[JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader Program. So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we all know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently. Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It creates a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than first. So try it yourself first whatever it is. If you get stuck then let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma. Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with JAWS is perfectly fine. The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of Freedom Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then I suggest you take it up with Freedom Scientific directly. Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Also any newsletters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval. Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done for your protection. The message list might state that there is an attachment but in fact Mailman does remove them. When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply delete messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are over 650 subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here. Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines, then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not receive an answer for a number of reasons. Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list. Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you may receive an email from the Mailman program asking you to reactivate your account. Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and follow the directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after receiving a number of such messages then the Mailman program will remove your email address automatically. The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with flirting or other such inappropriate activities. This is not a high tech swap shop or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is off topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and members should only post in the following manner: Using the TO: field with only one list address. The SUBJECT: field should be short and to the point without including any member names. The reason for this is that in cases where people setup their message rules to go by the to: field often times such rules get fouled up and in effect do not work properly. Also cross posting might allow you to reach many lists at the same time but the fact is such a post might not be on topic for each and every list. This practice does nothing but clutter up such lists with unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators. Lastly please no jokes, virus warnings, recipes, safety tips, or pleas to help dying kids, should ever be forwarded to the list. Forwarded messages and attachments are not permitted. If you have an article or message of interest which relates to the Nature of this list send it to the list owner and if it is appropriate, it will be posted to the list. Additionally if you want to make an announcement about another list send it to the list owner for consideration. Do not post it to the list before obtaining approval. No auto responders are to be
Re: [JAWS-Users] possible disappearing folders in outlook 2010
Hello Jamie, The following information shows steps according to Outlook 2013. I think that Outlook 2010 steps will be very similar if not the same. If you cannot find the folders in the folder list or in the subfolders after expanding a folder, it is possible they were archived. Check to find out if you have an Archive folder and if so expand it to see if the folders are there. If the Archive folder isn't in the folder list you can add it into the folder list and see if the folders are in its subfolders and then close the archive folder so it no longer shows in the folder list. When in the list of messages in the inbox or other folder use Alt key and then use down arrow key to the Open and Export tab. Tab to the Open Outlook Data file button and use spacebar. Do a couple shift+tab keystrokes until you find the list of PST files. Use up or down arrow key and if you find an Archive.PST file then press enter key. You can then go into your folder list and expand this folder by using right arrow key if it is closed and check the subfolder list. You can move the folders or messages in the folders back to the regular list of folders you use. When done just move to the archive.PST file, use application key and choose close to remove it from the folder list. You can adjust settings for archiving frequency by going into advanced settings by using Alt+F followed by Alt+T followed by A until you find the advanced category. Tab to the Auto Archive Settings button and press spacebar. In the window that appears there is a checkbox to run auto archive ever so often. You check this box if you want to use auto archiving. Tab through the rest of the options for how often to run archiving, whether or not to delete items, whether or not to include the Archive folder in the folder list, etc. If you want to do the archiving manually instead of automatically then you uncheck the checkbox in the automatic archive settings as mentioned above. To apply archiving to any folder use the application key when focus is on the folder name in the folder list. Choose properties. Use CTRL+Tab until in the archiving page. There is a group of three radio buttons that determine if you want to use the automatic settings (default) for this folder, no archiving or using settings you set. If you choose the latter then keep tabbing to the various options and make appropriate choices. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Font will not permanently change in Word 2010
Hello Liuda, After you either type in the font size or arrow to the size you want to use and you use the Set as Default button, in the resulting dialog you need to tab to a group of radio buttons and choose for it to apply to the normal template and not just the current document. . You use the OK button after choosing the appropriate radio button. I use Word 2013 but I think that is the same in Word 2010. You might have already done that but I thought I would point it out in case you were missing that step. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Font will not permanently change in Word 2010
Another alternative might be for you to contact a Microsoft Word forum, which some Microsoft MVP's routinely monitor for user problems, which they often may address or fix. Likewise, you could do a google search for something like, unable get desired font point size Microsoft Word . Look in the results you get, and refine the search phrase (if required). - Original Message - From: "Flor Lynch" To: Sent: Friday, February 28, 2014 8:30 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Font will not permanently change in Word 2010 Then back up that template file, by copying/pasting it to soemwhere else: After that, as a first step, do as instructed before. the template file may in anmy case be corrupted. - Original Message - From: "Liuda" To: Sent: Friday, February 28, 2014 6:08 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Font will not permanently change in Word 2010 This is not so easy. [JAWS-Users] how to sort outlook message so current messages will be at bottom and old messages at top
Hi, I want to sort my messages in outlook where the oldest ones will be at the top and newest will be at the end of the list where I'll press home to find oldest messages and end to find newest messages. I had it like that until I experimented with sorting by subject and individual recipient. When I put the arrangement back on date, it reversed the order of my messages where the newest ones are at the top and oldest at the bottom and I want it fixed back. Any help would be appreciated as this outlook uses different words than outlook express did. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Hi Jamie, I also made some folders and they were not showing up in my folder list in Outlook. I had someone come over and he went to the bottom of Outlook and click on something that made the folder show up in the list. You can try a ctrl+6 to see if that works. If that does not work I would call the Microsoft Disability line and they can help you resolve the problem. The number is 1-800-936-5900. Re: [JAWS-Users] Font will not permanently change in Word 2010
This is not so easy. I have specific margins which are not easy for me to set, since I don't know their exact settings and everything else in the template. I would hate to mess that all up. There must be some other alternative because you said that I should be able to adjust the font size, after this is done. It is not a given, however. I will continue to hold out and hopefully find some other solution so as not to totally disassemble all settings on the word 2010 template. If you're using JAWS virtual menus, arrow down to the arrangement submenu. Press right arrow to get to arrange by and then press enter to open. Arrow up or down to the choice you want and press enter. If you're not using JAWS virtual menus, tab from the view tab until you hear something like arrangement arrange by and press enter. Then arrow up or down to find the item you want and press enter. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Jamie Prater Sent: Thursday, February 27, 2014 08:33 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] jaws and outlook 2010 Hi, I'm using jaws 15, with the latest updated patch and outlook 2010. I have figured out how to most things I want to, but how do you sort messages by subject, sender, and other things. I can't seem to find this in the ribbons. It may be called by another name, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I take it that when you reply to someone, they aren't automatically entered into your address book anymore as they were in outlook express with xp. If this is indeed the case, how do you enter addresses and names and make sure they're right in your address book. It seems to have many of them in my suggested contacts but not in address book where email contacts should go, and I don't know how to put them there. Also, how would this work when copying addresses in by hand without replying to them such as getting them off my old xp computer? Thanks a bunch for this help with outlook and jaws and have a blessed day.
