[JAWS-Users] Vista Logon Screen Query

2013-05-21 Thread Hicks Steven (CORNWALL IT SERVICES)
Dear all,

A bit of a long shot but someone may be able to help?
I need to install JAWS on a machine but the screen is broken.
The logon screen has around four different usernames and the one that I
particularly need to select is called Terry2.
Does anyone know where the focus actually defaults to on the Vista logon screen
and if I can use the letter tt to highlight the Terry username for example or
do I need to tab and arrow around?

Many thanks in anticipation for any help.

P.s. Windows and U won't seem to run up the narrator at that point for some
reason but the machine will log on.

[JAWS-Users] Vista Logon Screen Query

2013-05-21 Thread Csaba Godo

Hi Steve,

On the Vista's logon screen are users listed in a listview in big icon
view. So if you are on the first user of the mentioned 4, than with the
arrrow keys can you navigate between users. You can press T, too, if you
are on the first user then the focus will move to the first user whos
name begins with letter T.

[JAWS-Users] Upgrading to IE10

2013-05-21 Thread Greg Washington
I have noticed that several members on the list have reported that they
upgraded to IE10 through their regular windows security updates. I have my
computer set to receive monthly security updates automatically from
Microsoft but I have not been offered the upgrade to IE10. I am using
Windows 7 64 bit with Jaws 13 latest edition. Do I need to have a special
setting in my windows update to get the IE10 update option? I have checked
my optional windows security updates and IE10 upgrade is not one of them.

If I cannot get the update through the MS security updates is there a Jaws
friendly site I can go to to get the update? I am currently using IE9.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg Washington

This is interesting since IE 10 just arrived in the normal method using
regular Windows updates. Honestly since I am not an IE expert so far as all
of the RSS feeds ETC to me there is no difference.

It should come across normally but if it does not go to your search box and
type Windows update and very likely the option you want will show up HTH.

2013-05-21 Thread Mike B.
Hi RJ,

Try the following:

When you press enter on a download link;

You will hear;

Notification requires response,

Here you would press alt+n,

Now if you use your tab key, you would see;

Run button,

Save button,

Cancel button.

So, the save button will download the file into the default folder.

However, if you wish to change the default folder,

You can press,

Ctrl + J, instead of the save button

Now using tab key move to options link and press enter.

Here you will find a browse button,

If you either shift+tab, or tab your way, you will come to a tree-view,

Now you can arrow and choose

Hopefully this will get you started,

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] Quad Voices on Jaws: Explain in note the issue

2013-05-21 Thread Stormin
I work at AAA Northern New England AAA call center. I have a Jaws specialist
of the Portland Area and she, Bonita, is script writing too.

So:

A: the new IRAS Program (for Emergency road Service calls) has Jaws 14 and
its latest release. Well by tomorrow as that is when going back to the call
center.

B: The second program I presently use is DLS2,000, in taking calls, this has
Jaws 13 and its latest. Along with its own scripts for this program.

Now here is what happen, taking a call the first two Jaws was speaking
everything twice pressing keys or reading. Third call and wacko four or 6
voices of Jaws came up.. So obviously I could not work.

Any ideas to help out Bonita with what is happening? Why the dual and Quad 4
or 6 voices Chatting?

Oh yes, Jaws 13 is made sure with the use of the second program mention.

has the Windows7 Professional IE any differences? Do you need to upgrade
to IE10? If not, then why do it - when your

system doesn't indicate it. (Perhaps the error is leading to something
in Windows7 SP1 that didn't turn out for you quite as it should.) Did
you download the 32-bit IE10 or the 64-bit IE10? The latter is what
you require, of course.

has the Windows7 Professional IE any differences? Do you need to upgrade
to IE10? If not, then why do it - when your
system doesn't indicate it. (Perhaps the error is leading to something in
Windows7 SP1 that didn't turn out for you quite as it should.) Did you
download the 32-bit IE10 or the 64-bit IE10? The latter is what you require,
of course.

I downloaded the file to install IE10 on my windows 7 64 Bit computer.
However I get an error message saying IE10 cannot be installed because
 I
don't have Windows 7 service pack 1. As far as I know I do have
 windows 7
SP1 and my system diagnostics confirm that is what is running on my
computer. I am using Jaws 13 latest edition. I tried installing it
 with
Jaws 14 latest running and it still would not install, giving me the
 same
error message. Does anyone know a windows 7 diagnosis and repair
 program
that is compatible with Jaws that I can use to see if anything is
 wrong with
 my windows 7 installation?
 Thanks,
 Greg Washington

Re: [JAWS-Users] trouble eliminating spoken punctuation in jaws 13

2013-05-21 Thread Mike B.
Hi Shari,

Bob, is correct. Below is an explanation:

This is a note on the difference between changing punctuation settings in
Jaws options, Insert + V, customize punctuation in the default settings
center / configuration manager. They work backwards from one another.

When setting punctuation in Jaws options / quick settings, this controls the
amount of
punctuation JAWS will speak / recognize. The default setting is most. To
hear less
punctuation spoken you would select some or none.

When making changes in the customize punctuation list, this basically tells
Jaws how much of a selected punctuation mark to ignore. If you do not want
Jaws to speak/recognize a particular punctuation mark you want to choose the
all selection. You will have 4 radio buttons to arrow up or down
through. They are none, some, most, all. In these selections they work
backwards than what you would think. For example; If you choose none
for the dollar sign, Jaws will speak / recognize every dollar sign in
whatever you are reading. On the other hand, if you choose the all
radio button, Jaws will not speak / recognize any dollar signs.

Hope this helps some of you understand the differences between the 2
punctuation setting options.

Take care.
Mike

 Hi All,

 I just installed jaws 13, and I can't figure out why I can't limit
jaws speaking punctuation. I went to the settings center and in
customize punctuation, I set everything to none and saved the
changes. Still Jaws is reading every comma, bracket, dash, etc. and
driving me nuts with all the extra chatter. I have gone back into the
settings center, and all the types of punctuation are still set at
none. All the other changes I made in the settings center are working
fine. Any idea what i'm doing wrong?

 Thank you,

You have to make sure you make that setting to the jaws default. If
done in any other program window it will only make changes for that program.

Hi Leonard,
Typically what you find on the desktop are shortcuts, and while they are
usually small in size, too many of them can cause little irritations.
Try this:
Create a couple of folders and group the shortcuts in those folders.
Once you have the shortcuts in a folder, they will appear in a list view,
instead of columns, making navigating them much simpler.

Hi Annette,

Check the language of the sent document. You can do it in the Document
Properties window as far as I remember. Because Word uses HTML-like
format to save the document content it could be the problem, that
somewhere is set the language to an other one than English.
