Does anyone know a one hit programme that will resolve the issue for me please?
I have tried Superantispyware but the thing keeps coming back.
Not sure if it will just be as easy to carry out a re-build.
It looks like Microsoft Security Escentials was not able to pick up and block

I don't know when you wrote the tutorial, but in earlier versions of WinAmp,
the last files played were saved in an m3u.
I don't have a later version installed, so I can't really comment on
the existence of a m3u in the WinAmp folder in program files.
Also, In Winamp 2.8, the Control + S keystroke doesn't seem to open a save

Do you happen to know when this keystroke came into play?

Hi Brad,

Here is a tutorial I wrote some time ago on how to create, manage and play
Winamp playlists.

This should answer most of your questions, however, this is quite an old
tutorial, and some keystrokes have been discovered that make creating
playlists much easier than the methods outlined in the below tutorial.

For example, if you would like to play all the files within a specific
folder, simply highlight the folder, then press your applications key, or
shift+F10 if you are without such a key, and press P for play in Winamp.
Depending on what else you have that starts with the letter P within that
context menu, you'll either have to press enter on that option, or the
command will activate right away. You'll have to decide which is the case
for your particular situation or computer configuration.

Also, you can do the same with specific songs within the same folder by
going into a particular folder, pressing the end key to go to the bottom of
the file list, and pressing control+up arrow selecting the tracks you wish
to include in the playlist with control+spacebar. Once you've selected all
the tracks you wish to play, press the applications menu or shift+F10 and
press P for play in Winamp and the songs will automatically be placed in a
Winamp playlist which you can then save for later access.

Also, should you wish to add more songs to the above playlist, go into the
second folder, or third or fourth, depending on how many times you wish to
go into and out of folders, follow the same steps as above for selecting
tracks to include, then once all the songs are selected, press the
applications menu or shift+F10 and arrow down to add to Winamp, and the
tracks you selected will be placed at the bottom of the playlist you created
from the previous folder. You can do this for as many songs or tracks you'd
like in however many folders you wish to include.

Once you've added all the songs, just save the playlist like the
instructions below.

There are other shortcut steps I've discovered, but those will come at a
later time when I've updated the tutorial.

In the meantime, hope the below tutorial helps in some way.

***Begin Tutorial***

Believe it or not, it's easier to create a playlist with Winamp, than it
sounds.

First, go to your desktop, or where ever you keep the Winamp shortcut, and
enter on it.

Once the Winamp window opens, control+tab twice to get to the playlist
editor.

If you find that you've used the control+tab keystroke twice, and Jaws
didn't say playlist editor, then that means you have the playlist editor
closed.

You can open it in one of two ways.

You can press the keystroke of alt+E, or you can press alt+F, then arrow
down to playlist editor and enter on it.

I think you'll find the alt+E keystroke is easier. Smile.

In any case, once Jaws reports that the playlist editor is opened,
control+tab up to the playlist editor.

Now, this is going to sound weird, but go with me on this.

Once you land in the playlist editor, press control+A to highlight
everything, then press delete.

Don't worry if Jaws doesn't say anything, what you've essentially done is
delete any tracks that were in there from the last time you used Winamp to
listen to something.

Unfortunately, Winamp likes to leave residual ghost images of files it's
played in the last instance, and so, in order to create a clean playlist,
you have to delete what was previously there.

So, now that you've done that, press the letter L for lists, and this will
open up an open dialog box.

Those of you familiar with downloading from send space, or saving as and the
like, will be familiar with this dialog box.

When this dialog box opens, you'll land on the filename edit box. Do a
shift+tab to go to the file list window just above the filename edit box.

Now, depending on where you last took Winamp, you won't know where you'll be
in the file list, so a good rule of thumb is to press the backspace key
seven or eight times until Jaws stops talking.

When he does, do a say line command with insert+up arrow, and Jaws should
read out, Not Selected My Documents.

This means you're on your desktop, and you can now go to the folder where
the files are that you want to play.

So, if the

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft word question. Turning Off Tab Control

2012-03-05 Thread Mike Barbara
Hi Rich,

Try looking in the following places to see what you have checked. While in
Word, go to tools, options, and on the view page, tab like crazy until you
get to, All, and uncheck it, tab to OK, press the spacebar to save /
close. There will be a lot of other checkboxes in there that you might want
to uncheck as well.

When I tried using Shift+Control+8 it didn't turn off the
announcement of 1 inch etc. What it does do is hide and unhide formatting
marks only, as Flor has said.

To hide formatting in Word do this in the format menu, load Word. Press
Alt+O for Formatting. Arrow up to
Reveal Formatting, and press Enter. Tab to the box which says, Show all
formatting marks, and uncheck that box. Then press Escape, and you will be
out of the menus and back in the document.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread totally so, let us know where you
stand as far as what is, or isn't, working the way you want it in Word.
Take care.

 Rich,

You can toggle paragraph marks with ctrl+SHIFT+8.

However, go through the Word Quick Settings thoroughly - that is,
press
JAWSKey+v - and tab into the Tree View and arrow down it. if you want
a
clarification on an item, press the tab key there and then press
JAWSKey+DownArrow to hear all it has to say.

 - if you have indicate new lines and paragraphs on, you'll want to
turn
that off (Spacebar). Likewise, if you don't want style changes to be
 announced, turn that off too.

[JAWS-Users] IE9 keystroke to show all open tabs

2012-03-05 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

Well I got a big surprise this morning when I tried to download a file in
internet explorer. It didn't act the same as usual. Upon opening the help
menu and choosing About, I found that I am running IE9 on my Windows 7 64
bit system with JAWS 13.0.718. I don't recall doing anything to cause IE9
to be installed, but Windows update says it was installed on 2/28/12. Sort
of looks like it was an automatic update. But once I realized this and with
all the good information that comes from this list, I accomplished the
download with no problem.

But to my question. Often when I press alt-f4 to close internet explorer
I'll get a message asking me if I want to close all tabs when I'm not aware
that I have multiple tabs open. In IE8, there is a keystroke,
control+shift+q,
Which will list all open tabs if multiple tabs are open. But this keystroke
doesn't do anything in IE9. So is there an IE or JAWS keystroke that
provides information on open tabs?

Thanks.

Mike

menu and choosing About, I found that I am running IE9 on my Windows 7 64
bit system with JAWS 13.0.718.

 Thanks.

 Mike

Re: [JAWS-Users] Accessibility of pc suite on windows 7 using jaws 12

2012-03-05 Thread Dujari, Prateek
I've Nokia phones with Symbian 3rd gen. I found the Nokia PC suite to be just
very hard and tedious and inconsistent to use on my XP 32 bit as well as Win7
64bit PC's. So I gave up on the PC suite totally and use a much more simpler,
consistent and reliable method to do all of the below:
1. install TTS software like Talks.
2. install human sounding voices
3. copy my own mp3 files to play or use as ring tones.

The answer to all the above is to directly copy over any of the above files to
the removable memory card (like the RS-MMC card on Nokia 6682 or the other
types of such removable mem cards on other Nokia phones like the N95 etc) using
the mem card reader slot on your laptop or PC. Many of these phone mem cards
can be attached to adaptors so they fit in a regular SD card slot on your PC.
If you don't have the adaptor to make your phone's mem card fit into a SD card
slot on your PC then you can buy these many-in-one USB memory card readers from
Amazon which will take your phone's mem card. Just ensure you buy the USB mem
card reader that has your phone's mem card as one of the types it takes.
Once copy over the TTS and voice files from your PC to the phone's mem card
then use your phone's menu to move them to the internal non-removable flash
drive of your phone and then install then.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Accessibility of pc suite on windows 7 using jaws 12

Hello Listers,

Still using a third generation symbian N82, I was able to connect to the
internet using the phone via USB cable, utilising pc suite, latest
accessible version according to the blindsea.com site, via windows xp,
but no longer under windows 7 64 bit.

Previously I could open pc suite from the system tray and find buttons
for backup, connect to the internet, etc, but when trying this now, the
system tray appears empty with jaws, even routing pc curser to jaws.

This happens on both my notebook and pc, same versions of O S windows 7
and Jaws.

I am authorised to upgrade to jaws 13, but will it help and could
someone please assist with exact steps, preferably possible via jaws 12,
latest update?

I had dsl connection problems last week and wasted hours on trying all I
could think of in vain.

Thanks and regards,

Riana

Which operating system?
If Windows 7, go to control panel, partition and you should find it there.
You may have to use the JAWS cursor or equivalent in your screen reader and
I am not sure on the restrictions on flash drives and FAT32 but back up your

Re: [JAWS-Users] winamp and playing more then one song

2012-03-05 Thread Scorpio Forever
Hi Rick,

I should have been more clear.

When I say residual ghost images of files played in the last instance, I
meant within the playlist editor, not specifically on your computer as an
M3U file.

If you play a track and close Winamp, then simply open up an instance of
Winamp without entering on a particular track on your hard drive, in other
words, by entering on the Winamp icon on your desktop or start menu, if you
press the spacebar, you'll find that it will start playing the same track
you played the last time you used Winamp to play a file.

I just checked, and while they've fixed this particular bug and the track
does not start playing if you press the spacebar, the track list still
appears in the playlist editor, so, as long as you haven't moved that file
from it's original location when you first played it within Winamp, entering
on that track from within the playlist editor will start playing that song.
That also means that if you add any tracks to Winamp, they will be added
below that first title, and, if you're listing to a particular raunchy audio
book just prior to creating a kids party playlist, there's going to be a bit
of embarrassment when you first turn on the playlist. LOL.

Suffice it to say, I didn't mean that it would actually save a file on your
hard drive, though, I guess, in order for Winamp to do what I mentioned
above, I guess it would have to store a file on your hard drive, though I've
never actually investigated whether Winamp does this within the temporary
memory, or permanently on your hard drive, but as I've found this to be the
case, even after re-booting my computer, I would say that it's a good guess
that the file gets saved on your hard drive.

As for the control+S keystroke, it's been in effect since version 4.5 and
onwards, though I can't say for sure that it's been around longer than that.

I have listed below the compendium of Winamp keystrokes for Jaws just in
case there are any discrepancies, with the below keystrokes being taken
directly from the Jaws application help file.

Unfortunately, Jaws help does not offer keystrokes for the Winamp Library or
the Winamp Video windows, but if and when I find such beasts, I'll be sure
to update and post the new information.

In the meantime, here are the keystrokes currently available for each of the
Winamp windows, those being the Winamp Main Window, The Winamp Equalizer
Window, and the Winamp Playlist Editor.

***Begin Winamp Keystrokes***

same as control+f4, but leave the other tabs open. But when I use alt=f4,

Does this mean that with this particular application, you can download a
book that is not already in an audio format and have your computer read
it to you? I hope this did not sound stupid. Jerry

Re: [JAWS-Users] Assigning File Types With Windows7

2012-03-05 Thread Joni Colver
In Windows 7 I typed file extension into the search box. I arrowed down to
make a file type always open in a specific program. I entered on that. I
chose dot doc files. Word 2010 was the default. I chose WordPad. When I
opened a doc file there was gibberish. I then went back and chose Jarte.
Now when I enter on a doc file it opens and is readable in Jarte.

Thanks for asking the question Mike because now it is easier to open my
multitude of doc files! Rather than opening Jarte and using the open dialog
I can just enter on a doc file and it opens in Jarte.

 Which operating system?
If Windows 7, go to control panel, partition and you should find it there.
You may have to use the JAWS cursor or equivalent in your screen reader

I am not sure on the restrictions on flash drives and FAT32 but back up

[JAWS-Users] Using JART to create and save documents in MS Word format

Hello.

I am playing with JART and to my surprise I find that I can open, edit and view
any MS word 2010, 2007 or 2003 document in it. Further I find I can save any of
these MS Word files opened in JART after editing them in the Word 2003 .doc
format. this seems incredible. Is this really true and does this give us
freedom from MS Word and more importantly be able to share .doc files with
others who have Office loaded on their computers while I don't?

99% of the time I do want to close all tabs so answer yes. I was just
looking for a way in IE9 to see what tabs were open without having to tab
through each one of them so I could see if there was one I wanted to leave

But once I realized this and with all the good information that comes
from this list, I accomplished the download with no problem.

But to my question. Often when I press alt-f4 to close internet
explorer I'll get a message asking me if I want to close all tabs when
I'm not aware that I have multiple tabs open. In IE8, there is a
 keystroke,
 control+shift+q,
Which will list all open tabs if multiple tabs are open. But this
keystroke doesn't do anything in IE9. So is there an IE or JAWS
keystroke that provides information on open tabs?

 Thanks.

I checked and double checked and found JART can open, edit and save as word
.doc. So that is good news.

Does anyone know of a similar open source software that can open MS Excel and
may be just maybe also save as .ells? It of course needs to be accessible to
jaws. some popular ones like Open office and King soft have some key aspects
inaccessible to JAWS which essentially excludes them as a solution. there are
other excel viewers but they are paid.

Anyone know of a free Excel compatible spreadsheet viewer/editor/saver?

However, it was reported several weeks back that if you turned off the

You can find that by navigating to windows explorer and folder options and
once you are in the treview, press s five times and you should arrive to the

2012-03-05 Thread CM54
Have you maybe had a pare of eyes put the computer through its paces to see
if it's not something isolated to just screen reading issues?
If it's been less than a year since you got it, then it may be worth it to
check whatever warrantee that came with either the machine itself or perhaps
with whatever credit card or method of payment you used to buy it. That or
pay for some sort of tech support to take a look at it. It would most likely
be cheaper than junking the entire computer. Paying $65 or 70 for a techy to
try to figure it out or at least give you a good diagnosis as to what could
be wrong with it instead of getting an entire new system.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Explore no responding

This was exactly my issue when I got my new Windows 7 machine. The below is
exactly what i did and Explorer has yet to crash in the 20 or so days since
I made those adjustments.

Hi,
Once you are in windows explorer, shift tab twice until you hear Command
modual tool bar and use your right arrow key until you get to the option you
are looking for.
However, it was reported several weeks back that if you turned off the
option show preview handlers in preview pain, the issue should be resolved.
You can find that by navigating to windows explorer and folder options and
once you are in the treview, press s five times and you should arrive to the
option.

HI

windows seven 64 bit and jaws 13

I have the problem of windows explorer not responding.

Please can somebody remind me how to get to the window pane checkbox within
options or view. I cant find it anywhere at the moment.

I know unchecking this solved my problem several months ago and I am
wondering if this checkbox has been checked again, I am sure I have not
checked it but would love to be able to check and see.

Have you maybe had a pare of eyes put the computer through its paces to
see
if it's not something isolated to just screen reading issues?
If it's been less than a year since you got it, then it may be worth it
to
check whatever warrantee that came with either the machine itself or
perhaps
with whatever credit card or method of payment you used to buy it. That
or
pay for some sort of tech support to take a look at it. It would most
likely
be cheaper than junking the entire computer. Paying $65 or 70 for a techy
to
try to figure it out or at least give you a good diagnosis as to what
could
be wrong with it instead of getting an entire new system.

I have also noticed this edit box issue. It is not limited to google
though. Every now and then, sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't, I
start typing into an edit box, and the characters just don't appear. I am
typing from the qwerty keyboard. Often, exiting IE and starting again
works. Occasionally, I just hit enter on the submit button, then try
again, and that often does work. I haven't been able to consistently
reproduce this behavior. It happens on a Windows XP box running JFW 12 and
IE 8 and on a Windows 7 box running JFW 13 and IE9.

Hi Rich,

Try looking in the following places to see what you have checked. While
in

Word, go to tools, options, and on the view page, tab like crazy until you
get to, All, and uncheck it, tab to OK, press the spacebar to save /
close. There will be a lot of other checkboxes in there that you might
want

to uncheck as well.

Then press Escape, and you will
be

out of the menus and back in the document.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread totally so, let us know where
you

stand as far as what is, or isn't, working the way you want it in Word.
Take care.

 Still have some issues.
When I hit, insert up arrow, the first time, I hear normal and 1 inch.
The second time I hit the same key combination, I don't hear it.
I do not hear it when I hit, insert down arrow.
It seems as though JAWS is reading the borders left, top and bottom. But
only the first time I use the keys.
Oh, I made sure everything was unchecked as you suggested.

My sighted wife said she saw a backwards p, and could not find the option
to
 change it.
 So, she clicked on hide.

 Thanks for any help.

Here is something strange to me.
When I initially hit read line, i.e. insert up arrow, I hear normal

Rich,

You can toggle paragraph marks with ctrl+SHIFT+8.

However, go through the Word Quick Settings thoroughly - that is,
press
JAWSKey+v - and tab into the Tree View and arrow down it. if you
want

a
clarification on an item, press the tab key there and then press
JAWSKey+DownArrow to hear all it has to say.

- if you have indicate new lines and paragraphs on, you'll want to
turn
that off (Spacebar). Likewise, if you don't want style changes to be
announced, turn that off too.

Hi Flor;

If I hit the read all command JAWS works fine.
When I read one line at a time is when I get the extra verbiage,

Any other thoughts?

Alternatively, in Microsoft word: Press Insert+6; then type,
Scheme

;
the first of the results is highlighted and is the one we're

  either

I've Nokia phones with Symbian 3rd gen. I found the Nokia PC suite to
be just very hard and tedious and inconsistent to use on my XP 32 bit as
well as Win7 64bit PC's. So I gave up on the PC suite totally and use a
much more simpler, consistent and reliable method to do all of the
below:
1. install TTS software like Talks.
2. install human sounding voices
3. copy my own mp3 files to play or use as ring tones.

The answer to all the above is to directly copy over any of the above
files to the removable memory card (like the RS-MMC card on Nokia 6682
or the other types of such removable mem cards on other Nokia phones
like the N95 etc) using the mem card reader slot on your laptop or PC.
Many of these phone mem cards can be attached to adaptors so they fit in
a regular SD card slot on your PC. If you don't have the adaptor to make
your phone's mem card fit into a SD card slot on your PC then you can
buy these many-in-one USB memory card readers from Amazon which will
take your phone's mem card. Just ensure you buy the USB mem card reader
that has your phone's mem card as one of the types it takes.
Once copy over the TTS and voice files from your PC to the phone's mem
card then use your phone's menu to move them to the internal
non-removable flash drive of your phone and then install then.

Howdy Freijac,

You can assign WordPad to read .DOC files if you have already done
this,
try selecting all the text from the Word / WordPad file paste into a
NotePad / text file, saving it, naming it appropriately. This will
work
for you, until you can get a conversion program. Hope this helps. Take

Re: [JAWS-Users] Using JART to create and save documents in MS Word format

It will provide a way to share and be somewhat free from Word. Keep in
mind that Jart probably handles a small subset of the features and media
types / content supported by word. My quick guess at such features
would be footnotes, endnotes, multiple columns, pictures, and embedded
spreadsheets, and possibly tables. As long as you do not need to have
access to these features , they probably will not be modified as you
modify the surrounding text. Obviously, you will not be able to add
such content.

not most of the features the average word processor user needs and
