Re: [JAWS-Users] Introduction and a very annoying JAWS Error

2013-10-13 Thread Bob
If the talking installer isn’t talking then this points to some more
fundamental issue with the laptop.
Have you checked to see if Narrator talks?
I have seen issues before where certain sound drivers disturb the speech in
both narrator and eloquence.
Go to device manager and uninstall your sound card, reboot your machine and
then try uninstalling and installing jaws again.

My friend had given me this HP G-72 laptop and it must be the way HP installed
Windows 7 because I can't even find C:\documents and settings not even the all
users documents and settings and I now see why several don't choose HP but go
with either Dell or something else, I also heard that HP doesn't come to you to
service where Dell does, and I don't like how HP partitioned Windows 7 at
all...which is why I can't wait until rehab buys me a Dell laptop so I can put
JAWS on there and not have this problem because it will be a fresh install of
Windows 7 on a 64-bit machine. If I had a Windows 7 disk to do the fresh
install, I'd do it myself with sighted assistance, unless this new talking
installation of Windows installation I just heard about from Top Tech Tidbits
would help, but in that case I'd still have to have the Windows 7 Home Premium
64-bit installer disks and that might as well be expensive...so, JAWS has come
to a stalemate with me, and I don't think the FS team will be able to help me,
but I guess it will be worth the call on Monday...and if nothing changes then,
I'm just going to have to use NVDA until I get my computer Rehab will purchase
for me.
Well, I'm going to try to get some sleep. Seems like I keep spinnin'
right round with this issue, the circle of life as it may be.

Re: [JAWS-Users] no add or remove programs

2013-10-13 Thread Pablo Morales

Hmm, well.
Let me think.
What version of windows do you have. You don't know it.
Ok, a easy way is if you can get a description of your windows. For example,
when you press the windo key, you heard something like

Start menu, to navigate up or down arrow?
then you have windows xp.
but if you heard something like
Start menu, search box edit. . type text in this edit box or up or down
arrow...

then you have windows 7.
Now, if you have windows xp, you will have on the start menu, the control
panel, or you will have something called settings, and inside will be
control panel.
Then when you have control panel open, you should press tab, until you
heard something like clasic view. Press enter here, and you will get the
icon of add and remove programs. The clasic view shows the most part of the
settings available in windows xp.
If you have windows 7, is not very different, when is open control panel,
you should press tab until you heard clasic view.

[JAWS-Users] Editing Word DOC When Using JAWS

2013-10-13 Thread Annette Carr
Hello All,

I am looking for recommendations for how a JAWS 12 or 14 user can provide
feedback and recommended edits to a MS-Word 2010 document. Everyone on the
team provides their input to the document through track changes or by
making pen marks on the hardcopy. The business need of the task flow will
determine the order in which each team member receives the document for
their input. The second person gets to see the first person's feedback, and
the third person gets to see the feedback from both the first and second
person. This is to eliminate duplication, making it easier for the final
person to make decisions about what will be changed.

It is clear to everyone that the hardcopy method needs to be eliminated and
everyone needs to provide their feedback electronically, or a human reader
needs to be provided as an accommodation.

If electronic is the path taken, here are my questions.

1.Is there a viable way for a JAWS user to gain valuable information
from track changes. I have not figured out how, so any feedback,
suggestions, and/or recommended resources to learn how to do this will be
appreciated.

2. Is there any improvements in the use of MS-Words Comment feature
with JAWS 14? For me it appears that the access to the Comments feature in
MS-Word 2010 by JAWS 12 has been broken. I used to use it in Office 2003.
I would highlight the character, word, phrase, etc. and insert a comment
containing my suggested changes, question, recommendations, etc. Is it
possible to use the comments feature in MS-Word 2010 and some version of
JAWS?

3. If anyone has a suggestion for a different way of accomplishing
this task, your feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Annette

[JAWS-Users] Tablets and JAWS

2013-10-13 Thread Arianna
I was looking at my granddaughter's Samsung Galaxy tablet yesterday which
had a bluetooth keyboard in it's case and it got me wondering if any of the
tablets sold today would work with JAWS 14. Hers is an Android system and I
don't know if that comes with screen reading software or not.

does anyone have experience with any of the tablets available and if so,
what can you tell me or advise?

Thanks for any help.

2013-10-13 Thread Chela Robles
Hello All, I think I'm finally getting somewhere, but you can kindly
input whether or not I'm on the right track of thinking seeing as is I'm
still waking up and have already gotten ready for church, so here is
what I was able to do and here is what I'm thinking.
I went into my user appdata folder and went to where it says roaming
then I found Freedom Scientific. Should I delete this folder since I'm
going to do a fresh install of JAWS since I already uninstalled JAWS and
the Freedom Scientific folders in both C:\Program Files and C:\Program
Files (x86) folders now it is seen in the app data roaming folder under
my username so was just wondering if I should delete it?

My friend had given me this HP G-72 laptop and it must be the way HP
installed Windows 7 because I can't even find C:\documents and settings
not even the all users documents and settings and I now see why several
don't choose HP but go with either Dell or something else, I also heard
that HP doesn't come to you to service where Dell does, and I don't like
how HP partitioned Windows 7 at all...which is why I can't wait until
rehab buys me a Dell laptop so I can put JAWS on there and not have this
problem because it will be a fresh install of Windows 7 on a 64-bit
machine. If I had a Windows 7 disk to do the fresh install, I'd do it
myself with sighted assistance, unless this new talking installation of
Windows installation I just heard about from Top Tech Tidbits would
help, but in that case I'd still have to have the Windows 7 Home Premium
64-bit installer disks and that might as well be expensive...so, JAWS
has come to a stalemate with me, and I don't think the FS team will be
able to help me, but I guess it will be worth the call on Monday...and
if nothing changes then, I'm just going to have to use NVDA until I get
my computer Rehab will purchase for me.
Well, I'm going to try to get some sleep. Seems like I keep spinnin'
right round with this issue, the circle of life as it may be.

(x86) and then I inputted the path C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application Data\Freedom Scientific in the run dialog box using
windows r and got the folowing error saying it couldn't find
C:\documents and that I should make sure I typed it correctly which I
did and try again with an OK button. There aren't any settings for
Freedom Scientific JAWS and anything related to Freedom Scientific
products for Linda the main user and not even for me, Chela.
Weird just keeps getting more strange and I feel like I'm dumb stumped.
Never have I had this problem before when I had version 10 on my xp
machine that died and lived its life to its potential and it was a
32-bit system.
Hmmm!

My friend had given me this HP G-72 laptop and it must be the way HP
installed Windows 7 because I can't even find C:\documents and settings
not even the all users documents and settings and I now see why several
don't choose HP but go with either Dell or something else, I also heard
that HP doesn't come to you to service where Dell does, and I don't like
how HP partitioned Windows 7 at all...which is why I can't wait until
rehab buys me a Dell laptop so I can put JAWS on there and not have this

machine. If I had a Windows 7 disk to do the fresh install, I'd do it
myself with sighted assistance, unless this new talking installation of
Windows installation I just heard about from Top Tech Tidbits would help,
but in that case I'd still have to have the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
installer disks and that might as well be expensive...so, JAWS has come to
a stalemate with me, and I don't think the FS team will be able to help
me, but I guess it will be worth the call on Monday...and if nothing
changes then, I'm just going to have to use NVDA until I get my computer
Rehab will purchase for me.
Well, I'm going to try to get some sleep. Seems like I keep spinnin' right

if you have more than jaws installed, just delete the folder called jaws
that is inside freedom. But, is very important that you 1. uninstalled
jaws. 2. Delete the freedom folder in program files. 3. delete the jaws or
freedom folder in the folder that you are saying. After this steps, do not
restart your computer. Just install jaws 14 again. Please do not restart

In windows 7 it should be a link, the question of whether the programs
show up or not in the list to uninstall, which seems to be not the case
with me, actually, the programs don't show up as a list like it did when
I used to have WinXP, but they don't show up in add/remove programs nor
the uninstall a program feature under programs and features.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Editing Word DOC When Using JAWS

Thanks,

Annette

Can't go back to the previous page; and if I use Control-W to close that one

experienced, or is something amiss with JFW. I'm debating rolling back to
IE9- no back-link problems that I can remember there. Thoughts / advice will

I don't think so... IE10 seems to warn me of any pop-up windows. In fact,
I've been unable to get Alt-n to bring up the responses and end up going to

back-link commands will go back one page- but am unable to detect a pattern

Another issue can be if there were a few pop-ups along the way when the page
loaded. If so, you might have to hit the back command a couple times for it
to go back to the previous page.

Cher, I have found that using the jaws version 15 beta has solved this

when I execute a link on a web page. The prior version of jaws many
times would execute a different link than the one I was on and trying

My friend had given me this HP G-72 laptop and it must be the way HP
installed Windows 7 because I can't even find C:\documents and settings not
even the all users documents and settings and I now see why several don't
choose HP but go with either Dell or something else, I also heard that HP
doesn't come to you to service where Dell does, and I don't like how HP
partitioned Windows 7 at all...which is why I can't wait until rehab buys me
a Dell laptop so I can put JAWS on there and not have this problem because it
will be a fresh install of Windows 7 on a 64-bit machine. If I had a Windows
7 disk to do the fresh install, I'd do it myself with sighted assistance,
unless this new talking installation of Windows installation I just heard
about from Top Tech Tidbits would help, but in that case I'd still have to
have the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installer disks and that might as well
be expensive...so, JAWS has come to a stalemate with me, and I don't think
the FS team will be able to help me, but I guess it will be worth the call on
Monday...and if nothing changes then, I'm just going to have to use NVDA
until I get my computer Rehab will purchase for me.
Well, I'm going to try to get some sleep. Seems like I keep spinnin'

Re: [JAWS-Users] Editing Word DOC When Using JAWS

2013-10-13 Thread Annette Carr
Hi George,

Yes, we are using a network and I do not have a question about how to get
the document from person to person. Rather, I want to know how, if possible
to use JAWS with the Track Changes or Comments feature in MS-Word 2010.

When Track Changes are on, JAWS reads everything that it comes across and it
ends up making little to know sense. When using the Comments feature you
can barely create a comment, and forget about reviewing what you just typed
into a comment, or reading a previously created comment.

I am hoping that my negative experiences just described above are the result
of my limited knowledge and that there is a way to utilize either one or
both of these MS-Word features when using JAWS.

Ok, now whatever was commented by each worker cannot be alter. Then, the

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Editing Word DOC When Using JAWS

Thanks,

Annette

talking especially when I've waited over 10 minutes before I started to

still get that error when the computer reboots after the fresh install

Hello All, I think I'm finally getting somewhere, but you can kindly
input whether or not I'm on the right track of thinking seeing as is
I'm still waking up and have already gotten ready for church, so here
is what I was able to do and here is what I'm thinking.
I went into my user appdata folder and went to where it says roaming
then I found Freedom Scientific. Should I delete this folder since
I'm going to do a fresh install of JAWS since I already uninstalled
JAWS and the Freedom Scientific folders in both C:\Program Files and
C:\Program Files (x86) folders now it is seen in the app data roaming
folder under my username so was just wondering if I should delete it?

Well this Eloquence dilemma is getting worse because I tried to see if
it would load for another program, knowing it works well with NVDA and
not JAWS, it also is not working with Kurzweil 1000, because I tried to
switch engines and voices, and I think the same file or files required
by JAWS would also make it work with other TTS programs like K1000, but
strangely it works with NVDA but I just realize the reason why it works
with NVDA is because it is a plugin.
Is there an alternative way for me to get the necessary files for JAWS
Eloquence to work? I've tried all you guys said and still no go. Sadly.
I think it hates me for waiting for the DOR to upgrade JAWS. LOL! The

Re: [JAWS-Users] Editing Word DOC When Using JAWS

2013-10-13 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Annette,

Here are a few things you might be able to use. I had some notes that I
created some time ago that I am pasting below.

Take care.

TRACKING REVISIONS USING JAWS AND WORD 2010

Turn tracking on by using CTRL+shift+E. If using insert+v to bring up JAWS
verbosity, press the letter T until the track changes choice is found. Use
spacebar to cycle between the choices JAWS gives for what is spoken when
revisions are found and then press enter key to accept a choice. Choices
include type, type and author, type, author and date, as well as others.

You can use Windows key with semicolon in Word 2010 to bring up a virtual
window with options for viewing comments, footnotes, endnotes or revisions.
The virtual window will have links to the comments, revisions, etc. Use
enter key on any link to move to the targeted reference. If a change has
been made in a document and the document has been saved you can use the
Windows key with semicolon and press enter on the revision choice. If you
follow the link to a revision you can read the revision. You can then use
the application key and the accept and reject revision choices will be
present. Press enter key on the appropriate choice.

You can create a comment using the hotkey CTRL with Alt and M. If that
hotkey has been used by you for a different purpose then the New Comment
choice is under the review tab. You can list all comments in the document
by using CTRL with Shift and apostrophe. This will list all reviewer's
comments and you can arrow to the one you want to move to and press enter
key. Alt with Shift and apostrophe will read a comment at the cursor
position. You can list the comments and move to one and then delete either
that one or all in the document by choosing the review tab and tabbing to
the delete menu, which contains those choices.

You can also use Windows key with semicolon and use the Footnote choice to
move to a footnote. Focus will go into the footnote pane but you can use
shift with function key 5 to move to your previous position in the document.

If you do any coauthoring you can set the status bar to show such things as
number of authors editing, track changes, and document updates
available.

When you move to a revision the contextual menu accessed by using the
application key gives choices for accepting or rejecting the revision. If
you use the Accept and Reject options frequently for revisions, you might
want to consider setting those options to hotkeys. The following steps can
be followed to set a hotkey for the accept and move to next action found
on the lower part of the ribbon under the review tab.

1. Press Alt followed by R followed by A to move focus to the Accept and
Move to Next option.
2. Press the Application key or Shift+f10. (Right click with the mouse).
3. Use up arrow key a couple times and press enter key on the Customize
the Ribbon menu item.
4. Use tab key a couple of times to a list of commands and make sure that
the selected command is Accept and Move to Next.
5. Use tab key one more time to move to the Customize button and use the
spacebar.
6. In the category list make sure you select the Review option. Press R in
the list of categories until that option is selected.
7. Use tab key to the Commands list box.
8. The first three options in the list have to do with accepting changes.
Use up or down arrow key to select the one you want to use with a hotkey.
9. Use tab key one time to find out if there is a current key combination
applied to the command. If not, use tab key again to the edit box for the
new hotkey.
10. Type in the hotkey combination. You might consider using
Alt+CTRL+Shift+A. Be sure to actually use the hotkey when entering what you
want to use in the edit box. In other words, hold down all three modifier
keys, press A and then release all keys.
11. Use tab key one more time and choose if you want to use this key
combination in the normal template so it will be available in all new
documents based on the normal template. Arrow down one time in the Save In
combo box if you want your changes to only be for the current document.
12. Use tab key and find the Assign button. Use spacebar on that button.
The new hotkey combination should appear in the list of currently assigned
keys. I have found that it sometimes takes a few seconds before showing in
the list.
13. Use tab key to the Close button and use spacebar.
14. Use tab key to the OK button and use spacebar.

I admire your dilligence. When I get stuck on a computer problem, I try and
try and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, so I totally get your
statement.

Thanks I'm going to keep trying until I'm blue in the face.

 Hi,
Yes I understand I'm sorry I hadn't read every message in the thread

Good luck in your quest for a resolution.

The problem is that they won't be able to do a JAWS Tandem because JAWS
closes once it displays the error.
BTW is my Signature short enough for you all now?

Hi,
It would seem reasonable to me that perhaps if a call to FS tech
support is placed they could initiate a tandem session with your
machine in an effort to help resolve this problem. Whether you or an
agency meeting your needs purchased jfw for you someone is paying for
the opportunity to access technical support so it seems reasonable to
avail one's self of it in the interim instead of having to settle or
work around that which is broken.
Just my two cents no one asked for.

LOL! The
only other option other than talking to Tech Support, is to wait until I
get my upgrade from Rehab then, and then of course try it out on the
computer they will be giving me and then I'll know that it is the HP
machine and not me, since they'll be getting me a Dell Laptop with this
 same OS.

The version of Eloquence with JAWS is locked into JAWS, and it as such
has NO EFFECT on any other program. . Can you uninstall your Eloquence
(for NVDA) and then try the JAWS install? Then afterwards, if you like,
once JAWS has been successfully ins talled, try reinstalling the
Eloquence you use with NVDA. I have the K1000 Eloquence and it doesn't
affect JAWS use with Eloquence.
