[JAWS-Users] Windows 8 / JAWS 14 Installation Problem

2012-10-31 Thread Tim Bennett

Hey Everyone,

I have a new ultrabook running Windows 8. I am connecting to the
internet with Verizon using a USB modem. I am browsing using Internet
Explorer 10 and Firefox 16. I am getting my email using Thunderbird. I
am running NVDA which can check for and install updates without any problem.

I downloaded JAWS 14 64 bit using another machine and installed it on my
Windows 8 machine. It said there was a problem with the internet
connection and some components were not installed. I have removed and
reinstalled JAWS several times with the same error. The internet
connection is fine. When I try to update authorization it says there is
a problem with the internet connection. If I do a check for updates on
the help menu it says there is a problem with the internet connection.

The internet connection is working with no problems. Only JAWS can't
find it. I don't think it's trying to use the connection because it
comes back instantly and says there is a problem with the connection.

I have successfully installed JAWS 14 on a Windows 7 laptop using the
USB modem and the Verizon software. (VZAccess Manager.)

Not sure what to check or why JAWS doesn't recognize the connection.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

[JAWS-Users] windows logon

2012-10-31 Thread john
Hi list. I had to have my hard disk reformatted yesterday. Now when I boot up,
instead of hearing the windows logon sound, and landing on the desktop with
Jaws running, I seem to be landing on the windows logon screen without jaws
running. I tried pressing enter but seem to land in some kind of dialog box
since I hear a bing sound. I was told I had to authenticate windows online to
stop this. Can anyone help me to bypass the logon screen to get to the desktop
with Jaws and what to do to keep this from happening again? I am using Jaws 10
and vista. Appreciate any help.

2012-10-31 Thread HHamit Campos
Just incase JAWS is being picky, try doing it with it plugged in to a
router. Along with that, download and run the installer on the ultra book it
self. Something was up with the installer when I downloaded. It kept getting
messed up so in the end that's what I did. I didn't plug in the laptop
though since the internet was working.

Hi Tim,
I did not have the same experience as you, but once JAWS was installed,
the authorization box popped up so I went through the steps to authorize
it, restarted JAWS as it said and then the authorization box came up
again after telling me the authorization was successful. I called FS as
didn't have any more authorizations left. For some reason I'm only
getting 1 at a time which makes it difficult if something comes up on
the weekend and I have none. Good thing have NVDA as a backup I guess.
LOL Anyway, FS had never heard of this and she said she would bring it
to the attention of those that needed to know as it could be a bug with
JAWS 14. Has this happened to any of you? Also, MS Word told me
yesterday I had to register it again so hope that doesn't stick. Have
today left and my time will be up, it said.

Hi Alex,
So far aside from the little quirks I just wrote about, I really like
Windows 8 and notice no major differences as long as you don't mind the
file explorer thing popping up when you want to go anywhere and not
having the quicker ways to get there. That's why i put shortcuts to my

I'm using Win8 now and know what you mean
about it's similarity to 7. I just have one question and maybe I'm
missing something, so please correct me where needed? I've heard this
stuff about not having a start menu. What do you mean by that because
when I press my Windows key I get a start up list just like with the 7.
Oh, it's not exactly the same, but it mostly is and although it doesn't
say edit search or whatever it did in 7, if I just start typing what I
want as soon as I press the Windows key, it turns search on. I'm going
to try Outlook as I really don't like TB much because of issues. Really
wanted to use Windows Mail, but not since it won't echo anything when am
typing in a new message with JAWS or NVDA, I won't be using it and hope
that gets corrected with an update.

Actually, windows 8 isn't really that difficult to use.
For many of the settings, you can setup the windows 8 machine, just like

The big difference is, there's no start menu.

[JAWS-Users] Attachments in Outlook 2010 Rich Text

2012-10-31 Thread Marks, Jim
With Jaws 14 in Outlook 2010 Rich Text messages, how does one access an
attachment? The Jaws 13 keystroke of Jaws+F5 does not work, and when I try to
save attachments, Jaws does not see the attachment. Put another way, what Jaws
14 keystroke is used to list attachments in an Outlook 2010 message in a rich
text format? Messages formatted in html or plain text work well, but I often
get RTF formatted messages with attachments. Thanks much in advance for your
guidance!

Hi

The first thing I would look at is the window for those folders maximized?
If not try maximizing it. Next when you're on a message in the message list
of the folders that don't read the subject. try routing the JAWS cursor to
the PC cursor and see if you can read the subject. I've seen some instances
where a message will take 2 lines in the message list. If the subject isn't
there, go to the View tab of the ribbon, select current view and then select
view settings. Find the columns button and press enter. Tab until you get
to the list box Show these columns in this order. Arrow up and down to look
for subject. If it's not there, you can add it from the available columns
list box.

I am looking at new computers but am concerned that I will lose my ability
to use Libronics.

I assume Libronics 4 is till unuseable with Windows 7 and 8.

Thanks

[JAWS-Users] JAWS And T.V. Tuners

2012-10-31 Thread Steven Hicks
Hi friends,

has anyone managed to find a free software application for accessing digital
usb or PCI t.v. tuners that works well with JAWS please?

There seems to be a real gap in products available here.

I have a Microsoft Windows Vista Business laptop that unfortunately, doesn't
come with Microsoft Windows Media Centre so I am a bit stuck and as far as I
can tell, the tuner software is not accessible at all.

Take care all,

Steve.

How about a paid version that one would need to pay to use?

I guess that would be any software that comes with the toner technically. I
don't know which would be accessible since WMC is what I want to use and
that's what I've been looking at.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Libronics Bible software and Windows 7 or 8

2012-10-31 Thread Tom Vos
This is part of the reason I started Optasia Ministry, to provide the blind
community with Bibles and Bible study tools that are readily accessible for
those using screen reading software.
While with our resources, you have to specifically open a commentary on the
book of the Bible you want to use, it is very user friendly.
Our Bibles run in your web browser with links to books, chapters and verses.
We have added tools for accessing the Greek NT and Hebrew OT that allow
advanced students of the Bible to do thorough research.
Many users of this list are already using our resources, and others are
welcome to check out what we offer at
www.optasiaministry.org
We have a wide variety of reading in theology, devotional, leadership,
church history, apologetics and other areas.
We provide our resources free to those who are blind, and rely on donations
to support this work.
Blessings,
Tom Vos, director

2012-10-31 Thread Merv Keck
Hopefully Logos 4 or eventually Logos 5 will work better with Jaws and Magic
because I need the advanced tools that only Logos can offer. Currently I get
enough accessibility with Jaws Magic to be able to work with the 2,048
resources I currently have. However, there is a need for a bit more
accessibility through no fault of either Jaws or Magic. I need the highly
advanced tools that only Logos offers www.logos.com so currently will stick
with the accessibility that I have.
