with the letter "R" to bring up the Run dialog box.
2. Type in "Shell:SendTo" without the quotes and then press enter key.
3. Go into the File menu and then into the "new" submenu and use down arrow

[JAWS-Users] 64 bit systems?

2009-03-14 Thread Kliph A M
Hello, is anyone using jaws with a 64 bit system yet? Wanting to know how
stable it is and if it really moves faster. Since the shelf is pretty much
filled with them now and 32 bit is yesterdays news.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Adding to Send To

2009-03-14 Thread Brian Lee

Hello Mike,

Copying the desktop (as shortcut) choice from a different user's SendTo
folder and pasting it in the SendTo folder of the user's account where you
want it should work. Otherwise, I am quite sure that when you use the
regsvr32 sendmail.dll command to register the MAPIMail DLL that the "desktop
(as shortcut) will also be restored. Also, in my last message I mentioned
about adding "desktop" as a location in the SendTo menu. When you do it
using the method I mentioned, you can name the shortcut "desktop (as
shortcut)" (without the quotes) if you want to. However, when you browse
to the desktop choice in the tree structure you are choosing it as the
destination for the shortcut and when you send a file using that choice in
the SendTo menu, the item will go to the desktop.

Take care.

Hi Brian & David,

We would like to thank you both for your excellent yet easy to follow
instructions on this issue. We did find both Desktop "create shortcut" &
Mail Recipient in the Send To subfolder in the Default folder in Documents
&

Settings on the "C" Drive. I had her copy the "Mail Recipient" choice and
we then pasted it into the Send To folder in her name "Janet" folder.
Being

that the Desktop create shortcut choice is also in the Default/Send To
folder, can we copy it and paste it like we did with the Mail Recipient
choice? I hope that I didn't just confuse the hell out of all of you with
what I just typed, because it certainly confused the hell out of me.
Again,

Brian & David thankyou very much for the easy to read directions. Take
care.

Mike

Hello Mike,

The "mail recipient" menu item should have been added by default to the
SendTo menu in XP. You might check to see if it is in the SendTo folder
under "default user" or another account on the system and just copy it
from
the folder under the other user account to the folder in your friend's
user
account. Navigate into "documents and settings" on the local drive and
open

a different user account.

Bring up the "file" menu and go
into
the "new" submenu. Use down arrow to the "shortcut" choice and press
enter

key. .
4. Use tab key to move to the "browse" button and press spacebar.
In the tree structure that appears use up arrow to the top and you should
find "desktop." Use tab key to the "OK button and press enter key.
5. Use tab key to the "next" button and press enter.
6. Name the new item with the name you want to have used for the item in
the
SendTo menu, use tab key to move to the "finish" button and press enter
key.

A new shortcut is created in the SendTo folder, and it is displayed on the
Send To menu.

If you can not copy the "mail recipient" choice from any other user
account

then you can create the menu choice as follows:

1. use windows key with the letter "R" to bring up the Run dialog box.
2. Type in "Shell:SendTo" without the quotes and then press enter key.
3. Go into the File menu and then into the "new" submenu and use down
arrow

to the "text document" choice. Press enter key on that choice.
4. Rename the text file to Mail Recipient.MAPIMail
5. Answer "yes" when you are told that changing a file extension might
make
the file unusable . After renaming the file the .MAPIMail extension
might

be hidden but the "Mail recipient" entry should now be in the SendTo menu.

Again, if you can find the "mail recipient" file in another user's
"SendTo"

folder, copying and pasting it would probably be faster.

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] dvd audio extracter

2009-03-14 Thread Candy Lowe
I would like to extract the audio from DVD files that I have on my computer and
also from some DVDs. Can someone give me the name of a program that will
convert them to MP3 so I can play them on my MP3 player.
Thanks for any help in advance. I know that this subject has been discussed
before, but I wasn't interested in doing it at the time.
If you all wish to write me off list so the rest of the group doesn't have to
go through this again, that is fine.
Thanks.
