Dooi, I don't know about your HD. I have a 1.5 tarabit Seagate, which will last a life time and still be empty. Are you having a hard time trying to get to open it or operate it? Just plug in the USB, turn on the external. Go to my computer and arrow down and see, if the external HD is highlighted . Press enter to open it. Wait, and see, if it's trying to download files to your PC, if not move on. Now Copy paste a useless file and see, if it pasted. Re: [JAWS-Users] Ribbons Navigation
Mike, I'll try this in general brief but rough summary, dealing with the idea of it. You're familiar with tab controls? The different pages (ctrl+tab) you get in multi-page dialog boxes? Well, ribbons are much the same as them. You can also right- or left-arrow between each of them. Now you have lower ribbons, or sub-ribbons, which will be accessed through their parent ribbons - often down-arrow from such if there's a sub-or lower-ribbon present on an option. The JAWS Virtual Ribbons are not the real Ribbons, and indeed, in some cases they rearrange many things in the structure and leave other things out. Another way to regard them is as if they were toobars activated with buttons. (You may recall Excel had plenty of those.) Now the good news is that there are many, many hot keys associated with the items in the Ribbons, that can be activated. However, it does take longer to accomplish a task i.e., more keystrokes, that formerly used to be a quite simple structural through the menu approach. Things are now more layered than they were, i.e. more vertical rather than linear. - Original Message - From: Mike B. mb69ma...@charter.net To: Jaws-Users List jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Saturday, March 15, 2014 9:09 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Ribbons Navigation Hi All, I'll get right to the point. Re: [JAWS-Users] start screen
Hi all I hope it is OK to ask this here. I am using Jaws and recently bought my Windows 8.1 machine. I had my local tech guy help set things up. He put all the things I normally use like Word, Outlook, Internet etc. on the desktop and told me not to go near the start screen as it is not accessible. He knows a little about Jaws but not a lot. Seeing mention of the weather app caused me to have a bit of a look around on the start screen and I wonder how accessible it is with Jaws as I'd like to be making use of it if some things are accessible. I'm not sure where to start though. I found weather bug as the weather had been mentioned here and got through an agreement for its use but it lands on Auckland our main city and I can't tell if you can change where it looks. I'm sure you can so wondered if anyone has any tips about using things on the start screen if it is in fact usable. Can we also use the touch feature on the screen itself? If this is too broad to be asking on this list just tell me and I'll ask elsewhere. As I am using Jaws 15 though I thought it should be OK to ask at least whether the start screen is accessible even if that's all I can find out. I shall continue to play with tabbing and arrowing around but am wondering if there are shortcuts. Cheers Paula.
