[JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader Program. So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we all know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently. Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It creates a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than first. So try it yourself first what ever it might happen to be. If you get stuck then let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma. Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with JAWS is perfectly fine. The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of Freedom Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then I suggest you take it up with Freedom Scientific directly. Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Also any news letters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval. Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done for your protection. The message list might state that there is an attachment but in fact Mailman does remove them. When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply delete messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are over 550 subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here. Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines, then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not receive an answer for a number of reasons. Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list. There you will find the group web address along with some other relevant information pertaining to contacting the management team ETC. Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you may receive an email from the Mailman program asking you to reactivate your account. Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and follow the directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after receiving a number of such messages then we will figure that you no longer wish to be a member of the list and remove your email address. The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with flirting or other such inappropriate activities. this is not a high tech swap shop or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is off topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and members should only post in the following manner: Using the TO: field with only one list address. The SUBJECT: field should be short and to the point without including any member names. The reason for this is that in cases where people setup their message rules to go by the To: field often times such rules get fowled up and in effect do not work properly. Also cross posting might allow you to reach many lists at the same time but the fact is such a post might not be on topic for each and every list. This practice does nothing but clutter up such lists with unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators. Lastly please no jokes, virus warnings, recipes, safety tips, or pleas to help dying kids, should ever be forwarded to the list. Forwarded messages and attachments are not permitted. If you have an article or message of interest which relates to the nature of this list send it to the list owner and if it is appropriate, it will be posted to the list.

I am connecting to the internet with Verizon using a USB modem. I am browsing using Internet Explorer 10 and Firefox 16. I am getting my email using Thunderbird. I am running NVDA which can check for and install updates without any problem. I downloaded JAWS 14 64 bit using another machine and installed it on my Windows 8 machine. It said there was a problem with the internet connection and some components were not installed. I have removed and reinstalled JAWS several times with the same error. The internet connection is fine. When I try to update authorization it says there is a problem with the internet connection. If I do a check for updates on the help menu it says there is a problem with the internet connection. The internet connection is working with no problems. Only JAWS can't find it. I don't think it's trying to use the connection because it comes back instantly and says there is a problem with the connection. I have successfully installed JAWS 14 on a Windows 7 laptop using the USB modem and the Verizon software. (VZAccess Manager.) Not sure what to check or why JAWS doesn't recognize the connection. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS And T.V. Tuners
Did you mention whether you already had USB TV tuner hardware or you were looking for one that had accessible software? I am interested in this topic, but have never tried any hardware. I keep coming across the name auppauge (auppauge.com). Perhaps, because it is fairly generic and works with most 3rd party, free software, like xbmc, tversity, and other PVR software for Windows and Ubuntu. A good source for comparing hardware and PVR software can be found at the TitanTV.com site. This TV listings page is the one I prefer for accessibility and ease of use. It is designed to work with many PVR software to schedule recordings directly from their listings grid. Look at their recommendations for compatible hardware and software. I warn you however, accessibility has not been a hot topic on these sites! *Don Marang* Vinux Package Development Coordinator - vinuxproject.org http://www.vinuxproject.org/ On 11/1/2012 4:39 AM, Hicks Steven (CORNWALL IT SERVICES) wrote: Anything that works would be worth considering. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Reinhard Stebner Sent: 31 October 2012 23:10 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS And T.V. Attachments in RTF messages behave differently from those in HTML or Plain Text. Neither suggestion below works for RTF attachments in Outlook, but they work fine in HTML and Plain Text formats. Re: [JAWS-Users] Attachments in Outlook 2010 Rich Text
Hi, Are these the ones that are not actually an attachment but rather the ones that are embedded in the email? If they are the ones embedded in the email I locate them with the PcCursor and press the application key for a list of options one of which is to save. This works, but what a pain! Surely there is a better way to open Outlook 2010 attachments in a RTF message. Here are the steps: Copy and paste the open RTF message into MS Word Press Jaws+F5 to list fields imbedded in the document. Press Enter, then the Applications Key. Choose the File Objects submenu. Re: [JAWS-Users] Attachments in Outlook 2010 Rich Text
Yes, Outlook 2010 attachments in an RTF message are imbedded in the e-mail. I think RTF messages always imbed attachments in the body of an e-mail in Outlook. Outlook messages in HTML or Plain Text formats display the attachments in the message header. I sometimes had luck with the method described below for Jaws 13, but not for Jaws 14. It was hit and miss for me in Jaws 13 and earlier versions because the link is difficult or impossible to locate in some messages. With Jaws 14, I cannot see the imbedded link at all in an RTF message. -- Jim Marks jimma...@mt.gov -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Bissett, Tom Sent: Thursday, November 01, 2012 11:46 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Attachments in Outlook 2010 Rich Text Hi, Are these the ones that are not actually an attachment but rather the ones that are embedded in the email?
