Re: [JAWS-Users] Trouble With New Netbook and JAWS
I have that happen occasionally on pretty much any computer I've used Jaws on. I skipped over version 8 so I don't have any direct experience with it. However, here are a couple of things I've found helpful. You can try minimizing everything and then going back to internet explorer. That works sometimes. What I found worked most consistantly is to use the jaws links list to move right to the link in question. After that, you route the jaws cursor to the pc cursor and then do a right click. I'm fairly certain that your netbook wouldn't be the problem here. It is an Acer Aspire One. It has JAWS 8 with Windows XP Home installed on it. I tried to download several files this evening and neither the Applications key nor the right mouse button would work properly. Instead of displaying the option to download a file, it would merely allow you to save the web page and not the file being linked to. I had my dad, who is sighted, use the touch-screen mouse pad and download several files. He was able to do it without problems. Every time I used the arrow keys, pressing the Applications key or the right mouse button only resulted in pulling down a menu to change the background display. Are there certain netbooks that JAWS does not interface well with? Any help would be appreciated. T. H. I have an Acer Aspire with Jaws 11 but am not getting this problem. Can I suggest that you do the following. Go back to the web page you are having problems with. Cursor to the link you are trying to download from but do not press on it. Now press insert F7 to bring up the links list. Make sure the link you want is highlighted in the list. If it is not move up or down to that link. Now press tab once to go to the move to link button. Press space on the button to move to the link. Make sure now that you do not touch the touch pad arrow keys or any other keys. Now press the application key and hopefully the right context menu will come up. Hello everyone, I am interested in purchasing carbonite.com to back up all of my files. In reviewing any product of this nature it is important to know exactly what will be backed up. For example, certain of these back-up products do not back up emails stored in outlook. Another consideration -- how easy is it to retrieve and use the data once it has been backed up. Respectfully, Russell J. [JAWS-Users] Serendipitous discovery
A few days ago someone mentioned that he had gotten a laptop with the number pad on it and I was bummed out because I had just gotten this Acer and did not think to check for a number pad when buying it. With all the problems I have had getting it set up and working properly I was not really happy with it. But now since my sister pointed out that it does indeed, have the number pad I am now thrilled with it. I have always carried a separate full size keyboard with me to use with my old laptop. This keyboard on my new Acer is really full sized. By marking several vital keys with raised bumps and stick on Velcro for ease of use I am now able to use the keyboard easily. The laptop was very reasonable, too. Wal-Mart had them on sale for $349 at the beginning of November So if anyone is looking for the laptop with the number pad built in check out Acer. This unit has 4 gb ram and 250 HD with Windows 7 64 bit. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

This unit has 4 gb ram and 250 HD with Windows 7 64 bit. hello David, I am not able to upgrade just now. the thing is not clear to me, Demo JAWS stopped after 40 minutes. So, after 40 minutes what will be my way, if I want to stop reading for few minutes and start reading after sometime? Experimenting with the full version of FSReader that comes with Jaws 11 I have found that it is very good at reading mp3 audio books. In particular the capacity to increase reading rate with control page up is better than any other software that I have come across for this feature. Unlike other solutions for accelerating playback the distortion level is low. It seems a bit like having the Victor Reader Stream reading capacity on your PC. As I understand it, even if you download and install only the demo version of Jaws 11 you will get the full version of FSReader. Of course FSReader will not normally read mp3 audio books as it looks only for daisy content. However I have found an easy way to convert a folder of mp3 files into a Daisy book that FSReader will open and read. The first step is to copy the folder of mp3 files you want to convert into an easy place to find on your PC. I copied a book onto my C drive and renamed the folder daisy. Now download the free Daisy book Generator from http://jaapvanlelieveld.xs4all.nl/daisy.htm Install the Daisy Book Generator and run the program from your programs menu. The program is a very simple command line program. There are no menus or buttons. Simply type in the path of the folder you want to become a Daisy Book and then press enter. In my case this is C:\daisy It seems impossible to copy and paste a long path into the program which is why I suggest you copy the folder you want to convert into an easy to type location. Press enter if you get any warning messages from the program about the filenames you have in your folder. The program will then start converting your folder of mp3 files into a daisy book. The program will prompt you when this is completed and then pressing enter again will close the program. Now you will find that FS Reader will recognise this folder as a daisy book and play the contents. Hi Patricia, Thank you for your response. I'm pretty sure that everybody running XP probably gets this message, but out of curiosity I was just wondering if there was a way to keep this message from showing up in the system tray. Thanks again, take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Stopping email in system tray
I understand, but I don't think it's strictly an xp issue. I thought it was more or less what anti virus program you were running. I know it just stays there very briefly and then it's gone, so wondering why it should matter to you if it's there or not? I guess you could look at it this way, if you didn't have the alert sound on when new emails arrived, then the notification in the sys tray would tell ya you had new mail. - Original Message - From: Mike Barbara mb69ma...@charter.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Thursday, December 03, 2009 10:45 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Stopping email in system tray Hi Patricia, Thank you for your response. Hi Patricia, I do have the alert with sound for new emails turned on. In all actuality, it really doesn't matter if it shows up. I was just curious if there was a wayfor it not to show. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Trouble With New Netbook and JAWS
Thanks David. I do not experience this problem on any particular web site. Since it is only equipped for high-speed Internet access, I will have to wait until I am able to take it with me to another place with Wi-Fi Internet access. Since I am able to surf the Internet without problems, I am hoping this is just a temporary glitch. - Original Message - From: David Griffith d.griff...@btinternet.com To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Thursday, December 03, 2009 9:59 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Trouble With New Netbook and JAWS I have an Acer Aspire with Jaws 11 but am not getting this problem. T. H. [JAWS-Users] another online backup option/was carbonite.com
Hi everyone, Just last night I heard a computer tech on a radio show talk about www.backblaze.com. I have no idea about how this service works with Jaws, but it might be worth checking out. A tag from their site says Backblaze online backup encrypts and uploads all your data no questions asked. No picking files. No digging through folders. http://www.backblaze.com/indexd.html HTH, Norma For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
